T430s Wifi issue after reinstalling Windows

Q: T430s Wifi issue after reinstalling Windows

Hi everyone,I've a T430s for more than a year now (second hand). Everything was fine until my suddently HDD died last week because of bad sector, after putting the laptop on hibernation for the night.I've bought a SSHD to replace my HDD and asked a friend who is quite good at computing to reinstall windows 7 on it. Everything works exept the wifi, the laptop is not able to catch wifi signal ... (but internet works with an ethernet cable).Installing Lenovo drivers from the support website did not fixed the issue.Any idea about how to fix it or about the source of the problem? Thanks !!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: T430s Wifi issue after reinstalling Windows

Welcome to the forum!

The site has three different drivers, is your friend sure she/he installed the correct one? I guess you're using a 64bits Win7, right?

Eventually ask her/him to check the device-id of the wifi card from the Device Manager.

Kind Regards

I'm running a Thinkpad T430s with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. After a few days, the wifi disconnected and won't reconnect. Wireless card is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.  Network Settings has the wifi switched to off. Clicking it to switch to on changes nothing - it shows as on, but connections don't work, and if I close the Network Settings window and re-open, the switch is back to off. Windows 10 will not switch off of airplane mode. Clicking the mode button does nothing - the icon stays blue. Ethernet works fine. An external USB wifi dongle works fine, but I'd like to use the built-in wifi. Things I have tried:Run all updates through Windows Update.Clean reinstall Windows 10 using an install disk created from Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Reformatted the main partition for this reinstall.Run all updates through Lenovo Companion, including a BIOS update.Reset the BIOS to factory settings.Made sure WLAN is enabled in the BIOS.Made sure that the hardware wifi switch is set to on. Switched it back and forth between on and off, to make sure what I thought was on was actually on.Replaced the wifi card with another card. Made sure that the cables are connected firmly, the card is seated and the screw replaced. Both the original and replacement cards are Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.Rescanned for hardware changes in Device Manager. Uninstalled the wireless card. Disabled it. Enabled it. I have  bought Lenovo T430s laptop recently. The main problem is that it came win Ubuntu OS. I formated all the partition data and tried to install Windows 7. There was a "A required CD/DVD drive driver is missing" issue, where a windows prompts asking me to point the directory where to load that driver. It's on that step, where I should select where to install the drive, so I tought it was the HDD drivers. I tried with UEFI/Legacy tricks such as forcing my BIOS to use UEFI only or LEGACY only. I also tried to change the HDD options from AHCI to Compatability and many variations. Well at first time, i tried with putting the chipset drivers to usb disk and point the driver then uncheck the "Hide drivers that are not compatible with my computer" and tried to force it use my drivers. Tried with different drivers and every time I got stuck to the same problem. Then I tried with Windows 8 and Windows 10, It just installed without problem. Later I had issue with my Cooling Fan. It stoped working, So i returned my laptop to the shop, where I bought the laptop. They said that they sent it to a service and the service changed the HDD and the motherboard. The HDD was Seagate 320GB, now it is HITACHI 320GB. The motherboard is changed, because previous motherboard had Compatibility options, that was suited for windows 8, now it's gone (may be old BIOS chip/software or newer, I dont' know, my BIOS version is 2.7). So after I got my laptop back (repaired) I got it with new H... A:T430s Windows 7 Installation Issue

You need to add the USB 3.0 drivers to the WIndows 7 installation media.  There are several threads on this topic here on the forums.  It can be done manually (a real pain...) or with one of several OEM tools.
Here's the Intel one:  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility
You may also need to make the flash drive UEFI-bootable if that's you preferred installation mode.  That involves some file manipulation, but not a complete rebuild of the media.

Hello! I bought a second hand Lenovo T430s, and I have a problem with it. The wifi switch seem to have some problem, even if i switch it on, the laptop says it's turned off. My question is, is there a way to "bypass" the physical switch, or can i get a replacement somewhere?

I reinstalled Windows 7 on a Samsung Series 5 (5 months old) and now I cannot connect to (or even detect) any WiFi networks.

I am currently in an active WiFi environment (confirmed) that I used many times in the past, but when I click "Connect to a network" I get:

"No connections are available."

If I select the "Troubleshoot" option, I get: "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

Prior to the reinstallation, a list of nearby WiFi options would appear and I would access the public option.

Basically, the computer is no longer detecting local WiFi networks.

I won't be surprised if this is something rather basic...

Hello and welcome samesame9 mate when you clean installed how did you set the dive up did you just format it or wipe it as I always clean or clean all in DISKPART so that I am sure that there are no remnants of the old install left behind . Clean takes less time to do than clean all but in any case do this first up to check for any file corruption and by the way how did you do the re install ie what form of media did you use??
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs

Hi, I encounter the following issues with my Thinkpad T430s:- sometimes the mouse pointer starts moving on its on, always towards the same direction and always at the same speed. Rebooting temporarily resolves the issue until it occurs again. Reducing the sensitivity in the driver software does not have any impact. Pressing the trackpoint and letting go does nothing to stop it. - the left mouse button acts like a weird combination of a left click + some function that brings up context menus, if available (e.g. on desktop). This happens using the trackpoint, touchpad and sometimes even when using an external mouse. - Right mouse button does not function at all. No matter what function is assigned to it in the driver software, it does not work. External mouse works. All this ONLY happens if the trackpoint is ENABLED in BIOS. If I disabled the trackpoint in the BIOS, touchpad and all mouse buttons work fine. I tried Windows 10 and Windows 7. The problems occur under both operating systems using different driver software. Therefore, I do believe this to be a hardware issue. Anyone has experienced this issues and knows a good way to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I cannot be sure without seeing it, but my guess is that you need a keyboard

Ok, How do I get this T430s to recognise ONLY the nVidia graphics? I have it set to nVidia only in the BIOS, However, this thing INSISTS on using the pathetic HD4000 graphics when trying to play a game. This was easy to do for the T420. Why wont this work for the T430s? What I've done:Install ONLY the nVidia graphics drivers.... I still wants to use the "generic" VGA driver for everything. It forces me to use the nVidia panel to list games for use with the nVidia graphics. This doesn't always work. Is there a fix for this nightmare?

My workhorse T430S has never had wifi trouble.I installed a new TalkTalk supplied Sagemcom Fast 5463 router which my laptop connects to no problem. But then the pc freezes. Often. For 40+ seconds at a time. I've tried checking all drivers from Lenovo and Micorosft and I have the latest. I tried two of these modems and both absolutely murder my laptop and make it unusable. I switch the router back to my previous router and the world spins again. Driving me beyond nuts. Why? Any ideas? Does the T430s network wifi card only deal with older routers?Do I need to update my pc wifi card?Is there a magic new driver available?Yep, sounds like a job for Hong Kong Fuey (readers of a certain age only...) Thanks for sharing any wisdom.

So the Internet on my T430s recently stopped working, and every time I try to troubleshoot I'm told to turn on wireless capability using my wireless switch, which is definitely in the on position. (I've even tried turning it to the off position just in case I'm really stupid and have them mixed up, but no Internet there either.) What I've done so far: 1) Fn+F5 gives me the message "The hardware wireless radio switch must be in the on position to use the wireless radios," which is unhelpful since it's in the on position. 2) Going into Device Manager and checking Network Adapters tells me that I have 4 adapters, and the Properties menu for all 4 says that "This device is working properly." I'm not sure which one is being used for my main connection, but all the ones listed say they're working. 3) I did some Googling and found some random sources that said you could use BIOS to override the hardware switch and turn wireless on. Wasn't able to find anything, so I'm wondering whether that doesn't apply for the T430s. Not super familiar with BIOS so I might be using it totally wrong. 4) I opened the computer up to take a look at the wireless radio switch. Didn't see anything clearly wrong with it, but I doubt I'd be able to detect a visible problem even if one were present.  So yeah, I'd appreciate if someone could help me with the issue. I'd prefer to solve it on the software side of things, so if someone could tell me a way to override the hardw... Read more

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

A:t430s battery charge issue

Hi and welcome, moreryanIs the battery Lenovo genuine, has Lenovo FRU p/n?Have you get it from the Lenovo related store?Could you make a snapshot of the battery surface labels with quality enough to recognize labels, symbols? As you can't publish images here, in the post yet, provide an external link. Also, as your OS is win7 and I hope Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, what are the values of the second half of the battery parameters (manufacturer name and followed) PM shows in the Battery tab? Make a snapshot as well.Answers and images are needed to understand whether the battery is faked since the battery for T430 should have HW authentication.

I've had my t430s for almost a year now and have been basically happy with it/no issues thus far. However, this morning I went to boot it up and it's completely unresponsive - no lights when plugged into A/C, no fan whir, nothing.  I've already tried the 30 sec power drain trick, verified the charger works, used an alternate lenovo charger(from a t430),removed the battery, both RAM cards, SSD, CMOS and attempted to identify the issue using the various steps recommended in the user guide, but to no avail.I suspect this to be a MB issue or possibly power socket related.  Alas the laptops factory warranty expired in June as it was purchased secondhand(and registered by me after purchase).  Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

A:T430s won't power on - possible motherboard issue?

Well, I have replaced quite a few power jacks on T420s/T430s machines, but if that were the problem, you would have gotten low-battery warnings ahead of time.  When you disconnected the CMOS battery, did you let it sit a few seconds before plugging it back in?  I always let it sit for 5 seconds and then I press the power button 2 or 3 times before putting it back.  This drains all the capacitors.  (I assume you know that the main battery also needs to be out and the machine unplugged.)

Recently I have been gifted with a T430S Thinkpad on which I made a fresh installation of Windows 7 Home. From time to time the mouse has a strange behavior : it operates fine except to scroll in dropdown lists. I have to use the keybord to do that an select an item. When it happens the touch pad doesn't work anymore. Switching  with an other mouse doesn't solve the problem. I have to stop and restart the laptop to recover the normal behavior of the mouse. Installing last drivers from Lenovo download center had no effect. It seems other users encountered a similar issue. Some of them got rid of it after a BIOS upgrade. Infortunately  I didn't find any BIOS to download. The only files avalaibable are just utilities to install a new BIOS. Mine is 2.05 dated 12/11/2012. So my question is where to get a more recent BIOS and do you think an update will fix the issue. Thanking you in advance

Ok i have had this computer for 2,5 years. Now its pretty laggy and crashes sometimes, so i desided to reinstall windows. (I have XP home edition).
I did everything with instructions and got pretty far.

I just found this when i searched answer to my problem. And my problem is that in last (3rd) picture of that web instruction, when you must choose the drive where you want to install new windows, it doesnt say C/Windows. It says two times "unknown disk". Then when i try to choose it, bluescreen bumbs out with explanation that windows was closed for some reason. So now i cant reinstall it..
Whats going on and what could i do ??

A:Windows XP reinstalling issue!!

Are you REINSTALLING or REPAIRING? Those are two different things. The instructions you're following are for a repair.

A repair will fix defects in the operating system, but everything essentially stays the same as before.

Decide which operation you are performing before you go any further.

Okay, yeah so I feel like an idiot posting b/c I've done this kinda thing so many times before.

It's been two years since I've reformatted and started from scratch and i've decided it needs to get done. I am running Windows XP Professional.

I'm having issues getting the cd to run tho from the boot floppy. It just doesn't want to find the cd rom drive at all when it tells me right above the prompt that it's in drive d.

Any thoughts?

oh, and it will run from windows and let me reinstall from there.. but I don't wanna do that.

A:Windows XP CD issue when reinstalling?

Just go into the BIOS and make sure it is set to boot from the cd first, exit BIOS and put the xp cd into the cd rom and restart. The computer should come up with a black screen saying "Press any key to boot from the cd...",but you have to be quick as you only have about 5 seconds to press a key. That should get you started.

So I have just reformatted and reloaded Windows XP on my old Dell machine. I thought I had gotten lucky because I believe all the drivers were installed after reloading the OS. I had started the process of updating everything via Windows Update. After the third or fourth restart, the machine will not completely load up... you can see the boot up process up to the point of the Windows XP screen and then it will go black. Its as if goes in to Hibernate mode. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Hi. A friend of mine purchased a used HP Omni 120 desktop all in one computer that came with Windows 8. There are some problems...1. It's polluted with malware. 2. Even worse... The previous owners girlfriend messed with it and I see that while the recovery partition is there it is empty so I can't use that to restore it to factory. The computer didn't come with any recovery media either. I have an official MS Windows 8.1 iso I made and I have used that in the past a few times to restore some computers. I put that disk in this computer and thought I'd get it to reinstall Win8 easily, but that's not the case. I get stuck with a driver issue. I have a screen shot below of what happens. Any ideas of what I need to do to get past this and get Windows back on here? Thanks!

The MS tool creates Retail installation media; the version preinstalled on your PC was HP OEM -- they are not the same. You said you had an ISO; nowhere did I see in your post that you used the MS tool that also allows you to create install media using a USB stick. So, I told you how you can do that using RUFUS. Some folks have also claimed that the Win8.1 media made from the MS tool will accept Win8 product keys for activation, not just Win8.1 keys.  I have found this to be true because I did a clean-install using media made from that tool and used my existing Win8 product key to activate it. There have been claims that the version made from the MS Win8.1 tool CAN accept OEM product keys, but those claims have also been disputed. Don't know of anywhere that you can download a Win8 ISO -- and even then, that would be subject to the same limitations as the Win8.1 ISO -- it might not accept an HP OEM product key for activation. Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

Depending on the BIOS version that is installed, it could be that you need to switch out of the  UEFI  mode and into legacy.  Windows 7 does not know how to get into the UEFI  settings, as it came out before.

Give Microsoft a call and explain the situation, that would be the best course of action at this point.

I have an Asus Q301L Notebook (Win 8.1 64-bit) and I have been having a strange issue with it and my router, a Linksys E1200 (Firmware 2.0.04). When I close the lid of the laptop it goes to sleep, when I open it it wakes up, except that when it tries to connect to my wireless router after waking up, it connects very briefly and then disconnects. From this point forward it cannot connect to the wireless network nor can any other device (though currently connected devices do not lose their connections). The only solution is to power-cycle the router which restores everything back to normal.

I tried using a wired connection but that doesn't work either, when I ran Windows Network Diagnostics it could not fix the problem, which it identified as the Ethernet connection not having a valid IP configuration. When I ran ipconfig with the Ethernet port plugged in (but not working), I got the following information...

Ethernet adapter Ethernet:
Connection-specific DNS suffix:
IPv4 Address: 168.174.xx.xx [can't remember the last four but it wasn't a valid IP]
Subnet Mask:
Default Gateway:

I really don't know what to do here, and the bizarre thing is that it prevents any other devices from connecting to the network either, almost like DHCP gets broken somehow...?

I've been using Windows 7 x64 RTM for about a week now, and all I can say is: ARGHHHH!!!

Sleep/Hybrid/Hibernation always screws up my WiFi connections, when I wake it from Sleep, my connection ALWAYS drops and attempts to reconnect, then I force it to connect and it either doesn't or connects then drops and reconnects over and over and over again, then I have to manually disable the adapter and renable it to connect 100% and STAY connected until it goes to Sleep.

I start the computer FRESH from power button and my connection is either, remembered, or the Configure settings forgets that I checked the "Connect automatically when this network is in range". So I'm forced to manually connect upon startup.

I've tried both official Atheros driver for Vista x64 and the Windows provided Atheros driver from June 2009 for 7. They both do the same crap.

I really hope Microsoft gets something out to fix this...

Do you have more than one computer on your network?
If so, it could be that they are competing for the same IP address.
Set the IP to a fixed address you're sure is free.

Also, check if it isn't trying to connect to your neighbor's network.
Happens sometimes if your neighbor's output is higher than your own.
You can solve this by making your own network the preferred or only one it can connect to.

In the powercfg, disable the hybrid.

Make sure in the Bios only S3 standby is enabl... Read more

You need to get the laptop drivers for LAN adapter first. They'll be downloadable from the net.

I upgraded my HP Dv6t pavilion laptop (bought in 2012-13) to windows 10. After upgrading everything seems to work fine except my Wifi (F12) is orange instead of white. In other words, I cannot connect to the wifi and the wifi switch is greyed out and slide back to "off position" when I go in wifi setting.I have tried all the options below (nothing worked). I know the problem is, I don't have the updated wifi driver for my HP machine for windows 10 OS.- I already upgraded my wifi adapter in PC setting.- I called the manufacturer "HP" tech support they asked me to contact the wifi adapter manufacturer Intel; raytheon as  an example. I contacted them they don't have one.- HP tech. support is asking $60 to fix the problem and send me the right wifi driver. Looks like a scam to me to extract money since I am out of warranty/tech support.( Just on a side note my son has a newer laptop, Asus he did not have this problem while upgrading to windows 10, I know this is most common on older laptops. )It's so upsetting that big organization like "Microsoft" and "HP" don't want to take care of the customer's and pointing customer's like me to get help from the other organization. "HP" saying go to "Microsoft" to get help and "Microsoft" saying go to "HP" for help.(Based on all the blogs online.)I wish I would have not upgraded to windows... Read more

After inserting the wireless adapter into either PC, I installed the necessary drivers for the devices. After the driver installation was successful, I click on the icon in the taskbar for the internet connections and see if there is a wireless network nearby - but the window says no connections are available. I opened the Network and Sharing Center and clicked on the Manage Wireless Networks link on the left - nothing is displayed. I clicked on the Change Adapter Settings link on the left as well and it displays my Wireless Network Connection as enabled. A:Wifi Issue on Windows 10 Professional

Hi,if the drivers are fully up to date and your still having the problem, its probably not the driver causing the issue. Could you check that all avaliable windows updates are installed along with check for updates for your web browsers and see if the problem still occurs. If all the updates are installed please answer the following questions 1.) Have you carried out a virus or malware scan if not please conduct one and let us know the result?2.) Does the issue occur just on the Wifi at home or everywhere?3.) Apart from migration to windows 10 have you installed and additional hardware components or software since. James

I bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro L850 with builtin Windows 8 64-bit, which I updated to Windows 8.1, It took me 3 days to install the 3.4gb update.
PROBLEM: I am getting the Wifi connectivity issue inform of very slow speed, frequent disconnection, limited connectivity.
Plz note: This issue was also happening when laptop was running on Windows 8.
The network adapter is Qualcomm Atheros AR946x
After reading some blogs/discussions I did some following changing to solve my wifi connectivity interruption.
1. I disabled Bluetooth Device from Device Manager under Network Adapters
2. Uninstall the Atheros adapter and re-installed the new software Dated: 02/04/2014 from atheros website.
1. My laptop internet connectivity doesn't seems to be smooth.
2. My laptop does not connect to wifi when I go to another room, infact my mobile phone connected to wifi where my laptop don't. I also have my old laptop (acer) with me that I bought 3 years back and it's wifi is working perfect even in far distance.
Plz note: This issue was also happening when laptop was running on Windows 8.
I am not too much in windows programming. I am so much confused what to do to solve this matter. Your valuable suggestions are the only hope for me now.
Thank you & looking forward

I hope this isn't a dupe thread.  I tried searching and couldn't find the info. I just purchased a used T430s that came with Windows 8, but at some point along the way someone installed Windows 10.  The first thing I want to do is make sure that this is a legit/verified Windows 10, and secondly how do I download drivers from Lenovo for Windows 10.   When I go to the product page, it doesn't give me the option for Windows 10.  It shows Vista through 8, but not 10. Any help is greatly appreciated. GBA

I am having an issue at my place of work with a laptop.
Background information:
We have an MPLS network between each office so we are on the same network. Each office has a Server 2003 Domain Controller that runs a DHCP server providing that office with IP addresses. So one office has a 10.10.10.x IP and another office may have a 10.10.20.x IP. We have static persistent routes setup on the domain controllers in each office to force anything going to the other 10.10.xx.xx office to go out the MPLS router address of 10.10.xx.1. Every office has a variety of Linksys WRT54G model routers all setup the same for SSID, wireless security and such and are just used as access points instead of routers.

My problem is that I sent a laptop from the 10.10.10.x network over to the 10.10.40.x network and am unable to ping said laptop. (Cannot ping from that offices Domain Controller or my machine) I cannot ping the netbios name or the IP address. I looked in the Windows DHCP server Address Leases and that laptop has a record and an IP. The logged in user is only a Domain User so they cannot run ipconfig /release or /renew or repair their wifi connection. The user is however able to connect to our terminal server in another office(the one I am trying to ping from) just fine.

I have done the following to try resolving this issue:
1. Reboot the machine
2. Disable/Re-Enable the wifi on this Dell laptop using FN+F2
3. Run ipconfig /flushdns then reboot

There is no firewall between the office... Read more

My wife's HP ENVY m6-1125dx PC using Windows 8 with Ralink RT5390R 802.11 bgn wifi adapter would lose wifi connection with the VERIZON FIOS Actiontec MI424WR router after 13-14 minutes; plugging the ethernet cable in would regain internet access, or restarting the PC but the issue would return in 13-14 minutes. My Toshiba laptop, using Windows 7, stayed connected when my wife's laptop lost its wifi connection. The other devices in our house (Wii, TIVO, printer, etc.) had no connection issues. Interestingly, my wife's laptop had no wifi connection losses with other hotspots (Best Buy aka Geek Squad, McDonalds, Starbucks, Panera, etc); so this issue was specifically between the Ralink wifi adapter and the Actiontec router wifi.

Just updating the laptop wifi adapter driver did not fix the issue. HOWEVER, uninstalling the driver then reinstalling the latest wifi adapter driver from the HP website seems to have fixed the issue. Also installed the Intel Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Window 8 from the HP website.

My acer Aspire V3-571 has been intermittently losing WiFi for past 2 days since Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium. The Aspire has:Atheros wireless network adapter AR5BWB222 Wed. 2/15/12 So far, I have:1. In the Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter Properties,I  unchecked the box in the Property Management tab which read Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. 1b. Made sure airplane mode was in off position.1c. Forget exactly where I did this, but made sure settings in another ? location were set at "Maximum Performance."2. Checked that firmware is up to date on my network router, with security set to WPA 2-PSK (AES).3. After I uninstalled Atheros driver, a right screen Windows 10 style panel immediately appeared--either on notifications panel or in WiFi settings page, was sleepy, don't remember which--containing a labeled entry box for my wifi password. I entered the password and boom, the wifi worked. It's been working since.Again thanks. Will mark solved.

Hi everybody,
I recently bought a second-handed Satellite Pro L850-1P7 in mint condition and upgraded it to windows 10.
Unfortunately there is a problem with the wifi (that I don't know if it appeared in the previous windows 8.1 installation).
When I press to connect to one of the available wifi networks, it fails every time and returns "can't connect to this network", regardless the signal shown (1/4 - 4/4) UNLESS I am really close to the wifi router.
The wifi module is a Qualcomm Atheros AR946x adapter (AR5B22), and I updated the driver to the latest one with no luck. I also tried some older driver versions. No luck either.
I chose "Maximum Performance" under "Wireless Adapter settings", and deselected the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" box under driver's Power Management tab.
Guess what? nothing happened. It still cannot connect to the wifi networks unless the laptop is close to the router.
My guess was that it is either a driver issue, or a malfunctioning wifi module, until I booted the laptop in Linux and everything worked absolutely fine. It connected to the wifi network in less than a second. So it must be a driver issue, or a "bad" setting.
Any idea would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Dear All,

After I updated Windows 10 x64 to version 1803(OS Build 17134.112) I'm unable to use any Wifi USB dongle as I used before updating? Also I'm trying to install drivers from CD but I'm getting this notification see pic:

Please if you could tell me any solution for this one! Also I would like to mention that I had also similar driver issues in other machines after I performed this version of Windows 10 on them, what could it be?

A:Windows 10 - Any Wifi dongle driver issue

Try rolling back the driver to the previous version and/ or look for an updated driver on the computer manufacturer website or Realtek website. Always make a restore point before changing drivers to be safe.

If you need more help then provide the following:

Show Driver Details
Go into Device Manager
Right click on your wifi adapter
Select Properties
Select the Drivers tab
and either provide a screenshot or provide the following information to your reply
Device Provider
Driver Date
Driver Version

Show Driver Hardware ID
Go into Device Manager
Right click on your sound card
Select the Details tab
Choose Hardware Id's under the property window
and either provide a screenshot or add the hardware id values to your reply
