Installing HDD in Ideapad 700

Q: Installing HDD in Ideapad 700

I purchased both the required cable(https://www.encompassparts.com/item/10652795/Lenovo/5C10K25544/Ct_cables_Internal), and the bracket(https://www.encompassparts.com/item/10653242/Lenovo/5B40K25518/Mn_misc_Internal), that I believe are required to install an hdd, in addition to the 256 gb ssd in the m.2 slot. Could someone give me step-by-step instructions to the installation of the hdd?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey Everyone. I have this model - IdeaPad 100 - 15IBD. ( I3 5th Gen, 4 GB, Dos) ...  I have installed Windows 6 - 64 Bit, i am not getting the performace i should get, so i am trying to install all the possible drivers. There is one thing showing as "Unknown Device" in my computer and when i open it's properties i see ACPI\MSFT0101 in Details Tab. Please help me with the appropriate driver for the same.   Also, please suggest how can i improve the performace of the system ? Is upgrading to 8 GB Ram would work ?    Thanks,Jyoti

A:Need help in installing drivers - Ideapad 100

Hi Jyothi,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

For the ACPI\MSFT0101 unknown device you can also simply disable Intel PTT (Platform Trust Technology). On Intel NUCs Visual BIOS: BIOS Setup <F2> Advanced - Security - Security Features pane - uncheck Intel Platform Trust Technology.

Secondly, Other than the specific applications that hog your RAM, if you think bumping your RAM from 4GB to 8GB is going to increase the speed of a regular application-like a video game?you should think again. The only thing that additional RAM does is allow your computer to do more things at once, not actually make it faster.

Please go through this link.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

Finally, I can make a thread, and now I have Lenovo ID, a Lenovo Community Forums Account, and a Lenovo Store account; none of which work together. I tried installing Windows 7 on the Ideapad 310, but I had to turn on legacy bios in order to boot off a flash drive, but the error given on the windows 7 installer says ?Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style?. I'd rather not wipe the disk and convert it to MBR if I don't have to. Is there a way to preserve the current partition setup and install windows 7 over the current windows 10 partition?

I just got my Lenovo Ideapad 700-15isk on the mail today, bought it with freedos (I already have a retail w10 license I want to transfer to it). Last night I prepared my bootable w10 usb and tested it on my old laptop to verify it works. No problem. I can't get it to work on the Lenovo, no matter what Bios settings I choose. I don't really mind if it's UEFI or Legacy at this point, I'm reinstalling next week when I get my new ssd disk, I just want to be able to get windows in for now. My usb stick is formatted as fat32, with windows 10 64-bit, I got the ISO using the media creation tool from Microsoft, and put it into the usb with rufus. At first, I was getting a winload.efi error (with either uefi, legacy, legacy first, uefi first and all variations you can think of). I redid the usb, this time just mounting the ISO file and copying the files manually. Now I'm getting winload.exe file might be damaged or missing. The mystifying thing is that the installer boots just fine on my old asus laptop. It's been years since the last time I did this, so I'm probably missing something obvious. Can anybody guide me on how to get the windows install screen to come up on this machine? Thank you in advance.

TL;DR: The Lenovo supplied driver refuses to install. Can anyone point out a place I can find older Lenovo NVidia drivers? ---------- My ideapad (Windows 10, 64 bit) came preinstalled with NVidia drivers version 359.37 for the GTX 950M in it. These worked fine. Then Windows 10 decided to overwrite those with a non-Lenovo NVidia driver through Windows Update. Those will not allow any OpenGL-using program to run at all, so I'm looking for a driver that actually works. I would think Lenovo driver downloads would be the best location for this, but the only one I can find there now is 376.67. That refuses to install, complaining that "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I have also tried all the drivers NVidia allows me to download, and those all have different critical faults, ranging from refusing to install, freezing on the Windows login screen, crashing any program by "denied access to graphics hardware", and causing bluescreens every 30 seconds or so. Ideally, I'd want the newest driver in a working form. Lacking that, I'd like to have the Lenovo 359.37 driver back.  But I can't find the installation files for that anywhere. The only way I've found to get it is by factory resetting my computer, but that only lasts me about an hour before Windows decides to automatically destroy my driver again - in spite of "blocking" the update with Microsoft's update hiding tool. Can anyone point out a place I can find older Lenovo NVi... Read more

Hello I thought id try my luck on here. I was given an Lenovo Ideapad 110S with an EMMC drive with the partitions deleted. Ive been trying to install Windows 7 and or 10 with no luck. I'm constantly getting hit with a "windows cannot be installed on this disk" error when I delete or create a new partition. the "next" button is highlighted but whenever I try to click it I get hit with the following message:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. this computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOS menu"

The BIOS that I have does not give me the option to change the disks controllers settings. the best I can do is change my UEFI/Legacy support settings and that doesnt seem to help with the situation. I tried looking for a recovery disk/files on the website but its still under maintainces and doesnt look like it'll be finished anytime soon since it was supposed to be live and ready from Noon today EST. Is there a fix for this? A way to updated my BIOS to get these features I need to change it? HELP> ME> PLZ>

Last week I swapped out the HDD with a new Kingston SSD in my Ideapad Z710 and I ordered a HDD caddy.Everything ran fine with the SSD but after installing the caddy I keep running into a bootloop (Lenovo startup screen keeps splashing). The HDD is formatted so there are no boot partitions left on it and I have the boot priority set to the SSD. All changes I've tried making in the BIOS did not help. The only way to boot the computer is clicking the Onekey recovery button and booting through the Boot menu, which strangely only shows the SSD. Has anyone else encountered this problem and would be able to help?

I've the same problem. I try reinstalling SO, resetting bios and switching the ssd as 1st drive (I moved the SSD on the hdd bay, and the old HDD on the dvd caddy.) I did a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD, keeping the old hdd only for data. (both the hdd have gpt partition, and I erase completely the old hdd). Nothing, the bootloop goes on as you describe. Anyone has the solution?

Yesterday my 100S-11IBY installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (aka Windows 10 Version 1607). It now has multiple problems and is unusable. 1. The keyboard (yes, the built in keyboard) does not work. None of the keys (letters, numbers, 'actions' like backspace) work at all. If I plug in a USB wireless keyboard, it works just fine. So maybe there is a problem with the device driver for the built in keyboard with the Anniversary Update. The keyboard worked just fine before Windows Update installed the Anniversary Update. 2. The trackpad does not work. If I plug in a USB wireless mouse, it works just fine. So maybe there is a problem with the device driver for the trackpad with the Anniversary Update. The trackpad worked just fine before Windows Update installed the Anniversary Update. 3. The 32GB Kingston microSD card plugged in to the microSD port is not recognised by File Explorer. If I plug the 32GB Kingston microSD card into a USB microSD card reader, and plug the card reader in to a USB port, the microSD storage is recognised in File Explorer, so the microSD card itself is fine. So maybe there is a problem with the device driver for the microSD port with the Anniversary Update. The microSD port worked just fine and the microSD card was recognised in File Explorer before Windows Update installed the Anniversary Update. 4. As far as I know both should use 2.5" SATA 3 which means I should have no problem right?Alternatively I've been thinking of buying a new hard drive, but I still have no idea what's compatible with what so would something like This be compatibe? Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

Hope this answered your query.

Ok I have the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard. I am trying to figure out how to put it in the case. I have the processor in and its ready to go in the case. I am just not sure how to put it in. In the directions it says “Remove the I/O plate from the back of the case and replace it with provided motherboard I/O plate.”. What does that mean? What’s an I/O plate? The problem I am running into is the case has like 50 holes in it to put those gold screw things that space the motherboard off the case. Well I am not sure what holes to use. There are like 10 different holes on the motherboard. Are they all for screws? I noticed there are two type of holes. Just normal holes then there are holes with 8 golden metal circles around them. I was not sure if they were for screws. Here is what I am talking about:

Also the manual for my motherboard said it has the ability to support dual channel technology. What is dual channel technology? It said it doubles the bandwidth of the memory speed or something like that. Anyway I have two gigs of Corsair XMX2 memory. The manual said I need to put the memory in the same color channels for the dual channel to work. So I put the two sticks of memory in the same colored slots not the slots grouped together right? Does it mater if I choose the red or yellow ones?

A:Need help installing mobo into case and installing RAM for dual channel config.

Attached is a picture and description of how to remove and install the I/O shield.

The screws that secure the motherboard to the chassis go through the holes with the metal circles around them.

The "gold screw things" you are speaking of are the motherboard standoffs. You install the standoffs in the case to align with the holes with the metal circles around them. MAKE SURE that you only have installed the number of standoffs for the holes on the motherboard. If you leave an extra standoff installed it can cause a short circuit in the motherboard.

For dual channel memory install one stick of memory in each of the YELLOW DIMMs.
Push the white clips on the DIMMs into the open position (in the photograph you attached they are in the closed position). Insert a stick of memory in the DIMM slot making sure it is aligned. Then with your thumbs push down firmly on each end of the memory stick until it is firmly seated and the white clips close by themselves to lock the memory in place. If the memory is installed correctly, you should not have to move the white locking clips manually. Again, they should "pop in" and lock themselves.

Hi,

To give you some back story, I built my computer the end of August 2012. Ran Smoothly. I decided to get a 60 gig SSD to be the partition that stored Windows. I didnt have much stored on the Main HD so I deleted my original 2TB HD and tried installing on the SSD... found that the SSD was bad and sent it back. Decided just to stick with the 2TB HD. Had some issues installing windows back onto the HD as it would just hang up. Finally managed to get windows installed, had some "Not genuine" issues but that resolved after multiple restarts. That brings me to where I am at today and I feel as though the system has been getting worse. I would normally be fine with just a clean install but with all the issues I had with that initially I am very skeptical of trying it again. I have 5 important updates and 7 optional updates all of which do not install. The Installer just sits on Downloading updates and I have left it overnight with still no result. I am not sure if this is even my main issue but I am beyond the point of figuring it out myself so any help would be appreciated

I downloaded the System Readiness Tool and it Ran. I tried running the sfc /scannow in Admin cmd prompt mode and get a "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" I attached my CBS file. Any help you could give or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome Faticus just as matter of interest why did you give up on the SSD? was not it under warranty?

That is heck of a drive to be installing on mate just how did you prepare it for the install?

You can run a chkdsk in Windows too > My Computer > right click on the drive > Properties > Tools > Check now - then follow the points in my pic.
You then reboot and it will start a chkdsk (in DOS).

Hello there,
I recently swapped out my HD 6450 for a GTX 460 and after about two days I noticed my windows had done a auto-update and rebooting itself and was at my login prompt and my USB keyboard and mouse suddenly were not working at all the keyboard had no lights on either. I then proceeded to reboot the computer when I did this I suddenly had no signal coming from my video card. The card was still running its fan and everything else on the motherboard was running as well but no video.

I then thought it might be a video card problem so I re-installed the HD 6450 and it seems to be doing the same thing.... I have been researching every thing I can possibly find on how to fix this issue however nothing seems to work and im almost thinking the PCI-E slot may be dead however the HD6450 runs its fan directly from the mobo through the slot and when I power the computer up with that card in it the fan spins like normal.

Things I have tried so far...

1. Ensured everything was seated properly and all cords were in the proper places.

2. Reseated / Cleaned any dust off my RAM , HDD , Proccessor , all PSU cords going to mobo as well as USB cords. As well as did a mobo test by removing the RAM and booting to see if it beeped and it did ( with the RAM in place its giving me 1 short beep but thats been like that for a long time ).

3. Reset my BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for abit as well as doing the jumper reset on my mobo.

4. Ensured the BIOS had not switched to onboard som... Read more

Yeah, I have a friend who just replaced her hard drive. She had a friend come over and he installed an XP cd he got from the university he works at. Anyway I guess he installed all the drivers and updates onto the computer. However when she tried to install her webcam driver it comes up with an error message saying error installing IKernel.exe. She can't get it past that error to install the driver. So I did some research on the net. Came across a page that said to delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine. However when I showed her how to get to that InstallShield folder there wasn't one to be found. I found that very interesting. Why would XP have installed that with the cd the dude used? Weird. Anyway I heard her download and install an InstallShield version that I am not sure if it is the right version. Anyway it is on there. I had her try the webcam driver again. Still same error. I am guessing there is no IKernel.exe on her computer. Should I have her download the IkernelUpdate.exe that is also on that page? If not what else can I have her try? She doesn't have a Windows XP to extract files from. Thanks.

Windows updates keeps installing/reinstalling the same update over and over again. I looked in my update history and it shows that they are installed successfully every time. What should I do and is this using space on my laptop by re-installing over and over again?

A:Solved: Windows updates keeps installing/re-installing the same update over and over

It is not using any space. Right-click the ones you already have and hide them so they don't come back.

I have an HP 5500 series printer and ever since I installed Adobe Professional 7.0 the software keeps installing itself over and over and I can't get it to stop. I have tried uninstalling Adobe and reinstalling and it does the same thing. Anyone ever heard of this? Any advice is greatly appreciated, and I'm a newbie here so I hope I have posted correctly. Thanks!!!

A:HP Printer software keeps re-installing by itself after installing Adobe Prof. 7.0

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab).

Look for entries that start with hpz, similar to what you see here.

Uncheck those entries, click Apply - OK, then reboot.

See if that helps.

I have 7 Ultimate right now, I want to install XP through VirtualBox, which is all well and fine, I know how to do that. But my question is; can I install programs that will be using XP?

Say I give the virtual OS like 30gb of space, around 2gb of RAM, then while running XP in VirtualBox, can I then install programs that will be running with XP?

Thanks!

A:Installing XP with VirtualBox, Then Installing Programs to Virtual OS?

Absolutely! You install programs to the virtual machine the same way you would on a physical machine. The virtual machine will be able to access the DVD drive, USB drives, internet, network shares, etc... to be able to install software the same as with a physical machine.
