Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

Q: Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

Dell Vostro 1400, Core2Duo. Installed Windows 7 64 bit a year and a half ago. For those not familiar, the Vostro is not entirely compatible with 64 bit, so the drivers are a little hit and miss.

Computer runs slow sometimes, has since the install. I don't think I've ever seen the yellow triangles before, but I may have never looked at the device manager ... the computer is a secondary machine in the house.

My question is, do these indicate a performance problem or can I ignore them and assume the computer is working as best it can?

Preferred Solution: Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Base system device, core processors yellow triangle in device manager

please check out this webpage. it may help you to get started: Device Manager - yellow exclamation point

The yellow icons showing an exclamation point can indicate missing or improper drivers. The system does not seem to recognizing your hardware. Hope this gets you started.

All the drivers you need for windows 10 can be found here on the support page for your computer.  Select windows 10 if it is not already, and download all the drivers that correspond to the hardware inside your laptop.  The chip set and video drivers should be installed first.

Please open Device Manager, and then post a screenshot of the Properties for the device with the triangle. I would also suggest ensuring that your audio/sound card is connected properly, or if it's a onboard sound card then it may even be broken.

How old is your computer?

Update your System Specifications with Speccy, and then copy this information into your System Specifications: Go to your UserCP, and then select Edit System Spec in the left pane. Copy the information from Speccy into the required fields. These System Specifications will then follow your every post.

I would strongly suggest installing some form of ant-virus protection on your computer.

Install and perform full scans with:Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download
Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Remember to install the free version of Malwarebytes not the free trail; untick the free trial box during installation. MSE is the most lightweight and compatible with the Windows 7 operating system

I'm having a persistent issue with my USB and Network controller drivers on my Dell XPS 8700

Dell support site keeps recommending the same drivers even after i install them.

I still have yellow triangles next to them in device manager. When i click to UPDATE the driver in Device manager it can't find them or it just hangs.

When i plug in my ipHone the AutoPlay does not recognize the iphone at all. AutoPlay in control panel doesn't even list iPhone as a device.

I'm wondering if the Dell web site is outdated? Should i be going to the Intel site to get my drivers for my Motherboard?

Any advice welcomed.

First let me tell you about my system.   This is an Inspiron
E1705/9400 laptop with the T7400 Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.16
GHZ.   It has 2 GB of RAM and a brand new 500GB Hitachi Travelstar hard
drive (7200 RPM).   It also has the GeForce Go 7900 GS video card.
It previously had Windows XP Professional (32 bit) and worked fine.
But, I have three computers in my home and home office and would like
them all to work better together on my wired home network, so I am
upgrading all three to Windows 7.   My two desktops (one is Dimension
XPS 420 and the other is Dimension XPS 430) seem like they will be no
problem to upgrade to Windows 7.   But, this laptop was not listed on
Dell's Windows 7 Compatibility List.   However, the Windows 7 Upgrade
Advisor that I downloaded and ran seemed to say that it was OK to do a
clean install of 32 bit Windows 7 and it only had a few minor concerns,
where it said to check for updated drivers from the manufacturer.   The
laptop originally came with a 100GB hard drive.   For my use, that is
getting very small, so I decided to get the same exact 7200 RPM drive
in the 500 GB size.   This will allow me to do a clean install of the
32 bit Windows 7 OS on the new hard drive and not have to wipe the old
drive to do it.   I can just hold onto the old HD and stick it back in
whenever I might ... Read more

After installing critical and security updates for WinXP Pro from MS Update site, one of my pc's wouldn't boot. It will start up to the Welcome screen and just sort of hangs. When I went to restart with CTRL-ALT-DEL, it finished booting. Each time I restart the pc, I have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get it to finish booting. Mind you, this is just the Welcome screen and it does not show any user accounts.

In trying to solve this problem, Dell tech support suggests reformatting the hard drive and re-installing everything. As I began to trouble shoot the problem, I found two processors listed in device manager. The system has only one processor.

When I uninstall one of the processors, the system will boot a little faster but I still have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get the pc to finish booting. When I re-check device manager, the processor I uninstalled is back. It doesn't matter which one I remove or if I remove both of them, they both come back.

I think this is related to the updates and I have restored to a previous point to no avail. I think the problem lies in the registry, but I have no idea where to look. Any ideas?

That means Windows did not pick it up. Did the CD-ROM come with a drivers disk? If so, see if you can reinstall or update the driver. If not remove it, restart, and see if XP will pick it up. There is a possibility that you CD ROM drive is not compatible. Click here for more info at Microsoft's site.http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q295322

A:what is the yellow ! next to the cdrom in the device manager

Unfortunately it means that device is not working properly. I know that's not particularly helpful, but there can be various reason, ranging from very minor to fairly serious for that exclamation mark. First try removing the device. Highlight the cdrom, click on remove, click on OK when it asks if you really want to remove it. Restart the computer and let it find and install your cdrom. Make note of any error messages that come up. Maybe that'll fix it.

The yellow exclamation marks in the device manager are against, in order,: camera (I can reinstall that, not a priority), ethernet controller (high priority, obviously), multimedia audio controller, PCI input device, USB controller (twice), and Video controller (VGA compatible). These are all under "other devices" I have tried the disks which came with the computer (drivers and utilities), but it apparently did not find the drivers on the disk(?). There is no category such as network adapter. I unistalled all of these, but on restarting the computer, all of them are back with yellow exclamation mark.
Additionally, on starting the computer, I get a screen with MS WIndows 98 startup menu, and am given the option of booting from the Windows 98 CD (which I do not have) or the hard disk. Why windows 98? It was never installed on this computer. Selecting hard disk takes me to XP screen. My two drives (DVD and CDRW) also have the letters F and G, instead of usual D and E

In the setup screen (F2 when the computer starts), network interface controller is on, others are either on or auto

Grateful for your help. The wireless modem is working fine for the other computers that I have. If needed, I can reinstall Windows, since I have not installed most programmes yet, but would obviously prefer not to do so especially if I do not know if t... Read more

Hello, recently we purchased a laptop and gave our desktop to my boyfriend's parents. I installed the operating system with the cd that came with the computer. It is a Medion, I would guess 5 years old. It does have Windows XP. I am not sure what other info you may need to help me.
They had cable internet hooked up yesterday, but it will not connect. The technician plugged his laptop into the Medion tower and showed Roger that the internet is working. The tech opened the device manager and showed him a bunch of yellow question marks, and said it won't work until they are fixed, but he didn't know how. I went over and tried to figure it out - the following had yellow ? marks
I tried to install the hardware, but it was asking me for a Cd or floppy disk. I am seriously lost, and would love to fix the problem for them so they can spare the expense of a trip to the Geek Squad people. Is this my fault? Did I do something wrong during installation? I did google these problems, the advice I found was to download updates onto their computer...but I cannot connect to the internet in order to download the updates...
Please help! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

Morning all, how are we? ? ?

Yesterday i had to format my computer and reload windows back on.

Done everything pretty successfully but there seems to be 2 things in Device Manager that have Yellow Question marks beside them -

* Mutlimedia Controller
* Multimedia Video Controller

I havent a clue where to get these from, i have a Dell Dimension 2400 PC, tried the driver disk but doesnt seem to install any drivers to get rid of these, have tried various drivers from dell's official site, and also tried a benchmarking software to see if it would tell me the type of files/drivers that i need, but again, no joy there.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great.

For the longest time now, there has been a yellow exclamation point next to one of my network adapters in Device Manger. It is the Intel PRO /100 VE Network Connection - MWL Filter Miniport. When I double click on it, it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver." So I click Reinstall Driver, choose the "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" option, click next, and then I get a window that says "Cannot Install this Hardware...A service installation section in this INF is invalid." How do I fix this? Thanks.

Hello.I did a fresh clean install of Windows 10 in an Envy 17 notebook. After rebooting a couple of times, but before installing any drivers, I found that the Device Manager did not present any yellow question marks, as it use to do present in my past installations. Looks like Win 10 recognize all my hardware, apparently even the Nvidia control panel is installed. Why is that? This means I don't have to install the drivers I download from the HP site before deleting the previous Win 10 installation? Thank you.

FOr as long as I've had this computer my usb ports haven't been working, and I just now decided to try to do something about it.
When I plug in a device, nothing happens, it doesn't detect it, no baloon pops up, nothing although when I plug in my ipod it turns on, but doesn't charge.

In the device manager I have
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 2658
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 2659
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 265A
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb universal host controller 265B
intel(r) 82801fb/fbm usb2 universal host controller 265C

All of these have the yellow exclamation point, and none of my usb ports work.

I've searched google but couldn't find anything relevant, and I searched on thsi forum, looked through a few pages of results but wasn't gonna be here all night sifting through threads.

Sorry if this question has been asked many times already, but my relatives are starting to get on my case about them not being to use the printer or webcam or their digital cams.

Thanks in advance for any help

You need to first install the motherboard drivers, that's likely the cause of the problem. If that doesn't do it, try uninstalling ALL the devices under USB Controllers and rebooting to let Windows install them again.
