I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day and welcome to the community.

If you haven't seen it already, have a look at this long-ish thread on the same issue on an x270 (same generation as your machine: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X270-Bitlocker-requests-recovery-key-every-ti...

I have since March this machine which is giving me quite a lot of problem. I had several BSOD (or the nicer version Win 10 provides) since several months. I updated even the BIOS. Now it seems related to a specific situation: if the notebook is connected to power supply and goes to sleep. If instead it relies on battery, such issue does not occur. Looking at the minidumps, I notice the main error is always the same PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA caused by ntoskrnl.exe + 1640e0 As I use my machine for computations, it becomes really and issue. If I close it and force it to sleep, everything seems OK (or less reproducible events). I made the Lenovo tests and nothing looks wrong. Missing the CD, I do not know how to make a memtest. I read elsewhere that it be related to nvidia drivers, which I do not think concern this machine. I will attach the minidump files. Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Not sure what you mean by you searched for drivers at Lenovo?  Or are you saying you found the drivers but they dont work?  Either way below is the link to T470s.   Click "Drivers and Software" on top.  You can Choose Windows 7 32 bit or windows 7 64 bit.  Also that link will have "system update" as well.  It should pull down all software for your laptop automatically.  Also you metnion T470s but wasnt sure if you had the 20JS, 20JT, 20HF or 20hg models.

I've just gotten my hands on a new T470s and I'm having trouble getting Bitlocker working on Windows 10 (Enterprise). Everything seems fine, Bitlocker's hardware test succeeds, but on reboot Windows throws an error saying "The Bitlocker encryption key could not be obtained from the TPM". I've cleared the TPM, disabled and re-enabled it, everything I can think of. We are a shop full of T-series laptops and have at least a dozen T460s machines where Bitlocker works just fine. Any thoughts?

Am super frustrated and would appreciate any help.   ThinkPad X1 6th Gen has been dead more than a week;  OS crashed, but several reboot and repair efforts failed.  Tried system restore.  That required a bitlocker key (which I found online) but then the machine would not accept my account password.  So unable to restore.    Multiple calls with Thinkpad warranty support (hardware and software) could provide no help or guidance.  (Except to send restoration media.)  Mind-boggling lack of support... and no way to escalate issue to someone who actually understood it.  Deeply disappointing experience w/ Lenovo. . So now the question is how -- after I reset my system -- do I avoid this nonsense in the future?   I shouldn't have to rebuild my laptop from scratch anytime there is an OS problem.  BTW, I did not order bitlocker, set up bitlocker or create any password for it.  Do not need it or want it.    Can anyone help with advice on how to set up my machine without it? Thanks.

Howdy folks, We have a new rollout of laptops with Win10 that we want the machines to grab the network as soon as they come up so our co-workers can log right in. We have a CA that our ISE service checks before sending to DHCP for addressing and AP allocation. We are seeing intermittent and inconsisent successful connections, every machine in our test group has failed auto connect at least once. Things we have tried:Making sure power settings are set to best performanceTurning off Fast BootDisabling HibernateLatest Intel WiFi driversLatest Lenovo power managementWin 10 build 1709 We have also done some network traces to watch the traffic and see if there was anything glaring that would tell us why the connection would not initiate. We are kind of at our wit's end and could use a few extra eyes/minds on this. Let us know if we can provide anything else and we will see what we can do!  :-) Thanks in advance for any help. -brad and the team

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match
Event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver
Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

A:Bitlocker enabled drive, recovery key needed during boot, PCS did not match, event id 24635, source bitlocker-driver

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

There was not prompt to put my desired password, just reboot. My question is what password is used for bitlocker encryption and login? My windows logon one? Also another issue with TPM chip. I have version 1.2. I was required reset it what I did. Still I am surprised by what password is used during bitlocker encryption? Many thanks Regards Andy

Hi, I got an Apple 30W USB-C (power delivery of 1.5A @ 20V) power adapter and I though I could use it with my ThinkPad T470s (which came with a 45W adapter which broke). Unfortunately, it only seems to be able to charge it when the laptop is off / in sleep mode. I know it's not going to be able to charge the laptop as fast as the original 45W adapter, but I thought it would be able to provide at least some power. Is there a way to make the laptop charge from this adapter when running? I'm not using any especially demanding programs anyway.

Hello everyone,  I recently purchased a used T470s, but it came with a low quality third party charger, and now I really want to buy a genuine Lenovo charger, but my problem is that there are so many options! The T470s product specifications PDF states that both 45W and 65W chargers of the USB-C and SlimTip varities can be used, but what about other charger types?Using the automatic parts finder in the accesories part of support section I also get suggestions for 135W and 170W chargers, which confuses me. Furthermore, the specifications page for the 65W Travel Adapter doesn't list the T470s as a compatible model, even though it's basically a 65W SlimTip charger in a different package. So how can I find the exact charger I need? And what are the differences between them? Can I use the 135W and 170W versions or will my machine blow up? Is the 65W Travel Adapter compatible or not? What other options are there?  Thank you for your help in advance,Martin

Hello @Destro78 Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. BitLocker keys (for personal devices) are stored inside or in many case they are back-up to Microsoft cloud with your Microsoft account. Since this is a tablet, I suspect that I suspect your recovery key is available in Microsoft's OneDrive spaceHere are instructions how you can recover the key as well as how to get back to business.>> http://windowsitpro.com/microsoft-surface/locating-your-microsoft-surface-bitlocker-recovery-key>> http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21433-bitlocker-recovery-unlock-drive-windows-8-a.html  >> http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=237614https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey Login to the MS account there and check.Use the key to login to your PC.Eventually, if you prefer you can disable BitLocker and turn off device encryption, or save/print the key offlinePlease, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it.  More info - re. I'm trying to help my daughter who is away at college with her XPS 13 laptop purchased June 2017.  It's running Windows 10 Home.  She took it out and opened it up after class and a blue screen with BitLocker looking for the recovery key was present.  From what I've read, bitlocker isn't available on the home version, only pro and enterprise.  She can't enter the recovery key since it was never turned on, even if it was available.  I told her it will probably need to be reformatted since it's looking for something that is not available.
Has anyone seen this before? Any recommendations?  She's taking it in to the tech center later today.
I forgot to add that when she goes to her Microsoft account and looks at her devices is shows Windows 10 home AND BitLocker ON, although it was never activated.  The "Get BitLocker recovery keys" link brings her to her Onedrive account.  She says she doesn't see the recovery key anywhere on her OneDrive account.
Thanks,

A couple of weeks ago I posed a question HERE regarding how to tell whether Windows 10 Mobile device storage was actually encrypted and if so where were the recovery keys stored. The good news, is that the device storage is indeed encrypted when turning 'Device Encryption' on. The bad news is that I still don't know where the recovery keys are stored and it can permanently lock you out of your device.

Earlier I reset a Lumia 630 running Windows 10 Mobile 10586.36 (Settings > System > About > Reset Phone) and when it restarted I was faced with a blue Bitlocker Recovery Key screen. The problem being, that it's a Desktop Bitlocker Recovery screen and as this is a mobile device it's completely useless as you can't do anything with it, it just locks you out of the device. Hard-resetting the phone (Volume Down and Power buttons) doesn't work either, it just reboots the device to the Bitlocker screen again.

All is not lost though, as it's possible to Flash the phone back to the original OS by running the 'Windows Device Recovery Tool'. When connecting the phone to the PC and running the Device Recovery Tool, the tool doesn't recognise the device though with it in it's Bitlocker Recovery state and just shows the Firmware and OS as 'Unknown'. So you then need to click on the 'My Device Was Not Detected' button and follow the on-screen prompts. After a few restarts, it will then flash the phone back to the original Windows 8 OS. Bit of a pain, but at least not to... Read more

Dear community, (please bear with me, I am not an English native speaker.) This is not about the "plugged, not loading" issue I found around here multiple times. My Thinkpad will charge via charger only when it is switched OFF. It loads perfectly when plugged via docking station.Batteries are getting empty, power save mode and all that. Pluging two different power units show same result. Behaviour, reproducable:Computer running, info tray says battery 1 in use and battery 2 not loading (or vice versa), no matter if charger is plugged or notWhen charger is plugged while PC runs, the charger indicator light right besides the power plug remains darkOnce my ThinkPad is truly off (shutdown), any of my chargers work just perfectly: orange light while charging, green light when finishedAdditional weirdness: ThinkPad does not start when plugged to the charger. Hitting/pressing the power button at the right of the keyboard has no effect at all. Once unplugged from charger, it boots just as usual. While typing this with 9% remaining capacity, computer shut down. I plugged it to the charger and closed the lid --> orange light. Waited a couple of minutes. Opened lid. ThinkPad wakes up, and I continue writing.Again: charger is plugged, LED light is off again, info tray says not loading/in use. Any ideas?Frederik I am running M$ Win10 Enterprise.

This issue was solved when connencting to the port while the DisplayLink was disconnected.I was connecting a Samsung phone System & Device Firmware/ USB Composite Devices: 10.0.16299.15 peripheral Jack Driver vers. 10.0.16299.15DisplayLink driver vers. 8.3.1905.0USB Root Hub, USB Hub Drivers SuperSpeed and not: 10.0.16299.334USCI USB Connector Manager: 10.0.16299.251eXtensible Host Controller 3.0 10.0.16299.431SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite: 2.12.5.0Phone Driver: Samsung Galaxy S7: 2.9.317.215Realtek Driver: 6.0.1.8224DisplayLink//Lenovo Audio: 8.3.1888.0 most of rest of drivers are firmware vers.: 10.0.16299.15my processor driver vers is 10.0.16299.371

Hello! I'm new to this forum and Thinkpads in general, but recently I got a problem: in Windows 7 my keyboard works like I have sticky/filter keys enabled (many key pressings are not processed and also there is a beep signal sometimes), but I don't. I thought it to be a Windows-related problem, but similar think happens when I'm using BIOS and bootloading through GRUB. Here are the videos showing the glitch: https://youtu.be/MbR0AyVe_7Uhttps://youtu.be/LadCmJXBWmY Right now, because of the problem, the laptop is almost impossible to use. If anyone knows what is causing this, please, let me know!

I know my password and have a copy of my recovery key for my hard drive.  I ran into an issue with my computer and had the computer store install a fresh copy of windows 10.  I had Windows 10 prior (Not sure if same version of 10).   My
Password and my Recovery Keys are not working for the drive.

We have had 4x ThinkPad T470s internal battery which have all swollen in the laptop. ASM P/N: SB10J9003FRU P/N: 01AV406Rechargeable Li-ion Battery NON 11.46V - 2.274Ah/27Wh Really is alarming as the machine has been in the environment for around 14 months. This is a real health and safety risk.

Hi, I searched for another thread on this topic but I couldn't find anything like what I'm seeing. I have a new T470s running Ubuntu 17.10 (Linux). At the end of the workday I remove my computer from the AC charger and close the computer. In the morning when I return to work I open the computer and see that the battery has drained completely. I have only had this computer for a couple days but so far the behavior is consistent: the battery drains completely overnight. Has anyone else encountered this behavior or have any suggestions? ThanksSam
