Help with laptop DVD-drive, is skipping all the movies!

Q: Help with laptop DVD-drive, is skipping all the movies!

Ok, I have a Toshiba DvD-rom SD-C2502 in my laptop and is skipping all the dvds I play, the skipping is ramdomly and sometimes it skips with audio. I load the disk and after 3 to 5 minutes it starts skipping all the time, and this is on every single movie I try to play. DMA is enabled so I guess that is not it. Is it a problem w/ the soundcard or the videocard configuration (I have an Ati radeon 7500)? I tried cleaning the lens and it didn't worked, I also loaded the movies to different programs like WMP, and WinDVD, but that didn't worked either. Can someone help me with this, I am extremely desperate, please help!

Preferred Solution: Help with laptop DVD-drive, is skipping all the movies!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Help with laptop DVD-drive, is skipping all the movies!

Has this always done this or is this something that has just recently started? Do you have DMA enabled on this drive? Check the properties of the drive in the device manager to find out. If it is not enabled, enable it. If it is enabled you just might have a bad drive. I know that Toshiba does not require any kind of special driver for windoze.

I recently bought Painkiller, and am having some trouble with it. The game plays fine, but the opening movie skips terribly. The sound is actually what is skipping, while the video kind of... shudders.

my system specs:
1.8 ghz celeron
40gb hard drive
608mb RAM
Geforce FX5200 video card
onboard sound

Someone told me it might be a codec problem, but I don't really know about that.

I searched through forums but couldn't find this exact problem..

I have CUBASE SE 1.0.7 for Windows XP.

Lately my sounds have been screwed up, SOMETIMES. Yesterday cubase had no problem but today and a few days ago it was acting horribly.

Mainly on record and playback it keeps halting and skipping. It has a bad distortion sound when it does this. MP3s I play are pretty normal, though sometimes they start the halting if I am doing too much on my computer.

Also videos in windows media player and even on youtube do the same thing.

My computer isn't great and can be slow, but it wasn't until recently I was constantly having this problem. Can anyone help? I tried closing all my other programs but it was still doing this.

I have to make a recording for somebody within a few hours, so any quick help would be very appreciated.

I have a Dell PC, 930 MHz, 256 MB of ram (i know this isn't a lot, but like i said i haven't had problems before)

I have an m-audio FW 400 external sound card. Buffer size 256. M-audio recommended making the buffer size larger but my soundcard won't let me! (ie i click the "up" tab and nothing happens)

I have gone through my processes to see if there are any big weird programs running, but everything seems about normal. And even when I close many of them, this problem still exists.

Thanks so much everyone!!

A:Sounds (and Movies) Halting/skipping, Especially In Cubase - Need Help!

The problem you're having isn't going to be fixed in a few hours, not unless you get a faster processor.I have Cubase and other musical tools too, and the reason you're having this problem all of a sudden sounds like you're doing something that is using an instrument that requires a lot of processing to make it sound correctly.I know the signs... You already mentioned that the MP3 files play ok, .. and that's because they're already converted in the format for your computer to play, without the crackling and distortions. Here's another thing you can do to tell.If your music is complete... save it as an MP3 file,,, then play it whatever you have. If you still here the distortions, then it's a processing problem (computer too slow) .... and if you don't here the distortion then you know that you are using an instrument that is causing this.Either way,, by your specs,,,,, you'll have more problems... and it's NOT the program... upgrade your computer.I use:CubaseGigaStudioNuendoFruityloopsCakewalk....etc.....

I have a MSI K8T Neo 2 motherboard, socket 939 AMD 3000+ processor,
512 M ram, an 80 gig Western Digital drive, and a 250 gig one...
I am running Windows XP...everything working. Both my drives register, and I have ran successful diagnostic programs, however every once in awhile, I hear a sound like a fan kicking in, then shutting off right away. Whenever this occurs any programs running lock up and "Program Not Responding" shows up. If I click cancel every once in awhile the program will resume. If that takes too long I end program, and I can usually go back into it, and have it work fine until the next random glitch.

I am not sure if this sound is one of the drives, or something else. Sometimes it will do it a couple times in a row...every once in awhile a blue windows error screen pops up saying something about a kernel issue( I am not familiar with kernels).

All my disk drives show up on my motherboards BIOS, so I do not believe they are corrupt. Windows will restart if I power up my computer after a crash. The type of program operating doesn't seem to make a difference in this glitch...it can happen even if the computer is idle.

Is this hard disk problems...power issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @Noath17bell, Welcome to the HP Forum. I grasp that you downloaded movies onto an USB drive,  when you try to play them , the ones in  MPEG format has both video and audio.but the other formats you get the video but no audio. As this does not appear to be a hardware issue, but a software one please contact Chromebook Help.  HP does not support the Chrome operating system but does support the hardware.  This link may also be useful. HP Chrome OS - Frequently Asked Questions about Your HP Chromebook or Chromebox. Good Luck! To say thanks for helping, please click the "Thumbs Up Icon" below. My DVD drive on my laptop plays a movie find for about an hour but then starts skipping every few seconds so it is unwatchable. The first thing I did was google my problem and found that I needed to ensure DMA is enabled, but unfortunately I cannot find such an option because my drive is SCSI. The only options available for it under the Device Manager are sound controls. One thing to note about my computer is that it's a Dell 600m, which means it has terrible heating problems. To remedy this I have my lappy sitting on a Vantec LapCool2 at most times, as well as using an automated CPU undervolting program known as Centrino Hardware Control. Take note that I have tried running it at max voltage (18x) and min voltage (6x) and the skipping problem still happens, so I'm not sure that it's heat or voltage related. I would rule out any codec related problem because I can play VOB files just fine from my HDD. My hunch is that there is a bottleneck somewhere and hopefully there are settings which can be adjusted to remedy this. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

For a couple of months now my D: drive on my laptop has been messed up to the point where it flutters the audio to a video or CD so you hear a half second of sound and then a half-second of silence constantly. This problem had come up some time ago but I managed to fix it by doing a system restore. Unfortunately now I don't have any restore points before this problem happened.

If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it as not having a working D: drive is brutal.

yeah, well i have a relatively new 52x32x52x Lite-On CD-RW drive. I've had it for a while and I've probably used it 100-200 times to write. It has also been in 2 different computers, however it has always worked fine. Now, all of the sudden it seems to be skipping and making skips on tracks, even though the CD-R media is perfectly clean. Should I clean the lens? If so, what should I buy to do it? if not, what could be the problem?

A:CD-RW drive skipping

You can buy a lens cleaner and see if it works. I have rescued one out of three messed up drives with mine.

I quit using rewrite discs because I have a feeling that erasing them was my problem. I would erase a disk and then try to burn. Dead drive.

It might have been a coincidence but I ain't using them anymore.

Hello Everybody.

Brief Intro
This is my first post here. I lurked this forum and many others trying many solutions to the similar problems of others to no avail. I chose to join this forum to ask my question because you all seemed the most knowledgeable. I know a bit about computers, as I spent a while as an Electrical/Computer engineering student before I switched to Mechanical to focus on robotics, and have dealt with many computer issues before. This one has me stumped at the moment.

Problem: Windows sound and processes "skipping" approximately every 2 seconds. The optical drives do NOT have this problem unless I am trying to run other processes simultaneously. Mp3, Youtube, Streaming video, MPEG, all skip. It is really more of a flutter than a skip, like the signal is being broken down bit by bit for a second and then it goes back to normal. Repeating over and over. It just started doing this randomly one day when i fired it up.

Things I've tried:
-Reinstall Audio/Video drivers
-Ran Cleanup
-Ad aware
-Manually checked running processes for things running out of Temp
-DirectX diagnostic
-Disabling wireless zero configuration via admin tools
-System restore
-Defrag hard drive
..and a bunch of other crap I gathered from forums that didn't do anything.

System Specs:
Toshiba Satellite laptop.
1.6 GHz Single core Intel
100 GB Hard drive
512 mb RAM
Windows XP SP2.

Anything else you need to know, ask and I'll get it for you.

A:Laptop sound skipping / Processing lag. Please Help

you need more RAM
especially if you're trying to run multiple applications and streaming video.
you need to go to toshiba's website and find out what the best ram your machine will take is, and how much you can expand to.
Try and upgrade to at least 1GB, and if you can go to 2GB thats even more recommended.

so a few days ago i made a post in the video and audio forum about all media on my laptop skipping, how it skipped and popped and i thought that it was a hardware issue, that my soundcard was bad or something.
well the wireless internet had also beed acting up, it would drop the internet connection after about 10 minutes and it couldnt reconnect so i would just shut it down.
well i plugged the laptop straight to the router with the ethernet cord and the audio suddenly stopped skipping and whatnot.
so ive concluded that the media only skips when the wireless radio is turned on, but once i turn it off and either have no internet connection or just plug an ethernet cord into it, it works just fine.
what would be causing that issue?
to me it makes absolutely no sense, but maybe someone out there with more knowledge could help me out.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I booted it up yesterday afternoon and discovered the sound was gone. but after a restart the sound came right back. I loaded World of Warcraft and noticed the sound was VERY grainy and occasionally skipped like I had too many programs running and it was trying to keep up.. this has never happened before. I restarted again and the audio was still grainy. I was hoping it was just the game, so I turned on iTunes to check.. the music on iTunes wasn't grainy, but skipped for a moment every other second or so. I've tried updated drivers, chipsets, etc. but nothing seems to work. The computer has been out of warranty for two months, so shipping it probably isn't an option for me right now. Any help is appreciated.. thank you!

Hello all,
I have a 6 month old Compaq laptop with a DVDr/rw drive that out of nowhere the other day started skipping. When playing audio CDs it skips constantly with a lot of "fuzz" or static. When reading software CDs, it read very slowly. The drive still functions, just very slowly. For example, I am still able to install software and import songs into iTunes and it is all perfect, it just takes much longer for the CDrom drive to do it.

My first instinct was that there was dust or dirt on the lens. I used both a soft cloth and compressed air to try and clean it off, both with no results. I tried re-installing the drivers as best to my knowledge and still no results. I am not sure what the problem is and if it is hardware or software related. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

For a while I've had problems with my secondary hard drive (D. Some periods it goes absolutely fine (for months) and some others it gives me difficulty like since this week. Specifically, it has problems accessing files, slow transfer rates, etc. For example when I listen to music off D: (or video), there are minutes that are perfectly fine, others that skip for 2 seconds quite a few times, and times that it pauses for a minute. Note that these are never the same times in the files that it's skipping (i.e. the files are fine).

The last time I had problems was maybe 3 months ago. What I did back then:

Check if in PIO mode: false.
Test with the WD utility: test comes back good on both extended and short SMART test.
Change the SATA cable, problem *apparently* solved

So I thought the cable was the culprit, but now that the problem has come back, there is a fairly low chance that both two SATA cables bought on two separate occasions for different shops and manufacturers (i.e. independent) are both faulty.

Are there any diagnostic tools (other than the usual sector-checking tool and SMART diags) that can help us find the problem when the problem specifically arises (e.g. when skipping)? Any thoughts or clues on this?

Ive had a Dell Inspiron E1505 for about 4 years now.

-Windows XP Home SP3
-Genuine Intel CPU T2400 @ 1.83 ghz - x2 (Centrino Duo)
-1 GB of RAM

I've never had any problems with my cd drive until today when I was ripping a burnt cd. When the cd had 3 songs left to rip it stopped and wouldn't rip no more (the cd was pretty scratched), so I tried to rip just the last 3 songs ( 3 attempts, 1 for each song) with no luck. I ejected the disc and put in a different one (non burnt) and the audio was jumpy and skipping. I tried other cds since then and they all have jumpy and skipping audio, I tried a dvd and the audio was the same way (the video was affected a little if any at all).

Although, I have a video game already installed on my computer (which takes the game disc to play), and I put in the game disc and the audio was just fine, it loaded up and I played it for minute.
I CAN play audio from the harddrive and the internet and it sounds just fine.
I CAN still rip cds with windows media player, and when I play them back it sounds just fine.
I have nottried to burn anything yet.

ALSO, the light on my cd drive's door flashes (maybe insync with the skipping audio, kinda seems like it).

I read a similiar thread on here(but different!) and someone said to look in device manager under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", then go to it's properties, then go to advanced tab and change it to DMA, bu... Read more

Good afternoon everyone, i'd like to ask for some insight on my case which could help me sort out this problem of mine.

If i remember right, it started around 1-2 months ago at the most. My Lenovo laptop started skipping both audio and video for 1 seconds while making a "BUZZING" sound effect randomly between 2-5-10-60 minutes intervallums. It happens whatever i do: watch a movie / listen to music / play a game / watch youtube / watch streams, anything really. This youtube videos shows basically my problem, while for me, it doesn't happen as frequently in video playback, as for that individual. I wouldn't call it lagging constantly, rather just skipping frames randomly.

So afterwards i've tried to search the internet for possible sollutions and if i remember right i did most of these things already with little to no success:
- The top comment on that youtube link suggest to uninstall the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and let windows reinstall others through the windows update. This is the only sollution that HELPED ME a little bit i think. It might be a placebo effect but i think the freezing/skipping turned down from 1.5-2 seconds to 0.5-1.5 seconds.
- I've also tried unchecking this : http://imgur.com/yhy9fiJ
- I've also tried running a full Malware & Virus scan.
- I've also tried to update the audio / video drivers to my best ability.
- I've also tried disabling wire... Read more

A:Watching movies from laptop to tv

It all depends on what kind(s) of video and audio outputs you have on the laptop and what kind(s) of video and audio inputs you have on the TV.

EDIT: As for showing different things on each screen, that would depend on if your laptop supports dual monitor mode with different information on each screen. Then it would be a matter of how easy it might be to have the DVD player software run in full screen mode on one display.

I have a laptop with movies that I would like to watch on my television. My TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-46S2000. It has a VGA slot in the back of the TV and the TV's maximum resolution is 1080i.

After I connect the VGA cable from the laptop to the television, what do I do? I dont see anything.

-Thanks in advance

A:use my tv to watch movies from my laptop...

on the laptop you need to send the signal to the VGA port
to do that usually on laptops you need to press the FN key and then F4 {but the F key may be different - look for a figure like a TV}
each time you press it it will toggle between three setting {not necessarily in this order}
1) Laptop screen only
2) laptop and VGA Port
3) VGA port only

you will also need to link the sound - so a jack plug 2.5mm or 3.5mm depends on what your headphone socket on laptop is - to what ever audio inputs you have TV - probably Phono RCA - coloured red and white for left and right channel

does anyone know if this laptop can handle HD movies like 720p or 1080p?

i will be streaming them over wireless N

A:laptop to play HD movies

HULU? lol

yes I think that that would stream in HD but I would suggest at least 8 Mega Bits per second down stream internet for HD streaming, else you will end up buffering every 10 seconds. If you can't get 8megs, 4 megs will run but you may have to buffer after every break.

My laptop has S Video output. My TV has S Video input. I want to play a movie that's on my laptop's hard drive. I plugged the cord into my laptop and into my TV but nothing happens. The movie shows up on the laptop but not the TV.

(I thought it would be easy, since my DVD player was plugged into the TV's S Video. I figured I'd unplug the DVD player and plug that right into my laptop. Didn't happen.)

Any tips?

Free in this instance might also be illegal! Free is not good particularly for the people who create and then have the fruits of their efforts stolen!

I don't want to "pirate" any movies, but would like to rip DVD's that I bought into my computer so I can put them on my iPod.
Are there ways to rip copy protected DVD's with many chapters/episodes etc?
Which software allows me to do it? Is it legal?

A:Any way to rip DVD movies into my hard drive?

There is no legal way to do that in the USA and discussing ways of doing so is against site rules.

The DVD drive I have is an LG GSA-H22L.
It has a DVD read of 16x. The problem I'm having is that when I use it to watch movies the playback is kind of jerky or rough. The sound and video skips, and at some points it's all just moves in slow motion. I'm not sure why.
With my old DVD-ROM (a much older drive in a much older computer) the DVD playback was perfectly smooth. So I'm kind of confused as to why, when I'm using a newer drive in a better computer, with newer software (the PowerDVD 6.0 that came bundled with the drive) the playback is worse.

If anyone knows anything that could help, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Pioneer DVR-103 DVD-RW drive and now all of a sudden it won't play any dvd movies. I have tried it on Windows Media Player and on WinDVD5 and nothing happens. It will play audio cd'd but not dvd movies. I am running Windows XP. I need help!!!! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!

A:DVD Drive won't play movies!!!

Sounds like the dvd decoder got messed up somehow.

I would look for a virus or any other foreign data in your computer first to see if that is the culprit. If that's not the case, then I would re-install the drive and make sure that you have the latest drivers for it installed as well.

Also, check the region you have it set up for. On some drives you can only change them so many times so be careful and monitor what you have it set up for and how many times you've changed it. I've heard of people basically ruining drives because of this.

Hope that helps some, kiregar

Pc problem. DVD won't read movies, media player says it's blank, but file folder shows .bup .ifo and .vob files. Rip/reinstall found drivers of budgets and DVD drive. System restore did nothing. Still not playing videos. But does play music cds fine. I am using windows 8 and windows media player to try and view, and opening the folder to view the different type of files. I conferred with my tech friends, and they are as stumped as me. So, now I leave it in you guys/gals hands.

Try downloading Free version of the VLC player as a test and see if the movies play on that.

HELP, I just got my friend's ASUS DVD-ROM drive installed on my computer today, but when I tried playing DVD movies, the DVD player (ASUSDVD) just keep giving the error message "Software DVD Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The same happened when I used Windows Media Player, RealDVD Player to play that disk... I also tried playing another DVD movie and still no luck... Even though I can see the contents of the disks in the Windows Explorer but the movies just won't be played... It wouldn't even play VCD movies (same error message)...

However, softwares seem to run fine... Please tell me what might the problem and how may I solve it?

I hooked my laptop up to my Plasma TV via S-video and for the sound, RCA to headphone jack. It works fairly well, but with two issues:

1) The video input is bigger than the TV screen. To explain, when I see my desktop on the TV screen and I move the cursor to the far edges of the screen, the screen scrolls a little bit. The movies play, but they are cropped on the sides. Where or how can I adjust this to make the input from the computer fit the TV screen?

2) The sound is muffled. I don't have a receiver hooked up yet and I tinkered with the sound adjustments in the movie player and on the laptop, but I can't figure out how to make it better. Any ideas?

Thanks, please post your thoughts on these issues.
