Preferred Solution: Lenovo G585 when the laptop starts up a red menu accompanied by a squeak

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo G585 Laptop and I am trying install windows xp over windows 8 the CD boots and when i get to windows is starting screen I get the blue screen error with 0x000007b error. I need help here to overcome this.

A:Solved: Lenovo G585 Laptop

Windows XP doesn't support SATA controllers with AHCI or RAID capability and the controller needs to be switched to IDE, Legacy, or Compatible Mode in the BIOS to work with Windows XP OR you must provide the proper SATA driver via a floppy disc or slipstreaming the drivers onto a custom Windows XP disc.
Have you looked to see if Lenovo provides drivers for Windows XP for that model? Certain things will not work or work properly with what is now becoming an obsolete operating system, for example AHCI, 4KB hard drives, SSD's, USB 3.0, and much more. If you really can't stand Windows 8, even after adding the Start button back so it's pretty much an enhanced Windows 7, then Windows 7 would be feasible downgrade.

burner to make that bootable. still not working now I am getting a blue screen and it shuts down before I can
even read the error code. I do want to mention that I changed things in the bios from uefi to legacy not once have I ran into boot from dvd I have looked everywhere for how to get my laptop to boot from the dvd.
any input would be greatly appreicated.

I can get the headset to pair and start services for listening to music and I can hear through it but the sound is quiet and when the computer sends a sound to the headset (e.g. music is playing, or when "testing" the audio to have it ding), the sound is accompanied by a high frequncy noise. When no sound is transmitting there is no noise. I've tried two bluetooth headphones, most recently Sony 1000xm2 but the problem persists. The headphones work for paired with phone and my desktop computer at home but not with Lenovo T440P. I've updated Bluetooth drivers from Lenovo and that hasn't solved the problem. In device manager for bluetooth radios drivers listed are Intel Wireless Bluetooth driver version 18.1.1511.552 (10/9/2015) and Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator version 6.1.7601.23403 (6/21/2006). The audio sink driver under the headphone properties is Intel version 19.0.1604.618 (3/29/2016). I've tried disabling all the services under the device options except for audio sink but that doesn't help. I've tried using both the headphones or headset as the playback device, and headset is worse and has the same problem, so it's not that I'm using the wrong playback device. Thanks for any and all help

I'm troubleshooting a lenovo g585.  It won't boot.  I've tried removing the power, battery, and holding the power button. The battery is charging.  The light was initially flashing red, it's gone white, and it seems to have charge even after the cable is pulled. When the power button is pressed, power and battery are white. The fan turns on.It tries to access the optical drive. No bios, no splash, screen stays black. After a few seconds power light turns off, battery light blinks, and I'm back to square one.I've pulled the drive and attached it to an external drive unit.  Drive spins up fine, is fully accessible, and no sign of any errors or issues. Do you guys have any ideas?

Lenovo G585 Wireless Network Issue [ Edited ]
‎11-23-2012 04:25 PM - edited ‎11-23-2012 04:35 PM

I just purchased a brand new Lenovo G585 laptop and after I powered it on for the first time, I tried to connect to the internet wirelessly but I only saw the Ethernet option under network connections in the control panel and not the wireless LAN or WIFI option.

I looked to see if any drivers were installed correctly and I believe they were. I manually downloaded the wireless LAN driver and installed it. It said that it was already installed but I still performed a overwrite and continued to install it. After it was finish, a warning popup came up and it said "No appropriate driver to be installed."

I wasn't able to figure it out on my own what the problem may be so I contacted the Lenovo tech support and they did a remote session. They basically did the same thing I was doing when I tried to figure out the problem. Also, I went into the BIOS menu and saw that the Wireless LAN Support was enabled so the representative told me that it shouldn't be a hardware issue, it'll most likely be a software issue. He couldn't figure it out either so they told me to call the premium tech support which handles the software issues and they'll help you solve the problem but I've contacted them ... Read more

I recently just purchased a Netgear C7100V earlier tonight and everything seems to be working great, however, two Lenovo laptops that my parents use can connect to the 2.4 GHz network, but they won't have any pages load when they try using the internet. It's just stuck in a loop of loading, or it goes to a crash page where it says the internet isn't working, even though it says they're connected. I should also mention the 5 GHz network doesn't show up at all for them. I'm assuming that's because the wifi chip they have isn't compatible. The Lenovo laptop models are G580 and G585 like I said in the title. Are they just not compatibile with the C7100V's connection in general? Because once again, I tested both connections with all of my devices, and they work with no issues. Is there some wifi setting I need to enable, so the Lenovo laptops won't struggle? Or do I have to enable some sort of setting in their laptops?

Maybe the screen is defective, maybe the graphics (display) adapter is defective, or maybe even motherboard failure. Try an external monitor.

Hello All-    My parents have an old Lenovo G585. It was really very slow so I had installed Samsung evo 250 GB SSD in it which I had available and also upgraded the operating system to a clean Windows 10 Pro since I thought that Windows 8 had lots of not needed software slowing it down.    To my surprise, the system is now very sluggish(I know the CPU is already bad). I see that CPU is always 99% used. Most of the CPU (~80%) is being used by windows modules installer service and antimalware service executable. There was OneDrive there too but I already disabled that.I can disable both of these services as well but I need to know if I am doing something wrong or have missed something.    All your help will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Regards,Sylvan

Hi rahul2000,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Guidance for Lenovo OneKey Recovery, hidden partition and Recovery DVD (ordered from Lenovo).
" If the hidden partition is destroyed or replaced hard drive, you won't be able to restore the system through Lenovo OneKey Recovery software. You need to utilize the Recovery DVD, read more from below related articles:"How to recover the system to Factory settings with Recovery DiscsHow can I get a system recovery CD, DVD or USB from Lenovo
Formatting would delete the hidden partion during the clean install on your harddrive.
You can call in tech support for orders of your recovery media.
You can also simply download Windows 8 media ISO to clean install it matching the OEM product key embedded on the systemboard so you would not need to purchase. You can use this tutorial for additional reference.
Hope this help answer your query.

Hello All. I have a unique problem, that I would love to see if anyone else has had or any thoughts. I am trying to deal with a Lenovo G585 Laptop. The screen broke on it, as a dog stepped on the screen, cracking it. The laptop does turn on, and I do see a picture on the existing screen, it just has a huge crack through it. So, I ordered a new screen, and replaced it in the laptop.  It is a 15.6 inch screen. Now, when I turned on the screen, I can see that the screen does take an image, but the backlight does not turn on. At first, I thought that the new screen was defective, but I have since replaced it with another screen, and it does the same thing. I have also tried to turn the backlight on through the keyboard, with no luck. Here is the weird thing. If I put the old screen back on, it lights up no problem. Then when I put the new screen in, right after and keep the laptop plugged into the wall. the new screen also lights up. When I take out the power, the new screen no longer lights up, but the old one does. I don't think its the lcd cable as that doesn't explain the power/no power thing, and this laptop has done this now with two different screens. What am I missing?

A:Lenovo Laptop g50-45 suddenly shutdown and then the fan starts to high

It MAY be a problem of CPU throttling, basically your CPU/GPU gets really hot like 90+ (it may vary from system to system) and to extend your pc's lifespan it shuts down and/or sets the clock speed of the cpu to a lower value, so slows down the pc.If that's the problem (overheating) you just have to clean the fan or change the thermal paste.

You do not need to post the serial numbers on messages in public forums... It can lead to problems with others using it frauduletly.
If your system is a G585 then it may have an upgrade path for a fast CPU or more memory, provided it is in the Maintenance Maual's parts listing.  Uprading the CPU can be difficult for those that lack experience and tools necessary to perform the task properly.  It may be time to retire the notebook and look for a new model that can work better for your needs.

A:Serious problem with starting Levono G585 Win 8.1 laptop!

When Windows 8 shuts down it does not really shut down like Windows 7. It a hybrid shutdown in order to create a faster boot. See if the following works for you.
Hold the Power Button for 5 seconds or until the computer completely shuts off.
Press the Power Button to turn the computer on.
As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off.
Repeat this process 2 or 3 times until you see the Preparing Automatic Repair screen.
By powering on and off you might be able to get to the Automatic Repair screen.

A:My laptop starts beeping when turning it on, but never properly starts

The system isn't detecting the display panel.
If the system is under warranty, call Dell. If not,
Check the connection between the display cable and mainboard.  If it's loose, reconnect it.
If there's evident damage to the cable, and it's a non-touch model, replace the display harness.
If it's a touch or tablet screen, the cable isn't separately replaceable.  In that case, the screen assembly needs to be replaced.
If that doesn't solve the problem, the mainboard is the faulty part and will need to be replaced.
If you need a reference to the service manual, please post the full model number (i.e., Inspiron 5521, etc.).

I'm seriously at my wits end. My base question is could an error of the nv_4 display driver happen due to damaged video hardware?

The Story:

The long story of what's going on is a year ago I asked a friend to build me a machine. He has an Associates in computers, I trust him to know something about computers, certainly more than I know. Couple months after I install and play Neverwinter Nights 2, and my screen starts artifacting. I call him, he tells me to underclock the card (there's a program that came with it, I turned the clocking down, problem solved).

Time passes. Sims 3 then wreaks havoc on my graphics. Artifacts, lines. I google, find out heat could be an issue, I get a program that records heat temps. My card has reached 115*C while playing Sims and did not shut down as it's supposed to. At this point another friend suggests that the card is probably going to die sometime because of it having hit those temps. I wait.

Months pass. A couple weeks ago I noticed my mouse was hanging, freezing, totally shutting off at various intervals, largely when I'm on the net or playing Oblivion. I think my mouse is dying, no big.

I start playing NWN2 a few weeks ago. On a Saturday I play for a good few hours, and suddenly the screen flashes. I have to completed boot into Safe Mode, else the screen keeps freezing on the Windows Load screen. Once I go completely into Safe Mode and shut down, restart...the screen acts normal. This happens during NWN2. Unt... Read more

I think the title is actually the best I could do to describe my issue. Every few months on average since I bought it last August, my Asus T300 laptop suddenly starts to "shudder" (I can hear and feel a vibration) and that pops the Windows 8 Start Menu. It happens one to three or four times in a row, so it switches rapidly between the Start Menu and the desktop. And this lasts for a dozen minutes to half an hour. During this time I can basically do nothing, since the Start menu will constantly bother me whatever I am doing.
Here is a video explaining better than a thousand words, and I assure you I'm touching NOTHING :https://www.dropbox.com/s/z73j79hbq3...94036.mp4?dl=0
I don't know how to use my warranty, because if I show my PC to the after sales service they are never gonna believe me since it works perfectly fine 99% of the time, the issue randomly happening only once or twice every couple of weeks for some reason.
What I find really odd is the shudder, I never saw my laptop using this vibration feature otherwise, so maybe this problem is actually a windows 8 functionality I didn't know about (like "do this to pop up the Start menu any time") ?

All sounds for devices muted, including speakers. Short squeaking sounds appear to come from within the laptop (under the keyboard) and not through the speakers. The sounds apppear to occur randomly. What could be the source of the squeaking sounds and how to stop them?

A:The notebook emits a short squeak at random times.

How long did it take from the first use of the laptop before the sound appeared. At my opinion the reason can be one of the following:1. The laptop is new one and this is just the noise of the hard disk. Some hard disk make such kind of a sounds.2. The laptop is old one and the hard disk is going to die and sounds are from the hard disk too.3. What you hear is just the sound of the buil-in speakers on the motherboard and the sound appear when you press multiple keys or repeatedly press shift key. I am not sure, so wait for another opinion.

Second problem was the high Load/Unload Cycle Count. After a lot of headache on finding why my HDD was making such a clicking, creaking, squeak noise randomly every few minutes, I finally managed to find the solution, I installed: - CrystalDiskInfo- Intel Rapid Storage Technology (I have a intel controller (Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller).(https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25165/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver)In the Intel program I disabled Link Power Manager option: since that the sound is almost completely gone (much "better" sound, not a squeak anymore).   In CrystalDiskInfo I change the following settings (APM disabled on every start-up):  Plus:  In this way the number of Load/Unload Cycle Count dropped. Note: FYI of course you need also to disable the power saving from Windows:  Hope that this post will help a lot of people that have a Pavilion or another laptop with this HDD, thinking it is damaged and sending it to support without finding a real solution. Intel and HP should disable these option by defau... After I hit the power on button, there is light on Power button, also 2 led lights in the front are ON but there is nothing on the screen. But after maybe 15-20 min the Lenovo welcome screen is displayed and my Laptop starts working normally. Once it starts there is no issue in the working. The only problem is that it starts very very late after hitting the power On button.Kindly help. What can be the issue. Regards,Namrata Ghag

Hello guys, I own a Lenovo Yoga 2 11" for two years and I hadn't met a problem with it since then. The last time I used my laptop (3 days ago) I started it with the power button normally and everything worked fine. But today, I tried to start it clicking the power button but it didn't work, tried many times and nothing. Then I clicked the Novo button and it started with the boot menu. The options "Starts Normally", "Boot Menu", "System Recovery" and etc showed up. So, I turned off my laptop and tried to turn it on again with the power button many times, but all of them failed and now it only starts with the Novo button. I would like to know if it is a confuguration problem or its a fisical problem (my power button just gone), or if Lenovo or Microsoft had dropped a update that change it or something else?. Thank you guys.
