I use Sony Vegas 6 for video editing. Today I opened the program and went to the "Import" menu, but the program shut down and disappeared. I reopened it and went back to the menu, but again the program closed. This keeps happening when I go to the "Import" menu - any way I can get it to stop?Edit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Uninstall...reinstall...update Vegas 6 seems worth an effort.
This post is to hopefully throw some more light onto a problem that I've only just found a workaround for.
The workaround is not a fix by any means but it allows the software in question to work again.
Sony Vegas 10.0c ?Stopped Working? and no amount of uninstall/reinstall and/or deleting all traces in the registry would fix the problem.
The problem is apparent with all versions of Sony Vegas prior to 10.0c, Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD, and associated packages (DVD Architect Studio 5.0 and Sound Forge Audio Studio 10.0 etc)
Diagnosis and workaround:
Turns out that there is some sort of conflict when Microsoft Office 2007 is installed too.
?WowExec.dll? in the Office install folder is the offending article and as soon as the dll is renamed (wowexec_bak.dll) the ?Stopped working? issue vanishes. I don?t know if either Microsoft and/or Sony have made a fix for this problem but renaming the WowExec.dll file is a temporary workaround. A few error messages may appear when running Vegas for the first time when WowExec.dll is disabled but it allows Vegas to run again.
This issue was on Windows XPSP3.
Anyone else encounter this problem? If so, is anyone aware of a permanent fix?
Its NOT wowexex.dll at all!! it's Grooveutil.dll !
I don't know what I was thinking but it wasn't this!
Every time i open up sony vegas 10 and i put in a clip-that i just recorded with my hd pvr- and on the preview thing it shows the top left of what i recorded.
I think i accidentally clicked on a random thing and now everytime i open sony vegas it does this. And it is not my hd pvr because with the raw clips i watch the video on windows media player and it is normal
Please help me someone
a couple of things to check:
have you altered the setting for the monitor window? it should be set to "fit to window" or some wording similar ( I don't have Vegas but most editing software has the capability to change the size/view of the monitor window.
what are the initial settings of the project? if you are only seeing the top left of your recorded clip it sounds like the pixel dimensions of the project file are too small - they should match the source files' dimensions. If they don't, the stage is too small and can only show part of a clip unless you scale the clip down to suit. Vegas has a "match to source" function from memory: when setting up the project you can click on that and Vegas gives you a project with the settings matched to the source.
I have a class in digital media and I am learning how to use "User Support Forums". Can someone please answer the following question for me? Thank you
In Sony Vegas, what does the "auto-ripple" effect do for a sound file? How do you get it to work on your sound file?
Please if you know the answer let me know
It does the same thing that the standard ripple effect does. It closes gaps after you make cuts. Just make sure both your sound and video track or chosen.
HEY! I have managed to download Sony Vegas pro 10.0 and seeing that I downloaded it, I do not have a serial number or any other information necessary to get the full version. Would anyone by chance have a serial number and any other info I could use?
We do not support cracked software here. Please see the Forum Rules.

I plan on doing a lot of video editing this weekend. I make some video blogs for gamespot and I want to do at least 3 videos this weekend. I finally got Sony Vegas version 7 but I don't know how to use it.I had Windows Movie Maker but it crashed too many times and I was tired of it. I also installed the software that came with my webcam. It does basic editing. But do you think that I should keep Sony Vegas installed on my computer? I've been hearing that Sony Vegas is the best for video editing. Do you think that I should try Adobe Premiere?
I personally found Premiere Elements easier to use than Vegas but I think there will be a learning curve for all REAL video editors when compared to the more rudimentary video editing programs like WMM.
There is no "best" either. Its more like what do you specifically need and does that video editor do that better than the others or not. So I'm a Premiere Elements and Studio 11 user and Premiere allows for multiple video and audio track mixing a LOT better than Studio, BUT, Studio is unmatched when it comes to more complex clips where I want to make a bunch of clip edits. If I was looking for great stability, Premiere. If I was looking for high volume throughput of a lot of video, Studio, but I would definitely be sacrificing stability.
I have Sony Vegas 7 and 8 but for some reason i can not put anything in them, Video, Audio, ETC. I really would like help because i want to use it. please help me try and fix it so i can put stuff in it and actually start editing.
Both the links below are training videos provided by sony. The first one provides the basics of the Vegas program, but sony recommends using them to learn the basics. The second link contains some more indepth editing options which are available in vegas 8. All videos are free and could probably do a better job explaining it than we could.
I installed Sony Vega 10 and is telling me an error occured starting vegas pro an internal error happend in the common language runtime's execution engine' Details: 'Failed. I already uninstall and reinstall; still same thing. Can any-one help me with this. Has any-one found a solution for this.

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place...
Ok I'm having some problems with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. I've made a video that I'm very proud of, only to find that when I render and play it, all I get is the audio and only the first 11 seconds at that.
If anyone could shine some light on this, it would be much appreciated.
I'm new here, was looking around google for a place to get help with my Sony issue >.o I hope AMV help is allowed.
I made a video in Sony Vegas. That was fine, I went to render it
and that was fine..except when I was done rendering it it became this.
^See all the blackouts between clips? THOSE USED TO HAVE CLIPS, it blacked out certain parts.
Now, I know it's not the codecs/formats. Because I made it with ONE MOVIE, not a bunch of episodes, one movie that was all one format.
That I split myself in Vegas. So that issue is out.
It's not the transistions, because clips that didn't have transistions messed up..
It's not looping, I turned that off and tried.
A friend said when they speed up or slow down clips that happens to them. But I need those sped up, so I tried to split the slowed down ones, STILL NOTHING. It shows the transistion/effects but not the clip.
It's not what I'm rendering it as either, tried all different ones.
It's not effects, took all those out and still nothing.
It's not space between the clips, zoomed in as far as it would go and there's no blank spaces.
I STILL GET BLACKOUTS NO MATTER WHAT!
Does anyone have that same problem or know what to do to fix it? >.<
I really need help ASAP, I can't make any AMVs till I get it fixed. It happens with all AMVs I render.
I am running on Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
With only 128MB RAM... Read more
Is there anyone to help?
I explained the problem thoroughly and yet..my post seems to keep getting skipped >.<
I have installed Sony Vegas 5 and when I try to run this program it gives me An error occured. The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications. My system is Win xp home,P4 2.8, 2gigs ram,and approx 40gigs free space on hard drive. I have tried shutting down all application but no luck. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks
Greetings $C13%...Welcome to TSF!
Could you please post back with more details of the 'program' that you are trying to run on your computer; particularly the actual 'error message'.
This information will assist us to help you resolve this issue.
Hey Everyone and thank you very much for visiting my thread, hopefully you'll be able to solve my problem....
I Have an HP Pavillion Laptop with Windows Vista 32bit SP2 Home Premium
I've had it for two years now and it's wonderful.
Well except for two things....
1) I'm a film major and I use Windows version of Adobe Premier, which is Sony Vegas Pro 9. The program was working fine when I first got it, but recently it continuously becomes non-responsive. I make one or two moves, and the whole program just freezes...the "window message" pops up and I have to close down the program.
-Now I?ve tried programming my computer making SV (sony vegas) the highest priority when it's running, but so far it doesn't help.
- I also run Adobe After Effects on my computer and it works perfectly fine, but I only use that for motion graphics instead of the video editing
2) When ever I do run SV, my fan goes crazy and my computer heats up! I bought an external fan, but it does not seem to help. (And yes I know my CPU fan is working properly because you can practically hear it. And I clean it every month)
...and in all honesty, i really don't want to spend $$$ for a Mac.
Because I know you?re going to ask here are my computer specs:
OS Name: Microsoft? Windows Vista? Home Premium
Version: 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
System Model: HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC
System Type: X86-based PC
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor ... Read more
Welcome to Vista Forums!
I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 too, and iv'e never experienced anything like that...
When does the problem happen, like when your rendering the movie?
I'm just thinking here, when the program freezes, leave it for a while, 10 minutes maybe, when you try to close or stop the program from doing anything, it "confuses" the computer even more.
Hope this helps you,
And please remember to post back with what you have tried,
Hello everyone..I'm new here, yes I admit it.
Does anyone have any Sony Vegas knowledge? If so, I'm wondering if you can help me.
I'm running 6.0, and I am going crazy trying to composite a title. I simply want to add a label to a piece of video, but I cannot make the background transparent. When I follow the instructions to drag a preset Sony Text (with the globally recognized grey checkerboard transparent pattern) frame up onto my video timeline, the title 'page' completely covers my video. It's anything but transparent.
I hope that made sense, if not, let me know. Any help anyone might be able to provide would be GREATLY appreciated!
BTW -- Windows XP, Athlon 64 3200, 1 gig RAM, size 10 shoes, 256 meg ATI 9600 video card.
I'd love to know that too... i see it all the time, can anybody help us?
I've recently started making videos with Sony Vegas 8.0 and I seemed to have made a mistake. I somehow made it to where I cannot see the preview box, so if I'm editing I can't see what I just did or how to fix it. Is there any way at all to reverse this?
Can you reinstall?
I've got the keygen, serial number and the activation code....i copied it on the Sony Vegas Pro 8.0, when it asks for a activation code, but it was correct!!! but it just keep sayin' that it was NOT correct. i've Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 and i chose 'Vegas Pro 8.0a (build 179)' or somethin' like that, but i believe that it was correct for sony vegas pro 8.0... i don't know that's the problem in my ***, but could somebody please help me?
Purchase a legal copy and you won't have such issues.
Has anyone used Sony Vegas? I am interested in purchasing it to edit some DV. In the past I have used Avid products. Would anyone know anything about VEGAS? I have heard good things. Do I need a break-out box? I have a pretty decent machine to run it on:
> - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Dual core processor 4 MB cache
> - 2 GB DDR2667MHz Dual Channel Ram
> - Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express Video Card
> - Dual Layer DVD burner drive
> - XP
> - 500 GB SATA -2 HD
> - 160 GB OS drive
Will vegas and this combo be good?
Your computer shouldn't have any problem running Vegas. There are, however, different versions: If you get the Studio version, it is basically a scaled-down version of it's big brother Vegas Pro. The price difference, however, might be daunting: Studio runs around$90 and Pro runs around $700. If you are a beginning at editing, then the Studio version would be the ticket. If you have already done some editing and no longer consider yourself a novice, then the Pro version is definitely the way to go. As I said before, it's an expensive alternative to Studio, but if you are a serious editor and plan on doing more than just a few home vid's...need I say more? It is, in my opinion, a full-featured editor with a small learning curve. Good luck!
hey guys, i need some help in vegas pro 9. i recently downloaded two short clips off of youtube using "youtube downloader" and it saved them as two .mp4 files. i imported them into vegas in an attempt to merge the two clips together for viewing simplicity. upon exporting, i noticed that the video quality DRASTICALLY dropped when i used the same format (.mp4), however, when i tried using .wmv, the quality was equal to the original. can someone explain this to me? (im a complete noob at video)
*also, can someone recommend a format that will yield the BEST quality, at all costs
**is there a hierarchy of video formats? if so, can someone tell me?
I do not have that software, but it could be down to the export settings for that file type.
So I just downloaded Vegas 9.0b today and I get an error before the program can open saying that theres an internal error in the Common Language Runtime's Execution Engine and that the script host failed to initialize. How do I fix this?
My first step would be to download it again, from a different place if possible, and try reinstalling it. Sounds like the download was corrupted.Read other 2 answers
I am using Vegas and I need help. My question is how do I change the playback time so it plays much faster. I have imported a sequence of images I rendered in Maya at 24 fps now in veges I have about 190 images and it plays them back 1 second each image. how do I change it so it will play all 190 pictures in about 8 seconds? thanks to anyone that can help.
I think I found It out I do It as a slide show and their is an option to change the timing. But now it has black looking frames in between how do I get rid of them?
Here it is high lighted where you changed it
I have accidentally changed some settings in Vegas. For some reason when I add a video effect (ie brightness) to the clip, it will no longer show the effect of the video effect (on the timeline) until I render the clip. I've had all the settings go back to default layout but it still won't show up. Very frustrating. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys i own a legit version of Sony Vegas, running XP pro (also legit) and i have plenty of room and memory at my disposal. I have the program and content i wish to edit on seperate drives. Now whenever i go to access the files i wish to edit it crashes windows explorer, i uninstalled and reinstalled windows and formatted and at first it was working i was able to get a good 2 hours of video editing in, and now tonight i go to open the project file again it crashes. Im all out of ideas as to whats causing this. I have Sp3 and im running Comodo and Avast as well as Bo Clean. Can anyone help me out?
Is this a DEP (data exception prevention) error that's killing explorer? If so I find it happening more and more on my systems. Of course its designed to prevent a virus from executing from a "data" environment, but trying to access media files, especially video files from another drive on the network, external or even internal also triggers the DEP and since windows explorer is the vehicle, that's what gets killed.
You can try turning DEP for explorer and any other related programs off (System properties>Advanced>Performance settings>Data Execution Prevention) and see if that cures it or at least helps.
I have just loaded sony vegas and just started playing around with it i use a kodak easyshare. when i load my videos on to the computer they are .mov files, i downloaded quick time so they would open. now when i import the .mov file into vegas it makes another .skf file where the .mov is located. so i have to keep delete all these stupid .skf files that are popping up..... i probly caused this to happen my self but im not sure how does any one know how to stops this?
Ok, so I have tried downloading Vegas about 3 or 4 times now,and every time, it looks like I have everything worked out, but then I get a message requesting a cookie, any suggestions for fixing that?
Also, when I use the "register online" option and go to the page, it gives me an "error -32", any tips for that?
Also, I use a keygen for this, please give me a list of steps to make sure this can work for me (my computer is an XP).
Ok reading between the lines..using a keygen suggests that you really don't want to register online. Unless of course Sony have issued a keygen which I doubt.
But thats none of my business. If you have done what I think you have done then don't register online as that will tell Sony that you have Sony Vegas.
Best follow instruction you got from your "source". If that source is lacking and it sounds as if it is, then download the application from another supplier.
Keygens can be very good but also very BAD. Holding dodgy files that can cause damage to your registry or leave trojans.
Also this keygen may not work with xp.
If I have assumed wrongly and Sony have given out keygens to register their product then please accept my apology, but if they have I will eat my hat.
Oh Arrrr me shipmates
I shot some video tonight and edited it in vegas. The video is pretty dark, but I can still see the details and shadows during editing.
When I rendered the video it came out too dark, and I couldn't see ANY of the details that were visible in the editor.
How do I get the program to render my video and not make it darker? Does that make sense?
What were you rendering too--what format. I need to know what your settings were before making a comment.
what does the term DV stand for?
It's a type of video. It refers to the codec used to compress the video. DV video is commonly used by video cameras hence the name mini-DV. The mini being the tape size and the DV being the type of video.
I started using Sony Vegas yesterday to try and make a WoW movie with recordings from Fraps, the fraps files are saved as .avi and I can import them into Sony Vegas without any problems. I was able to play these within Sony Vegas and Render the files as .avi and .wmv, after a few test rendering I was no longer able to render without Vegas crashing causing like here http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/544/sonycrashhq9.jpg
And now its crashing even when I try to play the movie using Vegas, I tried creating the movie again and I got the same problem. The original files which I am using in the movie work perfectly so I am clueless to what the problem maybe.
This is the error im getting in my event viewer
Faulting application vegas70.exe, version 126.96.36.199, stamp 45ae87d4, faulting module frapsvid.dll, version 188.8.131.5286, stamp 4587e2e2, debug? 0, fault address 0x00001b90.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I tried reinstalling .NET framework files which didn't make any difference
When playing my movie in Vegas I notice it freezes when it tries to change from one clip to another, it freezes and then comes up with an error but the music still plays in the background.
Can anyone help me out please?
I have installed Sony Vegas Pro 12 and upgraded the graphics card with a model that Sony says is compatible, but I still can't preview or render 3D video in it. Vegas settings are according to video format, it is on the timeline and the preview monitor does display the image.
I heard you need to tweek windows in order for Vegas to work.
Can anybody tell me how?
Ok So today i Downloaded the trial version of vegas pro 9.0b installed fine and everything but when it came to running the application that was the problem. I get this error message when vegas reaches to loading the audio engine on the splash screen and then i get this message "The Twain Manager could not be initialized. TWAIN_32.dll missing or corrupt" what could be the problem here i know this file is to do with scanners and cameras however i have none of those connected to my laptop im lost if anyone has any thing please. oh just for the record i have check that wow.exe thing that some other people have suggested and that solution does not work i need help i wanna use Vegas to make music videos and stuff.Read other answers
Hi guys. I recently picked up a Dell T5500 with a single Xeon 5645 from a friend to replace my aging Celeron 3300 that was entirely too slow for video editing. The machine runs great, boots quickly, but I get lockups either while editing or rendering in Vegas. One of two things happens, either a bluescreen or complete lockup.
I have run Memtest and gotten no errors, y-cruncher and others to stress the processor, nothing but running Vegas seems to cause the issue.
Any help would be greatly apprecitated!
Below is my collected logs.
I didn't start out to respond to this but the Celeron part caught my eye, had never run into a Dell Precision that used that CPU.
That is a powerful computer.
As for the problem, I'd wonder if the 120GB SSD has sufficient room on it. Or is there a second drive, maybe a 2TB instead of the 2GB mentioned?
hi guys, i was just wondering if there was a problem with vegas video 4 and the xvid codec. i used another program, videomach, to compress a bunch of bmp images into a xvid coded avi file. now, when i go to open it up with vegas to add effects and such, it wont open at all. but, it will open other avi movies that are NOT coded with xvid. so, is this a vegas 4 problem, and that it doesnt like the xvid codec or something? any help on this would be appreciated.

These might even be related for all I know.
1. How do you set the number of times you want a region to loop? I have some I want to loop maybe three times or so, but not forever... Makes the video kind of long, right?
2. Is there a way to adjust the audio volume level within a clip. I know some programs allow you to place a "handle" in the volume level line within a clip and drag it up and down. I'd like to pull the audio down during a V O, and bring it right back up after. I know I can split the audio clip and do it that way, buy I suspect the more knowledgeable have an elegant way of doing this.
Being a newbie isn't for sissies! LOL
