is Pocket WiFi device practically the same as any Android/iPhone?

Q: is Pocket WiFi device practically the same as any Android/iPhone?

Hello. I need a mobile WiFi device, is a Pocket WiFi practically the same thing as any Android or iPhone that could serve as a personal hotspot? In terms of the signal strength and reliability.

When I access ANY website or services on any other portable devices with the WiFi provided by the Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot, I know that a website or service could trace or fingerprint my portable device that accesses the sites or services, but would the websites or services be able to trace or fingerprint my Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot as well?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Help!  I bought the HP Pocket Playlist upon the recommend of the CNET website.  However, I have never been able to get it to connect to any of my devices [i.e. my devices like my iPhone] cannot detect the Pocket Playlist, even though the WiFI blue light is on.  I tried to redownload the software for the device, but it causes my Windows 10 machine to lock up. I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.  I apologize for posting in the board, but I saw nothing that came even close to a board that dealt with these devices.  It has been very frustrating.  I fell like I just bought a very expensive USB drive.

A:Cannot get Pocket Playlist connected to any device via WiFI

Sorry to hear about the troubles that you are having.  When you have the Pocket Playlist in "Wi-Fi mode" (via the switch on the right side of the device), and turn the HP Pocket Playlist on, the blue Wi-Fi light should come on.  It sounds like this part is ok from your description.  Basically the HP Pocket Playlist creates it's own Wi-Fi network, so even if you are in the car, hotel, etc your phone/tablet can connect to that network and stream music, videos and photos. At this point, you'll need to download/install the HP Pocket Playlist app on your iOS device (it's in the app store).  Then go into your iOS device's "Wi-Fi settings".  You should see a wireless network associated with the HP Pocket Playlist.  Is that present in your case?  If so, select that network, and wait for your iOS device to fully connect (you'll see a little Wi-Fi icon appear in the iOS notification area when it's done connecting, it can take a minute if it's the first time that your iOS device has connected to the Pocket Playlist).  After that, run the HP Pocket Playlist application on your iOS device, and it should detect your HP Pocket Playlist and allow you to play back the multimedia files you stored on it. Hope that this helps!

I work for HP.

this concerns file sharing Win7-to/from-Android devices.
some of you use android as I do. there are a lot of apps and utils etc for connecting to lan/wifi but I'm wondering what you have found that is best? the file manager app I'm using can address a 'server' via tcp address but I was thinking I had read of a simpler approach - just cannot easily find via searching and reading descrips.

all advice gladly received!

A:Best way to WIFI share with Android device?

I'm a total noob with Droid, but all I have to do is turn on WiFi on the device, then it will notify of available networks. I tap one, choose connect and I'm on it.

Looking at a few Android phones right now. Mostly LG and Sony are catching my eye, the rest of the brands seem to be on the decline. My Note 4 is almost at life's end after just 10 months, and I can confidently say I will not be looking into Samsung again.

So the question at hand, especially with more and more Android security issues arising with their OS changes, is do I make the jump? Are iPhones as good as they are marketed to be? I'm well aware that they are technologically behind out-of-box, but their OS mitigates that con by being incredibly smooth to use.

I use my smartphone for 4+ hours per day and I have been on Android for almost 10 years now.

This will be a $800+ purchase, so serious responses please.

I have some questions about smartphone security, specifically the difference between the Android & iPhone platforms. My motivation is curiosity. I am not using this information to decide which phone to purchase (I use a Tracphone).

Reading several articles on various web sites, I get the impression of the following:
(1) Android is less secure than iPhone
(2) There is no known malware for iPhone

Are these statements true? Is there any hard data that documents malware for the different platforms?

Anti-malware software: There appears to be several products for the Android, but I cannot find any product for the iPhone. Is this discrepancy due to Apple's superior security technology?

A:Android vs iPhone security

I am not a Apple expert (because I think it sucks) but there is no malware for Apple, so they have no anti-malware programs. The reason is that is open source and all members who use it can fix any problems.

Apple's iPhone has been kicked to third place in the smartphone wars. A new report says that phones powered by Google's (GOOG) Android system are now outselling iPhones.

Android phones rocketed to the No. 2 position for smartphones sold in the U.S. last quarter, the NPD Group reports. Android phones nabbed 28% of the market compared with 21% for the iPhone.

Hi, I have a new FVS318G with latest FW, trying to configure FVS318 as VPN server, which to allow VPN client such as Android and Iphone be able to connect to FVS318 from the cloud and establish VPN tunnel.

The manual is so confusing and not helpful (Chapter 5 - http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/products/FVS318G/Documentation/RM/FVS318G_RM_27Aug10.pdf), Netgear si using the term so unusual, it calls VPN Gateway and VPN client. Don't know why don't they call VPN server and VPN client.

Anyway I did call Netgear Tech-supp but not much help. According to the Tech, there is not require the username and password for client to connect to Netgear VPN gateway. I am totally lost. I understand that FVS318 does not support PPTP and L2TP so no luck for Windows, but Android and Iphone have support to IPSec VPN.

Very appreciate if someone can shed the light on how to config FVS318 VPN, with username and password (for 2-3 different users username /password credential), VPN policy and Firewall polices if needed for VPN to work.

Thank you very much.

A:FVS318G-VPN - Android and Iphone VPN client

As in the other thread on the older version of this router, there is no provision to add in user level authentication on top of the standard IPSEC tunnel negotiation.

I have never set up an IPSEC connection on either Andriod of iOS. But the standard information to configure any IPSEC device is to set the parameters for IKE phase 1 negotiation (Diffie-Helmen Group and pre-shared key) and phase 2 (DES, 3DES, or AES). Most of the time, there is some sort of smart phone client installed on the phone to work with the VPN server. In this case, Netgear does not have one.

Hi I have the above 3 devices, when plugged into ANY of my USB ports front or the ones in the back, do NOT work.

Yesterday my iPhone 3GS (used as iPod) was plugged in and it worked. After I finished transferring the songs I wanted, to my PC, I plugged in iPod 4 to my PC using the same cable and the same USB port..... Nothing! Moving the USB cable to other ports again nothing. I uninstalled the USB drivers from Dev Manager and restarted my PC. Then it seemed to recognize the devices, only to go off and on, never keeping a steady connection. My Android Motorola Droid Razr HD LTE, isn't being recognized either.

I have tried differing ports, different cables. I tried the same devices on my Laptop. Yes they work just fine. I have also tried a USB Flash drive in the same ports, nothing. Seems the only ones that are working are my Mouse, Keyboard and Printer all the other USB ports - seem to either Dead or having the weekend off! This has been going on for months like this.

Any ideas as to what's happening with my PC???

A:Solved: iPhone 3GS, iPod 4 and Android USB headache!

Thanks everyone for your input

An update:

Just checked USB cable # 6 and it seems to work. Each of the others didn't. BTW, a friend of mine suggested that I also update the BIOS, seeing that I only had 3 USB Root HUbs in my Device Manager. Don't think that really fixed the problem, I do now have 4 Root Hubs now though + an updated BIOS.

Thanks Guys for ya help..

I've had an Android for almost 2 years, and although I really love it I'm considering getting an iPhone when my contract ends (I have an iPod touch and just really starting liking some of the apps and user experience)

The only issue for me is I'm a heavy Google user: gmail, google calendar, google contacts, etc.

I love how right now I can add a contact or calendar event on my phone, and it immediately syncs to my Google account (or vice-versa syncs to my phone).

I did a bit of research so far on how this would work on an iPhone, and it seems there are apps but that you still need iTunes? Is that true? Or is there an app that will mimic the functionality I get on my Android?

I do plan to jailbreak it, if that helps any.

I need to transfer 2 game apps from my old iPhone 6 to my new LG K20 plus Android to retain my progress on both games. They're both related, in order to earn points on the 1st game .. I downloaded the 2nd game through the 1st game app.
I also have a laptop running Windows 7 and a 3rd phone which is an android also, in case they will help with the transfer. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Transfer iPhone game apps to Android phone

I think iPhone and Andriods have different OS architectures. Thus transferring the app from iPhone would not run on the Andriod.

If the games are online games, your game state might be saved online, and there might be no need to transfer. Just download the Andriod version and sign in. See if progress is the same.

I'm having trouble finding huawei e3572 pocket wifi on my wifi connections list. Others who are also using win8 have the same issue, but those using win7 found the network automatically and could connect. Cable connection to the same router is working. Is this a general connection issue for win 8 and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

A:Connecting to Huawei E5372 pocket wifi

It would not matter what version of windows you are using. As long as the Hotspot is transmitting a SSID, using a Wireless band that you can connect to (g or n), then you should not have any issues.

I would personally talk to Huawei about this issue, and see if there is a solution with their product.

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

A:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hello! Recently I've been having wi-fi problems on my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 model, so it can only connect to 2.4 ghz wifi. Not sure if that's important. This is happens even if no one is home, so I know it's not caused by another user.

The thing is my iphone 5s wifi works perfectly. I initially suspected it was a recent java update I did, so I did a system restore and the internet seemed to be fine for a day after that..now it's really slow again and it's been slow these past few days.

They are pretty random intervals of internet being incredibly slow..then it would work again for a couple seconds...then become slow again.

Sorry if I sound like a complete novice (because I am one) but the problem basically presents itself.
I have a Dell Inspiron with Windows Vista (don't ask me why) which is connected to the internet via an ethernet port (because I live in a college dorm).
So I tried to convert this into a wifi for my Samsung phone and tablet androids by making it into an adhoc connection, but they didnt register it. After much Google-ing I realised that androids don't support ad-hoc connections.
I even tried installing Connectify. But once again it created an ad-hoc connection as my laptop is Vista, which is incompatible.

I also read all this stuff about rooting your phone etc. which basically scared the hell out of me because I don't want to damage my devices and I'm afraid I might just, if I mess it up. They work absolutely fine otherwise.

So basically my question is, is there ANY way (an app, a software; no configuration required please) in which I can connect an android device to an Ethernet internet connection via Vista?

Thanks in advance. Especially to those who can explain in easy language.

Hey everyone

I'm desperately trying to connect my iPhone and iPad to the wifi at work. I'm allowed to do this (as is everyone), although I appear to be having issues with both. I select the wifi network, enter the password and I just have a small spinning circle right beside the name of the wifi network, as if it's trying to connect but nothing happens.

The weirdest thing is that my iPhone was connected to the network about two weeks ago, but I restored my phone since then and now it's having issues. Actually, it was having issues before I restored the phone. The iPad is brand new as well and it has the same problem. Is it an issue with the OS update?

I can connect to my home wifi just fine, though, which makes me think that it's an issue with the router. The strange part about it is that all of the laptops here can connect to the wifi.

The folks over at Live Gooroo have come up with a way of diagnosing and repairing most problems that plague your PC today. While that in itself would be noteworthy, the part that?s really interesting is that they diagnose and repair your PC via an app on a connected Android device.

Soooo.... it's an app you DL on your phone that places a windows executable in your sd card which you can then run from your PC when you connect your phone to your PC which then installs/runs the antimalware program...

Good morning friends, this question might fall under networking or mobile devices, but I think it's more a PC question. My goal is to forge a setup where I am able to conveniently stream media from my home media PC to my Android smartphone (Galaxy 3S). I am currently able to stream video to my phone while I'm at home on my Wi-Fi connection using the "Nearby Devices" option in the phone that appears to engage DLNA. When I do this, I get the option to stream from Windows Media Player's streaming system. My question then is how do I access my home PC information while mobile-browsing? I've got 4G service (big deal....) and would like the ability to access my home content while on the go. From my limited understanding of this goal, I see the option of using a VPN or something of that nature to create a secure connection through the computer's firewall so I can access the media server; is this going to work? Would this essentially be considered a "remote desktop" scenario? Asked another way: is a remote desktop connection a VPN?I'm looking for some suggestions on how to pull this off. If you have suggestions, like "use this VPN and open these ports and blah blah blah", I'd need some how-to because I've never tried to do this. I know a person can buy some programs that say they will take care of doing this, but how hard can it be? It's just a client-server relationship between the phone and the PC, right? Ope... Read more

You would install the Orb Caster software on your PC, add the media files to the Orb libraries, and then you can stream them from any internet-connected PC. They have two different Android Apps, a free one and a paid one ($9.95). I am not sure what the differences are between the two versions. It's probably at least worth taking a look at the free version to see if it fulfills your requirements.

Hello everyone!

I have a question: is it possible to "synchronize" Windows 8 / 8.1 (but also possibly Windows 7) with an Android smartphone?

Let me explain: I would like that if I set a reminder with your smartphone, I'll be back even when I log on to Windows, a bit 'as is the case with iOS + OSX.
I know that you can not synchronize your Google Calendar with Windows 8, if not connecting to the google account to hotmail, but there is another way that you know?

It would be nice to also sync the photos you snap with your cell phone with the gallery of Windows 8, using Google Drive, but I guess now I ask a bit 'too much, however, a synchronization in Apple style is that possible?

I have no problem to "do everything by hand," but I was wondering if there is a faster way to do the whole thing ....

Thank you in advance !!

1) Security is not essential for anything - you can run Windows fine without any AV or security but you just need to be extremely careful.
2) Android Devices can get infected pretty easily thanks to the Google Play store letting in malicious applications - IOS doesn't have this issue.
3) If you are infected on your Android device then download stuff like:

- MalwareBytes
- Emsisoft or Kaspersky AV
They can be found within the Google Play Store!

I have a Samsung Note 4 running Android version 6.0.1 (which I believe is the latest). I am having trouble getting this device to connect to Wifi hotspots (i.e. free Wifi at coffee shops, the library, etc.). Here is the problem: I am able to get a "temporary" connection that lasts for about 30-60 seconds. However, most of these networks require the user to "authorize" the connection by going to a subsequent pop-up webpage and accepting the terms and conditions. With the temporary Wifi connection, sometimes it seems that my phone won't connect to the Internet to take me to this "auth page". Other times, I think I have an Internet connection, but I still can't get to the "auth page". I can get the IP address of the router I'm trying to connect to from the Wifi profile when I'm temporarily connected, but can't do anything with this information. I tried using another browser (Firefox) besides Google, and still no luck. So after the temporary connection times out, I am kicked-off the network. I searched various other Android discussion forums and no one seems to have the fix for this. This problem appears to go back a few years as several other uses have complained about this issue on other devices and earlier Android versions. Funny too, is that I just started having this issue about 1 month ago. Prior to that, I had no problems getting to the authorization page for Wifi hotspots. I also have no problems connecting ... My iphone when plugged into my computer is not recognized by Windowns 7 or itunes. It charges the battery while plugged in, but not showing up on the computer at all. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and no dice.

I looked in the device manager for the apple mobile device manager/driver or mobile device manager and I don't see it anywhere, like it doesn't exist.

Any ideas of how to fix this issue? Is this a hardware issue?

I have a problem regarding syncing my files from PC to iTunes and vice versa.
Itunes have been installed and updated to the latest version, but when iPhone is connected, phone charges but it doesn't install it's driver.
As it is said in Apple support to install manually, the problem is, Windows is not detecting device in Device Manager in USB or Other devices, also mentioned in the support article.

Also tried on my old laptop, still the same problem.

I have an Acer Aspire that shows my home network and at full strength, but won't connect. It will however connect to other wifi, as well as my iPhone hotspot. Other devises in the house will also connect to the router, so the problem doesn't seem to be there. I was told that my settings are probably off and that I needed to create a new home ip address. Tried doing the ipconfig/release and then renew, but that doesn't work if I can't connect to that IP address. How can I get it to recognize the IP address?

Hey there..

Got a dilemma.. Been trying to connect to wireless network connection..

I've opened up control panel, then network connections and see that "wireless network connection" is not connected, firewalled?? But when i open it up I'm active displays all green for signal strength but as soon as I go to connect a window pops up saying: windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again..

I do that and still pops up with the same statement..

But if I plug my iPhone in through the USB port I can get Internet..

Can you please help..

A:iPhone 4Gs wont connect to my computers Wifi..

Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

I received a new router from my ISP a couple of months ago. I have just changed the network name and system password to something more memorable through my laptop. Although my iphone. and ipad both recognise the new network name, neither will now connect to the network. I tried inputting the new password manually but this did not solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Someone gave me an iPhone 3G that has been reset (totally erased) back to its new-out-of-the-box configuration. All I get on the screen is that it needs a SIM card and that I can make an emergency call. Absolutely nothing else is accessible.

What can I do, short of signing up with AT&T, to make this phone usable for WiFi and iTunes?

So I'm having trouble getting on my home wireless internet using my iPhone.

My router is in the basement, and whenever I'm on the third floor, my laptop gets around 2 bars, but my iPhone can't pick up the signal.

So is there any way that I can use my laptop as a second router to extend my wifi to my iPhone? I've tried third party programs like Virtual Router Manager, Connectify, Maryfi, but my iPhone (4S model) picks up the signal for like 20 seconds, and then the wifi just drops for 10 minutes, then picks it up again for like 20 seconds, then drops for like 10 minutes again, and on...)

Is there any way that windows 7 can do it natively? or are there any other solutions out there? thanks!

Wireless Repeaters/Extenders would help.

If the Router has external Antenna, you may replace them with High Gain Antenna and they are quite reasonable. The higher the dBI's the better signal you'll get. I use them at my home and it works great.

I am a new iPhone user. I can get my iPhone to pick up the Wi Fi signal from my PC(Windows XP SP2) and Thomson (o2) router with netgear Wi Fi adaptor, but it drops the Wi Fi signal and goes on to the slower GPS signal almost as soon as I start using it on the Wi Fi connection. I see what appears to be a similar problem was posted in May '09 but the I could not understand the reply and do not think it aswers my problem.

I'd appreciate any advice that can be offered.

I have searched Google, this forum and others but I can't seem to find a yes or no on this topic.

I have an iPhone 3Gs, I can use it as a tethered modem fine and the speeds are pretty good (on a 3G network). At home I have 3G and Wifi ( wifi through my ISP). I can connect my phone and use it OR use wifi but I can't use both together.

I seem to recall in XP you could do modem doubling (correct me if that's not the correct terminology).

Does anyone know if Windows 7 can support this and how I might configure it?

OR possibly a 3rd party software.
Thanks for the help!
