Preferred Solution: An error has occured

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi everyone,
sometimes i get this error message that says "An error occured inside a plug-in contained on this page.".... when i get this error i click ok.. then another pops up and after i click ok about 5 times i have to restart my computer.

one of the sites that this happens to me with ishttp://www.gnronline.com/ when i click on the merchandise link at that site. i think the problem may have to do with quicktime because usually i see a quicktime box above the error messages. can anyone help please?

A:Error message: An error occured inside a plug-in contained on this page.

Hiya

I don't have Quicktime installed on this pc, and I didn't see the error that you're getting. Do you have Quicktime installed?

Also, in any other sites, does the error come up with the QT box?

If not, lets see a log, just to be sure:

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Ive tried a whole bunch of different things to solve this error -
an error occured during DirectPlay Voice Setup. the error code is 0x8015017

Ive tried the DPVsetup.exe fix

RESOLUTION
This problem generally occurs only the first time that you run the test. If this problem continues to occur after the first attempt, follow these steps:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.
2. On the Voice tab, under Voice Playback, click Advanced.
3. On the Performance tab, move the Hardware Acceleration slider at least one position to the right.

Ive installed 2 different files..

And still the tick remains on Mute against the microphone?? I can hear sound through the mike but cannot activate it?? Can anyone help?

Hi,

After months of trying different things I have gave up and come here for help. The problem arrises when trying to install AVG 2012. The error that is displayed during installation is;

Having looked around, people say this is a windows update error. I have followed various links back to microsoft support and ran fixes which have been unsuccessful.

Is there anything that can be done without formatting this laptop?

I am getting a disk read error occurred. Press ctrl alt del to restart.

I restarted my computer because my mouse was acting up:

The middle button was zooming in and out (web pages desktop etc) and the left click button was only selecting multiple files.

I had a little problem this morning when many of my files and folders on my desktop where renamed when I tried to make a new folder.

After trying a system restore that failed I ran a chkdsk.

What is going on and what should I do?

A:A disk read error occured error after restarting

Hi there dylan151,

Disk Read Error normally means the computer hard drive is going bad. The best thing to do right now is to scan your computer hard drive for errors. Go to a working computer, go to the manufacturing website of your computer hard drive and download the diagnostics utility. Put the program onto a bootable media(e.g. USB flash drive, CD, etc.etc.) and boot the computer to the diagnostics utility program. Follow the on-screen instructions and test the hard drive for errors.

If you have important data on that hard drive, take the hard drive out of the computer and use a Hard drive-to-USB adapter to connect your computer hard drive to a working computer. Transfer your files onto the working computer.

Hope everything works out well for you, please provide an update when you can, thank you.

I am using Win7 32-bit Premium. I'm trying to run a Batch file with several dll's, and I'm getting this error:

I have tried to google this, but I haven't gotten any helpful answers. Also, if I even try to register any of the Batch's DLLs manually, I get this error:

For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term.

Hi, I have a huge problem with my laptop...

One hour ago, i got a bluescreen about something not working and that I should restart the PC. I did so, and got this error:

Windows has encounted a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugged a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

from what i've been able to gleen from the web it's basicly your hard drive is either had it or needs the master boot record rewritten.

a link to guide from iseeuu forum member on how to redo your mbr should it require it.
MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record

if you don't have a cd you may be able to press f8 after bios post and select 'repair computer' will be at the top if it's enabled but it is down to the manufacter to add it or not.

if your hdd has sacked it you could utilising another machine download a hdd tool from the manufacter website burn it to a disc as bootable and boot from disc at post, it will tell you if something is wrong.

if neither of these helps or isn't relevent let me know i'll think of something

Hi, here is my problem, hope you will be able to help me with it.

Recently when my computer boots, chkdsk starts running automatically. Thats ok. It does step 1 0f 3, great, does 2 of 3, however when it is doing step 3 of 3 its freezes at some percent over 50% and gives the following error:

"An Unspecified error has occured"

NOw everytime i reeboot my computer chkdsk runs and the same error occurs. I need chksdsk to complete its check because i dont want chkdsk to run at the beggining of every reboot (it takes to long)

Also because of chkdsk running on reboot, i cannot defrag my computer as chkdsk has exclusives rights to my hard drive at the moment

Can someone help me finish the disk check or some how disable chkdsk from loading on reboot.

Thank YOU

not preferred by windows,if you can't run it in "safe" try scandisk as it's the default.,

Hey guys,

Everything has been fine with my 3 and a half year old ADVENT PC, and I've been successful in upgrading parts such as DVD Drives, adding extra RAM and installing my new graphics card.

However, in the past few days, when I boot up my PC, it stops at what I believe the DOS screen (part with BOOT FROM CD etc.) and will say A Disk Read Error Occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart. This happens 2/3 of the times I turn on the PC.

Also, if I do press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and the PC restart, it is normally successful, and will boot up Windows perfectly. Just this morning, it gave me the error, and with 2 Ctrl+Alt+Delete restarts, it's working perfectly, hence I can type this.

I do however worry about the time when I'm unable to get it to start, hence I need to post here.

Unfortunately I cannot be specific about hard drive model or anything, as I just don't know, but if this is necessary, could someone please tell me how to find out!

Appreciate the help,

Didn't you format? (even half done format, means the OS is gone)

You need the Windows startup disc to remove the partition and re-install Windows (obviously you didn't need to save any data)

Just use a Windows CD

So I know this can be one of many problems, but I tried to start up the HTPC yesterday, and it would not awake from sleep. When I reset it, it had the message of "disk error read occurred". When I check the BIOS, it recognizes the SATA hard drive as 500gb, and everything seems great, but I can't even boot up from the Vista CD, I get the same message.

However, if I disconnect the hard drive, I am able to boot up the Vista CD, but of course, now I have no hard drive to work with.

I am planning on installing a floppy drive today to update the BIOS, and if that does not work, I will pop in a spare hard drive to run some updates on the BIOS to see if that would work.
Am I heading in the right direction thinking it is either the BIOS update or a bad hard drive?

The weird thing is that everything worked great the night before, but I had recorded two large HD episodes for a total of 4 hours. I wonder if the BIOS was not updated to handle the increase in GB capacity from the shows. I only say this because I saw some threads about going over 127gb making your Motherboard unable to boot from the HD.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated
Thanks,

Hiya. I have been using Windows 7 7100 for about a month or so now. I was using my computer like usual, nothing out of the ordinary, when it started running very slowly. I rebooted the machine, and got this message:

DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK THEN PRESS ENTER.

I did that, and got this:

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
Status: Oxc00000e9

Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred. "

After that, I went on to run startup repair. I fixed it, went on to using my computer until the same thing happened again. I did the same process I did above, but the power went out while it was repairing, and the computer shut off. When I started it up again, I got:

A Disk Read Error Has Occurred.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

I can't get past this point. I would really love to save the data I have on there. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

A:A Disk Read Error Has Occured

Hate to say it but your drive may be failing. Sounds pretty classic, especially with it slowing down.

Is is your system drive with your OS installation?

If you are constantly getting this error and cannot boot in to Windows, see if the drive actually is still showing up in your BIOS.
Have you tried seating the drive in another SATA/IDE port in case the port/controller is failing?

My suggestion if this all fails is to remove it and throw it in a another PC if you have one as a slave drive and boot and see if you can pull the data off. I would then run a checkdisk /r on it.

If yoo do not have a second PC, I would recommend getting a Knoppix live disk and booting from it and then you can explore the drive and pull the data off you need and save to either a USB device or use the network support to transfer the files to another PC.

Sounds to me like your hard drive is failing.

If you can get the system to boot, backup your personal data while you can.
Then replace the drive.

How old is the system?
Any chance it is still in warranty?

Hello all I joined this forum hoping to get some clarity on this ^^

I just bought a new computer (I think you can see the specs in my profile) and I wanted to test GTA IV pretty badly. So I decided to buy it off Steam. Well it is not really working since nothing just happens when I click "Login" at the Social Club program.

I read somewhere that I needed to install Games for Windows Live, well this does not work either for some reason. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I get the error that is in the topic-name. Tried several versions with no luck, tried turning off some background applications that might interfere with no luck either(why would Skype or Pidgin/Bittorrent interfere anyway?)

I looked this up in the event viewer.

A:An error occured while installing XlifeRedist.msi

Fixed the issue, by re-installing Windows 7 and then after the drivers first installing C++ Runtime Redist 2010 and then just installing GTA IV with the GFWL etc. All worked. Skipped all .NET Framework related updates though.

Oh well

Hello all, I am having a laptop which mostly 1 year but having some blue screen problem these few weeks.

Sometimes it was PFN corrupt, sometimes memory management and so on.

I did memtest for 2 times and 100% passed.

Anyway I hope someone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

A:Random BSOD occured with different error

Hi,

You need to run MemTest86+ for a minimum of 8 passes. Do that, then report back on the results.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

I am working on a laptop for my brother, Compaq evo 610c. It has windows xp professional on it. after the bios screen, an error pops up,
A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
I can access the drive and all the files in a linux live distro, and also in recovery console. I have tried to chkdsk /r but it did not fix the problem. It did say it had errors, whether or not they were fixed, I don't know. I have also run fixboot. I ran a hard drive check from the bios as well. I see nothing pointing to a faulty hard drive, but just some windows file corrupted. I am trying to avoid re-installing windows due to the numerous programs that are installed. I'm leery to try fixmbr because I don't want to lose the contents of the hard drive. If i haven't provided enough information let me know.

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I've been trying to rebuild my friend's PC for ages now and every time I get past the initial part of setup (boot from CD, create partition, copy files, reboot) I get this error message.

I've done everything I can think off:

Low level format
Restart install
chkdsk
chkdsk /mbr
fixmbr from Windows recovery console
fixboot from Windows recovery console
Update BIOS

I still get the same error message when I replace the hard drive with a new one.

And I've read about a billion articles about this but none of them have the same solution.

Help please, at my whits end... ready to format and start over!

Starting Windows XP, it recognises the onboard Gigabyte VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter.

Following the prompts to install the driver, I get the following message:
"An Error Occured During The Installation Of The Device
The system cannot find the specified file."

(Yes, I have specified the folder where the drivers are located.)

The machine DID have a severe virus/spyware problem on it and was so badly infected, I had to run it as a slave drive on another machine to clean the crap off it. (not my machine, it's a customers)

The machine DID have TrendMicro Security on it, but obviously didn't stop the WinXPAntiVirus getting in in the first place.

The problem started after I removed Trend.

I've used RegCure, CC-Cleaner, MalwareBytes Malware, SuperAntiSpyware, Kaspersky, HijackThis, ComboFix, WinSockFix (did I leave anything out lol?).

I can't see any obvious spyware or viruses still residing on the drive.

I've used the obvious fixes including:
- netsh winsock reset
- set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" to show any hidden devices
- RegEdit'ed the keys and set permissions to Full Access
- Deleted the keys in Safe-Mode
- Replaced drivers.cab in the i386 folder with a fresh copy from the XP CD
- Unstalled 'Networking' from Windows Components and Re-Installed
- Disabled the on-board ethernet, installed a basic RealTek PCI card
- Downloaded latest drivers and manually... Read more

Ok, ive had nothing but problems with this new comp i built. I finally got it together, and its been working for weeks, no problems. Then suddenly the other day i went to restart it, as its restarting it says "A Disk Read Error Occured: im confused, turn it off, and turn it back on to see if itll work. So then i took it apart checked the wires to see if they were loose, still same thing. So i then tried to Do a system recovey/restore, i set it up so it reads the cd rom first, and i put my Win XP cd in there. Well it goes to a black screen, and the cd rom makes sounds like its tryign to load up, but instead it just sits at a black screen goign no where. Ive tried several times, and still no change. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem, or knows how to fix this problem. If you have or do, please respond to this message Asap or e-mail me at [email protected] thanks.

Okay, so I was on my computer and it all of a sudden freezes up, I tryed pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete and nothing happened. So I reach down and hit the reset button on my computer. It turns off and when it tries to boot back up it says "A disk read error occurred; Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
of course I do this and it gives me the same message. I'm assuming this means there is a harddrive error.

I've tried booting from the disk and going into repair my computer after windows files load but my operating system does not show up on the list.

please help me! if it's of any use i have a Seagate baracooda 400gig 72000 rpm harddrive.

Thanks for any contributions!!

I would try clearing the CMOS. Some times when you have a hard shut down, it corrupts the bios setup menu and it needs to be reset:

Clearing The CMOS

Clearing RTC (Real Time Clock) RAM:

Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.

Remove the onboard motherboard battery.

Move the Jumper Cap from pins 1 & 2 (default) to pins 2 & 3. Keep the cap on pins 2 & 3 for ten seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1 & 2.

Reinstall the Battery.

Plug in the power cord and turn on the computer.

Hold down the DEL key and enter the bios setup menu to re-enter data.
Notes: Some motherboards use different key combinations to enter the bios setup menu.

There are also some motherboards that you can simply push a button to achieve the same as moving the jumper from pins 1 & 2 to pins 2 & 3 and then moving the jumper back.
