How to remove back cover of Tecra S1 PT831A to check cable and power?

Q: How to remove back cover of Tecra S1 PT831A to check cable and power?

Hi,

I need to "check cables and power", as a result of the Seatools for Dos test and on start up "Media failure, check cables PXE-E61" message. I also get a message from the CHKDSK using the XP Pro CD, saying after 26% that "The volumn appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems".

Do I remove all B6 screws or what else - to remove the rear cover to "check the cables"?

The start up defaults to the Safe Mode screen, then to BSOD no matter which choice is taken, the BSOD is too short a time to read the message and their is no option in Safe Mode choices to turn off "Restart on failure".

I have removed and reinserted the HDD and RAM with no change to issue.

Hope this makes sense and someone can give advice.

Regards

Wagga

Preferred Solution: How to remove back cover of Tecra S1 PT831A to check cable and power?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to remove back cover of Tecra S1 PT831A to check cable and power?

Hello

Every notebook has in BIOS the list of all bootable devices. If none of them can be used the last one, LAN port, will be checked and then you will see this PXE-E61 message.
So the problem can be your HDD.

Start with HDD check. Enter BIOS and set it to default settings. Restart notebook and check if HDD is recognized and listed properly in BIOS settings. If yes there is no problem with connectors.

I recommend you to obtain new HDD for testing purposes. Put new HDD and try to install OS using original Toshiba recovery disc.
Please post some feedback.

I'm under the impression, to get the front cover off, you need to remove the "back" or "rear" panel first(.i.e. not the one you can remove with a Torx  15 Screwdriver...The other panel.) That way, once removed, you can loosen the3 tabs on each side of the front panel, to remove it. To have a look at the rear of my computer, although it's not my computer, it looks exactly the same. He shows the rear of the case, around 50 sec. into the video...Are those some type of screws? YouTube Video Thanks in advance, Chef_D

Hi, Did you know that is a work for Authorized Service Provider parts ? If you wish, for RAM, please try: 1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 27).5. Remove the optical drive (see Optical drive on page 28).6. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 31). as mentioned on page #38 of the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04696907.pdf   DIY will void warranty. Good luck.

I am just trying to install some RAM in my computer. I read the User Guide. It told me how to remove the screws and the back cover. I removed the screws, but the back cover won't come off. Also, I could not find any screws after the optical drive was removed, so maybe there still are two screws there.

Hi

I have a Tecra 9100 and I got it cheap and hoping to get it running for my son to do his homework on but its got a problem.

Firstly it came with no hard drive (on order) secondly when I switch it on I get +?media test failure check cable?+ then it switches off.
I?ve disabled boot from LAN and set Bios to default and tried booting from CD drive which does start to install ok (I know it won?t get far because I?ve no HDD)

But it just switches off completely sometimes at the beginning, sometimes half way.

Can any one shed any light on the subject.

thanks rob

A:Tecra 9100: Media Test failure - check cable then switches off

Maybe its overheating? Check for dust in the heatsink. You can blow the dust out using a Can of compressed air.

Also test the memory. You can get memtest from www.memtest.org and put it onto a bootable floppy disk or CD.

I have a new HP15-ba053nr with a slow hard drive (5200 rpm SATA) and for the music work I'm doing I need a faster HD.  I've purchased an SSD SATA III hard drive, but there is no compartment on my notebook to open up to access the existing hard drive for replacement.  There are 9 screws, which I've removed, but I can't get the plastic back to separate so I can access the HD.  Can someone tell me if there are latches, sealant, or other things that are preventing this, or can you suggest how (and/or where) I should try to separate the cover from the notebook?  Thanks much.

Hello,
I am having trouble with the prongs where the power cable is plugged in on the back of the tower. The computer does not come on unless I jiggle the prongs. The computer stays on just fine, then, so long as I don't turn it off. If I have to turn it off, then to get it on the next time, I have to jiggle the prongs again. I have already replaced the power cord, so I know it's not that. Have you ever heard of this happening? Is it possible to replace this part?
Thank you for your help! Maggie

A:plug for power cable on back of tower

That power cable goes into the power supply. If the cable is good, there is something wrong with the prongs of the power supply. Do you have a spare to swap to confirm?

Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 710 15 80V50000U laptop and I am trying to add memory. I have opened the back but there seems to be a metal box/cover around the ram that I can't figure out how to remove. There are several groups (of 2) clips around each side of the metal cover and also many holes on the top/sides. Do I remove it by prying the clips and/or removing screws? If there are screws, I don't see them, could they be inside those little holes (and if so which holes)?  Thank you, Jan

Can someone tell me how to replace the key cover onto a laptop computer please? It doesn't appear to be broken, but it is off. It has two silver colored things on the keyboard and the cover has a white plastic insert that corresponds with the silver parts on the keyboard.

A:Solved: My F key cover came off and I don't know how to put it back on

Pop the white part off of the bottom of the key and put it on those metal clips on the laptop, being careful not to bend the clips. If they break, you'll need a new keyboard.

After the clip is on there, line the key up on top of it and snap it on.

Should be pretty easy, just don't rush and push too hard.

Hi, I have a W540 ThinkPad. the hinges have broken and the tiny brass threaded inserts have pulled out that the hinges were screwed into. (That's why the hinges broke in the first place.) I tried super gluing the brass inserts back in but they fell out shortly after. Does anyone know if there are instructions on how to replace the LCD back, I've done some searching and didn't come up with anything? Or have any other easier ideas? I am wanting to stay away from using nuts and bolts straight through as I have seen other people do online. I want to keep the laptop looking professional. Hello, I have just received a T490s and am attempting to remove the back cover in order to replace the HDD.  I have seen the instruction videos online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHQcv-Nprac and the instruction manual, it just says to loosen the 5 screws and slide a pry tool to undo the clips in the back.  That went well, and the cover is very loose and comes up on the sides and back, but I still can't lift it - it seems held by something around the middle of the laptop.  Is there something else to unfasten?  Or just use more force?

Can we have a little more description or perhaps a picture? Page 18 here has an exploded diagram with the parts. Can you point out what is coming apart and how? Hello.

I have recently bought a Tecra 8100 laptop. Unfortunately there is no tv-out cable included.
According to the manual (ie. here: http://www.microdom.by/olddata/pdfspec/tecra_8100.pdf) the tv-out port provides a s-video (NTSC/PAL) signal via 3,5mm mini jack port.
The missing cable should be a RCA conversion cable.
Can anyone please tell me if there any specific requirements that such cable needs to meet? It's not hard to get an audio mini-jack to 2xRCA conversion cable, but this one obviously does not transmit the video signal.

Any clues?

I'm working on Win XP SP2, the graphic card installed is S3 Savage/MX.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

A:Tecra 8100 - missing tv-out cable

Hi mate,

I know that cable; it?s a rare accessoire of the Tecra 8100. The problem is, that the 3.5" mini-jack has it?s own format, so, it will only adapt from 1x 3,5" to 1x RCA.

Such cables can be either found on Ebay, or you contact an ASP (authorized service partner) which could surely send you such cable for some low money...

Here?s a link (if you need it) to find the nearest ASP in your country:

Hello there Lenovo Forums.I am writing here because I have a problem with my thinkpad screen and back cover. Just recently I've noticed that the back cover tends to unstick/come off/unglue/disconnect from the glass screen (I am not a native speaker and can't really find a good word to describe it). The whole thing happens mostly when opening the notebook. As the hinges are quite firm and opening the laptop is not as easy as in a macbook it requires some force to open it. I usually open the laptop just as one would open any other e.g. macbook pro. Grab the middle of the screenwith one hand, grab body with other hand and it opens. After noticing what is going on i started grabbing it from the sides to prevent further harm to the machine which is quite counter intuitive for me. Furthermore the camera lens started to get dusty because of the problem. Getting to the problem. Should I just get it repaired by Lenovo, as the device is under warranty, or it is considered user damage even though it seems that the screen unit is faulty. Here I provide photos of what is going on.After opening can see backlightThe glass sticks out of frameMy temporary fix is to get it back into place by pushing it back into frame, but after opening the laptop from the middle of the screen it goes back everytime. Thanks for replies,Jacob

I bought this laptop a year and a half ago and have been very careful with it, I've never dropped it, or taken it many places, but a few month ago I noticed the bottom right edge of the back over wasn't attached so I just popped it back in, it wasn't a big deal so I didn't worry about it.  Then yesterday it popped back off again but this time it was much bigger and I couldn't pop it back in no matter how hard I tried! I took it to staples to see if they could fix it and the guy there said it would take 2-3 weeks and 300$ I can't afford that, and I just bought this laptop last year!  Everything else about it still works fine, the screen isn't cracked, and the keys still work.

I need to install a modem in a 4 year old Dell OptiPlex. I have removed the cover from dozens of different PC's, but I have never seen one like this. All help appreciated. Thanks.

A:Remove cover???

Many different models of Optiplex's out there. Each probably has a different way of removing the cover. Dell has the instructions on there website for most of these if you just search their website.
