I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: how to back my pictures viewer to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Find a .jpg file to open and right-click on it. Then click on "Open With" and then "Choose Program".

Select Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and check the box "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

If you have other image file types like .png or .tif that you use go through the same procedure with them.

I noticed problems began after the first time in six years I tried to use the Windows Print and Fax Viewer Wizard to print pictures. The whole thing was so slow as to effectively cause the computer to freeze. Afterwards, I began to "leak" memory. Over time, as I browsed the Internet, Windows has somehow saved pictures from websites I have visited without me asking it to do so. It has also saved faxes attached to emails. I am unable to delete them.

I have gone to Delete Temporary Internet Files (I delete these daily and always have done). There is no box to check to delete "offline content" as I have read in various places. The upshot of this has been that Drive C is being loaded down with pictures saved without my consent or knowledge. I do not not know how to delete them and stop the problem. It apparently has to do with a DLL file. I tried to do what was suggested in the following link:

See this link http://en.allexperts.com/q/Windows-X...x-viewer-1.htm

This is what came up: DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in shimgvw.dll

From there I was once again totally lost. I know that this is behind my loss of memory, but I do not know how to reset or fix it. Help!

As some people told me I only needed to add memory to my computer, I added 512 MB today, and it did NOT solve the problem. With over 700 MB of RAM, I still show only 20% free space on Drive C. I have not added any new programs in ages, and I am sure it all has to do with ... Read more

my cousin got a few viruses on his XP Pro PC, I instal ZoneAlarms Internet security Suite and scan his PC a few times to get rid of all of the virus.. it did a pretty good job.. but now the only problem is, is that i think it messed whit some extension types and how they should be opened with what programs.. because when we try to open a .jpg files nothing happens and when you right click and choose open with "MS-Picture fax viewer" still nothing happens..

I've read & heard about viruses-Trojans that change yer registry so that when you try to open a certain file type it winds up re-executing the virus-Trojan again and re-installing it..

So im pretty sure that all the viruses-Trojans are gone off his PC, its just now that we need to figure out how to get his pictures working like they used to...
Is there any specific registry keys that i should look for to see if they have been altered or what not to not allow picture files to be opened with "MS-Picture fax viewer"

Thanks in advance for anyones help on this..

A:Virus Messed up Ability to open pictures with MS-Picture fax viewer

Try Spybot S&D. In many instances the program will fix registry issues caused by malicious programs. I am not very knowledgeable about windows registry so that is the best advice that i can give you regarding that. Another thing you can try to do is Re-associate the files with windows picture and fax viewer. This is how you do it.

Open Start menu
Click on My computer
When the My computer window opens
Click the tools button on the menu bar
then click folder options on the drop down menu
When the folder options window opens click the tab that says file Types
From there you can associate any image file you want to win pic & fax viewer.
Just scroll until you see the the image extention Such as; jpg, Gif,Png or Bmp
Clicking on the extention should show you what program opens the files.
you can change this by selecting the change button then selecting or searching for the program executable.

This method is a lot easier and safer, as you will not have to navigate the windows registry this utility does it for you.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi

I downloaded many large full sized picture files, I used the included default Microsoft Picture Viewer to view them and they filled the screen,
I saved them as JPEG, and the huge files are now Only small files /
thumbnails when I go to view them.

Is there a way to turn ON and mainly - Turn off a thumbnail View / Save

I want the big full file, not just a thumbnail / small picture
the downloads were Megabytes - the resulting saves are now tiny kb's

Are my original large files gone ?? - that was a lot of downloading

Thanks

Here`s an annoying problem i have after just doing a complete reformat, reinstallation on win xp professional. SP2 installed also.
when i try to click on any picture to launch with windows picture & fax viewer
it does absolutely nothing. Also there is no preview pic on the left bottom under details (though there is a preview of non pics i.e. movies, vids etc).
the windows picture & fax viewer is set as my default viewer for those file types. Also it does not launch if i right click & open with then choose windows picture & fax viewer.

OK i here you say "use a third party viewer" no big deal.Yes i can do & actually do have now but i do miss those preview details & apart from that IT`S ANNOYING MY HEAD IN!

I'd like to know if there is a way to turn off the auto zoom on scroll feature of Windows Picture Viewer?

eg. When i view a picture at its actual size (by pressing the view at actual size button) when its at its proper size if i scroll the mouse wheel then it zooms in or out of the picture, but i just want to scroll down the picture not zoom in or out.

So is there a way i can make it so that when im viewing a picture at it's actual size i can use the mouse wheel to scroll up and down it without zooming?

If it isn't possible to do this can someone please tell me a picture viewer that will.

Thanks alot.

Hi,

I must have messed up some setting or another!

I have had XP for several months now (I finally moved beyond 98SE), and have used the "final" paid Eudora version for years for downloading and managing my e-mail.

I have never had a problem opening MS Word documents in Eudora, after going through the usual security warning messages, but, now, all of a sudden, when I click to open a Word document, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer comes up.

This viewer is great for images, but can't display Word documents. How do I retreat to where I was a few days ago? I don't remember changing anything, but, at my advanced age, one never knows. I can still open the Word document via other means, but don't understand why the Viewer comes up.

Also, perhaps a related problem, when I try to print an image via the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer print command, my computer locks up. I have to go to contol-alt-delete to exit Eudora. I can print the image via other means, but the "Viewer" print command doesn't like me.

As always, thanks for any help!

I'm trying to get Windows Picture and fax viewer to open a jpg file inside of firefox and it just won't work. When I click the URL link that opens the jpg file, the jpg picture just opens in a new tab. I want it to open inside of firefox via Windows Picture and fax viewer only. I thought the reason why it was doing this is because I have the add-on "Tab Mix Plus" installed but I was wrong. I tried disabling it but it still didn't remedy the problem. One important piece of information that I do know though is that if I right-click on the link that opens the picture file (jpg, png, etc.) and then click on properties, a small window pops up that displays the URL of the link and below that it shows the file will open in a new tab. This is the problem. So, with that said, it seems like I have found the problem kinda, I think, but I just don't know how to fix it. I've recently experienced a problem with reading my CF card on my computer. I have always had my Sandisk Imagemate CF reader plugged into the USB on my computer and whenever I placed my CF card into it, the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer would automatically pop up with a preview of all available pictures thumbnailed. It would give the option of rotating, saving whichever pics you'd like to whatever file you wished, etc. Now when I place the CF card in, I get nothing. It does come up as a new "removable disk" on My computer but I have to physically go to it and open it up and the pics have all these long weird file names that need to be changed as well. The short of it is, it's much more difficult to read pics now, the process is longer and harder to accomplish to move pics to certain files, I've got a half dozen new "removeable disks" on my computer (seems to add them at random) and I don't believe I changed anything to make this happen, just started one day when I placed the CF card in the reader. Along with getting back to the way it was - with auto reading, is it possible to rid the My Computer of all these unneccesary "removable disks"? Help!

When you view 1 picture with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, the viewer will also show you pix you've viewed in the past. For example, if you viewed picture 1 from a previous day or week and you're viewing picture 2 today, MS will combine all pictures viewed.

However, it is not available on the Windows 2000 side. Does anyone know how to get the viewer? Is it possible to copy the viewer to the Windows 2000 box, and if so, what file to copy?

If it is not possible to copy the file or otherwise obtain the viewer, what software would you recommend that works pretty much the same as Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

And if at all possible, It would be best if the program is just a runnable .exe with no installation needed.

It can also perform basic editing and lots more than M$'s software.

Windows picture and fax viewer has been replaced with Windows Photo Gallery in W7

No, i'm afraid I don't think it is possible. I've looked into doing it before and could never find anything.

hi all, this may seem an odd thing to ask, but does anyone know where the windows picture and fax viewer is located, and if there is any easy way to change the background collour ? ( instead of boaring white ).

A:windows picture and fax viewer

I 'm not sure about changing the background color but you can access the picture and fax viewer as quoted here from Help and Support Center within xp

Using Windows Picture and Fax ViewerUsing Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, you can view, rotate, and perform basic tasks with image documents, including fax documents, without opening an image editing program. You can transfer pictures to your computer from a digital camera or scanner, and you can view images as thumbnails. You can also view your pictures in a slideshow and annotate your fax documents.

If you store your pictures in the My Pictures folder, the images are automatically displayed, either as thumbnails or as images on a filmstrip. You can try out different views of your images in My Pictures by clicking the various commands on the View menu. Experiment to get the look you want.

Open My Pictures, then double-click an image to open it in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Notes

To open My Pictures, click Start, and then click My Pictures.
For information about using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, click Help in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
