I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently installed Win7 and sp1 on new computer. Now I can't get the computer to wakeup after using sleep mode. I have to press the power button on the computer for a few second till it shuts down; then restart. The restart shows windows resume rather than "bad shutdown".

A:Computer can't wakeup from sleep mode

It's hibernating when it shows Resuming Windows.

Try turning off Hibernate in Control Panel>Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Change Advanced Power Options>Sleep settings.

Then set sleep to 1 minute to see if it sleeps correctly. If so, add back Hibernate at 2 minutes to see if it sequences correctly. If so, set these at your preferred timeouts.

If problems persist, check your Performance log to see what is hanging at time of hibernation/sleep: troubleshooting steps

If running through the troubleshooting steps given above don't help, use the tool which the Pro's use to trace sleep/hibernate hangs: Trace Windows 7 boot-shutdown-hibernate-standby-resume issues - MSFN Forums

The cause of this, is that you have unsaved data when resuming from sleep, and windows stops other people from shutting down the computer, that is a protection mechanism.

Whenever I wake my computer up from sleep, the power ring shows that is turned on, but the screen remains blank. I have to force restart it get it back to the login screen. It's really frustrating. Sometimes, when I try to put it to sleep, it just stays on and the screen goes blank. Any help?

Thanks

BTW: I have already installed the BIOS drivers and it has made no difference.

A:Screen black after sleep wakeup

Try using System Restore to set it back to a point before this problem started happening - IMO that's the easiest and 2nd most successful way of fixing this problem.

Also, update your video, chipset, and storage drivers - just in case.

This is the most successful way of fixing KSOD (Black Screen of Death) issues:
At work we don't mess with these issues - as it can take weeks to solve them (and no one wants to pay me by the hour to troubleshoot their computer for weeks!). We slave the hard drive to another system (to backup the data), then we do a diagnostic (to make sure there's no overt hardware issues), then we wipe the hard drive and clean install Windows.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help.

I'm using a laptop with Windows7 to pump video out to my LG 50-inch TV via HDMI cable (typically AVI files via the VLC player).

I have been doing this for 2 years now with the exact same hardware and it has worked wonderfully.

The problem I am having is new: right in the middle of a video the TV will go blank (IE standby/sleep mode) and then the laptop will follow suit. I then have to go hit a button on the laptop to wake it up and the video will resume. I then have to hit the "input" button on the TV to get it to resume. Then it works fine again for sometimes hours or sometimes only minutes.

In other words my TV is suddenly and inexplicably putting my laptop to sleep through the HDMI cable. This happens randomly and daily and never used to happen at all.

If I disconnect the HDMI cable the problem does not occur on the laptop. I have tried changing the HDMI cable and the HDMI port at the back of the TV to no avail. I have disabled standby on both the TV and the laptop to no avail.

Is there perhaps a windows setting that can override HDMI input from the TV? I am at a bit of a loss...

Thanks for any help. Thaigrr

Hello!

I have a problem with the hybrid sleep mode.
Whenever I try to put my notebook in sleep mode everything works ok, also normally waking up the system.
But when I disconnect the power cord and restart the system, Windows tries to resume its state but suddenly stops with a black screen and a blinking cursor.
I have absolutely no problems with normal sleep and normal hibernate (shutdown -h).

For a short time hybrid sleep worked only when I put the system to sleep with the notebook FN keys, but not through the Win start menu.
Now it doesn't work at all. Maybe this was also just a coincidence.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance and best regards!

Hello.

I have recently purchased a new machine that is running Windows 8.

Clicking the middle mouse button opens the Start page.
I would like to change this so that the middle mouse button does other, more useful things.

I primarily need to be able to use the middle mouse button in a program call GIMP, where holding the middle mouse button down enables you to move around the image.

I use this for my occupation so it is very important to me to work out how I can change the way the button behaves.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Hello,

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

Hi Guys,

Thanks.

Hello SimFox, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can set Windows 7 to show the log on screen when the computer resumes from wakeup, and after a screen saver (step 9). She can also switch users from the log on screen as well if she wanted to.

Hope this helps,

In the advanced power options, I've made sure sleep happens after 5 minutes, and "Adaptive Brightness" is off. I'm not sure what else to try, and Google has returned no help.

Friend of mine has got problem with his desktop (XP SP2) , when he starts the PC it boots normally till it reaches where it shows windows XP logo then the screen gets blank (i.e he can not see the login name for users).

What he used to do: is press the sleep button on the wireless keyboard, then after that press the hardware switch on/off button (not the reset button) on the tower of the hard box.

After pressing switch on/off button, he gets directly (pay attention to this) to the login screen where he can see the usernames for all users.

He has to do this procedure every time he would like to boot the desktop

Hi

I have the same problem as an another member previously submitted on http://forums.techguy.org/windows-8/1118808-windows-8-1-giant-text.html

After booting I get TEST MODE coming up in the middle of my primary screen after about 3 hours, the only way to remove it is to reboot and then it comes back again a few hours later.

I have tried the details suggested in the above url on Techguy.org which is:

Run CMD As Administrator.
Run the command: bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
Then run the command: bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF
Restart your computer!

I had this before and some how managed to get it to stop, how I do not know but recently I had to change my MAC Address and it has started up again.

This is a brand new Machine running Windows 8.1

Can any one suggest anything else. Whilst I can live with it, it is rather a pain having to reboot 4 times a day.

thanks
Anton

Hi. I pressed the power button once on my laptop to put it in sleep mode. Is this a safe thing to do?

A:Power button sleep mode question

Hi -
Do you mean it was an accident, or deliberate ??
I have never used Sleep Mode on any computer that I have owned -
The safest thing I always think, is to turn the computer Off once you are actually finished with it, or just let it go to screen saver if I am away for an hour -

Your computer / laptop can always wake from sleep mode in its storage bag if there is a scan scheduled for the Antivirus or similar.
If it is in a storage bag, the temperatures can get too high due to lack of ventilation and create problems.

My desktop is switched off at the wall every night, or if I am not using it for the day. The same for my laptop, powered off and left off unless it is wanted.

Since it only takes 30 to 60 seconds to power up I see no need for Sleep or Hibernation mode at any time -

I hope this covers your question -

A:What happens when I press the sleep or standby mode button?

All programs cease to function, the computer enters a suspended state similar to "off" but with a faster recovery time.

Be aware that many applications simply do not like being suspended and may behave unreliably when resumed.

Its usually more reliable on laptops, which have been designed with this feature in mind.

t will wake up, even if I have not moved the keyboard and mouse.

The way it is supposed to work is that it is not supposed to wake up until I tell it to, correct? (usually with the keyboard and mouse)

I found this with a google search

Quote:

1. Open a command prompt and run the command

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed

The command will list all the devices which can wake up computer.

I've done this and the only results I get are

1. HID Keyboard Device
2. HID Compliant mouse (001)

So, it's not my USB wireless network adapter.

Also, I changed windows update from Install updates automatically, to Download updates but let me choose whether to install them. On the previous setting, it was set to download and install them every day at 3AM, but I don't think this is it, because this is not the only time it will wake up without me touching the keyboard or mouse.

I also have Emsisoft Anti-Malware which is set to download and install updates every hour, which I want it to. Maybe I should ask them if there's a way it can do it without waking the computer up.

Maybe, but a better (and probably quicker) way would be to uninstall Emisoft (theres probably a removal tool) and temporarily install Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

If the problem continues, you know its not Emisoft thats causing it.

Otherwise, you might be wanting to have a look at scheduled tasks.

Every time I fold the screen back, it will enter tablet mode as per usual, but then once the screen actually touches the bottom of the laptop, completely folded back, it turns off and enters tablet mode. It's almost as if the sensor thinks the screen is folded shut completely and the laptop enters sleep mode.  Any ideas on what may ber happeneing? Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,
is it possible to wake up Windows 8.1 by just one key from the keyboard, eg. just wakeup when Enter key is pressed?
All other keys should be ignored.

A:Wakeup from sleep by just one key?

A low level keyboard hook may do it. But if you want to avoid waking up when someone moves the mouse you'll need to hook that too. I would ask on the AutoHotkey forums.

AutoHotkey Community - share scripts and functions, get answers to your programming questions

Index page ? AHKScript

The danger with these low level hooks is, if buggy, the input to your system will be messed up. As in it may not get any keyboard input. But you can ask around on the AHK forums.

When I wake my desktop up from sleep I get Error 813: You have attempted to establish a second broadband connection while a previous broadband connection is already established using the same device or port. Please disconnect the earlier connection and then re-establish the connection.

Problem is there is no connection established, this has been going on for about a week. I am using an old style wired DSL modem that requires a dial-up to get connected. Previously waking up from sleep it would not connect to the internet until I opened my IE browser, now it attempts to connect instantly and I am getting the error message. In "connections" it is checked to "dial whenever a network connection is not present" just as it has always been, it was set for an automatic connection. I thought it was probably a Windows update problem but I did a system restore to well before the problem started and it was still present. I can cancel the error message and connect manually, the connection is fine but it is starting to get pretty annoying as the computer is woken up from sleep several times a day. I tried manually disconnecting the connection before putting the computer to sleep but that didn't change anything. A Google search turns up nothing.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I'm not really sure what is causing this, but I don't think it's from hardware. I've seen that Windows 7 has some problems they haven't fixed with waking up after sleep which most of my Blue screens are from. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi MechBot9971.

From teh latest 3 BSODs, it appears to be a multi-fold issue, covering a storage and display. Moreover, out of these three, two are storage related, caused by Marvell.

So you need to uninstall Marvell, Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller.

But here is the complication. You have got some complications , both from the part of hardware and software. Aside of Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller, you have Generic Marvell 61xx RAID Controller too. That means that you will not be able to uninstall Marvell till you disable the RAID options in BIOS. That is desired, as you are not using any RAID array actually, and RAID is always troublesome.

Well, that will lead to even more problem, because an OS can boot in the storage controller with which it will installed only. Disabling RAID will not allow you to boot into the OS at all.

As I have said that it is a bad installation that you have got, there are some more odd stuff. Like two real time protection programs.
Start Menu\Programs\AVG
Start Menu\Programs\ESET
Deadly plan. Neither of them will work in practice.

The best for you would be to go for a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Before doing it, Disable RAID.

After the installation, dont use Marvell. Dont install Vircual CloneDrive back; and use one Antivirus only.

Then if the display related issue continues, we will pay attention to that; but till the Marvell issue will be there, no troubleshooting will go to an end.

Hello,

Everytime I wake the PC from sleep mode the main log in screen will appear but within a matter of maybe 30 seconds I get the blue screen of death. I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 x64 three times now but still this problem occurs. I'm ignorant when it comes to using WinDbg but the basic problem I have gathered is that this error is caused by csrss.exe. I have researched this file and some say it is a Windows system file and others say it is a virus. I seriously doubt it is a virus because it exists after a fresh install and only when drivers are downloaded and installed from mfg's websites.

I have attached three minidump files if that helps, thank you.

A:BSOD After Sleep Wakeup

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been traveling.

The analysis of the memory dumps doesn't show a whole lot, but we can draw some inferences from them.
This is the termination of a critical object for some reason - and csrss.exe could be that critical object.
Since you've freshly installed Win7, it's not very likely that it's a virus (but the possibility remains depending on how you installed Windows).

There is one older driver that's mentioned in the dump file (ahcix64s.sys Mon Apr 16 06:20:13 2007). So, I'd suggest updating it to the latest version that's available for Windows 7. I suspect that this is a chipset driver from an AMD chipset - so I'd start by looking at the AMD website for it.

Beyond that, I'd have to wonder if you have any incompatible hardware/software installed? Have you run the Windows Upgrade Advisor? It's free here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...e-advisor.aspx

Very slow (5 minutes +) wake-up from sleep mode ever since upgrading O/S from Windows 7 to 10.  Also slow boot. One suggested fix is to upgrade the drivers for the graphics cards (AMD Radeon HD 6700M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000) but I haven't found new drivers for these cards at the AMD site. Would be very grateful for a working fix for this problem. Thank you all who respond to my request. Yves Danneels

Hi there. Trying to figure out a problem. Running Win 8 Pro, 64bit.
I recently installed an upgrade of my BIOS. At first it took several tries to boot into Windows. That is now solved. What remains is the fact that when I wakeup the system from sleep, it only displays the pre-login screen (greenish, with the tower). It freezes right there. Thinking this might be a display driver issue, I updated it (Radeon HD 6480G). That didn't fix the problem. On some forum I read about a SAM file. My question is: How does it find it when I reboot, but not when the system goes from sleep to wake up? At any rate, how could that be fixed? Also, I don't know how to revert back to a former version of my BIOS. Have no idea where to find that info. My laptop has an Insyde board, and it went to version F.48, what ever that means. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

A:Cannot wakeup from sleep; reboots

My possible fix probably won't sound reasonable (and it might not be). But, try turning fast startup off.

Hi,
few months ago i had issues with wakeup and BSOD.
After that i've changed platform to new one (with few old parts).
Few days ago I had one more BSOD too (after wakeup).
No bsods occurs till today.

All dumps are in the attachement.

Platform have old HDDs, graphic card, PSU and music card.
Rest of the parts are new (motherboard, CPU, memory, case).

I've found and fixed SSD bad sectors by wiping all SSD and reinstalling OS.
I have also disabled hibernation and the size of page file is 1024mb.
Maybe it is related to the wakeup and BSODs - don't know?

Please help me resolve this issue with BSODs on wakeup - i'm going to go crazy :-)

On platform before I had same issues which tells me that MAYBE the reason could be the same as before on old platform
I don't know if it's OS config or drivers or some device.

Kind regards

A:BSOD after wakeup from sleep

I can remove current GPU and music card - for diagnostics and device exclusions.
I have internal mobo sound card an internal GPU in the CPU which could be used temporarily.

Let me know if i should do that.

If my PC goes into sleep mode when its at the login screen it hangs when I log in as a user - at the "welcome" screen. The round thing keeps going round. I need to do a hard reboot to restart. It also hangs when I wake it up out of Hibernate.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome

first are you using autohide taskbar?

Second, look in event viewer. type eventvwr in search. go to windows log>application tab. Look for errors (they have red in left hand column) that contain app hang, app crash, etc. when you find them (there is a lot of data) use the snipping tool to make a screen shot, and upload it to us using the attachment icon (shaped like a paperclip) in the reply form. see pics

For no apparent reason, PC does no longer wakes up from sleep.  Before making this request, I have already done the following: A) checked and confirmed that my Video card driver is the latest available and the device is working properlyB) Rebooted from cold start several timesC) Checked to make sure the keyboard is enabled to wake the computerD) Checked the HP Support Assistant to verify I have the latest BIOS and lack no other updatesE) Double Checked Control Panel/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings Computer is to never sleep After the time selected in Edit Plan Settings for Turn Off the Display expires, the monitor goes dark, and will no amount of mouse or keyboard action has any effect.  The system must be powered down with the PC power button and rebooted.  I have not installed any apps in many months.  Two days ago, we did have a power interruption that required that I reboot the router, but that was the only unusual event.  This sleep problem evidenced itself AFTER the power interruption, but I cannot specifically link it to that as a potential cause. What should I try next in troubleshooting?
