https pages will load, http pages will not load

Q: https pages will load, http pages will not load

The only pages Internet Explorer 8 will load are those that start with https. Anything that starts with http gives a message that says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Any suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

This has been going on for weeks and Iv tried sooo many things. All the settings, deleting, reinstalling, system restore, shutting down security, bypassing router, checking for updates, some have downloaded the SSL certificate and ''reinstalled it''...I don't know how to do that but it didn't work for them anyway. Iv been trying to get tech ''support'' from the website, my isp etc. but to no avail. We can't load up a game anymore or visit any of their httpS pages. It's not just me, other users are having the exact same problem. so far as I can tell we all have satellite Internet but different providers, not sure if everyone with satellite has the same problem or not. I have wildblue thru dishnetwork. up until recently it worked fine.

For example on the website:

https://toontown.go.com/join

Returns an error for me no matter what browser I use.

http://toontown.go.com/join

Remove the S and the page loads but I can't thru to login because that's thru a secure page.

For the game launcher I can give you an example of what some users have done to ''get around'' the problem. When you try to launch the game it uses this:

https://toontown.go.com/launcher/login?n=MYUSERNAME&p=MYPASSWORD

This will not work, results in error. Now the ''get around'' launcher some people made uses the following url. Just taking off the S in https.

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

hello all

i have started noticing "hijacked pages,"

and that (so far, only when using "chrome," which is outdated - NOT by choice but because i am stuck with windows vista and GOOGLE will not longer support it...),

sometimes chrome will "hang" when attempting to perform operations such as "clear browsing data,

and then if i attempt to close chrome, it will make it so that system processes(?) such as my toolbar, ctrl+alt+del/task mgr, and restart will not work, forcing me to need to manually power off my computer,

and now as of today, most pages are not loading ("err_connection_failed" in chrome, but ALSO IN FIREFOX a lot of pictures in pages are not loading),

so i fear i have malware...

okay, here is the sysinfo readout:

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

When I start up my computer I can navigate normally for exactly 10 minutes.
After that point in time I can only navigate to https or ftp sites, but any http URL returns "page cannot be displayed".
I've already tried netsh winsock reset catalog, netsh int ip reset reset.log, uninstalled & reinstalled WLAN and Network adapters.
Same result with IE and Firefox.
Created new local user on PC, same result.
Searched registry for "timeout", "600", "600000" (seconds and milliseconds) - no joy.

When connecting from the office, I get no internet connection at all when using auto detect or auto proxy script (works fine for others) but when using a proxy for the LAN on port 8080, problem does not manifest itself, ie. I can navigate to http pages at all times.

Current workaround from home - connecting via VPN tunnel to corporate network, then use the proxy to go out to Internet (in this scenario both, auto detect and autoproxy script, work just fine).

So I guess something is blocking port 80 on my laptop 10 minutes after reboot, but WHAT?
Any hint would be highly appreciated.

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

A:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

Do you have more then 1 computer connected to your modem/router? If so, does this happen on them? If not, can you connect a separate one (ex: friend's laptop) to test?

Normally when you get errors like this it's best to rule out a problem at the modem/router and provider before going crazy over trying to fix a problem (that may not exist) on your PC(s).

Also just a couple of other questions:

Who is your internet provider (ISP)?
What connection type do they use (Cable/DSL/Fiber/Fixed Wireless/Mobile Wireless)?
What is the make and model of your router and modem?

I've just started having this problem and its killing me.

I have 2 computers. My server is running windows 2000 server, and the secondary computer is running xp Pro.

The internet was working fine on my secondary computer, and then one day, it just started becoming slow, and it would not load pages (images wouldn't fully load, some pages wouldn't load at all). If i type in a url in the address bar for IE it would load the page quickly (probably from cache), but then proceeding to click links would cause "Page not found" or "timed out" errors.

I know that i can reach these sites, i ping them and get normal responses. It seems that IE is just not displaying them properly or something. The internet on my server computer works perfectly fine.

I have 2 nic cards in the server computer, 1 recieving the cable modem, and one receiving a LAN cable from my Hub.

Anybody have any ideas? Like i said, it worked on my secondary cmputer before. Also, i hooked up another computer to my hub and the internet was working fine, and then i installed Service Pack 3 and it started crapping out like mentioned above.

This is driving me NUTS!! ahhh. please help.

Thanks

Try running a ping to the sites that have trouble loading to see what kind of connection times you are looking at. I would also run a tracert to those sites to see if there are any places dropping the connection.

Just started two-days-ago. Mozilla 1.5.0.7 and IE 6.0.2900. I did a system restore back for two weeks to no avail as "nothing changed."

Mozilla and IE, through Mozilla, either takes long to load or no load. If it does load does so without .gifs or some links. Some links are broken. Some will load the login page fine then freeze on the next page.

The perplexing part is that it affects only a few pages but not the whole site: my hompage, Nasdaq.com; ebay.com (after the login page), espn.com takes a while, 240 sec, to load then only partially load.

Network fine, signal strength fine, I've killed Symantec, no difference. Switched to Windows firewall, no difference. Killed Adblock, no diff. Ran Spyware Doc, nothing; NAV scan, nothing.

I'm lost. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance.

My line has recently been upgraded to 8.1meg from 2.2 and i think the modem hasnt quite got the hang of it being this quick yet. It seems to work for a while but my line keeps changing. At first it ran at 7.6 and the problems with pages started so i reinstalled the drivers from the disk and it shot straight upto 8.1. Its been a pain for the past few days with some sits(even my homepage of Virgin) so i reinstalled it again and all the pages now come up.

A:Doesn't Always Connect And Pages Don't Always Load Or Load Right

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, this forum is very busy right now.

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

There are twenty or thirty sites I visit regularly.

Recently I've been having some problems. Some sites I can visit like normal, but some sites I can't. I get "cannot find server" errors.

I cannot visit 9/10 websites on the internet because of this.

I have run Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, HouseCall, HijackThis, and the virus scanner on pcpitstop.com. I've run some of those in Safe Mode as well.

I cannot ping a website with cmd, but if someone else gives me the ip for a site url I can't visit, and i put the ip in the address bar, it will work like normal.

I've tried using IE and FireFox. I'm currently running FireFox (on XP) because I'm concerned about the security of IE during this problem.

I've done a system restore to before the problem but it didn't help.

There are three computers in my house, two of them are affected, one isn't. So I don't think this is an ISP issue, but I could be mistaken.

Is anyone out there familiar with this problem?

Keep in mind that any links or such you provide me I will most likely not be able to follow, because the page likely won't load. If you suggest I download something please provide a direct link to the zip/exe file.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Guys!

So, I've run into a bit of a problem. For the past couple of days my Internet Connection seems to be acting strange.
Sometimes i can load pages almost instantly, for example google or wikipedia, and a minute later i have a loading time of above 30 seconds for the same page.
On the other Hand, when I start a large Download and it has to run for an hour or more, it wont abort, even when I can't connect to other Websites in the meantime.

The weird thing is that this happens on every Device in my Network. I've done a ping test in this little "downtime" and half the packages timed out.
Wireshark shows that somehow I keep sending out packages but for like 15 - 20 seconds I get no response at all.

I really don't know what to make of this and would appreciate some help^^
Thanks in Advance!

A few days ago I noticed that some of webpages weren't loading correctly. It was shortly after updating Java. Web pages that I visited like Yahoo, Adobe, and Facebook started to load plain text (no graphics of any sort). The Microsoft site wouldn't load at all until I read instructions somewhere on this forum about enabling secure sites. Most other sites loaded perfectly so I figured it had to be some sort of malware that was blocking me from certain sites. I ran a lot of scans using several anti-malware and anti-virus programs. I ended up finding about 3 trojans that were removed. That didn't solved my problem though. I got fed up and decided to reformat my computer hoping that whatever was wrong with it would get fixed, it didn't. Since I formatted my computer I tried updating Windows but I kept getting an error: "WindowsUpdate_8024402C". Wouldn't work in Normal mode even after I followed the instructions given to solve the error. Figured I'd give it a shot in Safe Mode with Networking, but it still doesn't work. Now I can't access the Microsoft website again. *sigh* I've tried pinging it but my requests keep getting timed out.

After reformatting I uninstalled all the bloatware, and reinstalled updated versions of Java, Adobe Flash Player, and Shockwave (thru majorgeeks as I couldn't download them directly from their sites). I've ran more scans but nothing comes up. I'm thinking maybe there's something wrong with my winsock2 but I'm not touching it O_o. I forgo... Read more

Hi everyone. I've got a very strange problem that just began happening out of no where. When browsing the net I can no longer go to websites such as www.zone.com, I can only check my e-mail when I'm lucky and the website decides to load without displaying "the page cannot be displayed" error message. More than half of the images on everyone webpage display as not loadable little X marks, even on this website. When attempting to open random websites after searching on google for example, more than 3/4 of the web pages I click on give me the "page cannot be displayed" msg instantly without even trying to load. This problem just began recently out of no where. Windows firewall has always been off and never had problems untill now. I run Aluria Security Center and have never had problems. I also have tried adding these sites to my trusted list and it does absolutely nothing. Hope you guys can give me a solution. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm having the same problem in both IE and in Firefox so I'm guessing it's a problem with the computer, not the browser. But I have no idea how to go about fixing it.

The title says it all! Basically, I've been using AdFender (which I believe was recommended by this site) and it was working great. However, it seems that certain sites (like google and youtube) will only load as an https now, even if I'm logged out of the account. AdFender doesn't work on https sites, so now I'm bombarded with commercials and banner ads on videos: It's absolutely terrible!

So, can anyone either:
1. Recommend an adblocker that works on https sites?
2. Tell me how to run sites that default to https as an http?

Thanks for your time!

ADDITIONAL INFO: I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 8.1 and have had this problem on both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Noticed 2 instances of msiexec.exe running in Task Manager.
Googled this and found that if genuine it is part of Windows installer
but can also be a virus.
Did a search and found MSIEXEC.EXE-2F8A8CAE.pf
Googled this and found it is probably Malware.
If so can you help me get rid of it please

For the past few weeks sometimes when I try to load a page with Firefox I just get a black screen with a white dot in the middle.  I've tried the same links with Explorer and I just get a white screen.  Sometimes I can get the page by using a different link or route but I'm now trying to use a cashback site for insurance so have to use their link; this is happening with several of the companies I'd like to use.

Can anyone advise please?

Thank you.

Can someone explain how to fix this. This seems to be the only site doing this at this time.

Hi everyone. This is my first post here! (well, actually I had a problem a long time ago and I used this website, but I forgot all my login info...)
I recently got a new laptop (sometime in the last 2 or 3 months) and about 2 or 3 weeks ago (could be MUCH less or MUCH more, I forget) I found out Google made a new web browser. I downloaded it. I really like it. I think this has NOTHING to do with causing the problem I have, but it just explains how I am on the Internet now.

Now, one day, I went on IE7, because I kind of switch around between Google Chrome and IE7. So, as I was saying, on IE7, Google, my homepage, loaded as usual. I typed something into the search bar (Google search bar) and the page started loading. It was loading for at least 3 minutes when I tried closing IE7. Nothing happened, and after a long time I pressed ctrl, alt, delete and quit it. When it finally quit I went back in and tried going to another website, like Youtube. It didn't open either. All it does is load for a long time and still show the Google homepage with the small loading bar in the bottom. If I minimize it and maximize it again, it turns into a white blank screen with nothing on it. It is very frustrating. No websites at all work. The next day after restarting I tried again. I tried many times until a Google search opened up. I clicked on a link there but it didn't work... Then that didn't work again when I tried to do it again.

So basically I can't use IE7, and as far as I know I can... Read more

Hello, welcome to the forums.Your problems looks at first glance to be a malware caused issue, locked desktops and the background sceen not being to be changed is usually a sign of the smitfraud\vundo range of malware.download malware bytes, install and update it and do a quick scan and we will see if there are nasties on your pc, if so this will probably be moved to the malware removal sectionhttp://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-...4-10804572.html

In Win 98, using either IE 6 or Netscape 4.7, web pages do not appear. Browser says "website found, waiting for reply". The waiting never ends. Connection with ISP is ok; email works, Usenet works, FTP works, but http does not.

Took the computer(HP Pavilion) to a shop. After keeping it a month, they said "We have several machines in with the same problem. We don't know what it is, and Microsoft Knowledge Base doesn't mention it. It must be a corrupt TCP/IP stack or corrupt Windows registry, and the only way to cure it is to format C:."

If it's a virus, it's one that a pretty recently updated Norton doesn't catch. I have Norton covering email, and the personal firewall is active. Did a full scan with negative results.

Before reformatting, I'd like a second opinion. Thanks.

Having a bit of a problem with loading webpages...some just won't load at all and haven't for a few days now.

Flickr, Yahoo, Hotmail, Download.com, DaFont etc etc...just won't load, am getting page cannot be displayed both in IE7 & Firefox.

I know the sites aren't down because I rang a friend who lives locally and asked her to check and they loaded fine for her.

Have scanned for viruses and spy/malware and found nothing but a couple of cookies which I deleted.

Have rebooted several times, reset my modem, lowered my security settings via Internet Options...and have googled and tried a few other things people have suggested on various forums such as unticking "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and checking the host file in "Windows > System32 > Drivers > etc" to make sure only "localhost" is there, which it is...but can't find anything that works....any ideas?

I'm on Vista Ultimate on the PC and it's a near brand new install (about a week ago) and I have an XP laptop networked to the PC

Thanks x

ETA- Am just in the process of doing a deep scan with a-squared and it's coming up with Email-Worm.Win32.Small.a
The scan hasn't finished yet, will update if anything else shows. Could this be causing my problem and if so how do I remove it? It didn't show up on a HJT scan, have attached my HJT log file.

Any help appreciated, Natalie. x

A:Web pages won't load, please help!

Hi Natalie. . .

I can't comment on the item picked up by A?, but would ask if you have an Internet Security suite installed like Norton, KIS, McAfee, etc... that has a personal 3rd party firewall.

Two things for right now - in addition to my above question -

Click on START | type Internet into the start search box | select IE7 (without add-ons). Try IE7. I don't think this will work considering Firefox did not, but try it anyway.

Now boot into SAFEMODE w/Networking - tap the F8 key repeatedly during boot-up. Try IE7 and Firefox there.

Certain web pages just stopped loading for me a couple of days ago. The ones I can think of are: microsoft.com, myspace.com, aol.com, gamefaqs.com, mcafee.com, mapquest.com. It's a bit annoying because my girlfriend loves myspace and I can't update my antivirus. I can't think of any changes that were made to the computer to cause it to start doing this.

I saw the sticky at the top of the forum about windows update 908531, so I uninstalled it as there were no instructions (unless they were in a link) about how to fix the problem. But, uninstalling that didn't fix the problem.

I have Windows XP Pro. I use Mozilla Firefox (though the pages won't load in IE either). If any additional information is needed, I'd be happy to provide it. Thanks a ton for any help.

Edit:
I've also updated and run SpyBot and it didn't find anything.

Several items you should do and check.
1) Go to IE\tools\Internet Options and delete Temp Internet Files
and make sure the delete all offline content switch is enabled.
2) Go to IE\tools\Internet Options\security tab and make sure your system security is set to default.
3) Lastly while still in the security section make sure you do not have Lycos.com set as a restricted site under restricted sites\settings.

Note: If you have a firewall installed on the upstairs computer make sure the site is not resrticted.

Keep us posted on you progress.

Hi there, here is my issue.
I can't connect to certain web pages from my pc. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit. Weird thing is forexample I was be able to connect one page like 10 days ago but suddenly it stopped. I tried all kind of browsers by the way and same result. I don't have any proxy selected at my internet settings.
I first thought it was about my router but I used my fathers Apple today which is using the same router and I had no issues to connect those certain web pages.
I also turned off my firewall, checked all blocked sites from my av program. My hosts file is clean. I did that flush dns thing aswell but still no luck.

If anyone has some other suggestions I would be very grateful.

Hey,

I've recently been having a few problems with my Internet Explorer (7) on my home pc. It refuses to load a page - no matter what I try. It always just comes up "Internet Explorer cannot display webpage". If I try to type in a different web address, it redirects automatically to "hhtp:///". (my home page also randomly changed)

It can't be a connection problem, as MSN and Apple Safari both work on the same computer. Only thing is videos don't load, and downloads don't start up at all with Safari.

I'm using Windows Vista, along with Norton 360. I've been trying to uninstall the 360 to see if there was any conflict between windows and Norton, but it refuses to do it. I tried downloading the uninstall thing from the norton website, but it won't begin the download for some reason. I would try just disabling it, but the Norton window itself won't even open so uninstalling it was the only other thing I could think of doing.

Also tried a system restore which didn't work.

Please help!!

Can anyone help with this?

Hi Guys,

First time caller so forgive me if i'm in the wrong area and/or I don't phrase the problem correctly.

Over the past 2/3 weeks my computer has started to (sometimes) not load pages I have clicked on. It's as if the internet connection has failed (but it hasn't) I'm still downloading and all the correct lights are flashing on the modem. Usually after a couple of clicks I'm back.

I have to leave the website I am on, and then try 2/3 times to get the homepage to load. I have a broadband connection and am running XP with Firefox. Usually after a couple of clicks I'm back.

I don't know a lot about the inside of my computer.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Hi
For the past three days I cannot load web pages. My internet connection is good and what is has always been (3-5 bar strength). I can get to Google, but it takes up to five mins to load a page and many times they are incomplete.

Just to get this page to open took my 30 mins of trial and error. I do not know what happened.

I have done the following:
Upgraded to Firefox 4.0
Spybot Search & Destroy scan...np issues found
Bitdefender deep scan...6 issues found all fixed
CCCleaner
Defrag
About:Config tweaks to make pages load quicker in Firefox

The only thing I can think of that might have affected my PC in the last three days was insert a USB stick from work. I needed files printed at work and used my boss' PC. I inserted my USB and tried to print but had problem. I took the USB home and the files were corrupted. I tried to open one of them which did not work and deleted them all.

I have taken my laptop to a friend's house and tried his connection (5 bars) and things worked normally. I took laptop home, and all worked for about 15 mins well, then same problem, pages started to load slow.

This has baffled me. My laptop is a Gateway one yr old and has worked perfectly until this issue. All other PC function operate normally.

PLEASE don't redirect this thread if it is in the incorrect category...I fear I will only get one shot at opening this page at home to read responses.

THANK you for the help.
