CTRL + C and CTRL + V freezes comp for a few seconds. [W7 Home Edition

Q: CTRL + C and CTRL + V freezes comp for a few seconds. [W7 Home Edition

Hello. I encountered a weird problem.

I recently bough Acer Aspire 5734Z with Windows 7 Home Edition installed. When I type CTRL + C or CTRL + V my touchpad stops working for a few seconds. Then it get back to normal. And Except this the functions of ctrl + c and ctrl + v works.

This happens all the time, no matter how much I copy, I can copy nothing doing just the combination and my touch pad freezes.

When playing games as GTA Vice City I have problems using WASD movement at the same time as I adjust the screen(camera) with touch pad. Suddenly lot of combinations stop working, and I have to either stop walking around (WASD combinations) and use touchpad to adjust screen, then stop using touchpad and go back to using WASD.

I hope you understand. I am not very good at explaining things. And I really hope to find a solution to this.

When I did first-run of the laptop, the touchpad didnt have scrolling function working. So I went to acer.com, found my computer model, selected Windows 7 Home Edition and installed the newest touchpad driver 64bit. And it worked. Scrolling working. But freezing problems still occurs. And I think it might be some windows 7 anti multitasking function or something.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Yoga 2-11 Yesterday the CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and ALT-CTRL-DEL functions stopped working; strangely CTRL-V works fine. It's very difficult to get the @  and ? symbols to appear, but capital letters using the same Shift key are fine. Also, when I would type, several of the same letter would appear, and when pressing the space bar several spaces would appear. I fixed this issue by adjusting my keyboard settings by setting the repeat rating to the slowest setting. I've used device manager to uninstall the keyboard, also updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to fix things. Using Windows Key R and OSK to display the onscreen keyboard, and using my physical keyboard for input confirms that the Shift and CTRL keys work. One thing that I noticed: when I touch the CTRL key a round onscreen circle appears and gets smaller and disappears; this is also true for CTRL-X and CTRL-C, but when using CTRL-V the circle does not appear.

Sir
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 installed.

In Google search box, when I type Ctrl+Z( for undo), it does NOT work. Neither does Ctrl+Y( for redo). When I type Ctrl+backspace for deleting the preceding word, it works perfectly, but when I type Ctrl+Delete to delete the following word, it does NOT work at all. Kindly help me out of this problem.

In Notepad, Ctrl+Z( undo) works but Ctrl+Y(redo) does not. Neither does Ctrl+backspace(to delete the preceding word) but Ctrl+Delete(to delete the following word) works perfectly.

I don't know why some shortcut keys work and some don't. Please tell me how to make all these shortcut keys work in Google search box as well as in Notepad.

Yours sincerely

The XPS 15-9530 keyboard requires that you hold the Function key to do home/end (Function+Left is Home and Function+Right is End).  That works fine, but I have found that if Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End are a bit finicky.  Specifically, the key order I have to press to do a Ctrl+Home is Ctrl then Function then Left.  If I do Function then Ctrl then Left, it only sends a Home and not a Ctrl+Home.  Is there any way to work around this?  It's a bit annoying to have my Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End fail so often while I'm retraining myself.

Thread title pretty much sums it up: CTRL-A disabled, CTRL Key Works, A Key Works, Other CTRL-combos work. I use CTRL-V, CTRL-C, CTRL-Z, etc all the time.

CTRL-A has never worked for me, in any application. Instead of selecting all, CTRL-A pastes, the same as CTRL-V, only when you use CTRL-A, in addition to pasting, it also makes a system sound, kind of like a knock sound. Out of desperation to identify the sound I looked control panel sounds and listened to all of them, it's not there.

I've never really needed CTRL-A until now because I'm wanting to use a specific application that has no other way to select all except CTRL-A, so I'm now desperate...

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi all!
I need help to use macros properly. It is my first attempt at doing this, and I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

I have found this thread which resembles my problem, but I still do not understand what to do
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/595235-solved-need-help-macro-using.html

Basically, I have 2 Excel spreadsheets open.
One is List A, the other is List B (Master List).

I have worker codes in List A, and have to find them in the B list to assign them a code (1) in column M.

What I did was go in my first spreadsheet, and selected the first worker code. Then, I started recording my Macro from there.
Ctrl+C worker code
Ctrl+Tab to second spreadsheet
Ctrl+F to open find box
Ctrl+V to paste the worker code copied from before
Close the search box
Cursor now over Worker code, Move over to column M by pressing the RIGHT arrow 12 times (from A to M)
Type "1" and then Enter
Ctrl+Tab to come back to first spreadsheet
Down Arrow to move on to next worker code
STOP MACRO

However, the Macro looks like this :
Selection.Copy
ActiveWindow.ActivateNext
Cells.Find(What:="A4WL7CPA3BRX5", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
Range("M1204").Select
Application.CutCopyMode = False
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "1"
Range("M1205").Select
ActiveWindow.ActivateNext
Range("P3").Select

A:Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Macro recorder only record specific actions, not generic actions.
So you can't use it to repeat the steps for other cells.
You have to code it specifically in VBA.

As for your case you can have a lookup formula in column M of the Master list to do the check.

eg in cell M12 of List B, type
=COUNTIF('
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)

this goes to your List A first column to count the number of instances the value in cell A12 occurs.
Assuming there is no duplicate, the result is either 1 if found or 0 if not found.

If there are more than one instances in List A, the formula can be adapted to
=(COUNTIF('
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)>0)*1

*1 will ensure that the result which is True or False becomes 1 or 0.

Hello. I'm usually pretty proficient in handling typical squirreliness with my computer but this one's a tough one for me to wrap my mind around. Here's my computer specs:

nvidia 5200 vid card w/ 512MB RAM

Just recently I'd been gone to work and my girlfriend was at home on the computer. She usually goes on myspace, xanga, facebook a lot and generally doesn't stray far from those activities. I got home and she pointed out the computer was acting weird.

When I hit ctrl+alt+del, the screen just gets a light blue sheen over it until I click and then it's gone with no sign of the task manager. Also in firefox I cannot use the ctrl keys. The left ctrl key when pressed immediately makes the font size in the window larger and larger and after 2 or 3 presses opens a new tab in firefox. The right ctrl key yesterday was opening a new tab going to gmail and today is doing a variety of things including going back a page and copying text to pages. I can't use any ctrl key combinations in any software without it doing something strange. In Azureus it opens a file's statistics for example. I'm a key command junkie so this is a huge problem and I don't know if my computer's been compromised or what.

Hi... I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with a tricked out Firefox 3 with a bunch of extensions, and all of a sudden today I started notice that Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F, 2 keyboard shortcuts that I use ALL THE TIME, are no longer working in ANY APPLICATION. The F and Control keys are working fine separately and other common shortcuts such as Ctrl + C, V, A, O, and P are working just fine.

I've tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Notepad, Paint and Dreamweaver and Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F don't work in either one of those applications. The weird thing is without doing much of anything, it was working at some point today after I had noticed it WASN'T working, but now I rebooted for another reason and those 2 shortcuts are not working again.

By the way, I went into Vista's Ease of Access center (previously called Accessibility I believe), and everything is turned off.

And I also tried the control key to the right of my keyboard. None of it works.

Very annoying... Anyone got any ideas or know of any app that will help me find out what the problem is?

Thank you very much in advance, any help's appreciated

My remote desktop session does not appear to be sending the ctrl+alt+left (CAL) or ctrl+alt+right (CAR) combinations to the target machine.

Yesterday everything worked fine. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and could successfully RD to my laptop machine, which is running XP Pro SP2. CAL and CAR worked.

Today I installed SP1 on the Vista machine. Now my RD won't sent CAL or CAR.

I downloaded a simple keyboard tester application and installed it on both machines. Locally on the Vista machine, CAL and CAR are detected. Same thing locally on the XP machine. When I RD from Vista to XP and try the keyboard test the program shoes that it is receiving the CTRL+ALT combination but doesn't register when I hit the left or right arrow key at the same time. Interestingly, the up and down arrows *do* register.

I tried the RD connection from XP to Vista. Everything works normally. I tried an RD connection from another XP SP2 machine to my laptop. It works.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of key binding in Vista that takes the CAL and CAR combinations before RD can get them? Is RD in Vista 64 filtering them out for some reason?

Thanks
Kevan

I have to hit Ctrl-alt-del , choose task manager and then when Task Manager shows, the mouse and keyboard will work. I do not see any error messages in the Windows Event Application and System logs. I ran the W7 Memory Diagnostic Tool and it found no errors. There is nothing highlighted in Device Manager. I see the same problem ( only not as often) in Safe Mode with Networking. There is a wireless mouse and keyboard and the batteries are new. Any ideas what to check? Thanks, Brian

A:W7 freezes, , Ctrl-alt-del to unfreeze

Open Control Panel....right click on the mouse entry......uninstall it......and then reboot windows

If the mouse has its own proprietary drivers, eg Logitech etc....go to their website and look for the latest

What browser are you using?...if Firefox, check to see if any add ons have updated since this problem with the mouse started

The latest in my series of Lenovo misadventures: this wonderful laptop freezes and refuses to respond to anything, not even ctrl alt del.  The only way to recover is to hold down the power key and restart.  Started happening since yesterday. No, new software was installed, but the first time it happened, Windows updated when it rebooted.  Now on Windows 10 Home 10.0.14393 Build 14393.  There is no way to get any diagnostics, nothing.  This is my second Lenovo Z50-75 - the first was DOA due to multiple hardware issues, and Lenovo was completely uncooperative.  Any ideas for how I can get this laptop to do anything but waste my time and cost my company money?

Hi everyone!

Just the other day I started to be unable to access my IBM thinkpad (laptop) T60, because it freezes AFTER i press the security CTRL-ALT-DLT at login for Windows XP, the one you have to get through before typing in your password.

The keyboard works fine until that point, because i have an encryption password/username point to get through before startup, and everything is O.K. However, after I get to CTRL-ALT-DLT, the computer stops recognizing anything-- even the mouse stops moving. The only thing I can do at this point is to force quit (the mouse mysteriously is moveable when it starts shutting down again).

I have tried safemode, safemode with networking, etc etc, most of the options that I get on the F8 menu. Everything and anything that takes me back to the login screen with CTRL-ALT-DLT freezes no matter what.

I suspect malware or a virus (not too sure how to categorize them) is a partial cause of this, because "Antivirus Soft" has been popping up a lot recently, goes away with Spybot, then comes back again. So I definitely think my computer is infected.

I don't really have experience with computers, but I'm thinking now my only resort is the recovery XP disk? For some reason I have not been able to get my disk to work even though I set it up as boot CD first through BIOS. Maybe something else has gone wrong with my BIOS?? And, even after I get the disk to work, I'm not too sure where to go with it-- do I repair or wipe everyth... Read more

The Antivirus Soft is in the Win32/FakeAV Family and is nasty. Are you saying you can't even boot into the safe mode? If you can get to a System restore option, then restore to a point before the problem began. If you can boot in the safe mode let me know.
If you can't boot at all and you want to recover some files here's what I've done. Buy an external hard drive housing and remove your Thinkpad hard drive to install in the housing. Then plug the device into a USB port of another computer - you should be able to get all your files downloaded safely to another computer.

Once you've recovered your files, then put your hard drive back into the Thinkpad and reinstall the operating system. I would wipe everything clean for the fresh install, not a repair. Once done, transfer your saved files back via a flashdrive or other external hard drive. If you have a disk with your operating system just follow the prompts for a clean install.

Your laptop has a "recovery partition" which may be accessible by pressing f11 on boot - I'm not familiar with the IBM laptop. You should read this carefully.

BTW, hard drive housings for this purpose can be purchased for less than $20 - you'll need a 2.5" docking station. Look here.

My PC since a week has started freezing randomly one or twice a day. All the windows stay open, the mouse does not move,.
Even Ctrl+Alt+Delete does not work; CAPS Lock light does not get toggled
Sometimes it happens after just 10 mins of startup, sometimes after a few hours
It has always happened under normal usage, ie. no games/Photoshop/3ds Max running..
just Firefox running or sometimes even while no app running
Once it happened while I was scanning a picture, and the scanning head(the light-tube) of the scanner also froze midway.

danceb,

This post may end up moved if the moderators feel you have a malware infection. I recently repaired a computer that had registry issues. The keyboard and mouse would freeze when the keyboard was used. The problem ended up being in the registry. I am not sure whether I am aloud to instruct you on how to edit the registry, but I likely have a solution for your problem. I will let the moderators decide what route to take.

For the last few months I have noticed my desktop Dell computer getting slower and slower. It is now constantly slow and when I try to use it.
When I have a few internet tabs open I try jumping from one to another it is sooooo slow loading.

In the last week it now freezes altogether. The Ctrl Alt Del does not work sometimes to try and close the internet windows I have open and I have to revert to switching the PC power on/off button to clear it and reboot.

Would be grateful if I can some one help to see if I can resolve these issues.

After installing a new wireless linksys router to replace the old netgear, some computers in the small office did ok, 2-win7 and 3-vistas and 2-xps. One vista however, started freezing up with desktop only. Mouse will freeze and nothing will suffice but hard boot. Have run several different trouble shooting programs and nothing is picking it up. Have taken settings from the identical Vista bought together with this one, but it still does it. Sometimes it will do it right off the bat, and other times you can motivate around but when it is left idle, (grab a cup of coffee time) it freezes up entirely.

This is the third time this happened. I online, browsing along minding my business when I went to click on a link on my IE favorites and everything froze except the mouse cursor. I tried doing ctrl-alt-delete, then clicking on task manager (I figured I'd ex out programs one by one & see if that unfroze things) but the task manager never appeared & now all of the other options on that blue/yellow Vista screen are gone & all that's left is that blue/yellow screen with "Windows Vista Home Premium" at the bottom & I just can't get out of this screen. I had to manually restart, which I hate. I know there's a way to check the error log but I'm not sure how. I'm running 32 bit windows home. Can anyone help figure out why this happens seemingly so arbitrarily?
Thanks.

Hey there,

My laptop has become buggy - as the title of this post suggests, it is freezing up altogether at irregular intervals. Ctrl-Alt-Del becomes unavailable and a hard shutdown required to recover. Windows itself is perhaps crashing. Very little is showing in Event logs. (DCOM errors essentially and notes regarding the unexpected shutdowns).

I have a rather old (maybe 7 or 8 years?) Toshiba Portege laptop that runs Vista.  For the past month or so I've been experiencing random freezes.  The screen becomes completely unresponsive and I can't even put the laptop into sleep mode.  I have to hold the power button down, do a hard shutdown and start the laptop up again.  Sometimes when I do that I get an error message that the operating system couldn't be found.

The freezing often seems to happen when I'm loading a new page in my browser.  When I pull up task manager I also notice that CPU Usage jumps from the single digits to 100% for seemingly no reason...I'm not sure if that's normal or even related to my problem but am mentioning it just in case.  It usually seems to be Chrome or tskmgr that's causing the strain.  I've tried to be conscious of how many tabs I open in Chrome, but the high CPU usage and the sudden freezing happen even if I only have a couple open.  I've also tried switching from Chrome to Firefox, but that didn't help.

I've run virus scans (Malware Bytes, Kaspersky and some others) but they all came back clean.

The freezing happens quite regularly.  The laptop might be fine all day and then it will freeze several times in a row.  (A heat issue, maybe?*  The fan does run often, but it always has I think.)  I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on why it's happening and whether it's fixable.

Installed Win10 on my PC. Everything works perfect except this.

I use my notepad a lot and would really like to get this straightened out.

As of now: Ctrl + Home goes to the front of my current line. Ctrl + End goes the the end of my current line. It should take me to the top of the page or the end of the page. Page Up and Page Down work correctly. Ctrl + Home/End works correctly in every program except for notepad.

Any help?

After booting and waiting few seconds, the system does freeze and if I press Ctrl Alt Del and press Cancel, the system comes back to life.

After the freezing and after the Ctrl Alt Del – Cancel operation, the system come back to life, however the screen saver does not work and every Power Option that I establish, do not work. When I boot, if I leave the system without doing anything, then the screen saver do work as well as any Power Option I had configured.

Checked virus and malware many times and nothing came up.

Particularly I run Kindle for PC on Windows Home Premium 64, and it does freeze every time. Or come up with the problems listed below that do happen even after the Ctrl Alt Del / Cancel operation. Sometimes I am able to access the menu but it freezes at some point. If – sometimes – I am able to check for problems in the help menu, everything is green and ok. Sometimes I can access one bought books, but cannot highlight a text. Or change the size of the font. I can mark the text, but when I try to highlight, the pointing hand turns into a hyphen. Cannot, in any way, add a note or use the copy function. However I can always use the built dictionary without any problems. I might have found the answer and the problem seems to be the Microsoft Wireless Mouse 3500. I have a Vaio and a neighborhood has the same. We both use the same mouse. So we stopped using the sophisticated one and plugged a no brand mouse. The system does not hang any more on both computers and no longer freezes after startup. Hope it does help for others too.
