Whea Uncorrectable Error

Q: Whea Uncorrectable Error

I've been getting this error for a while, and my computer just restarts. I downloaded a program called BlueScreen View that finds the text dump of the error, which I've copied here:

From what I gather it's obviously an issue with my CPU. Is anyone able to discern exactly what the issue is from this? Or is there anything else I can provide to help?

I just grabbed the other most recent crash info. Every crash the program pulled up was either caused by what I posted above, or what I'm posting now:

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought this laptop in october 2016 and have been able to use it maybe 3 hours total. I am getting the whea uncorrectable error with a blue screen. It can happen 10 minutes after startup or immidiately and can also run in a continuous reboot cycle with this error occuring.  I have spent almost 15 hours with tech support over the phone and through remote acces with somewhere around 15-20 different techs. I was told it needed to be sent off to be repaired in which i incurred the shipping charge. They re-imaged the hard drive and returned it to me. the same problem happened almost immidiately. After more hours on the phone and countless troubleshooting attempts with HP techs I was informed once again that i needed to send it in for repair. Again i incurred the shipping charges. I got it back yesterday afternoon and after 10 minutes run time. Guess what? Same error same blue screen. This time they replaced the hard drive. I called tech and was rudley told it wasnt their fault and it was soley a software issue. My software warranty has been expired for about 2 weeks.(funny how they didnt check the software while still under warranty) The tech insisted i buy and extended warranty to which i refused as it should be repaired by them at no cost to me since Ive been unable to use it since new. This thing is a lemon. Today i again called tech support and after 2-3 more hours troubleshooting with 2 different techs Im no closer to it being fixed than i was before... Read more

I bought a notebook for my daughter in August 2014.  It is a "13z-a000 x360".  Model #G3S32AV.  It had Windows 8 on it but my daughter upgraded it to Windows 10 and then the trouble started.  It keeps restarting and giving the error message "WHEA Uncorrectable error".  Just restarts over and over.  I bought an recovery manager on USB and tried to reinstall the operatinig system but it only gets as far as "Copying files" before it restarts. Is it a hardware problem?  The mother board?   Sounds expensive.  Of course, it is out of warranty.  Should I send it in to get it fixed or just get a new computer.

A data read error occurs at the level 1 cache of the CPU, persistent in all the dumps.
This is an indication that your CPU is causing the problem.
Please make sure to update your BIOS.

Hello to all,
I just installed Windows 10 about a week ago and all updates are installed. Lately I've been getting a blue screen crash with "WHEA Uncorrectable Error".

What I'm seeing on Google as a possible common cause is low CPU voltage. I'm not really sure how to check that. Is there some diagnostic I could run and post here that might help with diagnosis?

I appreciate any help someone may be able to offer.

Hi,
I would really love an explanation of the bugreport of 21 october 2014.
There are 5 older reports in the zip, which can be disregarded.

Some explanation on the how/why/when this happens,
I did have an overclock on my pc, it went unstable, i removed the overclock, and now it gets unstable on stock settings....
I have found the probable cause of this, being the VRM's on my motherboard (they get extremely hot).
I found this out, because occt linpack (the stressoftware made my pc reboot in 1-2 minutes) is very VRM heavy.
After putting a casefan on my VRM's it took about 18 minutes to BSOD (not reboot).

I tried to figure it out in the windows debugger, but my knowledge only gets me so far.....

If i forgot anything please do ask!

Thanks in advance for the time and effort taken

A:Bsod, whea uncorrectable error 124

The latest memory dump is a STOP 0x124. These are errors that are collected by the CPU and reported to Windows.
As such, the WinDbg results aren't easily understood, and they rarely point to an exact cause.
Then, if you're only dealing with one of them, there's really no significant chance of getting useful info out of it.

Here's the one from your latest memory dump:

Okay so I just got this PC in yesterday and I'm already having issues. At first it was giving me the BSOD for my wireless receiver which apparently just didn't have drivers for 8 yet. But now if I go to watch videos or try to play a game the video gets choppy then BSOD, then half the time it will blue screen again right after restarting. Some times it will give me a WHEA_uncorrectable_error and sometimes it will restart before any error is displayed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So this started happening about a week ago its happens at random times some times an hour + or some time 30min when I'm watching a mp4 file or on YouTube, running a game doesn't speed up this process, I thought it was my soundcard so I removed it and I all so checked my ram which came up clear. I did receive a message about voltage drop but that has stopped.

any help would be great as this surpasses mu knowledge and all so I'm low on funds.

---------
Replaced HDD with SSD and did a clean W10 install. SSD faster by a multiple.

Upgraded to 8GB RAM (max possible on the E5510). Ran a couple of memory tests and all OK.

Now customizing to suit my work style. Unfamiliar with 10, so far have had to use Google to figure out how to do the most basic things that are second nature through Win 7 and probably 8.1. Everything seems to be either renamed or moved or both in Win 10. Oh well, I'm getting there.

However occasionally the computer throws up a screen with "WHEA Uncorrectable Error" message and reboots. After it reboots, it runs OK for an indeterminate period then repeats

Have updated drivers (which were all up to date), and run several diagostic tests including Windows and Iolo. No related errors reported.

Has anyone run into this after upgrading to 10? Have attempted to attach dump files below. If not yet there, will be working on it

A bit ago I was using my HP Envy laptop as normal, just watching a video on Youtube when it crashed and I got a blue screen with the error "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR". My boyfriend suggested that maybe it was a driver that needed updated, so I was going through the list of drivers in the "Device Manager" and I was nearly done with the list when I got the "WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR" yet again. My laptop is still pretty new, I got it in March so I have no idea why I would be getting BSODs.  Anyone have any idea what's wrong? I'm afraid to use my laptop for anything right now because of this.

Yes, my problem was solved. I had to send it to HP to be repaired and they had to replace the motherboard. I haven't had that issue since.

This issue has been persisting for nearly a year now. I get the feeling that a piece of hardware is failing, as I've wiped and reinstalled all my drivers before. I thought it was my GPU, so I got a GTX 1070 and attempted to stream and had the exact same issue. I'll likely be getting a new hard drive and doing a fresh install of Windows 7 soon unless someone here has better ideas.

At first I thought my FX-8350 might be overheating so I got an aftermarket cooler but that didn't appear to help. The margin temperature for my CPU peaks at 16C and idles at 22C.

I really enjoy streaming, it makes me happy and helps me relieve the stress gained from working crappy jobs, so if anyone can point me in any direction I'd be very grateful. Mini dump files in the attachment.

EDIT: Need to clarify that my computer crashes without broadcasting games, it's just far less frequent.

Hello there. I've been having frequent BSOD's while both browsing, and gaming. It seems to be a hardware failure judging from the AMDAuthentic. Although I'm curious as to whether it's just the drivers. Any help would be appreciated. It happens more often when gaming, and my video card has overheated in the past, but at the time of most of my crashes the temp was in the 80's which is hot, but would normally run stable at that temp. The dump files refer to the processor being the problem though.

A:Frequent BSD: WHEA Uncorrectable Error, AMD Hardware

The WHEA Uncorrectable Error is a STOP 0x124 error (more info on that here: BSOD Index ). While it is most commonly a hardware problem, it's not always so.
First off, this is an error that's reported to the CPU - who, in turn, reports it to Windows (it's actually not blaming the CPU).

While temps in the 80's are hot, I wouldn't expect them to crash the system. I have to wonder about the method that you're measuring your temps - and the accuracy of the sensors. In the past I had a GPU running at 65?C that burned me severely. The sensor wasn't reading correctly and the temp was actually up around 100?C.

Your UEFI/BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the UEFI/BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one) - that is much more forgiving than the traditional (floppy drive) flash method.

You have a Linksys AE1200:. It's driver (AE1200w764.sys) dates from 2011:

Hello lovely tech support people,

So I recently completed building my first computer to play Warhammer Total War, these are the specifications for the build:

Case: CiT Vanquish Gaming Toolless Case with USB3 Port, Side Window, Card Reader and 2 x 12CM Green Led Fans
Power Supply: Corsair CP-9020015-UK Builder Series CX750 ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze Power Supply Unit, 750 W
Motherboard: Z97-K
Processor: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.20GHz
CPU fan: Alpenföhn Brocken ECO CPU Cooler - 120 mm
RAM: It originally came with 8GB of Hyper X Ram but I bought another 16GB of RAM and have mounted it in to the board as well
Graphics Card: MSI AMD R9 380 Gaming Graphics Card
Memory: Kingston Technology 480GB Solid State Drive
OS: Windows 10

So having whipped all of this together I've been experiencing a couple of problems. Firstly when I'm in the easy tuning wizard of my BIOS and try to set the BIOS to gaming or overclock it in anyway it will show Whea uncorrectable error when it tries to load up and crash. I can only get the system to boot by putting it down to normal. Everything will then be ok until I try and game with the thing. The computer can load Warhammer Total War and sometimes I'll be able to play for an hour or 2 (including battles) but it will then tend to freeze or end up at the dreaded Red Screen Of Death. The unit sizes are also a fourth smaller than they are meant to be even though I picked the suggested ultra graphics setting in the game set up.

I am hoping my computer information is in my sig but this is my first post here.

Hi,

Unfortunately, it's blown capacitors on the motherboard, near the cpu.

Replace motherboard with exact same one or purchase a new system.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the capacitors with low esr or ultra low type. See badcaps.net to purchase.

Out of curiosity, which motherboard is it and how old? Use CPU-Z to look if you don't know.

First of all, I am new here, so please do not jump down my throat if I do something wrong at first.

I have a Dell Inspirion 3531 with Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 came installed on the laptop. I have had this computer for about 5 months, and ever since I got the laptop I have been getting what you all call the "BSOD" that says WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR. Now, I know absolutely nothing about computers or how they work. Most of the solutions I have come across have been more frustrating than helpful because I have no idea what a motherboard is or what the bios are or anything like that. I'm hoping someone on here can give me an extremely dumbed down, step-by-step way to fix this issue.

The first time my laptop crashed was while I was watching Netflix. I was using the Netflix app I downloaded on the computer and I didn't really think anything of it. Then, this started happening more frequently and at the most inconvenient times, such as watching Netflix or doing homework. I called Dell and they didn't find any viruses on my laptop, but they did a factory reset. My laptop still crashed.

About a month ago I had one of my stepdad's friends look at my laptop to see if he could fix it. He didn't find any viruses or anything. One thing he did notice was that my laptop took awhile to start up and when it did (usually after crashing) it would have Windows updates. I changed the settings so I would have to update it manually thinking that would help, but it didn't. We refreshed th... Read more

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!

I had to wipe the HDD (ST750LM022) of my HP Envy dv6 7250ca laptop, with the intention of loading my files back onto a fresh install of an up-to-date Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. Before running the updates, I could restart without issue, but after installing the 55 updates and rebooting, it goes straight to automatic repair. If I then tell it to start up anyways, I get that it encountered "WHEA UNCORRECTABLE".
I tried the fixed posted here: http://windowsreport.com/fix-whea_uncorrectable_error-windows-8-1/
The results are that on the hard disk test I get the failure ID RLJBNF-6BB81L-QFPK0K-60WX03

Hello everybody,

This is my first time on this forum. I have made this account because I am dealing with an BSOD for a while now and I cannot seem to solve it so I am really hoping someone could help me with this.

I am getting the BSOD WHEA UNCORRECTABLE error message. It is really random for instance I could play GTA V all night without a problem and then when I start something else up a couple minutes later it just crashes. It even crashes sometimes when I am just on Youtube and Word.

With BlueScreenView I saw that two things could have caused this BSOD, it says it has been caused by hal.dll+3627f and ntoskrnl.exe+14a510 and that has not changed since the first time it has happenend. It's bugcheckcode is 0x0000124.

I have looked into this on the internet and they are saying that you have to update drivers and check temperatures but my drivers and my temperatures do not get above 65 degrees. Benchmarks to test my hardware also did not help. I also have done chkdsk in Command Prompt to see if that would work but I am still getting the BSODS.

I put all the files necessary in the attachments and I hope that it is enough information.

With kind regards,

Jelger

Hello,

Today I was playing Far Cry 4 when all off the sudden I was prompted by a Windows Error Message. The Error message said that Windows had Run into an error and needed to restart. While this message was displayed a Buzzing Noise was occurring. I'm not sure if this is an Error related to Far Cry only or if its a system wide problem. Any Help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
-Jon

A:Windows 8.1 BSoD whea uncorrectable error

Hi Jon22706 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

The only dump file present in the ZIP file is corrupt and cannot be analysed
Judging from your description, it seems that your hardware is overheating (Most likely GPU). Kindly run the below Hardware Diagnostics and report back what you got (thanks usasma) -
Hardware Diagnostics

Don't run the Hard Disk Diagnostics as of now. Run only Furmark and Prime95 and also post back the temperatures of your system while it is idle and when it is under load.
Let me know how it goes ^_^

Just bought an Inspiron I3650-1551SLV from Best Buy last week. I keep getting BSOD every day around the same hour.
The last time the BSOD had code WHE UNCORRECTABLE ERROR. Not sure about the other times as I just set it to not restart on BSOD.
The event log has an !ERROR! around the at the time of the BSOD Bugcheck 124. Same error time looking bat at the event logs.
I installed all the Windows updates on first boot, so I have no idea if an update is causing a problem.
I went into the device manager it didn't show any errors. A went down the list and one by one check for new drivers. It found and installed a few new drivers, about 5-8 I lost count. The Dell Support Assistant app that came installed always thinks the same 2 drivers are out of date even though I told it to install them multiple times (Chipset & Network). Support Assistant also found a Bios update but that installed fine.
I ran checkdisk C: without any /flags and it did not find any errors.
I tried to open C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP with notepad put it seems to be binary data.
If I cant fix this I will take it back to Best Buy while I can. Well I bought 2 identical machines, but only the one I use is getting BSOD, well I haven't gotten any complaints about the other machine and I don't see any bugcheck 124 errors on the event manager. Might end up taking both of them back, I don't know.

A:Inspiron BSOD bugcheck 124 whea uncorrectable error

You may have to take this one back to BB.
According to Microsoft:
The WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000124. This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).

I am in desperate need of help for the last couple of months I have been getting the errors described in the title above on a fairly frequent basis. at first i thought it may have been related to a hot swap drive i was using as every time i plug my ssd into that and then unplug it my system insists that it runs a scan of every drive for errors. in the last two months after this problem began I bought a brand new PSU. and Heatsink I have tried to reasearch these errors and usually fix 99% of what goes wrong within my system myself but this has me completely defeated. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Im using windows 10 64 bit

Look at the subject and you will see that it is NOT complete?

And what is "Whea"?

It would help to post the complete message that you get?

Hi, I got a new T470 a few weeks ago and everything was working fine. It is running Windows 10 Pro. Yesterday, the computer restarted itself and went straight to a blue screen with the "whea uncorrectable error" code.Everytime I try to restart the computer, it is directly blue screening. The automatic repair fails (blue screen), booting from a Windows recovery DVD fails (blue screen) and everything else fails as well. Does anybody know how I can fix this?  Thanks.

A:[T470] Blue screen (WHEA uncorrectable error)

Not good... You might try going int to the BIOS and resetting it to the setup defaults... but if you are getting a BSOD even when booting from a recovery DVD, you can rule out device drivers or a corrupted Windows OS installation as the cause, so that pretty much leaves only one other possibility, which would be bad hardware such as a bad CPU or system board etc..    Since it is under warranty, I would call support at 877-453-6686 and open a ticket.       Best of Luck,

I have a PC I'm servicing that keeps going BSOD at random times.
USing WHOCRASHED, I get the generic 0x124, Hal.dll, WHEA Uncorrectable Error Response.

I managed to get a hold of the Microsoft DART software that has a crash analyzer. It points to mcupdate_authenticamd.dll

This PC is the same exact build as 20 Others at this company. This is the only one behaving this way.

We have updated the BIOS, removed/reinstalled AMD drivers, Chipset, VGA. Yet it continues.

Anyone have any experience with this?
