I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Dear All, I am coming to you today as I already tried many (maybe all) of the suggested solutions posted on this forum.Unfortunately, I never managed to get a proper, working install. After updating to windows 10 (Auto update from windows - Online) the Validity Fingerprint Sensor (VFS451) just stopped working. When trying to uninstall VFS driver using device manager, the biometric will dissapear from the device list. After restarting, the biometric will show the Validity sensor as if nothing happened, same driver version (2.3.0.0) and same driver details???. Tried updating, manually uninstalling, third party drivers (Lenovo) etc... without success. I never got to the point where Windows Hello would show up and let me configure the sensor.Hope someone has a solution, at least to uninstall the driver as it seems to be the main problem. Many thanks in advance for your time and advice. Olivier

I really want to use the fingerprint reader on the HP Probook 430 G2, which is a Validity VFS495.The default wat is to use HP's security software, which I don't want to use.Another option would be to use Windows 8.1's built in "Biometrics" feature, but it's not enabled for some reason. Some reading into the issue told me that I need to install a "Windows Biometric Framework" enabled driver, but I couldn't find a working driver for the VFS495.It was suggested on multiple forums to download and use the driver from "http://www.validityinc.com/software/hp/wbf.php", but that link seems to be dead.Is there any other solution that would allow me to use the fingerprint reader without HP's software, or perhaps does anyone have a mirror to Validity's WBF driver?Thank you,-Elad

I?m sorry to hear that fingerprint reader in your Lenovo ThinkPad is not getting detected properly.

Could you please check whether fingerprint reader is enabled in BIOS? Also, reset the internal finger print data in BIOS and check.

Hope this helps! Do post back if issue persists.

I recently acquired a new E560 with win 7 and have a problem with the Fingerprint sensor. Intitially the FP sensor worked.  After loading finger prints I experienced an unexpected shut down (closed lid) and since then  the senor is not detected.  In the device manager the synatics sensor has no indiaction of a problem in the Biometrics (WBF) PID (0011) of the device mgr. and when the properties are checked it indicates it is working properly.?  Driver versions 4.5.266.0 dtd 7/21/14 and 4.5.327.0 dated 12/2/15 did not work.  I disabled the FP sensor in the BIOS and then reenabled observing no change.  I still get the "sensor not detected please ensure the FPS is properly configured"error message despite the Device Manager indicatingthe senor to properly working . ?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the sensor itsself and the FP software with  no change. Any suggestions?

A:Validity Sensor not working.

Unless HP has a driver for that device, so it will work with Windows 8.1, you may have to stick with Windows 7. You can try and see if Windows 8 will allow you to load the Windows 7 driver from HP's support site for your computer.

Hello,

I've been having this issue since yesterday morning. I have been trying to update the driver for my Validity Sensor (VFS451)
(fingerprint scanner) to the newest version so Windows Hello activates.

I have an EliteBook 8740w, WIndows 10. I've installed drivers from many, many different websites, and tried so many different methods. I got on the WIndows Catalog and downloaded the .cab file for it, no luck there. I try uninstalling it from 2.3.0.0 and some how, it always comes back. I turn off my internet so it doesn't auto install and try installing manually from the driver folder, no luck. I've uninstalled it from Programs and Features and still, no luck.

Any solutions? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I have an almost new ENVY 17-j150la Leap Motion SE  laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 64-bit without a problem.  Few days ago I updated it to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and everything is working fine except for the biometric Validity Sensor (WBF) (PID=0050), which is only recognizable by the HP SimplePass software, but not by Windows natively. I want to use the native Windows Hello option, to sign in to my account, but Windows cannot read the fingerprint. When you put your finger over the sensor nothing happens (and it is connected and working, because you can see its light turned on), but when you open SimplePass software the sensor magically start reading the fingerprint (only this software, not Windows by itself). I tried to reinstall the drivers or find a solution on the web, but found nothing, reinstalling the drivers didn't solve the problem. Tried uninstalling SimplePass too, but it neither works. I want to know if there's a way or an option to make the sensor recognizable by Windows 10 and not only by the HP software, or if there's another driver we can use to make it work.  Thanks!

Just purchased a Pavilion dm4 notebook that came with the Validity Fingerpring scanner. As soon as I bought the laptop, I was quick to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit as my work requires the extra features in Win 7 Pro. The stock OS that was pre-installed was Win 7 Home Prem. So here is my issue, the fingerpring scanner wont work. I have the proper driver installed from hp's website (found here) and after rebooting, it still does not work. I have installed the hp Support application that scans my notebook for the latest drivers and found no updates needed. I have not tried rolling back the driver as the option is not available (only one driver was ever installed anyways) and I have also tried uninstalling the driver, rebooting, reinstalling the driver, rebooting, and it still will not work. I have also tried doing the same just previously mention but this time running the installation as an admin (right click, "run as administrator"). Still nothing.... I also tried navigating to the driver folder on C:\ and then runing the application as an admin, but still come up short handed.... Sometimes the light will come on like its working, but when I go to use it to enroll my fingerprint it just won't do anything. Is there another piece of software besides the drvier that I need to install to get this work? Please help, thank you! -Jacob

Something is weird with the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works instantly and recognizes my fingerprint right away, no matter which part of the finger I use. The problem is that it's *constantly* forgetting my finger. It'll work fine, then I'll close my laptop and come back in a little bit and it doesn't work at all...fails three times and have to use my PIN. Once that happens it doesn't work again, at all, until I re-enroll my fingerprint at which time it works perfectly again for some time. I end up having to re-enroll once or twice a day. Lenovo Vantage pulled in a new version of the driver package today but it didn't help...the issue just happened again. Anyone know what the cause might be?

Hi,I was wondering, whether there are actually some Lenovo guys around, or at least people who can get in touch with them. Many people have been trying to get the new fingerprint reader (by Validity / Synaptic) to run under Linux. However it seems, that there simply is no driver around.I'm talking about the fancy new fingerprint reader found in the current Thinkpad generation (Yoga X1, X1 Carbon, X260, X460, T460s, T460p).The linux community already tried to develop some driver, however it seems, that the traffic is encrypted. The only, however very tiresome possibility would probably be to port the Windows driver... See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94536 for infos. However in the recent years Lenovo did quite some good work for Linux support, thus I was wondering, whether it would be possible for this to continue. Greetings,grb19

Thanks to Josh5 and to xbalanke. Your outline pointed me in the right direction.  I have a HP Probook 4540s which, like your computer, has a VFS491 fingerprint scanner.  For me installing the Lenovo and Dell drivers that are mentioned didn't work.  They wouldn't appear in the drivers list, even when I unticked "show compatible hardware".  What worked for me in the end was:Followed xbalanke's steps through to untick "show compatitible hardware".  I then selected the driver called "Validity Sensor (VFS495)".  This is still the standard Microsoft driver, but for the VFS495 scanner.I then had to install HP ProtectTools Security Manager  (for Windows 8.1).Then rebooted. And it worked.  I now have fingerprint scanning to sign on.  What is weird is that "Windows Hello" still does NOT show in the settings sign on options.   So I use HP Client Security app (part of HP ProtectTools Security Manager) to load and manage fingerprints. I totally agree - it's very annoying that HP hasn't yet released updated drivers for the fingerprint scanner (VFS291) that are compatible with Windows Hello.  ___________________________ This worked perfectly using both posts starting with xbalanke and then Josh5.

When I log in my pc with a successful swipe, after the led being stopped blinking, it starts to keep blinking again (just like it does before swiping) and it always happens only during log in/sign in time. Then I have either to swipe again my enrolled finger (resulting white light lit up for some seconds) or an un-enrolled finger to get unsuccessful swipe (amber light lit up for some seconds) and then in both cases, it stops blinking. Another problem is, chossing an entry from multiple entries of usernames from in-browser notification panel of HP SimplePass makes the scanner paused (pause message comes up). For this, choosing another tab/windows of broswer and then returning to that tab/window resumes it. I don't know if the latter problem is with Hp Simple Pass or Validity Fingerprint Driver. Is there any other version working without these problem? These are my laptop specs: Laptop Model - Pavilion dv6-6011txOS - Windows 8.1 Pro (x64)Validity Fingerprint Driver - 4.4.234.0 (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.html)HP SimplePass - 6.0.100.276 (ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63224.html)

Hi Fs71gh, I understand you are having an issue with the HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software on your HP Pavilion dv6-6011tx  Notebook.  The software you have is up to date and the latest. One thing that can cause an issue is the finger reader is dirty. I would clean this and make sure the HP Notebook is up to date with Windows 8. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I upgraded to Win10 last year. The fingerprint reader has been working fine since then. Recently it stopped. Device Manager says the device is working properly. SimplePass doesn'r report an issue. I'm still prompted for my fingerprint when logging into web sites. But the reader doesn't appear to be on. The light doesn't flash and my fingerprint isn't read. Device Manager lists the driver as: 1/7/20124.3.301.0 My SimplePass is: 6.0.100.276

Hi: HP does not support your notebook for W10. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282 The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W7 fingerprint sensor driver from your PC's support page. This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications. 4.5.133.0 Rev.A    Jun 20, 2014 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp66501-67000/sp66915.exe If that works, and you want to use the fingerprint sensor to log in, see if installing the W10 Client Security Manager software works to enroll your fingerprint. This software supercedes the HP ProtectTools software. HP Client Security Manager provides enhanced Windows login and website single-sign-on capabilities. Security Manager is also the host for HP Client Security plugins, and therefore should be installed before other Client Security modules. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74101.exe

Hi. Help me to add one user fingerprint data to diferent OS in one laptop. So, i have - HP elitebook 8470p - Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003d) - two OS Win7 and win10 (i can select only one to load) - same user for both OS First i add 2 fingers in one OS, and it work.Next i try to add same 2 fingers to other, but "error - finger already regested". It's mean that theris some other user (i am , already added by other OS) who have the same fingerprints. And i can add it again.  I try several times to fix it.but no result. In the begining was different fingerprint sensor driver and HP securiti software in OSes.Then i install same to both.Make reset fingerprint sensor in bios and delete all fingerprints in hp security. But still no result... This is my curent driver and software:sp72896 Synaptics WBF Fingerprint Driversp74101 HP Client Security Manager (American, International) P.S. in other laptop i have 3 OS!!! Win7+Win7+Win7. And no troubles with fingerprints. One user for all OSes.

I was very kindly helped by Aca Candy recently with a blue screen problem. Unfortunately I had to have my laptop reformatted. Now for some reason I cannot use the fingerprint sensor. I try to open the program but no luck. I am running vista business, software program is ATSwpNav
and I have a Lifebook P7230.
Incidentally as the notebook is only now 2 months old I did try the supplier an internet seller called Laptops Direct in the UK, they are a total waste of space! Looks like I am on my own??
Anyone wishing to help would be most welcome

I have contacted with customer care many times....but no response was given . And I also visited service center chandigarh and they said that the scanner will be replaced and it'll take 4-5 days. But due to shortage of time i was not able to give them the laptop for repairing. This is in onsite warranty , so kindly replace this scanner  and do needful .

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post serial numbers and case details. If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, this post has instructions.

Hi all! I just got my 6st gen Carbon X1 - beautiful device, I'm loving it. BUT! Out of the box the fingerprint reader didn't work properly. Kept disconecting. So I updated WIN 10 and installed all the drivers plus the BIOS. Now, under the Device Manager, it just says "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I tried reinstalling the drivers, manually and through Vantage - no go. I keep reading that this turns up as a problem sometimes, but most people solved it through driver reinstalls. Doesn't work here. So, before I return it - any ideas? Thanks.

The sign in options settings are not showing an option for fingerprint set up or even the Windows Hello setup option. I have installed the validity fingerprint sensor driver but even then the problem is same.

Hi!Here is my first post. it's related to fingerprint sensor. Machine is a T570 "out-of-box" with Win 10 PRO. I ran MS Windows updates then Lenovo updates through Lenovo companion program.I notice after applying proposed fingerprint driver (Synaptics Metallica MOC touch FP driver - V5.2.3515.26)  sensor doesn't work anymore ... To log in I'm forced to use the PIN code or password way. Sensor no longer recognizes my finger. In fact it is the sensor itself that is no longer functional (no light). Obviously before I tried to configure the sensor again but without success ... Using the previous driver through drivers manager, everything works again (5.2.3512)Has anyone had the same problem? Thanks in advanceRegards

Neither the fingerprint sensor or the HP SimplePass software are working after a recent Windows 10 update. Tried updating, repairing, reinstalling both the Validity Sensor driver as well as the SimplePass software but it still does not work. Read many posts in these forums and tried various suggested solutions but none of them solved the problem.
