Hey, Fellas, I'm back.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Have a look at the events log and make a virus scan too.
I get this meesage every time I log on to internet: 'Internet explorer has stopped working. Windows will close program and notify you of a solution'
I get access to the designated website but this message persists
I have tried solutions using msconfig and disabling programs without effect.
This problem resulted after immediately afet downloading Microsoft updates, which i had not done for several months.
Note I am having to use a different computer but these are the specs: Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 18.104.22.168
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3CPU 5550 @ 3.20 Gh Processor Count: 2

Antivirus: GFI Software VIPRE, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled
There should be an option in the start menu to run Internet Explorer with Add-Ons disabled. Have you tried this? I would aslo recommend switching browsers if possible, try Firefox or Chrome.
Working on my mother's computer as a favor. When launching Internet Explorer (version 11), it immediately crashes, giving "Internet Explorer has stopped working", without any cause or error notices. I have made sure that there are no addons running, and reset the program/security settings.
I found that I can launch IE by running it as administrator, so I have limited ability to browse; naturally I don't want to run it as an admin all the time.
I ran an sfc /scannow and its log indicated that it could not restore C:\windows\SysWOW64\iesysprep.dll and that the archived version was also corrupt. I am not certain whether this is the cause of the crashes, or a completely unrelated issue, but I see that you folks were able to help out someone with a problem similar to this part recently.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Have you tried other browsers?
Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes: List last 10 Event Viewer log List Installed Programs List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
I thought I knew what I was doing, but I can't figure out why IE keeps crashing. It will run for a while, then without warning, crashbox.
Attached is the minitoolbox scan and the speccy link. By the way, I have already deleted all of the bluestacks files as instructed by the bluestacks web site.http://speccy.piriform.com/results/VYS612jtFxbIyZVcqiCVKTE
Please let me know if you need anything else.
The reason I ask about this is that maybe some setting could be changed to make Internet Explorer work properly and not "stop working"...
A family member with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10 suddenly is unable to open IE either through the shortcut or directly on the iexplore.exe file; but on the other hand, no trouble occurs if IE is right-clicked and Run As Administrator. So IE on the machine DOES work, but only if Run As Administrator.
I tried to help by looking in the Internet Explorer Properties - Security tab on another machine to compare, but everything (except an extra user type, S-1-15-2-1, on Win7 not shown on Win Vista) appears to be the same.
The windows Vista machine used for comparison has IE 9. The Windows 7 machine on which "IE stopped working" happens is 64bit windows and there is installation of IE 10 in both the Program Files path AND the Program Files (x86) path.
The exact "error" message when IE stops is :
Internet Explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Hopefully someone knows about some setting or option that could be changed or checked so that the user or anyone else not need to Run As Administrator but may just double click the desktop icon as normal to run IE.
Go to Programs and Features > Left side, click View Installed Updates > scroll down to find Windows Internet Explorer 10 >
Right click at it > click Uninstall.
System will revert back to IE 9 automatically after IE 10 is uninstalled. Now Reboot the computer -
You don't need to re-install IE9, as it will be there.
Minor bugs in IE 10 -
I have an HP running Windows Vista. Initially things were working just fine, but recently I have lost the ability to connect to the internet. I try to launch IE, but get the same error message. I've tried the reset button in Control Panel>Advanced Settings but it did not solve the problem.
I am not running OmniPage either, another problem I read about on other blogs.
Does anyone have some suggestions for things I might try to get IE to work again?
and welcome to the Forum
What is the error message?
Keep getting this error message (attached) and now and then when I go to open a new window, only an upper piece of a window manages to open, like a slit or corner of the upper bar.
To fix, went to:
control panel > network & internet > internet options > advanced... tick "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" 1st selection
But now I still get the partial windows on opening them. What's the cause here?

we are currently facing a problem with our SharePoint Site crashing the Internet Explorer 10. We have no idea which custom code triggers this crash and why.
We have no Problem with IE9, IE11, Chrome or FireFox.If we change the tab while loading the page in the IE10 and switch back, everything works fine.It crashes on all Windows 7 Systems tested so far. Seems to be no Policy problem. All Addons disabled, same problemCleared cached Data, same problem
Any idea how to debug this issue?

I was wondering if anyone could help me? I have been having a lot of issues with my computer and using the internet. I keep getting messages such as ‘windows explorer has stopped working ‘and ‘Host process for windows services stopped working’. I haven’t been able to stream videos (with the exception of youtube), download certain programs and browsing sites is slow. I remember my computer being fine until a window update but I don’t know if that’s a coincidence or not. I have tired uninstalling windows explorer and system restore to no avail.
I would really appreciate any help or advice.
Here is a report for one of the error messages I received.

I have a Gateway NV78 laptop running Windows 7 and Explorer 8. Verizon is my IP. When I click the Explorer icon after going on line my home page starts to load but before it finishes I receive a message saying Internet Explorer has stopped working and I never get to my home page. I called Verizon support and they said it was an Explorer or Gateway problem. I called Microsoft and they said it was a Gateway problem. I got things working by doing a system restore to a week earlier. That worked for a day. The next day all attempts at a system recovery failed.
Windows updates also fail to complete and update when I get on line by doing what appears below..
I can get on line buy closing the Internet Explorer has stopped working drop down and than quickly hitting the tools / Internet Options/ option. What do I have to do to stop receiving the Internet Explorer has stopped working drop down on Internet sign on attempts?
You may (or may not) benefit by trying this:
- control panel
-then click reset button.
Hi, i am hoping someone can offer me some advice.
I have a new laptop with windows 7 installed and Internet Explorer 9 being used.
I have checked various options thats other have posted but they do not appear to be resolving the problem.
Typical example f the problem....
I get an email with a link, click and the link opens within browser. If the link then has a document witin it to open (I think they are PDF'S) the browser comes up with the following message:
A problem caused prog to stop working - it then asks you to close the page.
I have tried resetting default settings i have tried No add ons and the problem still persists.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
I can't give you advices, but i can just say that i have the exact same problem... i'm trying to get answers but so far, not helpfull...just want to let you know that your not alone.
Just tell me something... is all ok when you try to open videos in your WMP?
I?m asking that because in my case the same happens with other programs, specially audio and video an i?m trying to figure out if the to problems are related.
Hi, my internet explorer stopped working. I had IE 7 beta 2 installed and I decided to uninstall it , after which it stopped displaying web pages.
There have been many that have had difficulty with IE7
are you wishing to get it fixed or to remove it?
I did not like it and tried removing it with it ending up a mess
after trying to remove it in add/remove i ended up with a mixture of IE6 and IE7 withboth nothing working.
I then did system restore to a day or 2 before i installed IE7 and that did not do any good
then i did a system restore to the day i installed IE7 and that did the trick
if nobody else comes up with another solution you can try what i did if you want to remove it but i would wait a bit yet to see if there were any other patches or solutions
My husband purchased a new lap top a couple weeks ago and is already getting errors with Vista. I have to use my old reliable to look up the problem solution. I have seen that this is a common error but I haven't found a really good solution. The error is a windows error that states
internet explorer has stopped working
A problem caused by the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available..
This happens as soon as the program is opened.
How irritating. How could you check for notification if you can't use the internet?
My husband states that he can get around the error by right clicking on IE and open it as an administer. Anyway to fix this?
Welcome to the wonderful world of Vista..................!
As a suggestion, you could just do away with IE 7 and download and install a different browser, ie, Firefox or even Opera.
just a thought,

First, be sure to back up anything on this computer that you want to keep (videos, music, pictures, documents, etc.).
Next, you're going to need to do one of three things:
1) Get professional help. To do this, either follow these instructions and post a new thread in the virus/trojan/spyware help forum (be patient as the analysts are very busy) or take your computer to a local computer technician,
2) reinstall your OS (be sure you have your driver disk (or, if you don't, that you download the appropriate drivers for your hardware) and clean the hard drive completely with a program like dban before you do a fresh install of your OS), or
3) try to fight the infection on your own via online scanners and/or by downloading and using free virus scanners (don't have more than one antivirus program running at any one time; also note that this option is not recommended and that, if you want to fight the infection, you really should have a professional do it in order to insure that your computer is completely clean).
Also, once you get your computer cleaned, I suggest getting an antivirus program with on-access scanning capabilities and a firewall.
I keep getting an error message stating IE has stopped working. I have copied the error message and was wondering if anyone could advise a solution.

Im getting an error that says internet explorer has stopped working and will notify me when they find a way to fixed the problem. I also get this when i try mozilla firefox? i have tried many things any other ideas?
If both are affected IE and firefox then it could be a malware/spyware infection or maybe a virus, have you tried running scan antispyware or antivirus?
You can also try going on safemode and see if you will get the same thing.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!
Have you tried to reset IE?
This morning my Windows 7 Home Premium downloaded and installed 6 new updates. When it started up again I kept getting a message saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution" then it would restart explorer and this would go on non-stop. I booted into safe-mode and restored to a restore point from 3 days ago. This solved the problem. Have you heard of other problems with this latest Windows 7 update? I'm afraid to let it re-install again.
Hi, I too have had exactly the same problem, and solved it in exactly the same way but not in safe mode. I then reinstalled the updates and have so had no problems. Sorry I can't help more with this one, but a problem shared......
I have ran all the normal things but IE still says " cannot display webpage", or windows has stopped working.
Most of the time when I'm in Facebook it happends.
I'm running Win 7 home.

I have a similar problem with EI 11 on my PC with W8.1, which is fully updated. It happens whenever I try to "Save as" a download or to print a web page.
So far I have reset it, opened it as administrator and turned off smart screen filter - to no effect.
Should I try to disable EI from the Uninstall Programs - Turn Windows on or off?
I have since turned off IE11 via the Programs and Features in the Control Panel, restarted .....and then turned it on again, and again restarted, but it still stops working when Save or Print is selected.Read other 7 answers
I bet I've received this message 20 times or more today and yesterday. Of course, Windows is checking for a solution to the problem and soon it works again, but within a few minutes, it stops working again.
Should I uninstall IE 10 and go back to IE 9, or download a new IE 10, or what?
You all know a whole lot more than me and I won't do anything without asking you first. Thanks.
Do you remember any changes you might have made on your system that might be related? Install any software lately, maybe?
Either way, restoring your computer to a recent restore point might fix it.

Did you keep your antivirus or other security suite package from before the upgrade?
You might think about uninstalling it if you did, to see if it has a positive effect.
It's the most likely cause, assuming the machine connects to the net well otherwise, with other programs.
Other than that, make sure there is no proxy being set in I.E.'s properties.
If you have Java installed on the machine, update it to latest.

Hello, I am having a little problem here and just trying to see if anyone can help.
Anytime I try to enter into this chatroom on a discussion forum I frequent I get that stupid message box that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working" it shows a litle progress bar under it and says "Windows is checking for a solution" but all it ever comes up with is another box that says "A propgram has caused this program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I had no problem entering the chat room on my other computer a Dell Inspiron E1705 but that one is now dead and I am currently using a Dell XPSm1730 running Vista Home Premium. I tried deleting my browsing history and re-downloading/installing Java but it doesn't seem to do any good.
Just as an aside: I know the problem is with my computer and not the chat program. So if anyone could help that would be great.

I am on the internet as I can get updates etc. but IE, Firefox, and Chrome will not run. The message is xxxxxx has stopped working

We just got a new computer with explorer 8 and after several weeks we get the message, "Internet Explorer is not working". Then, it closes window and tries to restart at prior webpage. The only thing different we did, that we can remember, is load DivX and also, we did get some shopper toolbar on the right which I uninstalled. Tried to disable plugins but not having any effect. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
I have looked everywhere for an answer to this problem, and so far, nothing has helped. My computer has Windows Vista and I recently updated to Internet Explorer 8. When I to to certain websites, I get the message:
"Internet Explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
This doesn't happen on every website, but only on some. They are websites that I have used regularly before, such as www.ksdk.com (local news) and www.coldwatercreek.com (a clothing site). I am at a loss and don't know what else to try. I downloaded the browser for Firefox and I am able to use them through there, but it is a hassle to have to go back and forth, and often, there is something that I want to see on the sites and Firefox wants to ad new programs, but they won't load. PLEASE HELP!!
I suggest that you reinstall Firefox and make sure that it is up to date. As for Internet Explorer - reinstall that as well.
If that doesn't work for IE or Firefox, try getting your hands on 'Tune-Up Utilities 2009': Run the 1-Click Maintenance - it should fix a bunch of problems within your operating system (me personally, I install Tune-Up Utilities literally after installing Windows and any Security Software).
I have a Dell 530 Inspiron running Windows Vista. My Internet Explorer 9 has stopped running. When I try to start it it gives me the message that IE has stopped working and Windows is searching for a solution, Windows is closing the program and will notify me if a solution is available.
I tried right clicking Computer, click Properties, Advanced System Settings, Performance Settings, Data Execution Performance tab, in the box under "Turned on DEP for all programs and services.." I added Internet Explorer. This did not fix it.
I am able to start IE in Safe Mode. While in there I went to Internet Options, Advanced Options tab and unchecked "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks". I rebooted in regular mode. Tried it again but it did not help. I got the same message.
I tried to uninstall IE 9 but got a message "An error has occured. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled". I rebooted in safe mode. Started IE it was still running IE9. While in Safe Mode I tried uninstalling IE but got the same message "Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled".
When I look in Control Panel, Problem Reports and Solutions, View Problem History I see the error message that is being produced whenever I start IE. It is pasted below.

Hell All,Specs:I am running IE v9 (9.0.8112.16421 - 256 bit) on Windows Vista Home Edition (sp2)Issue: When i am browswing any site, and click a link which will open a second browser tab, i immediately get an error message "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working" with a Close Program button. This will only close out the new tab that was attempting to be opened.Solution:This is what I am looking for. I would think there is a setting in IE. Prior to upgrading to IE v9, i was on v8 and at one point was ok, but eventually started having this issue, cant remember exactly when. Any suggestions would be appreciated!-Anthony

When I am usually effects facebook I get the message " windows internet explorer has stopped working then it reloads the page , how can I fix this and stop it form happening again?
Have you tried using a different browser like Chrome or Firefox
When I'm on a web page a form pops up saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working, a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Then I click the close program. When I did that the tab that tells you the web page you are on would disappear for second or two and reappear. the computer would tell me with a arrow pointing at the tab, that it has been recovered. So this has started to do this a little more then at first. Could I just get a different version of E Internet Explorer install it , and uninstall the one I have. Would that fix the problem. I installed Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 and everytime I ran IE7 then started navigating through pages it would crash. Not every page would cause the crash but the pages that did crashed it every time.
It was a fresh install. No addons, no virus scan installed, no programs installed. I tried it before installing the drivers Vista could not identify (video and sound) and I tried it after installing the drivers so there were no unknowns in Device Manager. Either way the same result. I clicked the reset button on the advanced tab but that didn't resolve the problem. I installed Flash but that didn't resolve it. I modified the IE security settings, I turned off Protected mode, I turned off pop up blocker, all of these things did not stop IE7 from crashing with that error.
I installed Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 and have not seen this problem once.
My PC is an AMD dual core x64 proc, ATI Radeon card, the board has an ATI chipset, the SB600. I have 4 gigs of RAM. I don't know if any of that makes a differnece.
Anyone else have this problem and were able to resolve it?
Anyone have ideas as to what's causing it or have any questions for me?
Well, can you have a look at the events log, what does it say?Read other 1 answers
I do not use IE, but my wife does...so I don't know how this happened, but now - whenever we try to open IE - nothing loads and it just says "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working" etc etc - a problem occurred and needs to close.
I also get the same issue when I try to run AVG antivirus, so that stinks too.
I had IE8, reverted to 7 (problem still existed) reinstalled 8 (and again) and now am back on 7. Running windows Vista. Tried installing a couple programs to fix it, but it is hit or miss with the programs as to what will cause the error again and shut down whatever I am trying to install/run. I installed registry mechanic and ran that and got no help.
Have no clue what to do now. Any help?
I would first suggest you upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 again.
If you find that your IE8 continues to stop working frequently in Windows, here are some trouble-shooting steps you may try:
1. Run your anti-virus and an anti-spyware, to check for malware infections. Microsoft Security Essentials is a good freeware AV from Microsoft.
2. Clear Cache. Or else run your Junk Cleaner or CCleaner. In IE 7 or 8, click Tools > Internet options > Security > Reset all Zones to Default level
3. If still you find your IE giving problems, close it and run IE (No Add-ons). This opens up the browser without loading any add-ons, toolbars or plug-ins.
4. Run sfc /sc?annow and at the end reboot if asked for. This will replace corrupted system files if any.
If you find it running OK, then the problem is most probably caused by an addon. In that case you have two options :
- Use the manage Add-ons tool, and disable each one after the other to find out which one is causing the problem.
- In Internet Options, go to Advanced Tab and click on Reset tab. Restart IE. This step deletes all temp files, disables any add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars and also resets all changed settings to default. Although this is a quick-fix, you will have to re-install the add-ons.
I hope this helps!

This is what I keep getting popping up...but Internet Explorer carries on working so I dont understand why it keeps popping up all the time...I dont seem to have any virus or malware as I done checks so dont understand what its doing it for.
I have tried to reset Internet Explorer which seemed to work for a very limited time but starts up again for no reason I can see..
Anyone throw any light on this situation?
Try starting Internet Explorer this way and see if it makes a difference.
Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
I turned my PC on the other day after using it the day before without issue. I attempted to open internet explorer and the error message popped up saying it had stopped working. I clicked try to find a solution online and after awhile it closed the browser. I haven't been able to open it since.
I have turned off gpu hardware acceleration.
I have reset the browser.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled it via windows updates.
It's driving me crazy because I cannot access the Internet on my PC at all!
I ended up getting a friend to download the Firefox browser assuming that would be a workaround but I've just launched that browser to the same message. Firefox has stopped working.
I have run malwarebytes and several other antivirus programs and not one thing has appeared in the results.
This is the message I get when it says it has stopped working and ask for more details:
