Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

Q: Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

Hey, Fellas, I'm back.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..

Preferred Solution: Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have a look at the events log and make a virus scan too.

There should be an option in the start menu to run Internet Explorer with Add-Ons disabled. Have you tried this? I would aslo recommend switching browsers if possible, try Firefox or Chrome.

Working on my mother's computer as a favor.  When launching Internet Explorer (version 11), it immediately crashes, giving "Internet Explorer has stopped working", without any cause or error notices.  I have made sure that there are no addons running, and reset the program/security settings.
I found that I can launch IE by running it as administrator, so I have limited ability to browse; naturally I don't want to run it as an admin all the time.
I ran an sfc /scannow and its log indicated that it could not restore C:\windows\SysWOW64\iesysprep.dll and that the archived version was also corrupt.  I am not certain whether this is the cause of the crashes, or a completely unrelated issue, but I see that you folks were able to help out someone with a problem similar to this part recently.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

The reason I ask about this is that maybe some setting could be changed to make Internet Explorer work properly and not "stop working"...
A family member with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10 suddenly is unable to open IE either through the shortcut or directly on the iexplore.exe file; but on the other hand, no trouble occurs if IE is right-clicked and Run As Administrator.  So IE on the machine DOES work, but only if Run As Administrator.
I tried to help by looking in the Internet Explorer Properties  - Security tab on another machine to compare, but everything (except an extra user type, S-1-15-2-1,  on Win7 not shown on Win Vista) appears to be the same.
The windows Vista machine used for comparison has IE 9.  The Windows 7 machine on which "IE stopped working" happens is 64bit windows and there is installation of IE 10 in both the Program Files path AND the Program Files (x86) path.
The exact "error" message when IE stops is :

Internet Explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Hopefully someone knows about some setting or option that could be changed or checked so that the user or anyone else not need to Run As Administrator but may just double click the desktop icon as normal to run IE.

A:Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 stopped working

Go to Programs and Features > Left side, click View Installed Updates > scroll down to find Windows Internet Explorer 10 >
Right click at it > click Uninstall.
System will revert back to IE 9 automatically after IE 10 is uninstalled. Now Reboot the computer -
You don't need to re-install IE9, as it will be there.

I have an HP running Windows Vista. Initially things were working just fine, but recently I have lost the ability to connect to the internet. I try to launch IE, but get the same error message. I've tried the reset button in Control Panel>Advanced Settings but it did not solve the problem.
I am not running OmniPage either, another problem I read about on other blogs.
Does anyone have some suggestions for things I might try to get IE to work again?

Keep getting this error message (attached) and now and then when I go to open a new window, only an upper piece of a window manages to open, like a slit or corner of the upper bar.

To fix, went to:

control panel > network & internet > internet options > advanced... tick "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" 1st selection
But now I still get the partial windows on opening them. What's the cause here?

Good morning,

I have a Mac Book Pro that's been partitioned - the other side is Windows Vista Business. My job requires me to use Internet Explorer extensively and unfortunately it has stopped working. It will look like it's working (the hourglass) for a few seconds, then stops. I have tried launching it from the desktop, from the start menu to no avail.

I have tried running Problems and Reports - I see what the conflictions are - but Problems and Reports stops working. I end up with a program not responding each time. But the problems that show up are: Internet Explorer icon - recommended updated; Internet Explorer icon - problem caused by Windows; Problem caused by Apple Destop Null Driver; Windows Compatability Problem.

I also tried - start, accessories, system tools, i e (no add ons) - still won't start.

I would very much appreciate your assistance in solving this.

A:Internet Explorer stopped working

Is the problem just with Internet Explorer, or does another browser have issues as well? Can you update that version of Internet Explorer? Or, if it has been updated, can you remove the update and return to the last version for a test?

If you check the Task Manager > Processes tab when this issue is occurring, is anything mis-behaving with regard to excess processor usage?

Have you tried a System Restore?

Also the business edition has a full drive backup and restore ability -- have you ever used that?

You can also try a "clean boot" of the Windows OS >>

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup items" on the general page.
Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > startups and are in “selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

Internet Explorer stopped working a few weeks ago on my home computer.  I can't give a ton of details because I don't use it, my wife does (I use Chrome).  When you try to open it, you get a spinning circle in the center of the screen for about 5 seconds, then that goes away.  That's it.  I've used CCleaner to clean all cache, temp files, etc for IE.    I've run virus scans, anti Malware scans, etc.  All come back clean.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit.
Any ideas ?

During the past few weeks I've been getting the pop up message "Internet Explorer has stopped working." Followed by "A problem has caused Internet Explorer to stop working. Windows will notify you if a solution is found." Immediately after this about 50% of the time the page I was on was able to recover. The other half of the time I'm directed back to the Google Homepage. I am using IE8 and never had a problem until this started. Would anyone have any suggestions for trouble shooting or a way to remedy this annoying problem?

Try clearing your cache files and run Malwarebytes and your resident antivirus. See if you can update to IE9 and check the difference.

I have been asked to take a look at a problem my friend is experiencing with their laptop, which is a fairly modern Toshiba running Windows 7.

The problem apparently lies only with Internet Explorer, which, when opened, presents a message stating that:

"Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

It is highly likely that this problem began only after automatic updates were installed.

I have researched this issue on the web and according to posts on the Microsoft Community forum it seems that one of the add-ons might be causing a conflict, and that in order to clear the problem I should simply have to open Internet Explorer, navigate to Tools/Options and delete the browsing history, clear the cache etc. etc.

When I open I.E and before I can access Tools/Options the same onscreen message appears and will only then let me close the program and not access anything in order to make the necessary changes.

Is there any way to overcome this hurdle, or might it be best for me to to de-install/re-install the browser? Also, is it possible that there might be associated files that are not deleted by default, which could then corrupt the fresh installation?

I should perhaps add that I have managed to install Firefox on the laptop in question, and Firefox accesses the internet just fine.

Any advice or assistance gratefully received.

My mom called tonight to say that their HP computer is having problems that started yesterday. When she clicks on IE8 she gets a message that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". She then gets an option to have it look for a solution online and when she picks that it all goes away. She can access her email and get updates in other programs.

I do not live close to them so driving over there is not an option. I can download items and mail USB drives to them or CD's if needed.

Hi guys
For a while we have an issue with an error message popping up saying "Internet Explorer has stopped working". This is happening only when using Outlook.
Apparently Outlook is trying to lunch an IE process and this only can run if the user has local admin rights. Unfortunatelly in our environment this is not possible. If we disable IE the error message is not popping up anymore.

We are using IE11 and Win10.  I had this issue raised with the Office department and they advised I should raise it here.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

I have a Gateway NV78 laptop running Windows 7 and Explorer 8. Verizon is my IP. When I click the Explorer icon after going on line my home page starts to load but before it finishes I receive a message saying “Internet Explorer has stopped working” and I never get to my home page. I called Verizon support and they said it was an Explorer or Gateway problem. I called Microsoft and they said it was a Gateway problem. I got things working by doing a system restore to a week earlier. That worked for a day. The next day all attempts at a system recovery failed.

Windows updates also fail to complete and update when I get on line by doing what appears below..

I can get on line buy closing the “Internet Explorer has stopped working” drop down and than quickly hitting the tools / Internet Options/ option. What do I have to do to stop receiving the “Internet Explorer has stopped working” drop down on Internet sign on attempts?

A:internet explorer has stopped working

Did you keep your antivirus or other security suite package from before the upgrade?

You might think about uninstalling it if you did, to see if it has a positive effect.

It's the most likely cause, assuming the machine connects to the net well otherwise, with other programs.

Other than that, make sure there is no proxy being set in I.E.'s properties.

If you have Java installed on the machine, update it to latest.

I removed System Check from a Vista Bis 64bit PC today, using rkill, combofix, and malwarebytes. All scans come back clean.

I am on the internet as I can get updates etc. but IE, Firefox, and Chrome will not run. The message is xxxxxx has stopped working

Any suggestions short of a rebuild would be appreciated.

Need some help. My IE has just stopped working and I have no idea how to fix it. Says there is a firewall problem but there are no firewall programs on my laptop and windows firewall is off. Also, my firefox works fine. Don't understand. Also, certain programs won't connect now but others will. Please help?!

A:My internet explorer has stopped working

Sounds like a non-Windows firewall problem. Maybe you uninstalled one that didn't go away completely?

I am writing regarding my husbands computer which runs Internet Explorer as his search engine, and it keeps stopping.  Obviously he can't go online because of it and I've been trying to figure out a way to fix it.  The search for solutions box
never comes up with any solutions!!  This is very frustrating to say the least.  It all started on October 25th I believe, until then everything worked properly.  I've done a complete computer scan, with no problems showing.  If I restore
his system to Oct. 24th, it works for about 10 minutes, then stops working again.   I am writing from my computer searching for help.  Hope you can give me some suggestions or reasons why this is happening.

I turned my PC on the other day after using it the day before without issue. I attempted to open internet explorer and the error message popped up saying it had stopped working. I clicked try to find a solution online and after awhile it closed the browser. I haven't been able to open it since.

I have turned off gpu hardware acceleration.

I have reset the browser.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it via windows updates.

It's driving me crazy because I cannot access the Internet on my PC at all!

I ended up getting a friend to download the Firefox browser assuming that would be a workaround but I've just launched that browser to the same message. Firefox has stopped working.

I have run malwarebytes and several other antivirus programs and not one thing has appeared in the results.

This is the message I get when it says it has stopped working and ask for more details:

Hi All,
