Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

Q: Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

Hey, Fellas, I'm back.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything.
Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..

Preferred Solution: Windows Explorer Stopped Working, Internet Explorer Stopped Working, what DOES work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The reason I ask about this is that maybe some setting could be changed to make Internet Explorer work properly and not "stop working"...

A family member with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10 suddenly is unable to open IE either through the shortcut or directly on the iexplore.exe file; but on the other hand, no trouble occurs if IE is right-clicked and Run As Administrator.  So IE on the machine DOES work, but only if Run As Administrator.

I tried to help by looking in the Internet Explorer Properties  - Security tab on another machine to compare, but everything (except an extra user type, S-1-15-2-1,  on Win7 not shown on Win Vista) appears to be the same.

The windows Vista machine used for comparison has IE 9.  The Windows 7 machine on which "IE stopped working" happens is 64bit windows and there is installation of IE 10 in both the Program Files path AND the Program Files (x86) path.

The exact "error" message when IE stops is :

Internet Explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Hopefully someone knows about some setting or option that could be changed or checked so that the user or anyone else not need to Run As Administrator but may just double click the desktop icon as normal to run IE.

A:Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 stopped working

Go to Programs and Features > Left side, click View Installed Updates > scroll down to find Windows Internet Explorer 10 >
Right click at it > click Uninstall.
System will revert back to IE 9 automatically after IE 10 is uninstalled. Now Reboot the computer -

You don't need to re-install IE9, as it will be there.

Working on my mother's computer as a favor.  When launching Internet Explorer (version 11), it immediately crashes, giving "Internet Explorer has stopped working", without any cause or error notices.  I have made sure that there are no addons running, and reset the program/security settings.

I found that I can launch IE by running it as administrator, so I have limited ability to browse; naturally I don't want to run it as an admin all the time.

I ran an sfc /scannow and its log indicated that it could not restore C:\windows\SysWOW64\iesysprep.dll and that the archived version was also corrupt.  I am not certain whether this is the cause of the crashes, or a completely unrelated issue, but I see that you folks were able to help out someone with a problem similar to this part recently.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

There should be an option in the start menu to run Internet Explorer with Add-Ons disabled. Have you tried this? I would aslo recommend switching browsers if possible, try Firefox or Chrome.

Hello,
I have an HP running Windows Vista. Initially things were working just fine, but recently I have lost the ability to connect to the internet. I try to launch IE, but get the same error message. I've tried the reset button in Control Panel>Advanced Settings but it did not solve the problem.
I am not running OmniPage either, another problem I read about on other blogs.
Does anyone have some suggestions for things I might try to get IE to work again?
Thank you,

Keep getting this error message (attached) and now and then when I go to open a new window, only an upper piece of a window manages to open, like a slit or corner of the upper bar.

To fix, went to:

control panel > network & internet > internet options > advanced... tick "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" 1st selection
But now I still get the partial windows on opening them. What's the cause here?

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could help me?  I have been having a lot of issues with my computer and using the internet. I keep getting messages such as ‘windows explorer has stopped working ‘and ‘Host process for windows services stopped working’. Hi, i am hoping someone can offer me some advice.

I have a new laptop with windows 7 installed and Internet Explorer 9 being used.

I have checked various options thats other have posted but they do not appear to be resolving the problem.

Typical example f the problem....

I get an email with a link, click and the link opens within browser. If the link then has a document witin it to open (I think they are PDF'S) the browser comes up with the following message:

A problem caused prog to stop working - it then asks you to close the page.

I have tried resetting default settings i have tried No add ons and the problem still persists.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I can't give you advices, but i can just say that i have the exact same problem... i'm trying to get answers but so far, not helpfull...just want to let you know that your not alone.
Just tell me something... is all ok when you try to open videos in your WMP?
I?m asking that because in my case the same happens with other programs, specially audio and video an i?m trying to figure out if the to problems are related.

3 days ago I.E. ver. 8.0 decided to stop working after i downloaded "advanced search bar". every time i would try to use google search from my igoogle homepage i would get "internet explorer has stopped working" and " a problem caused the program to stop working correctly windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". after about 30 min. of this i figured i should delete the advanced searchbar, which i did. restart google, same problem. frustrated, i shut down the computer. next morning, my home page is gone and still getting the message and sometimes a blank white screen after a search.loading sites from "my favorites" was o.k and thats what i did to download firefox for internet. today i checked out windows "problem reports and solution" and found numerous APPCRASH and BEX. there was also a problem report - "problem with windows"and an update download which i tried. the DOS screen then came up and said c:\windows\system32\windowspowershell\v1.0\modules\psdiagnostics\psdiagnostics.psm cannot be loaded because the execution of scripts is disabled on this system, see get-help about signing. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. the only advantage is i tried firefox and love it. any help would GREATLY be appreciated. im running windows vista home premium 32 bit, I.E. ver 8.0

During the past few weeks I've been getting the pop up message "Internet Explorer has stopped working." Followed by "A problem has caused Internet Explorer to stop working. Windows will notify you if a solution is found." Immediately after this about 50% of the time the page I was on was able to recover. The other half of the time I'm directed back to the Google Homepage. I am using IE8 and never had a problem until this started. Would anyone have any suggestions for trouble shooting or a way to remedy this annoying problem?

Try clearing your cache files and run Malwarebytes and your resident antivirus. See if you can update to IE9 and check the difference.

My mom called tonight to say that their HP computer is having problems that started yesterday. When she clicks on IE8 she gets a message that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". She then gets an option to have it look for a solution online and when she picks that it all goes away. She can access her email and get updates in other programs.

I do not live close to them so driving over there is not an option. I can download items and mail USB drives to them or CD's if needed.

Did you keep your antivirus or other security suite package from before the upgrade?

You might think about uninstalling it if you did, to see if it has a positive effect.

It's the most likely cause, assuming the machine connects to the net well otherwise, with other programs.

Other than that, make sure there is no proxy being set in I.E.'s properties.

If you have Java installed on the machine, update it to latest.

As i was Searching Yahoo Yesterday, Internet explorer stopped working,

displaying that blank page with the "Cannot be displayed, check

connection" and such, for every page i go to. Internet explorer won't

open any web sites at all(all of a sudden), But MSN and AIM still work.

I can type with a friend, and they respond but internet doesnt work. So

i Figured "Hey, Restart it." NO! I restarted it, and now Not only does

internet explorer not work, but neither does MSN or AIM. I ping and I

get a 100% loss. I think it has something to do with corruption in my

registry, I make this assumtion because days prior every folder i

clicked no longer opened but instead searched (I fixed that though,

Thanks to Annoyances.org) But now I have no idea what to do. I heave

searched to the ends of the internet for help and to no avail. So I

come here to Pleade for your help.

Please Respond soon, it's my Birthday ;-;

I installed Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 and everytime I ran IE7 then started navigating through pages it would crash. Not every page would cause the crash but the pages that did crashed it every time.

It was a fresh install. No addons, no virus scan installed, no programs installed. I tried it before installing the drivers Vista could not identify (video and sound) and I tried it after installing the drivers so there were no unknowns in Device Manager. Either way the same result. I clicked the reset button on the advanced tab but that didn't resolve the problem. I installed Flash but that didn't resolve it. I modified the IE security settings, I turned off Protected mode, I turned off pop up blocker, all of these things did not stop IE7 from crashing with that error.

I installed Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 and have not seen this problem once.

My PC is an AMD dual core x64 proc, ATI Radeon card, the board has an ATI chipset, the SB600. I have 4 gigs of RAM. I don't know if any of that makes a differnece.

Anyone else have this problem and were able to resolve it?
Anyone have ideas as to what's causing it or have any questions for me?

Thanks,
John

Downloaded Microsoft updates today and now I'm getting a message that says "Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working currently. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.". However, it still shows that the home page has loaded behind the message window?!?!?

Hi all

I have a fairly new desktop PC I used my original windows 7 home edition as my operating system and updated to Internet Explorer 11.

Just lately I have been experiencing 'Internet Explorer has stopped working problems'. I went onto the Microsoft help site and followed a procedure which involved turning off all my start up programs with the exception of the Microsoft ones. When I tried to restart at the end of the procedure my PC froze.

It seems I have a problem more deep seated than the Explorer problem and could really do with some help.

Hoping for a reply soon.

Best Regards Ken.

Internet Explorer stopped working a few weeks ago on my home computer.  I can't give a ton of details because I don't use it, my wife does (I use Chrome).  When you try to open it, you get a spinning circle in the center of the screen for about 5 seconds, then that goes away.  That's it.  I've used CCleaner to clean all cache, temp files, etc for IE.    I've run virus scans, anti Malware scans, etc.  All come back clean.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit.

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Hello Micallen,

Have you installed the latest windows updates? If not, follow this link: http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5

You could also clean your browsers cache and cookies and see if that solves the issue: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/internet-explorer/ie-crashes-stops-working#ie=ie-11

Hope this helps!

I'm trying to start IE 8 and the error message Internet Explorer has stopped working appears followed by
A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Also, Firefox will not start. The message is Firefox can not find the server at xxxx no matter what address it tries to find.
I do not know if this is affecting the issues but, in Windows Defender, under "My Web Search Bar for Internet Explorer and Fire Fox" it is classified as "Not yet classifed"

Should I remove the My Web Search Bar in Safe Mode. It looks like there's many other unfriendlies on here also.
Thank you
