T580 with 40AH dock -- can I use three external displays?

Q: T580 with 40AH dock -- can I use three external displays?

I'm using the 40AH ("Pro") dock. I tried connecting a third monitor to a HDMI to DVI adapter, and plugging that into the side HDMI port. The laptop doesn't see this third display at all. Nothing there. I'm trying to determine if this is supported and maybe it's just that my adapter is bad.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: T580 with 40AH dock -- can I use three external displays?

Update:I just took the laptop off the dock and connected this monitor with the HDMI-DVI adapter and it worked that way. So I'm thinking that this dock (or laptop) just does not allow three external display this way.Is there some other way? Can I use a USB adapter?

We have several T580s and 40AH docking stations and all have worked fine, until today when the USB ports on one of the docks stopped working. The display and charging functions are working fine, it is ONLY the USB ports that are not. I tried the USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports and neither work. I can plug the mouse and keyboard into the laptop's USB ports and they work there. I also don't think it is the docking station itself - I moved the laptop to another 40AH dock and the exact same issue persists. If it is a hardware problem then it could be one of the connectors on the laptop - the docking station slides 3 connectors in from the left side when connected so it may be one of those.  I did install drivers and updates on the laptop yesterday, but the problem was not reported until mid-day today. I have fully updated the laptop with both Windows Update and Lenovo System Update. I can't find any firmware updates for the 40AH docking station, at least none that actually see the dock when run. Has anyone else had this issue? Everything is on warranty so I will be contacting Lenovo support soon, but I figured I would get this out there.

I have a ThinkPad T580 with the Ultra Dock (40AJ0135US) and I'm wanting to use two external 4k monitors. I found this post (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/How-many-DisplayPorts-are-available-on-t...) that seems to indicate that this cannot be done, but it doesn't make sense since the dock utilizes two USB-C connections from the T580. Can a DP and USB-C on the dock be used for two 4k monitors? Is there any combination of ports that would allow the dock to support two 4ks? Will Lenovo be releasing a monitor compatibility matrix soon for their new laptop lineup, like this one: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock ? I appreciate any help!

Does anyone know if the Latitude E7240 can support two external displays without a dock? Can you have one plugged in to the mini displayport and one in to HDMI and output just to these displays?
Or is it limited to just the laptop display and one single external display?
Thanks!

A:Latitude E7240 - Dual External Displays Without Dock?

Hi ag-asanchez,
The Latitude E7240 uses an Intel HD Graphics 4400 GPU and so can support up to 3 independent displays, not on dock. In order to use both the onboard screen and 2 external displays both the HDMI and MiniDisplayPort will need to be connected to external displays.
With the Intel Driver, 9.18.10.3204, installed and two external displays connected, the following option should enable 3 independent displays.

(from the notification panel)

Intel HD Control Panel >> Output to >> Extended DT (options here for clone or extended)

Intel HD 4400 Graphics Driver
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=183CP

Please see the following Intel guides for more information regarding a multiple display set up for the 4400 GPU.

Hey, I have a Lenovo p52s laptop with a built-in Intel HD graphics 620 and an NVIDIA P500 GPU.I am using a Thunderbolt 3 40AC USB-C docking station and have connected 3 external monitors (1xVGA, 1xHDMI, 1xDP).Currently, it seems onyl the Intel GPU is driving the monitors and so only 2 external monitors are working (the 3rd is recognized but not used).I'm trying to figure out how (if possible) to switch from the Intel to the NVIDIA GPU to drive the external monitors so I can get all 3 working as well as the built-in laptop display. I have windows 10 1803 installed and have installed Lenovo Vantage and all the updates (including the optional ones) it found.I updated to the latest (I think) BIOS version (N27ET34W 1.20, 27/02/2019) and can't find an option to use discrete graphics or any graphics options for choosing a GPU... Can anyone help with this? Previously I have a ThinkPad W541 with a docking station and an NVIDIA M1000 GPU and everything worked fine with 3 external displays connected to the docking station. Can anyone help please? Thanks! Tal

Hi!X1 Carbon 6th Gen, connected to two seperate (home/work) 40AH docks running different 4k monitors @ 60hz via DP has recently started to blank / lose sync to the connected external monitors after the recent firmware upgrade available via Lenovo Companion and matched here: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/options/n20pf03w.exe Prior to this firmware upgrade, both docks and their respective monitors were functioning entirely normally. The firmware has been pinpointed as the ugprade occured at work first (which started exhibiting the fault) whilst home was OK, then when the firmware was applied to home the fault began to occur. There seems to be no reason as to why the screen blanking occurs, the monitors exhibit symptoms of a cable being disconnected for a short period and then reconnected. I can only assume there is an issue with the firmware on the DP component on the docks. The OS does not seem to record any connected hardware change in logs (as if the dock was disconnected via power/data) rather it seems only the output of the dock to the monitors is faulting. All other system upgrades have been applied via Lenovo Companion and/or via the website drivers list. The fault seems to be exhibited during fast video / screen switching within the OS (Windows 10). Although most frequently during large excel documents (lots of horiztonal and vertical scrolling) Seeking assistance and/or the ability to downgrade the DP firmware on the docks to return... Hello,
I'm using a Latitude E7440 with a Dock and two monitors connected to it. (Both with DVI)
Sporadically (often already shortly after starting the laptop) one or both of the monitors are going black for about 5 and come back after.
I already tried several things to fix the issue but haven't been able to find a solution yet.

What I've tried so far:

Update to latest BIOS
Use different display driver
Used a different dock
Mainboard replacement
Installed latest MST HUB FIrmware
Disabled Display Port in the monitor settings
At this point I don't know what else to do to fix this issue and I'd really appreciate any help from others.

I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

First... long time T series user going back to the initial ones. Had been using a T520 up until I finally gave in and purchased a T580 over the BF in July sale. Since I have been using a dock for a long time and like the convenience factor I got the Pro Dock (40AH0135US) to go along with the T580. Long story short... the first T580 arrives with a blown system board. I send it back and 11 days later another T580 arrives. This one boots and has no issues off the dock. It's fast and definitely an upgrade from the T520. First thing I notice in placing it on the dock is that the side mount process is tedious. Reading other posts seems to confirm that experience. It's nowhere near as well engineered as the bottom dock solution and I spend more time trying to insert the dock mechanism than I ever had with the legacy dock solutions. I eventually get things perfectly aligned and power on. Right off the neither external monitor is working. I have two Dell UHD monitors connected to the DP's on the dock and neither comes on. I mess with the cables and nothing, I take the T580 off and re-insert... nothing. I call Lenovo and without even trying to diagnose the issue they issue an RMA for the dock. I get another dock 2 days later and this one works for exactly 1 day. The external monitors work and then 10 hours later when I come home from my job and place the T580 on the dock they don't work. Nothing changes but somehow things are back to not working again. To be clear at no point from powe... Read more

My thunderbolt 3 (135watt) dock will not charge my T580 intel core i7-8650 laptop while displaying on 2 monitors.  Tried only 1 monitor and still won't charge.  About 3 months ago first got a message that insufficient power to thunderbolt dock.  Warranty replaced the dock last week and still won't work.  I took the laptop to work since I have an identical rig and it charges and displays (only 1 monitor but will also charge an iphone).  I brought a new 135w charger home and that didnt help.  Also replaced little cord from thunderbolt to T580 and that didn't work.  I even tried a different outlet on a different circuit and that doesn't help.  Could it be that the i7-8650 needs the 230W thunderbolt?

(For those of you who have followed my previous threads, I've now ordered a T580 with 4k display). I'm looking for a T3 dock which can do the following on a T580. It would allow me to use just one cable to dock/undock it: 1) Attach a screen with a 2560x1440 resolution with 60Hz (digital connection)2) Attach a screen with a 1920x1200 resolution with 60Hz (digital or VGA connection)3) Full Ethernet port4) Charge the laptop (originally, it comes with a 45W power adaptor)5) Have at least 1 classic USB 3.0 port Unfortunately my budget is limited so that I can't go for the original Lenovo one. If there's a dock which can all the above except for attaching two screens, then this would be ok as well, for the time being (assuming I can run one screen via the dock, and the other screen directly from the HDMI of the T580). Then it would just be 2 cables for docking/undocking...

I got my new T580 today, and with it the Ultra Docking Station. It generally works fine except for some minor issues with my monitor still needing DVI, but that is easily solveable. The one big issue I have with it is my mouse:Moving it in circles shows freezes every few seconds, for up to a few seconds at a time! The mouse is practically unuseable as it is.It's a Logitech G500 mouse. Connecting it to one of the Laptops USB ports works makes it work just fine.Connecting one of our cheap default Microsoft mice to the dock also works just fine, but I'd really rather use my Logitech. I tried updating all the firmwares and drivers(OS in use is Windows 10 64bit), but nothing made any difference. The mouse is not only freezing, but judging by the constant device disconnect/connect sounds also completely reconnects every like 30-60 seconds. Using a USB event viewer confirmed that it is indeed the mouse being reconnected.

Hi Everyone, Having an issue I have 2 Dell u2414h and an Asus 28" VG278H looking to have all 3 connected to the dock but seems as though the workstation dock only supports a single DP 1.2 connection even though it has two and the thunderbolt port is non existant on the dock.  I'm looking to connect all 3 of my monitors to this dock any guidence on how I can go about this? the two dells have mini display port, Display port and HDMI the Asus has DVI, VGA and HDMI I tired to daisy chain the Dells but the screen just blinks on and off with the display. Can I use the thunderbolt 3 connection somehow? I wouldnt be oppesed to use a EGPU but I have not read anyone that has even tried an EGPU enclosure on the P50. Any help would be appriciated I've flashed the dock and p50 to the newest BIOS and updated all the drivers for the M2000m quadro as well.

A:3 displays with P50 and Workstation Dock

The dock is only limited in a single DP 1.2 bandwidth (there is a 'branching device' in nVidia topology), so it can drive 3 1080p monitors (2x digital + 1 VGA). Can get USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 => DisplayPort adapters to connect more monitors (e.g. http://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-USB-Type-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B0157RVTDW , although mine is yet to arrive).  There should be many more of these in 3-6 months, even Thunderbolt 3->Dual DisplayPort (each up to 4K @ 60Hz). Right now, however, selection is quite limited and Dell TB15 dock was reported to have issues with P50/P70. Perhaps resolved with the Thunderbolt software update already.

Hi all,I've read in the technical data sheet that this machine supports up to 3 displays. I know some dockingstations exist (TB3 and USB-C) but these are quite expensive and not sure if I really need all the other interfaces they bring with them ...So, I wonder if it is possible and how with simple connectors/adapters to connect 3 (or at least 2) external displays to the X380. I'm not using the internal display at all as the device is located in a small shelf. Here are my thoughts: I would use the HDMI directly to one of my external displays and in addition use adapters via USB-C and TB3, but I don't know how to reasonably mix all of these, e.g. 1 HDMI + 1 USB-C + 1 TB3 or 1 HDMI + 2 USB-C (which adapter?) or 1 HDMI + 2 TB3 (which adapter?) or 2 HDMI ... or ... or ...Did anyone find any information how this could be configured properly or made some experiences already? Thanks,Ronny.

Hi, There are a few posts along these lines but I cannot seem to find a definitive answer. So I have an X250 with a pro dock 40A1 and I want to get two VGA (interface, not resolution) monitors working with it. I have one running off the standard VGA connector on the back of the docking station, with the built in display as well. Ultimately I want to shut the laptop and just have my two 22 inch monitors running (it is set to not shut down if I close the lid). The ports that are left on the dock are the display port (DP) and DVI, I have read that the DVI and VGA cannot be used together but can the VGA or DP work simaltaneously? I have a DP to VGA cable and the monitor seems to detect something but the laptop does not, also when I unplug the VGA and have the laptop lid down the DP does not burst into life implying it is not working. If someone can categorically state that the VGA and DP can work togehter then it might be the DP to VGA cable. Any recommendations or definitive statements welcome. Regards Matt

T580 (fresh from factory).  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 driver (12/27/2017 - 23.20.16.4905).  Intel Core i7 vPro 8th Gen.  Windows 10 64 bit (freshly updated).  Lenovo Vantage system update freshly updated.  (today's date: 4/28/2018) LG display plugged into HDMI port on Thunderbolt adapter which is plugged into the USB-C port on left side.HP display plugged into HDMI port on right side. Either display is detected just fine if I unplug the other one; but when both are present, it only detects one of them. This exact configuration was working fine on my T470, Intel Core i5, vPro, 7th Gen. So, bigger and better (and more $$) is worse. My bet would be on a driver issue.  (Windows won't let me install the Intel April 2018 driver - it says probably because the manufacturer did custom driver coding.)

A:T580 Won't detect a second external monitor

UPDATE: Well, ok, it DOES appear to TRY to "detect" the display when I first plug it in.  But it has no properties (e.g., Resolution) and the #3 icon on the layout panel soon disappears and clicking the Detect button won't bring it back (unless I unplug my other monitor - then it detects fine and works fine).

Hi community, I've a very annoying problem with my X1 Yoga. I'm using the OneLink+ Dock at the office connected to two 27 inch displays. When setting up everything it worked pretty well. Yesterday i left my desk for a few minutes. All displays went to standby which is fine. When waking up the machine one external display stayed in standby mode. I tried everything I can think of:- disconnecting the display from power and reconnect it- disconnect the display port and reconnect it- change the display port cable (length should be no issue since it's 1m)- switching display ports at the dock between displays- removing the display in the device manger and detect it again- restart the computer- shutdown the computer, pull every power cable and put everything back together- change the OneLink+ Dock ... nothing helped. What's strange: the internal and the working external display are shown as "PnP-Monitor" and the display not working is shown as "Digital-Flatscreen (640x480 60Hz)" In the Intel HD Graphic application I can see the display but can't change anything about it. I can move it around from left to middle to right position and back. Still I can't change the resolution nor turn the display back on. Yesterday i changed the non-working display with another one of the same kind and it worked again. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have a problem regarding setting up 4k displays:Equipment: Thinkpad x1 carbon 2017 (5 gen) with wqhd, thunderbolt 3 dock, 2 4k samsung displayshttps://support.lenovo.com/de/en/solutions/pd029622This is my target setup:1. 4k display at 60 hz connected via dock at dp1 (display port)2. 4k display at 60 hz connected via dock at dp2(ideall: 3. x1 carbon wqhd internal display on) My problem is that the second 4k display (a Samsung TV) did not connect when I connected it via the dock (picture shortly present, then goes away again, when trying again no picture at all). However it works (all 3 displays on) when I connect 2. via the hdmi connector directly at the laptop. Hence: is there any way to get it working like in my target setup? Thank you very much for your suggestions and ideas!Besterev

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my ever annoying problem. I have a T450s running on Windows 10 64-Bit. Latest Intel Drivers. I have an 40A2 Lenovo Ultra Dock. The following configuration is coming out of the dock into the monitors. Channel 1 - DisplayPort (dock) to Mini-DVI (monitor 1)Channel 2 - using DVI (dock) to DisplayPort (monitor 2) Channel 2 is not outputting any video signal at all. Intel's software is not recognising another monitor at all. Their DisplayPort Topology is showing 1 DisplayPort (this could be because the other is not connected). I've tried both display ports and they both work on either channels. I will be bringing in a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable shortly to try, but shouldn't my DVI to DisplayPort. Something is amiss and it's driving me nuts. Thanks,Ron

Hey Lenovo Team, I have a T580 laptop connected to a Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra Pro docking station. There are two monitors connected via Displayport and a third (which is actually a projector) via HDMI. I read that if you were to use three external monitors on a docking station, that you need to get an Ultra Pro Docking station, but I didn't know if that meant three not including the external display. As of now, I can't get the extended desktop to display on the projector, unless one of the other monitors or the built-in monitor on the laptop gets disabled. On the Intel Display software, I am only given three monitors that I can configure, even though there are FOUR on the pull down list. In the Windows Screen Resolution settings, you can see there are four monitors detected, but the fourth one, you can't do anything with and it says it's not active. The graphics drivers software, BIOS, and Ultra Pro Docking station firmware are all up-to-date. I tried configuring the other monitors' resolutions as requested on the support site for resolutions/refresh rates supported (they are all 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz) and yet I still can't get the fourth monitor to work. I'm not sure if there's a BIOS setting that needs changing or what I need to do to get all the monitors to work or if, in fact, you can't get the three external monitors plus the internal laptop monitor to work.Could someone provide some assistance or suggestions to get the monitors working? That would be appreciated!

Ok.. I'll try to keep this breif. I bought this laptop SPECIFICALLY for the capability to run 2 external monitors via Thunderbolt 3. I have spent thousands of dollars on the laptop, monitors, and cables and put hours of research into making sure everything was compatible and it won't work.  My setup is as follows: Thinkpad T580 with TB3 portTB3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter(x2)Monitors are both 32" Samsung 1080P monitors at 60hz (NOT 4k) Here's what I have done: Updated display drivers directly from Intel(newer than Lenovo provides)Updated BIOSUpdated FirmwareBought MULTIPLE adapters thinking it was possible an adapter problem.Bought MULTIPLE cables thinking it could be a cable problemI called Lenovo tech support and, after 10 minutes of convincing the tech that my laptop even has a TB3 port he obviously was unable to resolve it so I was mailed a new motherboard and a tech came to my house and swapped the board out. Same issue.  The laptop detects only ONE monitor at a time. If I plug them both in to the displayport adapter, one of them will work, the other will say it's not connected. If I unplug the monitor that is on, the previously undetected monitor will immediately be detected and turn on.  If I plug the undetected monitor into the HDMI slot it will detect and output. But this is NOT the functionality that I have spent thousands of dollars for.   I am out of ideas and now quite sure that, even though the marketin... Read more

I have two displays connected to the laptop (one to the native HDMI and one to the docking station). In effect, I am able to drive three displays (Laptop display, native HDMI, and DP from WD15). I wanted to connect one more display to drive four display?

When I connect the fourth display it's not showing up in the detected displays list.
How can I do this? Is it possible?

A:How to drive four displays from DELL Precision 5520 with Dell Dock WD15 and native ports??

It's not going to be possible without some other type of hardware purchase - no.  The internal GPU cannot drive four displays at a time.

I have one of these drive docks (the station 2)

http://194.150.201.35/cnmlifestyle/hdds.htm

I have disk which already has information on. Connecting this disc directly to the motherboard SATA connector allows me to see the disks contents. However connecting the disk via the dock just gives a "removable media" icon, which when clicked says please insert drive.

Drive is a 1TB Samsung HD103UJ if that makes a difference

How do I get the drive to work when docked ?

Any help appreciated
