I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, Two weeks after my one year warranty was up my laptop started shutting off when the battery was around 30-40%.  I checked the battery using the HP Support Assistant Diagnostic Check and it continues to say the "Primary battery is OK."  I've also noticed that since this started happening the battery won't fully charge.  It only charges to 90-94% then shows "94% available (plugged in, not charging)."  I used to unplug the battery until the battery saver (set at 20%) would turn on then I'd fully charge it and repeat.   I use my laptop for work so I'm usually plugged in 8-14 hours a day for five days a week.  I shut it off every night as well.  Am I missing something or is this the battery life I should get?  Did I use it too much?  I purposefully got a long life battery because for work. I found the article below which sounds similar to my situation and wanted to ask anyway. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Pavilion-15-notebook-sudden... This is my first HP and I didn't have battery issues like this with any previous laptop doing the same amount of work/usage for at least 2+ years.  Is this the way HP's are?  Am I supposed to expect this type of performance out of my laptop? Thanks for any help/suggestions/words of wisdom.

Notebook batteri is finished. After some secs the display turns off (notebook
is connected to kabel power).
If the display is closed down, and opened again, the display turns on again
for some secs, and turns off again.
Hitting the batteri icon, which is always red crossed, windows prompts
that batteri has low performance and the computer may shut down anytime.
But the computer doesn't shut down, the display turns off.
Running the computer without the batteri doesn't work, the above happens.
Q: Is there a way to set windows 7 to ignore the defect batteri, and run
on wired power?

Thanks.

A:notebook, broken battery, display turns off

Remove the battery, & use mains power only.

Hello, For 2-3 weeks my laptop has been turning off with 30-50% battery left.  As soon as it is plugged in, I have no problems. While attempting to turn the computer back on (before I plug it in) the computer usually shuts down before I get to the login screen.  On a few occasions, however, I have succesfully logged in and started my web browser before it shuts down again.  Every time that my computer dips into this margin, it kills all proccesses (unexpected shutdown).  I have tried different power options, but they just delay how long the battery stays above 30-50%. I do not know of any other details.    Thanks for readingIsenfireLDC

Hi guys,The issue is it turns on itself when i open the lid and then turns off after 3-5 seconds (like when you long press the power button). But if i close the lid before this 3-5 sec, it remains on and boots up normally till the login page. Its the same thing happening on battery and on plugged in mode. and somtimes that's what happen When I press the power on button it turns on and then goes off immediately. When I pressed the button again, it did not react. So I left it for a while without touching it.After that when I pressed again the power on button, it turned on and went off like the first instance.I opened it and performed some checks.Power cord is fully working, The DC jack is also working, Power button does not have a problemKindly help solve this problem

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the power management on my T570. I have two batteries, and I think the main one to be used is the battery 2. Sometimes, I'll be working unplugged, and my computer randomly turns off. Not the usual "Windows turning off" sequence, but an immediate blackout with no feedback. When I turn the computer back on, I see that Battery 2 is at 0% and Battery 1 is now in use. It does seem to be a problem in the power management, no? Thank you,Fred

A:My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Sounds like power management or battery reporting status wrong.  Are you still under warranty? If yes, call support first.  Can you get (borrow) another battery to try?

Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

I have just purchased an x1 carbon i7 5th Generation. I am experiencing a strange issue.Laptop will not switch on if on Battery although the battery is 100% charged. You need to plug the power on and then the power button will respond. You can remove then the power source (USB C) and the laptop responds fine to restarts etc on Battery and can start up again. As long as you leave the laptop for more than 10 mins powered off (not plugged in) then the power button will not respond again.Tried holding the power button in for hard reset or pressing the reset button under the laptop with no Luck. The only way to get the laptop back to life is to connect it to the power adapter and then Power Button will respond fine and you can work on battery. I have done all the latest updates, bios, drivers etc... but still no luck. Since the laptop is only 1 day old... unless a solution from this group I will be returning it to the supplier on Monday Morning. Thanks

My wife has a two-year-old Samsung notebook. Recently when she unplugged it the machine cut off, even though the battery said 79% charged (it wouldn't charge any further). I figured that the battery was bad so I bought another one from Amazon.

This one charges to 100% percent and does exactly the same thing. I'm perplexed but think there's something going on with the motherboard that won't let it use battery juice, even if Windows 8.1 says it's 100% charged.

I've tried the hold the power button down for 1 min with the battery out trick to no avail.

Any ideas? I'm stumped and think I might need to get her another notebook.

Thanks, Robert

Hello

Ive got new notebook Acer e15 571g, i recently added 4gb ram into it, and it was pain to do.

I was playing game few minutes ago and my pc just turned off. He was turned on for 30hours by that time. It wasnt so hot, im using cooler pad.

How can i know what caused this? Could it be the new ram or did i damaged something in it while adding that ram? I also overclocked my gpu, but for now i reverted it and gonna play some more to test it.

It was running without problems before adding that ram.

Thanks

When you added the RAM, did you take off the access panel and make sure that it was seated properly? Also have you made sure that the battery is also properly seated?

You did not take off the bottom cover at anytime did you? Also where did you purchase the RAM at?

The only way to stop it going off is if i keep the charger plugged in.It's only recently started doing it.I was thinking it could be either a faulty battery or over heating. But surely if it's over heating it would go off even if the chager was in.I'm tempted to get  a new battery but don't want to just incase that isn't the fault?Hoping someone more knowledgable can help? Many ThanksDavid Weeks

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 notebook running Windows XP Media Center. I recently been having a problem with it. It seems when I move, bump, vibrate (not intentional, but like vibrating it when typing on it on a soft surface like a bed) the notebook turns off instantly. I am using the AC power adapter. The battery died a while a go and I did not replace it, so there is no backup power. I checked the battery and the floppy drive to make sure they are fitting securely in the notebook and they're. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the power source. Any insight on trooubleshooting this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m notebook that is about 4 years old. I have a Samsung flat panel monitor that I plug in to the notebook, and I had the screens set up side by side I (not sure if this has anything to do with the problem, but who knows).

About three months ago, I noticed that when I would turn my computer on, my notebook monitor had a red tinge to it that would eventually go away after a few minutes. After about a week of this, the monitor started to make a high-pitched hissing sound, and then went black. There were extremely faint shadows of the screen showing, but almost impossible to see. Now, when I turn my computer on, the monitor turns on with the deep red tinge, makes the hissing sound for about 10 seconds, and then goes black.

It seems to me that the monitor is probably fried and needs to be replaced, unless there's some magical fix to this problem. I don't know how much it costs to replace a laptop monitor, and I was wondering if it's even worth replacing on a four year old machine.

My monitor/video card is ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000. I'm not too good with components, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

A:Dell Notebook Monitor Turns Red and Goes Out

It's the backlight that's going out. It could be caused by a bad backlight inverter. This is a small circuit board, often right near or attached to the LCD panel that takes DC and transforms it to high-voltage AC to power the backlight, which is a very small fluorescent tube.

The backlight inverter is not too difficult to replace. The backlight itself could be, usually is.

My computer goes black at seemingly random points during gaming.

I checked to see if it was overheating with a log post (that exceeds the limit of .txt-files, thus I cannot attach it). As far as I can see there is no problem there. My best guess would be the graphic card driver, but updating them seemed to have no effect last time I did it (just got back from vacation, updating again as I post).

Notebook Turns off during Windows install

Hi. I have a Samsung NP-X50 notebook.

After a nasty chinese speaking malware attack, I've had to reinstall Windows.

Everything was fine untill I tried. When the XP recovery CD boots, it gets to the "Setup is starting windows" bit (before the format and file copy) then the notebook just turns off.. no beeps, no warning, nothing.

I had it turned off for about 30 mins and tried again a few times. Now it gets to the file copy stage and at anywhere between 6% and 20% copied, then it just turns off.

So far, I've tested the RAM (2 x 512) no issue. Tested the Fujitsu SATA HDD with the Fujitsu HDD Tools.. no issue. Have done a successful full format, no issues. I even FDISK \MBR and formatted again (Just in case of MBR malware. No issues. The 16 MB recovery partition is still intact.

I can run a utility boot disk with no problems. It will run for hours and not turn off. I can also run a mini XP environment for testing with no issues. Indeed, the previous installation of Windows was running just fine save for some annoyances created by the malware... and that was only yesterday.

After it had been off for a few hours, I tried again. This time it went all the way to 99% Windows files copied during the installation process... then simply turned off!

I'm thinking it may be a heat issue.. something getting hot and failing.

I wanted to take the thing apart and give it a good clean (dust etc). Have taken all the scr... Read more

Okay, so my laptop has been messing up for the past few hours. First, I was playing Team Fortress 2 and it just randomly closed the game, and then froze up. Then when I reset it, it was in 1600X1200 resolution(it had been in 1920X1200 before) and it wouldn't let me change it.

I ended up fooling around with the computer a bit to see what would fix it, and if it didn't work I simply changed it back. One of the times, however, I went to Display Properties/Settings/Advanced and eventually found options for the driver(I'm not sure what they were because my memory isn't perfect and my desktop doesn't have the same options). Under these options, there was something where it gave me the choice between like 5 different options and I chose automatic. That's about as descriptive as I can get. I also changed the amount of memory given to my video card from 1.6 GB to 2.5 but it said the max was 3.3(I did this to fix the game problem, not the screen). After that I reset it to see if the screen was still messed up but it never started up again. It got to the windows logo, let it load, then went black. Apparently windows is running properly though. I unplugged my headphones and realized that the sounds were still working afterward. It made the startup sound, the hardware-unplugged sound, and the sound it makes when a notification bubble pops up.Did I trigger this by messing around with it? How do I fix it? I already tried safe mode, and going back to most recent settings. Neither worked. ... Read more

Nvidia was set to 60 Hertz
Sony was 60
but Windows was 59.

Screen Resolution - Advanced Settings - changed that to 60 and so far all is well.

Hope this helps someone else.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX Notebook PC and lately I have been having problems with the computer. When I turn it on the screen is blank, and it seems like it doesn't log into Windows (because when it goes into Windows it usually makes the welcome noise) the Capslock light flashes, the CD drive works, the wireless light is red, on the left side in one of the USB ports it has a small light that flickers a bit and then stops after I turn on the computer. The laptop battery works, the AC adapter works (the light where the adapter connects to turns on when I connect it), I tried doing the thing where you take out the battery and disconnect the adapter and turn on the So everything works except the screen is blank, I connected another monitor to see if it's the GPU that's bad or my laptop's monitor, but my other computer's monitor doesn't detect anything which leads me to believe it's not my laptop's screen but something else. Here's the other thing though sometimes when I turn on the laptop the screen does show up and everything goes in like normal (the orange screen with the COMPAQ logo comes up, the Windows logo, etc...) but when I turn it off and then try to turn it back again the screen is blank, and I turn it off and on again several times until the computer decides to work normally. Right now I'm in my CQ56-115DX Notebook PC and I haven't really done anything to it and I am afraid to turn it off again because I feel like it's not going to work anymore (especially sin... I have quite a few problems with my laptop that have been happening since day 1. My laptop screen constantly turns black at night -- this happens while the power supply is plugged in and when it is now. The notebook will be on but the screen will turn black randomly and then come back on at random times. It is very frustrating when working on a project. Also, the screen will just start blinking hysterically. THis happens whether the touchscreen is on or off and whether the bluetooth is on or off. At times, it will just freeze when I am trying to log back in. It will keep spinning and never log back in. I really need help with this issue as I've tried everything. I am in the IT industry so I have a great deal of knowledge with technology. I just can't deal with the screen randomly turning black and hysterically blinking. Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix the issue? Thank you.

I turned on my brand new HP Envy x360 Notebook last night. It asked me for a Microsoft id, password and pin. I did all that and entered it into my Envy. I then turned off the WIFI and turned off the notebook and went to bed. Today I turned on the notebook and the screen lit up nicely. The screen asked me to type in my Microsoft pin. I did and a mesage came up that says "Your device is offline. Sign in with the last password used on this device." I hit okay. Then the screen asks me for the pin again. It won't accept a password. It wants a numerical pin. It won't accept my pin or open the computer. What do I do?

Hi, My suggestion: use a different computer to reset Microsoft password to logon to new computer online and leave it for a while before turn it off.     https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/12429/microsoft-account-sign-in-cant Note: Normally new computers can take up to 2 hours to update. Regards.

A:MY HDD is full and my notebook is new!! what can i do!!

Hi Kary,

Run this portable program (no need to install) to see what file is taking up your resources.

It's likely to be a log file of some kind, if you're sure it's not data put there by you.

EDIT: When you find the culprit file/s, we can advise what to do with it. i.e. If it's a log and you delete it, the problem is likely to reoccur.

I been recently having this problem where my battery run low and instead of warning me it turns off. What should i do ?

A:No Low battery warning, Just turns off.

Replace the battery. They don't last forever and this is what happens when they die.

I strongly recommend getting the OEM battery and not a cheap chinese knockoff. I never take chances with ink/toner and batteries. The real deal or nothing.

So HP laptops have a tendency of overheating... and when they do, they power off immediately. This is NOT that issue. When I'm working solely on my battery (no AC charger) My laptop will turn off in maybe 45 minutes... I keep an eye on the battery level and it never drops to below 20% when this occurs. The laptop isn't burning hot and no error/warning messages are displayed (and no beeps).... Just poof power off. Ive downloaded the newest HP support assistant and ran the battery test and it said it was fine.I've tried to the manual calibration (since Support assistant isn't giving me the option to calibrate it) where I do the diagnostic logic (F2) and run the Hard Drive test on Battery until the laptop dies... Plugged in the charger and restarted.. what do you know, battery was at 40%... on the battery battery level button is showing half-charge.... So what do I do when the laptop is saying battery is good - not replace... How do I force that calibration? Something is wrong in that the power is dying half-way through the power cycle. Apprecaite any advice!

HiRecently upgraded to Windows 10 and I have an issue that when not using the AC adaptor and running on the battery the laptop shuts down randomly and not cleanly. I cannot get it to stay on for more than 5 minutes at a time and often it switches off as soon as I sign in. When using the AC adaptor I have no issues at all. Grateful for any ideas, otherwise I am going to try a fresh install. Thanks

Hello, this is my first time I come on the Techspot forums. So please don't bash/flame/rant on me for no reason because I forgot something. (Bad experience with gaming forums hehe)

So, I got the following question.

Is it possible to use my notebook as monitor for my PS3?

I got a "Sony VAIO - VGN-AR71S"
Full HD Entertainment Notebook
(1080p & Blu-ray reading 'n writing)

For specific things please check my link -
Just check "VGN-AR71S" in google, since I can't post images or links yet (1st post)

I do have an HDMI cable which fits in the HDMI Output.
But I guess I need an input If I want to use my laptop as monitor.

Anyways,

Can someone give me some information or help what I might do?
If it's not possible, it's ok, but I just want to play PS3 on my laptop

My husband and I cannot figure out why! Any help? I ran the program suggested to someone else & uploaded the text file.

A:My C drive is almost full on my HP Notebook!

VSS is not using any disk space at all, according to the tool you ran. You might want to consider something a little easier to use/read - Spacemonger. Click the "Free Software" tab and download "SpaceMonger 1.4.0". You should be able to run that and get a nice graphical overview of the disk contents and where your space is used the most (note it's a little flaky on Win7 - it does crash from time to time. Simply run it again if it does and it should work fine).

I have a bit of a problem. Somehow when doing backup, the backup went to the HP Recovery (D) instead of my DVD Drive and now the Recovery Drive is showing a RED LINE under it. How can I access the Recovery drive to remove the files that where added to it? I keep getting messages that the drive is locked and I need to get past that. If I loose the information on it, so be it but I would like to try to remove the excess files first. I posted the problem on the HP Forums which helped me some but then left me hanging.

Here is a posting that I have on the HP Forums website and how far it has taken me:

Try doing a System Restore to a point prior to the backup.
