Windows not detecting input from headset

Q: Windows not detecting input from headset

Windows will happily output sound to my headset but there is no input from the mic. I have a xonar dg as my soundcard.

The headset mic has been tested on a laptop and works
The microphone mute button the the headset cable is set correctly
The jack is correctly in
On plugging in (and fiddling with the jack) the mic I can see noise in CP/Sound window
It has been tested on the front panel, the soundcard jack & motherboard jacks
Drivers have been wiped and reinstalled
System restores had no effect
A reinstallation of windows keeping programs & settings had no effect
The mic is not muted or set too low in Control Panel / Sound
The mic in my webcam works correctly (USB)
Connections inside the case are not loose
Toggling the front mic option in Cp/Sound/Recording/(the mic)/properties/custom has no effect
I also managed to get the mic to work (badly) for a few seconds after windows reinstalled. After I plugged in the headphone jack, the mic went dead and hasn't recovered since.

The mic has worked on this PC before, it seems some setting / software / driver is mucking up.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I noticed the sound card can only handle up to 48KHz/24-bit recording. However the CP sound options would let me set it above this. Lowering it to the acceptable level made no difference.

A:Windows not Detecting Headset

From what I see this has the two 3.5mm plugs and also a USB. I can't find out if the USB is just for the lights or if it is used for anything else in the headset. But, make sure you plug in everything.

As you have a Dell, and are you using the built in sound device? or have you added a separate sound card? If you added a separate sound card, you need to connect the front panel to the new sound card.

If you are using the built in sound device, try connecting the headset and mic to the rear connectors (Green and Pink) and see if it works there.

i've been having this issue for a while now, my headset hasn't been detecting. it is connected via the 3.5mm headphone jack. this is a problem i've had with every pair of headphones/headsets i've tried, so it isn't an issue with the model. the only reason i haven't noticed this issue until as of recent is because i've had a USB connected headset. now that i need to use the 3.5mm jack, nothing is detecting. i've tried to fix this issue, and all that has happened is that my headset shows up as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)", and will not register my microphone. any help?
note that these three screenshots are taken whilst the headset is plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack (the only connector that came with the headset)

Alright so I have a BRAND new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7, it's model # is VPCCW21FX. I got it only a week ago.
I play games so I connect with Ventrilo, but with this laptop it is not detecting my headset. It's a standard Logitech headset that connects through those pink and green jacks on the side of my laptop. It only recognizes the laptop's built-in microphone, however. This is what I've tried to get my headset's mic to work:

1. Disabling the built-in microphone. The laptop still did not recognize that I had a separate microphone plugged in through the jack.

2. Updating sound card's driver / rollback to previous, to see if it might work. It did not.

3. I tried to use the Ease of Access -> Install new microphone. The laptop would only still detect the built-in microphone, not the one that was plugged in through the jack.

I know it's not the headset's fault because it was working perfectly fine in another computer just this morning, and I tested it on my brother's computer a few minutes ago. His computer detects my headset. Yes I have the plugs in the correct holes, and no there are no drivers since this isn't a USB headset. The laptop KNOWS that something is plugged into the mic jack because it mutes the laptop's built-in microphone once there's something in it, but no sound is detected.

As you can see from the image, the Realtek microphone is the built-in one. My headset is currently plugged in, but ... Read more

Hi, I recently bought a new headset due to one of the ears falling apart...

My old one was USB with a 3.5mm cable and worked perfectly fine. The new one I got has no USB and uses the green and pink cables. I've plugged them in and it seemed as if they were working well but I realised they're not actually picking up the sound from the microphone, they're playing my computers sounds.

I looked through other forums and found people saying that it may be a driver issue, so I updated and got the Realtek HD, which then showed the Stereo Mix in my devices. Basically what's happening is that Stereo Mix and Microphone are both playing volume at the same level and acting as if they're the same. I've tried disabling Stereo and keeping Mic but it still plays the computers sounds. I've tried vice-versa too. The "Speakers" device is also playing at the same level of volume.

And then obviously since it's doing that, it's playing my computer sounds through Skype.

Basically what I want to achieve is have the headset playing sound but also be able to speak through skype without it playing the sounds I have on.

Also, there's a little switch on the cable to act as a "Mic Mute" switch, if the Mic is ON then the sound is fine, if I switch it to OFF the sound is very echo'd and distant.

A:New Headset, not detecting microphone.

First, stereo mix should be set as the default recording device. Then any input device that is used will be heard.

As Windows only allows one default audio playback device, separating sounds or what's heard may not be possible or is an option of the application program. I'm not familiar with Skype so I don't know what the options are or do.

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right subforum, wasn't sure if this belongs here or to Soundcard/Hardware. If yes, please move. :)

Since a few weeks I have had problems with my microphones and the front panel (with sound & usb) of my PC fried itself. To remedy that I bought a USB soundcard adapter (see here). I have connected this to my PC and tried both a normal headset and a iPhone headphones (both of which work on a different PC/laptop). When trying them on this PC, while normal sound works, there's no voice input.

Here's some more info:

- I use Windows 7
- I disconnected all other audio hardware in device manager, the only thing left in "Recording Devices" is the USB-connected device
- In the "recording tab" the bars stay gray and don't change/turn green when I speak into the microphone
- I have checked the settings of the microphone, volume is at 100 and not muted

At this point I am not sure what else I can do and haven't found anything useful from Google. Would really appreciate if anyone can advice.

Thanks!

Why did you do that? That was unnecessary.
What is the make and model# of the USB Sound adapter?
Have you gone to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and updated the driver for the device?
Have you tried this USB device on any other computer? Does the Mic work on any other computer thru the USB Device?
If the Red/Pink input on the motherboard fried out on both the front and the back panel? If the back panel still works, can you use that?
The Front panel of the desktop computer is connected inside the computer by a cable to the motherboard, the Back panel is soldered directly to the motherboard. Open the case of the computer and follow the front panels cable to the motherboard and make sure it is plugged in tightly to the motherboard.

I have a new headset that has a single black cable, my laptop also has only one black audio port. However when it's plugged in, only the headset works and it uses my internal mic. I have check the recording devices when i plug it in and it detects no new devices.

Would a third party audio manager solve this problem?

A:Single input headset mic not working

I found 2 possible solutions depending on what the sound chip is.

1. Try going into Control Panel and selecting SmartAudio if you have it. Go to Audio Director and choose Multi-Stream. This enables the 2-in-1 jack socket to be for both microphone and speakers. You may still have to go to Manage Audio Devices in Control Panel to select your defaults i.e. turn off the on-board laptop microphone etc.

(I don't have Smart Audio in my Control Panel).

2. 1)Control Panel
2)Realtek HD Audio Manager
3)To the right click the black circle
4)select Headset
That worked for me you might have to go into the mic tab and click the circle again but i kept doing that and it finally worked.

(I do have Realtek HD Audio Manager but I don't own a headset/mic single cord to test this.)

I currently have a Sennheiser PC 360 that I used on a previous build, which I paired with a ASUS Xonar D1 sound card on Windows 7. I recently put together a new build using Windows 8.1 and now the mic no longer works. I receive audio output through the headset speakers just fine, but the mic acts as if it's muted.

I assumed it would be the sound card, so I tried using the motherboard jacks. Again, the headset speakers work just fine but no input is received through the mic. Windows does acknowledge when the mic is plugged/unplugged, if that helps at all.

I tried uninstalling the drivers and letting Windows install the drivers, as well as Windows Troubleshooting (Mic not working on computer Windows 8.1?) to no avail. As far as I know, the drivers are also up to date.

Recording Devices, all devices shows (including disabled). Mic is currently plugged into the Xonar D1 sounds card ports. Notice that the input bars do not recognize any transmission (mic is not muted).
In case it was a sound card issue, I used the motherboard integrated sound, using the latest Realtek drivers. Windows recognizes when the mic is plugged in and when it isn't, but like with the sound card, no transmission is recognized either way.

I tried messing with a few options, and I noticed the mic "transmitted" when I enabled the 'Monitoring' option. The mic now appears to transmit, but it's just high pitched feedback-like sound. Nothing I say through the mic is actually tr... Read more

A:Headset microphone recognized but not receiving input

It sounds like a potential problem with the headset and the 5VDC that is required by the microphone to work.

Do you have access to another PC, even a friend's, that you can try the mic on, to make sure its still working.

A side note, although I don't think it will help your current mic problem. The Stereo Mix is normally set at the Default Recording device. With Stereo Mix set any input device that is connected and used will be heard (used by programs). You also need Stereo Mix if you ever want to record audio (music) from the Internet.

I'm attempting to record some video game footage for fun using Fraps but I have a serious problem with my headset.  I've disabled every audio input device except for my headset, which is a Logitech set (I don't know which.  I doesn't have a model number on it, but it's one of the fancier ones with the mute switch on the mic). My problem is that when I record the game, my voice is just completely out blasting the game and I can't get the game volume high enought to compete with it.  The Fraps sound is maxed.

I discovered the problem to be the fact that lowering the volume slider on the mic doesn't affect the volume input of the mic for some reason.  Even when I set the volume slider of the mic to 0, the mic still stays at the same volume.  When I test it on the device screen, it will indeed show no voice coming through.  None of the bars will light up on the bar scale, but when I go back into the game and start playing again, it will record my voice blasting over the game audio as if I hadn't even touched that volume slider.

All other recording devices on the computer are disabled so it's not a case of another device piggybacking off of this one.  Is there some other setting that I'm missing that makes the microphone ignore the volume slider?  I've been an electronic musician for years using my computer for audio recording and I've never seen an issue like this.  My only thought is that there's something in... Hello, I am using a Lenovo Edge 2-1580. I want to use a Logitech G230 headset with it; since it has two plugs (one for microphone and the other for audio output), I am using a Headset Buddy adapter with it. The adapter is plugged into the combo headset jack on the left side of my laptop. The sound coming from the headphones is fine. However, the microphone input is dreadfully quiet. I tested it by fiddling with the mic with my fingers, which should produce a loud, static-y sound, but I only get a faint rustle. In the Control Panel, I tried going to Properties on the Microphone Array to turn up the volume and Microphone Boost to the maximum setting (+10.0 dB. I've seen people get it higher in videos, but I can't seem to do that) and turning all Enhancements. Even still, I have barely any audio input from the microphone. Where is the problem? (in software, the headset, the adapter, the laptop, in the Control Panel, etc.)How do I make the microphone input louder if everything is already set to the maximum setting?Do I need any new hardware/accessories?Should the Control Panel state that the audio input device is a Microphone Array? If I'm using a headset, should it say something else?Would a different headset, say Logitech G430, work better? Thank you!

Hello

So three days ago I wiped all of my drives and installed Windows 10. I have a Corsair Vengenace 2100 headset. I installed the realtek drivers from ASUS download section for my motherboard and then I installed the headset drivers.

The problem is that my headset does not record anything through the microphone if I set it to be the default device for audio output. If I have my other computer speakers as the default output device my microphone works just fine.

This goes for all the USBs in the back of the motherboard. The headset works just great if I plug in the wireless reciever in the front of the computer.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and checked a bunch of different settings in the sound manager in windows but nothing seems to work.

Have also googled all kinds of things but nothing seems to relate to my problem.

I do not have any external sound card plugged into my computer.

Thanks for any help provided!

EDIT: Can be closed as I found the win 10 forum after I made the thread. Sorry!

Hey,

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

Thank you

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

After I hit any key, the mouse freezes as well. This happens if I use the laptop keyboard or an external keyboard connected to a PS2 jack.

I have performed hours of troubleshooting and it is not the keyboard hardware. Keyboard input works during all non-graphical UI (BIOS, Recovery Console, etc.). I even removed the drive and plugged it in to another computer. As you are unable to see the display properly at this time you will need to follow the process described for "Entering Safe Mode without access to Startup Settings".  If you are able to get in, then make the needed adjustments to your display settings, then restart your system normally to see if the display will come up properly. If not try a different screen resolution. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi,
Sorry for the silly question, but I am really lost with Windows 8. Did a quick search, but nothing came up (Keyword will only result in how to set input in Win8, not the problem presented here).

Here is the issue.

The short version of the question is how do I move the #@#[email protected]%$#^%$ (display gibberish somehow, boxed in red below) input method above Microsoft Pinyin, while keeping English as my default Display language and Input language.
Longer version here:
I use English and Chinese input, but the default MS Chinese input is "inconvenient", so I installed another input software for Chinese input (the gibberish above, or lets call it method ABCD).
The order I want is English as my default Input method and display, while ABCD as my default Chinese input (when I hit Alt + Shift, should switch from English to ABCD). However, since I can't get ABCD above MS-PinYing, when I Alt+Shift it auto switch to MS-Pinyin, not ABCD (Manually switch from MS to ABCD gets annoying).
In WinXp/Win7 I only need to manually switch to ABCD once, and the system remembers it, but Win8 for some reason automotcally load the language list on every start up =/
Also in WinXp/Win7, I can delete MS-PinYin while keeping ABCD (so I only have English and ABCD), but Win8 doesn't allow me to do that as I must have MS-input or the second line (highlight in green) in language perference doesn't even appear.
There are some additional points/details.
1 - I must set Chinese as "Language for non-... Read more

Hello, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

I can't help you with your specific problem but you may want to look here. Hope it helps.

Under Chinese Input Methods it says to use the Windows key and space bar to easily switch between language inputs.

Hey all, I've been having this issue for a while in OneNote and Drawboard (because it happens in these 2 applications I believe it's a platform=laptop issue and not applications):1. I put annotations on top of PDF printouts in OneNote and in Drawboard PDF using my pen in tablet-like keyboard position2. Right after that touch input stops working for a while, as if it was not touch-enabled device. After 5-15 secs it comes back to life3. This issue does not reproduce when keyboard is in laptop position Has anyone had a similar issue on the same laptop/other Lenovo laptops? My system is a BestBuy-specific sister version of Yoga 14". Thanks,Danil

I have an A530 that will not connect when using the PC input, but the HDMI out port works fine.  So I attempted to connect to an external monitor and it worked.  So I know the actual HDD is working and that the computer is running properly. I then took an HDMI cable and ran it from the HDMI out port to the HDMI in port and the screen is now receiving the signal from the PC. So now I know both the PC and the A530 screen are working. The PC is out of warranty. Any idea why this is happening?  I currently have an HDMI cable connecting the in/out ports and the computer works, but I'd like to go back to it just using the pc and have an available HDMI port.

Windows automatically updated last night before shutting down. When I turned on the computer this morning, the HP w2207h monitor was not functioning properly. Each time I rebooted, I received the message "HDMI Input: No Input Signal" before the monitor went to sleep.

I do not believe it is a problem with the sleep and display settings as I have dual monitors and the EN9910 is functioning properly; both are set to NEVER anyway. Further, I have plugged our SONY television into the HDMI port and it works just fine.

I have also plugged the monitor into another computer, using the same cable, and both worked just fine. The hp monitor also functions in the utility mode. Problem seems to exist only when Starting Windows.

This has happened once before with a Windows Update, but I don't recall the solution.

Please help.

Thanks.

A:HDMI Input: No Input Signal -- Monitor Going to Sleep

Hello and welcome aspen can you just make sure the driver for that monitor is ok.

Software & Driver Downloads HP w2207h 22 inch LCD Monitor | HP? Support

But mate I also think you may have answered it yourself in another way. Can you remember when this started happening? If so system restore back to before that date.

Then it is just a matter of downloading any updates if this is what is - one or two at a time until you find which one is the culprit. Make a not of that one and each time it comes up untick it to download / install.

So my Laptop does accept HDMI as Input to. But i dont know about any program, that can watch what is being put in. Does someone know one?

A:Laptop with HDMI Input, but no program to watch the Input

you can try any of the tuner software and see if that works. things like Windows Media Center, XBMC, MediaPortal, GBPVR.

video editing software like Adobe Premiere. the best, easiest, and cheapest bets would be to try the tuner software first.

I've been fiddling with this on and off for months, but I don't  know if the problem is with the touchscreen, Windows 10, the drivers, my software, or some combination of those, so none of my troubleshooting has really gotten me anywhere. I bought the Flex 5 and the active pen intending to use the touch screen like a Cintiq monitor, in addition to the Huion graphics tablet I already own, but any pen input just reacts like touch input, making imposible to work comfortably in any painting/animation programs. I also can't figure out a setup that will let me use the active pen and my tablet at the same time; Huion and Wacom drivers don't seem to play nice with each other, so I can't have them both installed at once if I want either of them to be recognized in my software and have pressure sensitivity. I have turned off "tablet mode" in Settings, and in the Control Panel I've disabled "Flicks" and "press-and-hold to right-click". Regardless, using either the active pen or my tablet (which doesn't even interact with the touch screen) will make my computer react like I'm using my finger -- same visual feedback, press-and-hold still right-clicks, dragging with the pen will scroll around the webpage/canvas, etc. Depending on the software I'm using and which drivers are currently installed I can sometimes draw and get pressure sensitivity, but I'll still keep accidentally triggering touch commands with the pen that interrupt my work flow. Even if it's at the cost of touc... HI,

Has any one modified a Power Suply to Take 12 volt DC Input?

I would very much like to hear from you, or any one you may of heard of that has done this.

I wanted to Put a desktop case etc. in my car and use it to listen to music...

Thanks to anyone who replies...

A:DC Input Power Supply (12 volt input)

A standard Computer PSU rectifies the incoming mains (120 or 240 volt) and the "chops" it in a switchmode type power conversion.

Therefore as it starts with a high DC voltage (120 or 240 V AC rectified to DC) there is no easy conversion to make it use 12 V instead. Without a complete rebuild and redesign of the PSU.

By far the cheapest and easiest way is to use an off-the-shelf 12 V inverter that converts 12V to 120 or 240 V AC, and then you dont need to bother rebuilding the power supply from scratch.

Has the advantage of easily sourced power supply units for the PC. You would likely get away with a small 200 Watt unit.

I have an HP Pavilion A6421.uk computer with an HP w2007v monitor. (The OS is Windows Vista).I've been getting the message "VGA Input - No Input Signal" and the monitor appears to be in sleep mode permanently. I've checked all the connections, cables etc and I have also connected the monitor to an old computer, where it worked fine. I'm guessing I need a new graphics card but don't know how to go about changing it. I have
opened up the box and cleaned it all out, but am not sure what to do now.

Could I take out the graphics card from the old computer and put it in the new one? The old computer is a Dell Dimension 5000 (Windows XP).
Or would it be an option to swap hard drives? (I urgently need to access my work but the old computer got a virus and doesn't work properly).I don't know the first thing about hardware really, so wondered what any of you would recommend I do:
1. Just buy a new graphics card and replace the old one - in which case, what would I buy?
2. Put the graphics card from the old machine into the new one. How do I do this and does anyone have any diagrams?
3. Swap the hard drives so that I use the old box with the new monitor. (this is probably a stupid idea, but who knows).

Please help!!

Anybody got any ideas about this?

If you have an HDMI OUTPUT on your PC, on many you have to manually set the HDMI on the Video card as the default playback device, rather than the usual "speakers". Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel and on the Playback you will probably have an icon for the HDMI, select that as the default playback device and you should get the PC audio in the HDMI signal.

I have 2 headsets both from different companies, one from Andrea the other from Altec Lansing. I have them plugged into the front ports of my tower. My computer detects them both and says that they are working. However, I can hear out of them, but I cannot say anything. It does not hear me at all. I've tried various testing procedures and it doesn't detect anything.

What do I do?

Hi Guys, I am having trouble with some Bose QC35 headphones. They have been working fine until a short time ago, nothing has changed as far as I can tell

Now I only have sound when the headset is connected as a headset, but not when it is connected headphones. This is a problem becuase the microphone turns on so I get feedback from surround sounds and the ANC on my headset turns off. When I go into the control panel and try testing the sound, the green bars move up and down for both headphone and headset, but I only actually hear sound from the headset.

I have tried updating firmwares, turning computer and headphones on and off, repairing the headphones, checked all the volume selection spots I know about and as far as I can tell, there should be sound coming from the headphones

Computer is a lenovo P50 running windows 7

Anyone got any suggestions?

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

A:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

I've searched around a lot about this topic, but after hours and days of searching, I've found nothing to fix my problem. I have a headset that has speakers and a microphone (3.5mm jacks) that work fine, except when I'm trying to talk to someone using the microphone, they can hear the sounds coming from my headset (youtube videos, game sounds etc). I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Codec but it disappears after it finishes installing and after I restart (although it still remains in the Programs and Features uninstall page), the program files for it is empty with the exception of RtlUpd64.exe which doesn't do anything when executed and a few other files.
In device manager, the things I have under sound, video and game controllers are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the Intel Display Audio. I've updated everything to the latest. Also, I recently system restored my computer and before I did I had IDT High Definition Audio Drivers, but after updating they were changed.
I think the problem is that stereo mix is enabled somewhere or something to do with my drivers as when I tried plugging my headset into my brother's computer, it worked fine (he has the Gigabyte Realtek Audio Manager thing and was able to adjust the stereo mix settings).
If there's a program or workaround to this, or how to disable the stereo mix like through registry or something, please let me know.

A:Headset mic recording sounds through headset?

You are correct, that is the usual cause of this problem. And aside from being set in the drivers, it can sometimes be set in the application (used for the communication).

That model does appear to use the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio chipset. The problem is likely in the fact that you upgraded to Win10 and I don't see that HP supports nor supplies drivers for Win10 (I only see drivers for 7 and 8). Which means you are using generic drives supplied by Windows. The generic Windows drivers often work well enough to get hardware functional, but quite often don't support all hardware or all features of all hardware.
