I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there folks!

It seems I'm having issues with USB Audio. I have an ASUS P5N32-E SLI motherboard with up-to-date nVidia chipset. I am running Windows XP Pro 64-bit, but the issue also arose on the same system with XP Home 32-bit.

It came to light when I bought a new wireless Logitech G930 and it didn't work once installed. I went to Logitech but have not yet found a solution to what I initially thought was a Logitech product issue.

I was preparing to reformat my HDD and set up Windows XP Pro 64-bit, so I decided to do it promptly and see if that would help out the situation. I got XP up to date and attempted to use the G930 without its software. The sound was incredibly distorted and off-pitch with a lot of static. Sometimes it wouldn't work at all. I even tried to use my older wired USB Headset (Plantronics 770) which worked the last time I used it, about two months ago. It suffered the exact same distortion/static issue.

Here are some details of what I've tried:

- All of my other USB devices work perfectly fine on any USB port I plug them into. I currently have only a wireless mouse and keyboard in use.

- I've tried the headsets on all USB ports to no avail.

- I've tried both headsets on my girlfriend's laptop running Win7, both worked without issue.

- There are no yellow exclamation points in Device Manager.

- I seem to have WDMA_USB.INF and WDMA_USB.PNF in my windows/inf folder. (I had read some suggestions regarding the ... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 12-5378 Signature Edition computer, and I recently bought SkullCandy Crusher headphones. The headphones do not seem to be working and are not even showing up in my playback devices. I'm wondering if there is something that I can do to get them working?
My other question is that the Mic Cable for the SkullCandy headphones is 3.5mm plug which seems to be sticking out a tiny bit when I plug it in. Is it possible that the computer isn't recognizing the device because the plug is too long? I can't seem to find any detailed specs on the headphone jack for this computer. If this is the issue, does anyone have an adapter they recommend?
Is the issue my headphones or the laptop?
Thanks

A:Dell Inspiron 13-5378 Headphones Not Working (with new SkullCandy Crusher headphones)

Hello. Push the plug extra firmly into the jack and see if it can go in the rest of the way.  When it is detected, you should get a popup asking you to select the type of device you are using.
There aren't any detailed specs from Dell about the combo jack, just general information that we pass along on this discussion board. We have been getting reports from owners that the jacks on some late model Dell are tight.

I've tried multiple headsets on the same PC (2 HyperX Cloud IIs and a Turtle Beach X12) and the only PC that has the mic turning off randomly during gaming sessions is my own.

At first I thought it was my HyperX cloud's USB soundcard but we had a replacement sent to us and it still had the problem.

The weird part about it is it only occurs while playing games, and that me changing my default format under the advanced tab in headset microphone properties makes it work again.

I'm all out of ideas and would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with this.

My laptop's speakers aren't working at all, and when my headphones are plugged in only the right side works. The only way I can hear out of both sides of them is if I pull the jack halfway out, like you would with faulty headphones. But there's nothing wrong with the headphones and I've tried various different ones. The speakers themselves aren't working at all despite the settings telling me they are. And yes, I've tried turning it on and off and looking for updates but nothing seems to be working.

Hi Hanginaround247,
If you right click on your little speaker icon at the bottom right corner and choose "Playback devices" you should get a window pop up that looks like the picture below. Look in there and make sure the microphone is turned up.

Also are you pluggin your headphones in the green color jack in the front of the PC or back of the PC? I'm not sure if the jack on the cd/dvd drive will work like that or not.

Hello all,
I've recently build a new PC (Ultimate 64x) and am having troubles with the audio.
(oh and I have a ASUS P8Z68-V LX mobo)
Right after I installed Windows, I installed all the drivers including audio (which is the Realtek HD Audio Manager)
I plugged in the headphones by audio jack and they were working fine, until the next day when I unplugged them. The headphones didn't produce any sound, so I tried everything in my book to try and fix the issue (ie: re-installing drivers and deleting old drivers, fooling around with all the play back devices).
The sound "waves" under the volume mixer are moving, but no sound was present!
I even plugged the headphones into the right jack. This issue is very frustrating and I can't figure it out for the life of me. Please help.

Hello experts. A couple days ago my headphones stopped working. When I plug it into my ThinkPad T430, I hear nothing at all. When I unplug the headphones, I hear the audio fine. The problem started when I unplugged my HDMI cable from my laptop a couple days ago. Something happened when I pulled out the HDMI; no idea what. Now, I can head audio through my TV (via the HDMI cable) and I can hear the speakers fine, but when I plugin my headphones, I hear nothing at all. Any suggestions as to how to get this working?

BTW, I downloaded and installed this audio driver:
Lenovo HID HW Radio Driver for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit , 64-bit), 8 (32-bit , 64-bit) - ThinkPad

That did absolutely nothing.

Thanks in advance.

A:Headphones not working

Assuming the headphones are OK (and work in some other device).

Try an uninstall/reinstall of the sound.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your PC sound device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Sound. This fixes a lot of problems and may take care of yours.

Abbxe_ Are these the new headphones that come with a remote attached? Asking because for these, Apple has changed the default pinout so that they only work on iPhones.  They will not work on Android machines or Windows PCs. This may also be true of other Apple headphone models.  You would probably do better checking an Apple forum for information on their headphones. Good LuckI am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.========================================================================If you feel my suggestions helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks! If they helped resolve your issue, please click "Accept As Solution" to help others find similar information.

(I think this MAY be either a Windows issue or Motherboard issue, please move if needed.)

I am having issues with my Plantronics Gamecom Pro-1 headphones.

Two weeks ago my hard drive died and I had to replace it. After I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled my OS (windows vista 64) and updated my drivers, my headphones developed this same horrible echo-like ringing where all sound is very distorted. I ended up RMAing at the suggestion of the support person and after being positive my Realtek drivers and Windows were completely up to date. The odd thing about this is I had a crappy pair of headphones that plugged right into the analog speaker jack and had no issues with these for the week I was waiting for my RMA, however they are very uncomfortable and don't have a mic.

Hello. I recently got a new computer, but none of my headphones will work on the front headphones jack. The speakers, which are plugged into the back work just fine. I made sure my two sound drivers are up to date:

ATI High Definition Audio Device
High Definition Audio Device

When I plug the headphones in, there is no indication that anything was plugged in. Sound will play through the speakers as normal, but not through the headphones. What is odd, though, is that when I start to pull the headphone jack out, while it is roughly halfway plugged in, the volume drops to around 60% on the taskbar's volume control and sound starts playing through the headphones! While it does this, the taskbar's volume control still shows the speakers icon.

A:Headphones Not Working

I tried updating my drivers again, and installing windows updates. Still no change. I cannot even use partially plugged in headphones anymore as that specific pair was dropped and no longer work, while other pairs do not work no where near as well when partially plugged in.

I am guessing this is a problem with the jack?

Headphones and speakers use the same jack. Because you 'hear" audio through either device it is an output jack. The other port is for microphone. That is connected to an input jack because you are putting audio into the computer.

Open Control Panel, then Sounds and click on the Playback tab if it doesn't open there.
Make sure there is a green checkmark at it.

It is possible that i don't know what drivers i should download.

Realtek would be your *soundcard* drivers - do you headphones require separate drivers? If so download *those* and reinstall those as well.

Really need to get 2 usb headphones working simultaneously very fast - need them for a trip starting on boxing day - didnt expect any problems, but somehow they just dont work - all I know is that one of them is some standard logitech usb headphone with a microphone, and one is a POV 5.1 surround sound pair of headphones - please tell me if you need additional information.

I'm not sure that this will work
ie your default speaker will only be one of the headphones
I'll stay tuned if others say it can be done

When I plug headphones into either of the jacks on the XPS 8700 windows recognizes that a device has been plugged into (or unplugged from) the audio jack, but no device shows up on the 'Sound' control panel.  (it has 2 unused NVIDIA entries and the the Speakers.) and no sound from the headphones.
The Speakers work fine, but no headphones.  Thanks if you can help.

Try plugging the headphones into the top of the tower headphone jack instead of the back one which is hard to see and identify correctly. The top of the tower has 2 usb ports, a mic port and a headphone port.

So, my harddrive died last week, I took it to geek squad, got the data backed up and had them replace the harddrive.

Brought the computer home, and now there is no way to get sound out of it. Plugging the headphones into any port at all (either back or front) doesn't work. Finally got it to detect the headphones in the front (unclicking the detect front jack thingy in the front for the win). But still no sound, and no ability to use mic. Now, it doesn't react if I disconnect and replug them in. It shows as they are connected whether they are or not, and no sound under any circumstances.

Real tek is the driver, pretty sure i have the latest version.

Also, using a vista x64 rig, desktop.

Any thoughts?

So my headphones were working perfectly on my HP Pavilion m6 laptop last night. This morning, they don't work at all. The sound still works when the headphones are not plugged in but once they are plugged in, nothing comes out of either the speakers or the headphones. I've tried to set the headphones as the default device but for some reason, this never takes. I've also deleted the driver and let it reinstall after restarting, as well as doing a system restore. Nothing has helped so far.

I've looked it up and the problem seems to be with the driver but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
