ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard

Q: ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard

I have a ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint. Great Keyboard, however the micro USB connection keeps getting unplugged. Any slight movement loosens the connection which is very agrivating when one is typing. Is there a solution to make the micro USB connection more perminant?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I've recently bought a Thinkpad campact bluetooth keyboard and W541.As I've been using a Macbook pro, I expected that a bluetooth keyboard could awake my laptop when it is in sleep mode like a Macbook does.I found that a wired usb keyboard can do that.In device manager, there's the power management tab in Intel Bluetooth, but the allow wake up option is grayed out.Is this a feature W541 doesn't support? If it doesn't, newer Thinkpad models do? I'm using the laptop with the lid closed for the most of time so that I desperately need this.Thank you

OS: Windows 10 64bits with latest sys update in 2017Thinkvantage update: no updates needed (all latest)Driver: 2006/6/1 version from Microsoft, Lenovo drivers seems discountinued and cannot be found anywhere on its support pages (Anyone can find it? I remember it used to be a standalone driver for the bluetooth version of the compact keyboard)Tried: BIOS settings (toggle of Fn/Ctrl, Enable Lock), latest BIOS version but not working at all.Workaround: I have to press: Fn + F4 + Alt in order to close a window, which has the same effect as F4 + Alt. But can't live wiz this because it's transforming a 2 button job into a weird 3 button job.Note: This problem only occurs with all my bluetooth compact keyboards, but doesn't affect the normal FnLk functions on the USB version of Thinkpad Compact Keyboard.  The wireless keyboard is really handy except the FnLk not working that kills anyone wiz a habit of shortcuts involving Fn + keys. Plz kindly help.

I was just given a Thinkpad 390. It was having problems booting past the bio screen. Eventually, after trying to enter bios and no luck, I tried hooking up the keyboard from my tower. The keyboard worked in the thinkpad, but I found that the only way the laptop will boot up is if the keyboard is plugged in. Then, once in windows (2000) the laptop keyboard still wont work, whether the tower keyboard is plugged in or not. I have no idea if anything was spilled on the machine or not. Does anyone know how to get into the keyboard to make sure its plugged into the board correctly?? I unscrewed the screws, but its not as easy as that though. Any ideas? Thanks

I bought my P50 in March of 2016. I've been very happy with my purchase overall, the only disappointment has been the low key-rollover property of the built-in keyboard. I am a programmer/game developer, and it is important for me to have a keyboard that supports multiple simultaneous keystrokes. After taking ownership, I found that the keyboard drops strokes with as few as 2 keys already held down, which makes it pretty useless for gaming.  I work around this by plugging in a USB keyboard when I need to test my game projects. At the time I purchased, there was only one option for the keyboard. Today, I was browsing the Lenovo online store, and noticed that there's now an option for a backlit keyboard in addition to the standard non-backlit keyboard.  Under "Help Me Decide" it says: Lenovo has refreshed the keyset on all ThinkPad laptops, outfitting them with the ThinkPad Precision Keyboard. This new keyset allows a more comfortable, fluid and accurate typing experience with it's slate of individually rounded, spacious, and low-set keys. The ThinkPad Precision Keyboard simultaneously delivers a modern look and feel to your ThinkPad.*Select models are available with a backlit keyset as standard, or as an optional upgrade.*Most 15.6" models come standard with full keyboard including dedicated number pad. I am wondering if this refreshed keyboard means a  higher rollover. my laptop keyboard is not working right. first the specs. ibm thinkpad T42, machine type 2378, model R4U, OS xp-pro coa sp2, 512mb ram. my cpu usage jumps up and down between 40 to 100% when running my spy sweeper, fire fox isp and a voice chat program. when i am not running any programs except whats need for the laptop to work the cpu usage is 3 to 10%. and i have available ram. OK now with the problem. when i try to type on the keyboard the letters or numbers don't show up. but if i hold the keys down it will show up there is a delay of about 2 seconds. if i just push down the keys at normal speed it wont show up. it will only show up if i hold it down for about 2 seconds. i thought the keyboard was bad so i bought a new one from the factory. i installed it but it is still doing the same thing. just to let you know every thing else about the computer works great and and all my programs do not have any lag. its only the problem with keyboard delay. i will just add this i have cleaned up the computer, defragged, ran spy ware and anti virus and it has been working fine for years without any problems.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad
Model : E431 (Edge Series) Number: 62774UQ
(3rd Gen Ci5/ 4GB/ 500GB 7200rpm HDD/ Windows 10)

I purchase this in 2013. It has been used moderately over the first 2/ 2 1/2 years
The laptop was idle for the past 6 months.
After I recharged the laptop, I noticed that some keys began to malfunction. So I installed Windows 10 (Windows 7 previously). However the problem persisted.
The shift key seems to be pressed as per its own wish and the sticky keys notifications comes up on its own. The Enter key sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes on its own. The backspace key also does not function sometimes.
I then opened up the laptop and removed the keyboard from the laptop and then replugged it back in hoping it would make a difference, but it didn't.
The touchpad also become unresponsive sometimes and I have to press the Windows key twice to make it work again.
What could be the source of the problem? Is it the keyboard or is it the motherboard to blame? Kindly provide a solution.

Ok here's the story... I borrowed a semi broken thinkpad from a friend... monitor is cracked and most of the keys don't work... so when I got it I used a external keyboard.. no problem... with a splitter for the mouse... no problem... It has windows 2000 pro. I personally use windows 98 so I was trying to get my scroll mouse to work so I loaded the software for that mouse... big mistake..... after that No mouse or keyboard worked.... I eventually tried another mouse that goes through the parallel port... ah that works... still no keyboard... I unistalled the mouse and keyboard many times... with no luck... my next thought was the com port so I uninstalled that.... nope still no keyboard.. even the few keys from the laptop that did work before do not..nor the laptops own mouse. So I hope I said it all... except because this is borrowed I don't have the discs.... so what else? Joel

What am I doing wrong? I don't think I changed any configurations so why can I not get letters from these keys?

I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 model. It is using Windows 10. What is the driver/software I should check to make sure I'm running the latest version for the equivalent of what used to be called "Transitions"?  Basically something that recognizes various keyboard configurations such as tablet mode, tent mode, etc. and appropriately disables or re-enables the keyboard? Two things happened last night as I was playing a game in tent mode:- firstly I could not get the screen to rotate 180 degrees when I switched from tablet mode to normal laptop mode by rotating the keyboard and flipping to normal orientation.  So everything was displayed upside-down.- the keyboard was unresponsive, but I could use the touch screen fine and use the Windows button under the screen to get to the Start menu.   So basically somehow something stopped responsing that should have told the system that I flipped the laptop from tent mode to normal mode and also rotated the keyboard forward.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad x240 that I bought refurbrished in ferbruary. It was working perfectly untill recently I've noticed a problem with a bult-in keyboard. So microphone mute key stopped working and when I press down and hold left Alt key, microphone mute indicator powers on. Also sometimes Fn lock led stays powered on even though Fn lock is disabled. I've noticed this behavior after I've used logitech wireless mouse with usb unified reciever. Is there a way to fix this strange behavior? I've already cleaned contacts on the keyboard connector on the motherboard and cable, but it didn't fix the problem. Also it seems like it is not OS dependet, because it has the same behavior in bios/linux/windows 7 & 10.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1. The keyboard sometimes becomes unresponsive, while the external keyboard still works fine. The keyboard revives after going to sleep mode. I have had this issue since the beginning (2 month ago). The fact that it still works fine with the external keyboard incriminates the driver. But all drivers are up to date. (I made all the updates I could find.) And in the device manager, the status reads  This device is working properly . Anyone else having the same issue, ... and its solution? Thanks,JC

Hi Jc-createlli,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with keyboard not working when system is on sleep mode on your ThinkPad Yoga S1.

Go to device manager and under keyboard adapter uninstall all the adapter and restart the system and check.

Run ThinkVantage system update utility and update all the drivers and application from that.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Greetings,I recevently received a Thinkpad 13 intended for small office use.  However, when I inspected the hardware, I discovered a problem at the bottom left corner of the keyboard (pictures below).??As you can see, the corner of the keyboard base is bulging upward.  It very clearly should not be this way, as the other corner is flush with the edge of the chassis (picture below). ??So, I tried to wiggle the corner down into place, but it did no good.  I don't want to have to send it back (I just got it, and need to use it), but I certainly don't want damage or poor quality control to be ignored.Does anyone know if I can fix this myself?  If not, what is the best way to inform Lenovo of this problem?Cheers,

Hi, thanks in advance for your help.I have a Thinkpad T570 with a UK keyboard, I would like to swap it with a french one.I did it for many Thinkpad, but I cannot find any french keyboard for this model ... is there any way to find this keyboard? or is there a model of Thinkpad compatible with the T570 keyboard ? Best regards,

A:Thinkpad T570 - keyboard change

There are two vendors and four french keyboards available for your T570:- FRU: 01EN939, Tachi NBL KBD,FR,CHY.- FRU: 01ER552, Tachi BL KBD,FR,CHY.- FRU: 01ER511, Tachi NBL KBD,FR,LTN.- FRU: 01ER593, Tachi BL KBD,FR,LTN. CHY means Chicony and LTN - LiteON.NBL stands for non backlit and BL - backlit. If you ask me, which one vendor will be better, then in the past LiteON made pretty good keyboards and Chicony one of worst in comparison to other. I have seen, that LiteON's keyboards are available on eBay.  Keyboards for T570 are allowed to be replaced by customer, so you'll not lose warranty after replacing keyboard (obliviously, if you don't damage something in the process).

I really hate the ISO keyboard. They managed to take the existing keyboard design, which is already sub-optimal, based on 1800 typewriters, and managed to make it worse! With an ISO keyboard your pinkies have to travel twice as far from home row just to hit two of the most used keys, shift and return:At least some companies recognize this problem and have been giving the option to buy laptops with ANSI US keyboards, all over the world. Sadly, I couldn't find a single EU Lenovo online shop that carried this keyboard option, and the US shop will not sell internationally. I would love to buy a P40 Yoga, but the ISO keyboard is a deal breaker, because I spend most of my computer time typing. Do you have any advice?

Hey everyone, Recently bought this laptop. Loving everything about it. However, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 (it wasn't an upgrade from Win8.1, but rather a new install of Win10 after I replaced the harddrive to a 1TB SSD). Since then I've reinstalled everything I could get from the site. Every Lenovo driver set and utility. Updated the BIOS. Consulted the Solution Center. Ran scans from the utilities and the site. I've literally tried EVERYTHING that's obvious, and I can't get the backlight to come on at all. When I first received the laptop with the old harddrive, the backlight worked just fine. Since I put in the new SSD with a fresh install, I cannot for the life of me get it to turn on. Pressing Fn+SPACE gets it to show the little icon on screen that it's SUPPOSED to be turned on, but it isn't on. So I'm at a loss here. I sincerely doubt it's a hardware issue, because literally the only thing that's changed is the harddrive. If there's a specific driver for the keyboard backlight, I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance!

Hi. welcome to the forum.

Do you want to try out something just to check that the keyboard light is working?
I have a TP Yoga 14 here and when I access the BIOS the keyboard lights up when I press "FN+Space", give it a try if it works for you.

I do not know if it requires an special driver, but I'm using the Windows 10 that was updated over the Win8.1 that came included.

The other things that cames to my mind is trying to boot other OS from the USB and see if the keyboard lights up.
