I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: game controllers for comp.

Well, it depends on what kind of games you want to play. If you want to play first-person shooters, like Half-Life, Call of Duty, etc., then you may find that the keyboard and mouse are easier, and more natural to use. If you want to play sports games, then a controller is definitely a better option. Some games just work better with a controller than others.

Anyway, for the actual controller, I have a Logitech Rumblepad 2 that I use for baseball games, and it works great for me. I've seen many people using an Xbox 360 controller for PC use, and it works great for them. I'd probably try that if I had an Xbox, but I don't, so the Logitech controller works for me.

Just noticed this problem yesterday when attempting to play my flight simulator after work. The controls didn't work at all on my Saitek X45 joystick. The LED status lights were OK, so I exited the program and opened the control panel to access the game controllers. After numerous double clicks, it didn't open. I went into device manager, and under "sound, video, and game controllers" my joystick was not listed; however, it was under the HID section, and disappeared/reappeared when I unplugged the joystick and plugged it back in.

I found several threads on different forums so I tried a few options, including removing all the HID devices and USB devices from device manager (had to use VNC from my iphone to finish all of them when I removed the mouse/keyboard from the list, lol). I then rebooted and let windows "re-find" all of the devices, but "game controllers" still wouldn't open. The Event Viewer shows no errors and I am not getting any popup errors when trying to open it. As a last resort, I tried a registry cleaner this morning, but I am now lost because I have pretty much exhausted all options that I know of.

I did try creating another windows user account and tried to access game controllers from that account. It, too, did not work. The only time I could get it to open was when I booted into safe mode. It came right up.

Hey, So I'm running a C2D on an Asus P5B deluxe mobo.

I have this major problem where my comp runs uber-slow untill I uninstall all the ATP / ATAPI controllers from my Device Manager and reboot.
But the moment I reboot Windows reinstalls them again and after my next reboot my data transfer, and my comp in general is slow again.

I have no clue as to why my comp runs fine without those controllers, but the moment they auto-install my comp becomes slow and jerky again.

Can anyone help?

Just btw I uninstall all my Primary IDE Channels, Secondary IDE Channels and Dual PCI E IDE Channels and only then does it run fine.

I have a Gateway GT5628 Core 2 Quad desktop. Vista Home Premium. It has on-board sound (which is enabled in the BIOS), and worked fine for the month I've had the machine until a couple of days ago. We had a power outage, and when the system came back up, I had a speaker icon in the system tray with a red X saying "No Audio output device is installed".

The system does not seem to realize that a sound card exists. It no longer shows up in device manager. Also, "Sound, video, and game controllers" is not showing as a category in device manager...was this removed in Vista, or is this part of my problem?

I talked to support at Gateway, and they told me to reinstall the drivers. As I expected, the drivers won't install because "Audio device not found". They then told me to do a Factory Recovery.....no thanks. I've spent too many hours tweaking this thing! Do you folks think a Factory recovery would do anything? To me this seems like a hardware problem. If the machine can't see the sound card now, it's not going to see it with a recovery either, right?

Plus, I already ran System Recovery once! The system blue-screened like crazy when I first got it. After installing all my software, I realized that SP1 was not installed. It would not install no matter what. I had to do a factory recovery, then install SP1, then re-install all my software!

FYI - I have the newest system BIOS installed.

Thank you for any tips!

A:Solved: No audio output device is installed - "Sound, video, game controllers" option

Sounds like the power outage did something not so nice to your PC (investing in a UPS is a good thing). It sounds to me like some sort of hardware issue at this point.

I would recommend opening the case up and seeing if any of the capacitors (little can like things) on the motherboard look like they are distended (look like they are bulging out or exploded), also do a sniff test and see if anything smells funny.

I use the cheapest MS Sidewinder for both flying and driving games. Most are very hard to control and airplanes flit around like butterflies and cars go from one curb to the other. The question is - will a better control such as a force feedback be any help? Also will a steering wheel control an airplane as well as a car? I'd greatly appreciate your opinions of the various types and brands of controllers on the market. Thank you. dormant. P.S. Yes I have tried to change sensitivity settings.

My friends computer--400 MGHz pentium, 352 MB SDRAM, 2.5 GB HD. 2 GB secondary HD--is not recognizing any game controllers, USB or serial. all the drivers needed are installed. when pulling out the USB controller, the name of the controller will flash on the screen for an instant, but that is all. anyone have any idea how to solve this?

A:Win 98 not reading Game Controllers

G'day Dking63, you might try having a look in control panel > system > device manager and open the game controller applet (which is also sound) If you enter it you should see something like " this device is working properly" or words to that effect and probably a few other tabs you can peek into.
There is a possibility you may have multiple installs which is probably best addressed by deleting anything associated, rebooting and redetecting etc.
That is a start toward trying something, there is also an applet called game controllers in the system area which may tell you something.
Cheers, qldit

Well, i have a MS Sidewinder (the original, still the bomb) and i switch off between Logitech Formula Force USB and MS Precision Pro USB, and the play nice w/ each other. You might not have the latest ver. of DirectX 7. They released DX7a shortly after 7 for the very same (or close) problem you're having. Also, just to be sure, are you running Win95, 'cause the USB support on that sucks. But i don't know why it would also cause your Saitek to conflict as well

I have a Dell Inspiron 3646 with Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU J1800 @ 2.41GHz and 4GB of memory and although the computer works fine it has 1 small major problem:
It does not recognize ANY game controller that is plugged up to it!
I have Flight Simulator X installed and it works fine except for the fact that I have no game controllers for it.
I have plugged in my CH Products USB Flight Yoke and USB Rudder Pedals and thiscomputer says that they do not exist.
I have tried my Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas 4 joystick and installed the updated drivers for it and this comnputer says that it does not exist.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have no problem plugging in any other USB product, camera, phone, turntable, hard drive and even a USB portable Blue-Ray recorder and they work fine.
You just can't plug in any game controller.
This really *** and even though I just purchased this computer less than 8 months ago I am ready to set it on top of the garbage can for the collector to pick up but I'm scared he might get *** at me.
Any suggestions or help would be most gratefully appreciated.

I want to buy a controller that will work with new games that requires Xbox 360 wired controller. I bought a cheap Chinese controller but it works on games prior the year 2007. New games like Borderlands, Call of Duty cannot be played with this controller. I saw Logitech F310 controllers which looks good but not sure if it works on these games. Please tell me which games can be played with controllers.

A:Which game controllers will work on new games?

call of duty wont work with any controller, its built for use with a mouse and keyboard.
However there is a soloution to get cod to work with xbox360 controller , installl pinnacle and download a cod profile. this has the gamepad buttons mapped and will play as if playing cod on the xbox ( with a controller)

there are a few games that dont use gamepads and so there are profiles for them also.
its not free.

there is a trial but it stops the game profile working after 10 mins or so.

I hope someone can help me troubleshoot this as it is driving me crazy! I have a dedicated PC (Win7 x64) for Microsoft Flight Simulator, but I can't fly at all at the moment because of this issue, unless I use the keyboard to input everything (not really an option!).

I load up the sim (FS2004) and start doing the normal 'game' preparations, but usually within ten minutes - it seems to be getting worse as time goes on - both my Saitek X52 joystick (USB) and my Belkin Nostromo N52 (USB) stop working, at the same moment moreover. I assumed it was a USB issue, though my keyboard and mouse still work just fine. Also, when I go into the Saitek Control Panel (where you test all the buttons and functions are working) everything responds as normal, it's just in Flight Simulator, my profile (that is, with what keyboard functions I have programmed all the buttons etc.) is unloaded and a default (I assume) takes over - the button I use to remove aircraft brakes now operates flaps instead; the 'hat' which changes views from exterior to interior now does nothing at all, and so on.The keyboard shortcuts I have programmed into the X52 and N52 still work if I input them via the keyboard instead.

In addition, the Saitek icon in the task bar changes to a blue circle and I cannot access any of the functions which are normally available there - clicking the blue circle does nothing. If I terminate the Saitek profiler process in Task Manager and unplug then plug the X52 back i... Read more

I disabled xHCI in the BIOS, as a test. After a few minutes with Flight Simulator, I got a BSOD "System Service Exception" 0x0000003B. (Microsoft say this is to do with IEEE 1394 (firewire? I don't have firewire on this PC). Goes from bad to worse!

I downloaded the drivers from Acer for the Realtek and installed it. Still no Sound, video and game controllers. I bought and installed a new PCI sound card still no Sound, video and game controllers. As I was working on the computer, the USB keyboard stopped working. I rebooted and got it back. The next time I rebooted, I lost the USB keyboard and mouse. I tried a different USB mouse and different USB ports and none of the USB ports worked. At that point, I went and got a glass of wine.

I spent hours looking for suggestions on the web but none of the suggestions worked. Could the motherboard be going out? Does anyone have any suggestions.

A:NO Sound video and game controllers, then lost USB ports

Sounds like a power draw issue is that sound gone when using game controllers or is that just what it is saying? At this point try resetting the USB stack.

Refreshing the USB Stack
a. - Device Manager –

b. Expand USB Serial Controllers - RIGHT CLICK on EVERYTHING and UNINSTALL all except the category itself. (If you have a USB keyboard/mouse do it last then unfortunately reboot the pc via the power button, as the keyboard/mouse will be gone. you can avoid this if you have a ps\2 port and keyboard to use to do this)

c. REBOOT the computer. This refreshes the drive and the USB stack

Joy.cpl opens fine, and each device has "OK" next to it, but when I attempt to click "properties," no worky. Says "Necessary support files not found." I think this may have to do with my monkeying with DirectX, as 9.0c screwed over my joystick's compatibility with X-Wing Alliance, and I used a utility to uninstall it forcibly. I then proceeded to attempt reinstalls with 8.0 and 7.0, but neither worked. Now, after reinstalling 9.0c, the properties button remains unavailable, the joystick -still- doesn't work in X-Wing Alliance, and it's becoming very frustrating. I don't have my Windows 2000 cd as it is in CO with my dad--I do have a full copy on the hard drive, however. Both input devices worked before--one is a usb and one is a serial port. Essentially dxdiag tells me everything is fine regarding inputs, though dsound is apparently an older version, and ddrawex.dll was missing until I copied it back in from a source online. How can I, in order of importance:

A) Return the Properties button to normal functioning
B) Get X-Wing Alliance's aging software to detect my version of DirectX enough to recognize my joystick?

The basic problem with X-Wing isn't appropriate for this forum, natch, but apparently its joystick recognition interface is tied to an outdated dxdiag, and the "configure input" button results in a command to install DirectX 6.1--this didn't happen before with previous versions of DirectX,... I have been having a devil of a time trying to get FEAR to run on my desktop PC even though I have plenty of hardware. Win XP SP2, 2 GHz P4, 2G DDR SDRAM, Geforce 7600 GS, SB Live! sound, Direct-x 9.0c. I have given up on that for now to chase a related (I think) problem.

I click on Game Controllers in Control Panel and nothing happens. I get an hourglass for a couple seconds and then nothing. I have 2 joysticks, one a legacy MS Sidewinder that works through the SB game port. That still works fine on games likeNeed for Speed. I recently picked up a new Logitech USB stick and that works fine, too. But I can't get to the Game Controllers area to tweak drivers or delete the old MS Sidewinder from the system.

Also, when I run dxdiag.exe it aborts on the directinput part. If I say OK to skip that it analyzes everything else just fine. But there is someing f'ed up in the Windows game controller component. Everything else in Control Panel works fine and the computer is otherwise running great.

I have updated the sound card drivers but I am wondering if one of the Windows service pack or security upgrades may have created an incompatibility with my sound card/game port??

Any ideas how to recover this?

A:can't access "game controllers" in Control Panel

Well, I managed to sleuth this out. I figured it had to be a conflict caused by the legacy (Win 95 vintage) MS Sidewinder joystick. So I went into Device Manager and selected Human Interface devices. Everything there had a name except one that was merely listed as a "HID-compliant device". I figured that had to to be the Sidewinder so I disabled it and lo and behold, the Game Controller selection in Control Panel was operative again! I opened that and deleted the MS Sidewinder and then went back into device manager-HID and deleted the driver. Too bad that some Win XP update caused this issue. The joystick was perfectly good and worked with XP without issues for many years. Now dxdiag runs with no issues and reports the keyboard, mouse, and Logitech stick. All is well again. :-)

A:3-D game locking up my comp

By "locking up" do you mean causing the whole system to freeze, and making you reboot, or just freeze the game?

I did notice your computer specs are barely making the minimum requirements of the game. The minimum requirements mean the minimum that the game will "run" on. That doesn't necesarially mean that it will run nicely.

Do you have the latest version of sound and video card drivers, as well as the required version of DirectX?

If not, try updating those.

Also, what OS are you running?

Have u seen any other un-usual activity since u downloaded it? like ur system has become slower(while ur nor running this program) or some programs dont respond as quick as they used to be if yes then ur system might have been infected.

>>>> The prob started after i had to unplug the Xbox from the Router - now we can no longer connect all 3 items at the same time, not even just 2 of them. It has to be one at a time or none at all.

Does any one know what might be causing the problem? Does the 2 comps and the xbox all need be on a different ip addresses? Please HELP me for Xbox Support nor Linksys Support seems to know what might be going on. Verizon (my DSL server) did mention that it seemed as though the Xbox
"might be" stealing all the bandwith - not for sure!!!!!

I await any and all HELP..... my family needs its 3 way connection back - it is killing mom - lol.

A:Networking Game/Comp Prob!

Yes, all three devices need to have unique IP addresses. Is DHCP turned on in the router?

You could always connect each device to the router and check their IP addresses. I'm not sure how to check the IP address of an Xbox but it can't be that hard.

You could alway download this to one of your PCs and install it. Do a scan of the IP range that the Linksys is ginving out (when each device is connected to the router).

It's possible that the Xbox is set to BOOTP or something else and has aquired an IP address and doesn't want to release it. If it's keeping an IP address and the router doesn't know about it the router will try to give out the same IP address which would cause problems for you.

This might come in handy as well.

A:I load up a game play for about 5-10minutes the comp shuts off.

Hi mate,
First of all, maybe your processor is overheating because you have loads of dust inside the case and on heatsink...
Open the case and clean it from dust with vacuum cleaner or with compressed air...
Also check your PSU, if it is older than 1,5 - 2 years, you should try to clean it from dust too... Maybe PSU could not hold and it turns off... Touch the case near PSU after 5-10 min of playing games and check if it is warm... Also check if cooler in PSU is spinning and taking out hot air...
Let us know what you did...
Hope this will help you mate...

I've recently found the amazing game Magic Carpet, by Bullfrog Entertainment (now taken over by EA), which I used to play on my Compaq Presario 1500 back when Windows 95 had just come out... a DOS game.

The game runs, excepting sound, but it runs MUCH faster than it's supposed to... characters are flitting around near the speed of light and it's impossible to navigate my character.

I've tried CPUKiller... at low levels it didn't help and at mid to high levels it made the rest of my computer crawl but only resulted in the game skipping and lagging, which I'd guess was a struggling framerate?

I'm not sure what to do. I have noticed that F1 through F10 alter some things in the game, and I can toggle between a normal speed, fast, and super fast, which doesn't help when "normal" is a blistering speed. I tried running a hex editor to possibly alter this speed value to my advantage (I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do). It seems like running anything with the game results in low virtual memory and lags out my system.

Here's the [Magic Carpet Demo Download]
And here's the Patch, two files which replace the two found in the Levels folder (in case you solve my problem and want to enjoy the game for yourself)

Any ideas?

Thats the problem with running it in Windows XP & unfortunately, it can't be fixed. You're better of trying to run in it Windows 98 or 95 if u still have them. I have Windows 98 installed as a backup OS on a second partition on my hard disk. I play this old DOS game called Return to Zork from time to time. I too tried CPU Killer but no use. I ran it in Windows 98 instead, and it ran perfectly.

I loaded all my documents and folders from "My Documents" on my old computer (XP) and when I went to load them on my new system (8.1) only about 8 were included on the memory sticks. I used 2 sticks and assured that all the documents were loaded in full.
Any suggestions or ideas.

Okay so basically i've had lots of hard drive problems with slowness and whatnot, yes the voltages are fine, and yes i'm in UDMA5 mode. My access rate is 2.7 MB/s or around there. Basically I didn't know what was wrong, but I took a look in my system event viewer and here's what I got:

"The driver has detected that device \Device\Ide\IdePort3 has old or out-of-date firmware. Reduced performance may result."

"An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation."

"The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort3, did not respond within the timeout period."

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort3."

I hope someone out there can give me a little push in the right direction with a small problem.

I have a second computer running Windows 98 SE, and all of a sudden the disk drives (CD-RW and DVD-Rom) are not being recognised in BIOS or 'My Computer', when I check device manager there is the warning yellow triangle beside the 'second IDE controller'. I have went thru' the process of 'updating driver' but Windows says that the 'best' driver has already been installed. I have changed IDE cables also - but again no luck.
The disk drives were running as the secondary master (DVD-Rom) and secondary slave (CD-RW).

Any ideas guys?

How ya going.

Last night I came across a rather annoying problem all my usb ports became inactive.

It was right after I attempted to install Daemon Tools the problem occurred, The intall came up to a part where I had to reset my computer "While Kaspersky is giving me some info about system 32 =S" so I reset and bam he Windows logo load up screen became slow to show and load up and all my usb devices became inactive.

I've tried updating my mobo and uninstalling DT but it was never installed according to my programs list.

MOBO: GA-965P-S3 [3.3]

Right now I'm surviving on a PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard, and a slowed computer.

I am thinking maybe the registry or some weird unknown "For me" could be to blame.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Boot into Setup (Bios) make sure IDE port 2 is Enabled. If so, does the Bios see the Burner? Once Enabled, restart the computer and go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager are there any devices with yellow marks? Is you CDDVD drive listed?

Hey there, back again with another problem Really not my month as far as computers go...

This time my PC has decided to start playing up.

So, I went to play Plants vs Zombies for the first time a few days back, when loading it just went to a completely black screen and did nothing, my pc had crashed loading Plants vs Zombies... (Don't laugh). So I turned it off, turned the comp back on, and when windows loaded it appeared none of my USB devices bar my wifi adapter were working (In Windows only, they were fine pre-windows booting up). So, only thing I could think of was remote access my pc (I have LogMeIn on the computers in my house because I'm lazy etc etc) from my laptop, so, I did that and went into device manager, none of my USB devices were showing (Mouse, Keyboard, Portable HDD... actually thats about it), instead there were loads of /!\'s in the USB Controllers section (See screenshot). I clicked on one and it said.

This Devices Cannot Start. (Code 10)
Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.
Usually when I see this, I just uninstall it and let windows redetect it, so, I did that to all of the controllers, and bingo, they reloaded, USBs turned on, it was all happy times and that was that.

I turn the PC off for the night, come back the next day, turn the pc on, same problem is back... This time the PC is also running incredibly slow. Do the same as last time, remote access... Read more

After a failed attempt to install a Mitsumi CR-4804TE CD-RW drive, I now can't see my old LITE-ON CD-Rom drive in Windows98. In Device Manager, I have No CDROM listed, and yellow exclamation marks beneath ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller next to both the Primary and Secondary IDE controllers.

I've checked the physical connections, set the BIOS to Auto detect drives (except the Hard drive which is set to User), and during bootup it does indicate that the CDROM is found, but just not in Windows.

I also removed the ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE Controller in Device Manager while in Safe Mode, and let Windows find the devices on restart, but the yellow exclamations remain.

How can I reinstall my old CD-ROM drive? Any help is appreciated.
