Solved: Access 03 - Call Modules/Procedures

Q: Solved: Access 03 - Call Modules/Procedures

I have this procedure:
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)

This searches for empty fields and displays a message if any are

I need this procedure to run when certain other buttons are
clicked. I know I don't have to cut and paste this every time. I
thought I could "call" the procedure...didn't work. So I cut and
pasted it into a Module and named it "ReqFields" with the same
procedure name...didn't work. I can't find good examples on the
Net. Can anyone help me! I don't know much in this area.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Solved: Access 03 - Call Modules/Procedures

ddw, I am not sure what you named "ReqFields", was it the Module or the Sub?
If it was the module then I would suggest it would be better to call the Sub either the same or something just as meaningful, do not use a Form's Event for it's name as it might confuse Access.
If you re-name your Sub as ReqFields then use
Call ReqFields

to call it.

I am running Windows7, 64-bit operating system. In trying to run Windows Office Access 2003 on this operating system and an Access data base (which runs fine in Windows XP), I get the following error message when I try to execute an Even Procedure. This problem only occurs when running on the Windows7 platform with 64-bit, and not on Windows XP with a 32-bit system:

"File not found"

The following in Blue is the event procedure I am trying to run which upon clicking, is suppose to grab the contents of the "Bates" record (which is the name of a TIF image) and feed the TIF image name to an external image viewer: "i_view32.exe", so that the viewer then displays the image.

Private Sub Command13_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command13_Click

Dim stAppName As String
Dim txthold As String

txthold = "C:\Docs\" & Bates & ".tif"

stAppName = "C:\Program Files(x86)\IrfanView\i_view32.exe" & txthold

Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

Exit Sub

MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command13_Click

End Sub

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a form with an option group. One of the options is to “Return to Claims”. When this option is selected, I would like for a text box to pop up so that information can be entered into the text box. If this option is not chosen, then I would like for the text box to remain hidden.

I am aware that I will need to set up an event. However, I am not familiar with this. Can anyone help me with what I need to do and how to do it? I will especially need help writing the code.

I have a form that I added The Microsoft TreeView Control to. I have my tree and I want to add the "NodeClick" event procedure but everytime I try to add it (in code) I get errors on ALL my event procedures.

I am guessing that I am missing a step and cannot just add the code directly like this:

Private Sub MyTree_NodeClick(Node as Node)
End Sub
When I add other events to this control using the properties box they work fine.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how the Modules in Access 97 works. Is there any websites that can explains how it works of how to use it.

Thanks for your help

A:Using Modules in Access 97

A module is basically a piece of code you use over and over again in an application. If you have multiple formes that use the same code you can create a module and call it from the form without having to manually code each form.

Good morning (my time) all.
I need to build a simple access database (access 2010) I looked at the ready made templates and they don't quite meet my needs as you would expect, some however I have found some form/table that I can use like customer details and others.
In order for me to cheat a little can i pick the various tables and forms already made in other templates and import them into my database? or would i be wasting my time and just build from scratch?

I want to upgrade the ram in my HP Notebook - 15-ac121dx, and maybe the hard drive, but I cannot figure out how to access the ram. There is no access panel, and unlike some other models, it doesnt have a simple lever in battery bay to pull off the cover.

A:How to access the ram modules on a 15-ac121dx

OK, I figured out how to get the bottom on the laptop off.  After watching some youtube videos I came across another HP laptop that had screws under the rubber feet and of course there are also screws under the rear two rubber feet, can't believe I didn't think of looking under them.   So to get the bottom you need to:Take out all the screws on the bottom.  (Should be 12 total)Pull out the DVD drive (Yes it does come out).Finally, carefully pull apart the case around the side.After that you should have complete access to the hard drive and RAM slots.

Please, is there a way to run access Modules from Macro? Basically I am trying to run the module at certain time of the day via Windows Task Scheduler. All my Access queries are defined in a Module.

Thanks so much

A:Access 2000 Modules

1. Your code in the module needs to be a Function rather than a Sub.
2. Name your macro AutoExec.
3. The first line of your macro should be RunCode and use the expression builder or type your function name in the Function Name argument for RunCode.

AutoExec will run when your scheduled task opens your database. It, in turn, will run your function.

I have just bought a new computer and I am not sure how to handle the Home Network set-up. Here are the facts:

Old Home Network:

Gateway Select 1200 (Me) Main Identity (Windows Me)
Compaq Presario 2440 (Wife) (Windows 98)

Uses Wireles Linksys adapters on both with Linksys cable modem works great with no problems.

New Home Network

Compaq Presario 6300US (Me) Main Identity(Windows XP)
Gateway Select 1200 Wife) (Windows Me)

Same adapters and modem

Do I have to delete the old home network? - or just use new names on the new home network - am slightly confused about just what procedures apply. I will be setting up the new Compaq computer and leaving the old Gateway basically alone. Anyone out there that can guide me? I need all the help I can get.

Thanks !

P.S. When I set up the new computer at what point do I set up the Network? I am kinda confused - lol!

I'm pretty much 100% sure a trojan has infected my computer. I had one a while ago (about a month) and although Kaspersky said it had neutralized it, judging by my computer's behaviour now there's something seriously wrong. I'm guessing it might have come from some custom content for Sims 2 that I downloaded, it seems the most high risk anyway. I don't know much about computers, so I'm not sure about the technical jargon, but I know this much:

Something consistently tries to delete startup modules, particularly when I try to connect to the internet. I think it might be writing itself into my hkey modules/files? It's often the files called hkey that try to delete the list of startup modules (sometimes it comes from the System 32 file or similar files) and Kaspersky intercepts it. Me, being stupid and before I realised it must be a virus, once allowed it to, and then, of course, the next time I booted up my computer, it wouldn't boot. I managed to reverse it after some frustration thankfully, but I still have no idea how to get rid of a virus once it's infected my computer. Kaspersky won't identify it, nor does Windows Defender (no surprise there). Other than those programs the only other defensive program I have is PC Tools Spyware Doctor which naturally doesn't detect anything. I'm afraid to download any other programs which might help. I don't want to make things worse.

Also, the internet browsers won't work ... Read more

None have worked. I need a 168 pin, PC 133, VC SDRAM, Non-ECC(64 bit) 3.3V with total max of 768. I can't change the position they are in, or one doesn't show up. I have the Micron 68 in the middle. Should I assume that the only ram stick compatible would be another Micron stick? I have tired kingston, pny, other known brands. My computer is past 3 years old. I am trying to beef it up. I have a radeon 8500 graphics card, I play games and would love the extra ram.

Next question. Is it common for a DVD ROM disk drive to burn out after 3 1/2 years? Mine started to run loud and is now heating up. Been using the other(non-DVD) disk drive for games.

What is the life expectency of a computer? I also have one fan that is starting to rattle when I first turn the computer on. Should I start saving for a new one and stop spending money on this one? Thanks

In MS Access you can write VBA code that allows you to manipulate the existing VBA code in standard and class modules by using the Modules collection of the application object.

In Access VBA, the Application.Modules collection contains only open modules

I am trying to do a similar same thing in Excel but with no luck.

There appears to be an undocumented Modules collection in Excel but the Modules.Count always comes back as zero. If this works the same way as in Access VBA, then none of the modules are officially "open" (including the one I'm executing).

Anyone have any experience doing this sort of thing in MS Excel VBA?

I just want to write some quick and dirty code to do some rudimentary analysis of an Excel application that was dropped on my desk. I want to do things like counting lines of code, and identifying the entry points and global declarations.

Yes, I can cut and paste all of the code into a text file and analyze that but I was looking for a more elegant solution.

I have been upgrading my cables for LAN and Sat TV. I am almost ready to "clean up" the wiring. I was looking at rj45 modules, coax modules, and wall plates. Before I get myself into trouble, will someone please answer a few questions for me?
1.) Are "keystone" and "leviton" modules and plates interchangeable or do I have to stay with one or the other.
2.) Are all rj45 modules the same? Some seem to say Cat 5 others Cat5e and others Cat 6. I ran Cat5e cable for my expansion and update and want to be sure I get the right modules. I purchased bulk cable and a crimp tool and successfully made up my own cables, so I feel pretty comfortable that I will be OK "punching down" the cable to the module. Also saw some modules that did not require a punch down tool.

Basically I just want to end up with several two or three port wall plates with modules for TV (f connector), LAN (rj45 module) and regular telephone.

Any insight would be appreciated.

A:Solved: Modules and Wall Plates

You should stick with one brand. I use the Leviton ones here, and they've worked out fine for me. The only difference between them might be the CAT6, some CAT6 cable (but not all) is 23ga instead of 24ga like CAT5/5e. If you have CAT5e, CAT5 connectors and jacks are compatible, they're the same thing. The Leviton ones I used recently have a plastic cover that presses the wires into the block, no tool required.

I have an ECS K7S5A motherboard w/a SIS 735 chipset, AMD Athlon XP chip. I was running 2 256k memory modules in my system, Accubyte brand. One went bad so I'm now down to one 256k module. I've tried installing two different 1 GB modules in my board and neither worked. (One generic industry standard and one Samsung module.) Both times the system went thru the bootup routine fine, checked memory and hd's etc, but then when it got to the point it should boot into Windows, it just sits there.

The memory module specs: PC2100 (64x8) 16C 266Mhz DDR 184Pin DIMM. The 256k module, the one that works in my machine, is made by Accubyte, but I can't find that anywhere on the internet.

The manual for the mb says it will take 1 GB of memory, so that's not the problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am sick of running on only 256k!

When using the Call statement in Access VBA, is there a way to use a dynamic value for the Sub or Function name. For instance,

Dim MyVariableFunction as String
MyVariableFunction = "Func1"
Call MyVariableFunction

Where "Func1" is the name of a function. The above code obviously doesn't work. A string is not a valid argument for the Call statement, only a Sub or Function name is allowed.

I want to run different subroutines based on the value of a variable. I prefer not to build an If..Then..Else or Select Case with all the possible values but that is what I'm facing unless someone can help.

A:Access VBA - Using Call Statement

There is indeed a hierarchy you can set to call specific procedures in specific modules.

I've been programming in Access for over 5 years, I've never once used it.

While it might sound practical, it is actually only useful if you are actually creating modules on the fly (if I understand your situation, you're not, you just want to call them on the fly), which you would be doing only in the rarest of cases.

If you think about it, it's about the worst documenting situation you can think of. All good code--and I do mean all, and I do mean good--should be immediately readable to a competent developer, because you may some day be hit by a train, but your app needs to keep going. Procedure calls are not variables; variables are variables.

I'd recommend doing the work to use if then or select case.

Once you have the properties window displaying, you can select the module. In the properties window you will see a field like "(Name)". Out to the right, enter the name of the module you would like to see.

In an Access routine, how can I call an Excel subroutine.

I'm rewriting a very messy Excel application that should've been done as an Access database in the first place, except that it has some intense VBA calculations embedded in it and the users expect to see output in Excel sheets and graphs.

I don't have time to move all of the code to Access (especially since it would mean rewriting tons of references to named ranges). Instead, I'm going to make all of the data files that exist in separate data tables into Access tables, and I'm going to create some Access entry forms.

But there are a handful of buttons in the main Excel spreadsheet that kick off a series of calculations. I want to have a button on my Access form kick off the calculations.
EDITED: Okay, you can ignore this question. I was using ObjExcel.Run and it wasn't working because my procedure was on a sheet and not in a module. When I moved it to a module, it started working.

You guessed it I am trying to get your attention. Until recently I have done quite well solving business problem using Excel, However my next project is to replace a paper based quality control system with a software solution that I can run off a Palm Pilot or similar device. Let me explain:

1) the receiver has to receive ingredients and log vital statistics on a form, - how much, what it was, the lot number, the carrier, etc

2) the formulator has to select certain ingredients and make a product, here again a paper record tracks, lot numbers, ingredient names, etc

3) the QC person has to check the product during manufacture and record vitals such a lot Number, temperature, colour. Texture, etc
4) if something does wrong and we have to recall a product we need to know - what was produced, where it went to, quantities, how many products are impacted, etc.

I want to build a database with the appropriate forms, report generation capability and product traceability (product recall) capability.

I am told Excel is not the product to use and the name MySQL and Access has been mentioned. Problem is, at this time I do not want to use the web; I simply want an internal system that is fast, effective and reliable.

Maybe you understand the essence of my application (food quality control) and can offer some ideas.

Hi, I'm looking for some advice regarding my girlfriends laptop.
Yesterday her brother took a call from somebody claiming to be from TalkTalk, and unfortunately they were able to take control of the laptop after claiming to have noticed problems and needing remote access to solve the issues. He was instructed to download TeamViewer. My girlfriend returned home during this call and took over after becoming suspicious with the nature of the call and after some questioning the caller quickly hung up. An attempt to withdraw a substantial amount from a bank account was denied shortly after or during the call.
I've since uninstalled TeamViewer.
My question really is, would there potentially be anything malicious left behind after this attack? And what is the best course of action to take now?
Many thanks

A:Scam call, remote access gained, what to do now?

Yes!  You will need to scour the hard-drive with several anti-virus and anti-malware programs, both online and downloadable/installable.  Do you have current external image backups of the OS and the Data partitions?  If yes, you can choose to simply restore right over the entire laptop.  The regular BC malware team should be along shortly.  Let them know what external usb and/or dvd boot material you have on hand.

Hey Guys,

I'm still fairly new in vba coding and need some help!!

I have two buttons on my form - SAVE and CLOSE. I have added certain validations on SAVE button and want that whenever someone Clicks on CLOSE, it calls the SAVE button first and then close the form only if all validations are satisfied. When I use the below mentioned code, it calls the SAVE button perfectly and gives pop-ups wherever validations are not met. However, it does not stop there and still closes the form. And yes, every validation in SAVE button already has "Exit Sub" added to it.

Private Sub Command61_Click()

Call Command41_Click

DoCmd.Close acForm, "QAWorkflow", acSaveYes
DoCmd.OpenForm "WelcomeForm", acNormal

Thanks in Advance!

A:Call Button not working properly in MS Access

You need to set a Public Variable that can pass it's value back to the Command61_Click() sub.
Then you would have a line of code after the Call line with something like

If dontcloseform = 1 then exit sub.

the variable dontcloseform would be set to zero before the Call line
dontcloseform = 0

then in the Command41_Click sub instead of just exit sub you would have
dontcloseform = 1
exit sub
Thus when the code comes back from the Command41_Click sub the new line would trigger an exit code before the form is closed.

ps I assume that you are aware that Access automatically saves any new records or edited records and that if you do not want the data saved you have to "undo" the record.

I need some help. I have created a database of personnel information and I am working on the search criteria using Visual Basic. The options are to choose a project year (cboProjectyear) and/or a Discipline (cboDiscipline) and/or inspector's name (cboInspectors) I have 4 disciplines to choose from. I have part of my searches working fine if just a Discipline is selected. I need to be able to do a search if someone selects:

a particular discipline and a year
a particular inspector and a year
just a year.
My inspector table does has discipline in it so if an Inspector is selected the appropriate Discipline can be called. I am adding in my code for just the discipline. Can someone help please! Do I use an sfilter? If so how to write it properly to call multiple options.

If cboDiscipline.Value = "2" Then
DoCmd.OpenReport "AArptname", acViewPreview
If cboDiscipline.Value = "3" Then
DoCmd.OpenReport "SArptname", acViewPreview
If cboDiscipline.Value = "4" Then
DoCmd.OpenReport "EErptname", acViewPreview
If cboDiscipline.Value = "5" Then
DoCmd.OpenReport "MErptname", acViewPreview
MsgBox "Please select a Discipline"
End If
End If
End If
End If

Recently this has stopped working and i am receiving the error

Sometimes i will receive this error and other times it will just hang

The error happens on other computers at the workplace as well so its not isolated to a single computer

Getting ready to install Win 7 Pro on my XP installation machine. Put in new Motherboard/CPU/Memory but my XP Pro installation will not boot ?

Same Sata hard drive being used with unchanged XP installation.

Have done many motherboard/cpu upgrades in past without issues. I'm wondering if the XP "Genuine Advantage" stuff is causing the no-boot ?

I have not done anything with Win 7 yet...still waiting for UPS delivery !

Hoping I do not have to remove all the new hardware and replace the old and then boot again and THEN call Microsoft ? ( Have licensed/registered XP Pro box & disks here )

The error screen I am getting is something like " Sorry...Windows wouldn't load...maybe new hardware/software/compatibility issues"...I have a bunch of loading options including safe mode and last good configurations...but all options lead to a reboot and the same screen ?

Win XP loading screen does appear for a second...but then system reboots ?

Any Ideas on what the issues might be and how to fix it will be greatly appreciated !!

A:Procedures for adding new MB/CPU to Win XP Pro

Unless you replace the hardware with the same items you will have to wipe your hard drive and reinstall Windows. The OS marries itself to be compatible with the hardware it is connected to with drivers that is why it does not want to cooperate with your new motherboard. CPU/Memory should not matter but different MB's will use different drivers.

Simple question. I'm looking for documentation to describe the difference between "logoff userid" and "restart". What are the differences to the system.

Any insight or direction will be greatly appreciated.

A:Shutdown procedures

As far as i am aware ..

Logoff will unload all programs in use and log off the person logged on.

Restart will do that al well as clear memory.

In short, logoff is just a faster way to switch users.

Need WinMovMkr "Step-by-Step" Procedure(s)

You will need to put on a pot of coffee before beginning to read this novel. Sorry, but I wanted to offer as much info as someone might need.

My objective is to receive a 'step-by-step' procedure, from one of you experienced experts, to produce a ".wmv" (Windows Movie) file which will play on someone else's PC with their version of Windows Media Player, their monitor (which is probably not wide screen), AND not lose the aspect ratio of the movie I created. Neither should it distort the Sound, as Windows Media Player does.

When I playback my .wmv files from my computer's hard drive with VLC Media Player -- they play perfectly, both video and audio. Windows Media Player never plays them properly.

I do not want to buy new software or hardware. I know my system is truly outdated, but it still works.

Here's what I'm working with:
* Windows XP Home Editon (SP2). I do not want to update SP2 to SP3, for reasons of my own! Please, don't suggest it.
* 2GB's system RAM.
* Monitor: Acer model H233H (23" wide, High Definition), running at 1280pix x 768pix, 32-bit color.
* Windows Media Player ver 11.0.5721.5268.
* Windows Profile Editor.
* Windows Media Encoder ver
* FRAPS 3.4.1 Build 13142
* VLC Media Player ver 1.1.11
* WavePad "Master's Edition" Sound Editor (registered, paid/licensed user) vers 4.46.

Before I uopgrade to Win 10.....

I have 2 Win 7 Pro installations. On The 32bit machine...I want to move the MD from the 64bit machine to the 32bit machine.

Have read many post but I seem to get more confused the more I read.. Will I have to call Microsoft after move motherboard in box A to box B and replacing in the A box with a new MB/CPU combo ?

If not...what's the best way to proceed if I can avoid calling MS ( although I did previously with one of this systems when reinstalling) ? Both are licensed registered (with MS) copies of Windows Pro with serial number pockets in-tact.

Some posts say Acronis...some say Paragon(?) free product...some say (sysprep ?) I have Acronis 2013 and create 'clones' fairly regularly stored on external USB drive(s)

We have the licensed installation DVD for both OS's on the two machines

A:Procedures for moving MB from one PC to another

Could you supply some more info. Are you planning just to move the MB from A to B & still use the 32 bit drive in B. If you want to have B with a 64 bit drive you will have to reinstall Windows in the old 32 bit drive.

Or, you could move the MB from A to B as planned & change the A hard drive to B as well. That should be fairly easy. That will leave you with a 32 bit hard drive that is of no use, unless you can use it for something else.

Do you want to do a fresh install of Windows 10 or just do an upgrade. If you want to do a W 10 upgrade on A after the hardware change, you will have to have a copy of Windows 7 on the hard drive & this could be a problem if you want the 64 bit version of W 10 & you have moved that hard drive to B.

The problem seems that you might end up with 2 installations of the same Windows 7 Pro 64 which is a breach of the license.

We use weather.com radar maps for scientific research and watch the weather avidly. We put in the city, state and at the bottom of that page there is an interactive map using virtual earth that shows the weather radar and you can zoom in and so on. Last week it quit working. It's the only thing that isn't working and it's a major pain. Normally when you click on the map to make it larger and animate it, it goes to a new window and starts the radar moving. Now it show a blank square, everything else comes up, ads, so on, just not the radar. There is an error code that pops up at the bottom of the screen with a yellow triangle and an exclamation point. When I click on it this is what it says " CHAR 6660 ....unexpected call to property or method access"

I have checked windows for any further updates, ran virus check, spybot, updated Java...updated adobe player, flash player. Nothing changes. the radar map still doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to use the Win7 Backup Program and have a couple of questions:

I did a backup of my C-drive to my external harddrive and it backup up ok. But, it did not put the back in a Folder on the E-drive, just put the backup file on the drive under the name of the C-drive. Question, I normally retain 2-3 backups in other backup programs, but don't know if I can backup again with Win7 Backup and it will retain the previous one and not overwrite it - so, I can maintain a number of backups?

Second, I tested the Restore File function, but restoring a backed up file to a different folder on the backed up drive, and it put it there but deleted the file from the original location? It there a way to tell it to not delete the previous file when restoring the backup file to a different location?

Thanks for any insights/suggestions.

A:Win7 Backup Procedures?

"so, I can maintain a number of backups?"=>yes no problem at all. Just try it.
" but restoring a backed up file to a different folder on the backed up drive, and it put it there but deleted the file from the original location?" => it doesn't delete anything at all! It only supersedes the file if it's already there.
