Solved: System Cannot Aquire Network Adress Netgear Wireless Adaptor

Q: Solved: System Cannot Aquire Network Adress Netgear Wireless Adaptor

Hi! I have had to reboot my computer recently due to possible infection and whilst before my wireless connection was absoluley fine now I am having problems. I have connected the adaptor as instructed by Negear and it can find the network, but will not allow me to aquire a network address. I have two laptops (and i-phones) on the network and all these appear to work OK so I assume that the router and modem are working fine and the problem lies with the settings on my computer. When I go onto properties of the connection I find the IP/TP protocol and this is set up to get IP address automatically. When I input a manual IP address it says that it is connected but I cannot get onto the internet. I am totally confused. I managed to get it set up before but don't know where to go next. Any suggestions would be extremley appreiated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My son's computer shows that the signal strength is excellent, but the when I click on Status, it shows 297 send/22 received and he can't get to the internet. We have tried the ipconfig / release and renew. We have tried reinstalling the driver for the MA101 wireless adaptor. We have checked the workgroup name and SSID wireless name. Had this problem on two other pc's on our wireless network, but finally got them going. His computer is Windows XP and I cannot get it to connect. Can someone please help? I did check to see if he recently upgraded Windows XP hotfix that I read about, but he did not. We have to manually set the IP address too. It has been working fine until two days ago. Had to replace the router, but the other computers are now working fine on the network. Thanks.

A:MA101 Netgear wireless adaptor help!!!

Installed this unit on a desktop PC with XP SP1. The only way I could make it work was to disable encryption on my access point. I am connecting into a Belkin Acces Point that works very well with my Speedstream NIC's in 2 laptops I have, with encryption ON.They have alot more built into their drivers and utilities than my USB Netgear MA-101. The Netgear utility is missing a Site Survey Tab or someway to Sniff Wireless SSID's. It also has no encryption tab. Thank goodness for XPSP2.I upgraded to Xp SP2 and was able to get this device working with a very low level of encryption.A ten bit string in a manual setting of 64 bit encryption. I am willing to accept that, cause I have at least 2 other Wireless networks around me that are very vunerable without any encryption. So far the USB Netgear MA-101 seems to be working ok....I would not reccomend to anyone to go without encryption though, cause there is to much malacious stuff that can happen over your DSL or Cable Broadband connection that will cause alot of heat to be put on yourself.

I have just recently started searching symantec for that possibility but havent found anything yet, still searching.

The only firewall we have is the default windows firewall which is turned off because it would otherwise interfere with our monitor/ticketing system. I do not know about the users home wireless access points outside of work tho. Will check on that... if the users know.

Any help gratetfully received in advance

problem

This netgear product (Wireless modem router with adaptor )was purchased by family as a present. They noted the outside of the box which quoted both Windows and Mac compatible. The buyer knew we have a dual OS Mac and Windows household. However the ideal scenario would be for the PC to be hard wired and the Mac to run off the usb adaptor but examining the kit it is clear there is no Mac driver for the usb adaptor. Upon further investigation it would seem there is not a driver for the adaptor and netgear do not intend to support the adaptor for use on Mac. They direct to a third party supplier who wishes to charge for the driver software and only supports cards not usb connections.
Apart from the obviously mis-leading pack details; certainly a bad show on netgears' part, I am left considering if any else knows the whereabouts of a driver that will run this adaptor on the mac.
System is OS 10.4

thank you

regards

I am having home network problems and one step suggested to me was to uninstall then reinstall the network adaptors on both of my computers.

My laptop was on the network via wireless. I tried to uninstall the wireless adpator but I think I uninstalled some associated software by mistake (there is a list of about 6 software items in each network adaptor properties, including TCP/IP IPV6 and IPV4 for example.) I then ended up with the wireless network adaptor disappearing completely.

The network adaptor "Local Area Connector" is still there, and under its properties I can see that TCP/IPIPV4 and IPV6 are still listed, but no other elements of software. I am now using an ethernet connection to my router to stay connected.

After losing the network adaptor, I rebooted in safe mode in case the system would be able to reinstall automatically and then rebooted normally. No wireless network adaptor. In case it was a driver problem, I went to the Dell website and reinstalled the right network driver for my XPS1530 laptop. That made no difference, still the wireless adaptor is not listed.

I then ran the Windows troubleshooter and managed to get a message "Intel(rR) WiFi Link 4965AGN adaptor is experiencing driver or hardware related problems".

Help please. As you can tell I know enough to be dangerous and not enough to be useful. What do I need to do to get my WiFI network adaptor back? Have I deleted software that other adaptors need as well?

A:Solved: cant aquire network ip address

I have also done this:You want and need to encrypt your wireless signal. Login to your router via your browser, go to the wireless section and enable WPA (or WPA2 if supported by router and laptop) encryption. Use a passphrase of 20+ letters and numbers. You will then need to give the same passphrase the next time you connect the laptop.
It was working .Do I have to make any changes to the laptop. I clicked repair to renew the ip address and it said it couldnt .

For awhile every now and then my computer decides it needs to 'acquire network address' on booting up. It never does succeed unless prompted by my going into Wireless Connections and pressing 'repair'. Yet my connection to the Internet is not impeded even while the little yellow ball hovers round mini monitor in the taskbar. It is hovering now as this thread is written.
ipconfig reveals Connection Specific DNS suffix is missing, but the IP Address is there. My ZyXel 7087 router shows a fixed W/LAN/WPS and DSL light, but the Internet light is continually flickering, regardless of whether the computer is on.
The TCP/IP is set to,'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. Advanced TCP/IP Settings shows DHCP Enabled. DNS tab - DNS server addresses box is blank 'Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes' is dotted and 'Append parent suffixes of the primary suffix' is ticked. 'Append these DNS suffixes (in order)' is unchecked. WINS addresses box is blank. 'Enable LMHOSTS lookup' is ticked. NetBIOS setting - Default (checked) - Use NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server. If static IP address is used or the DHCP server does not provide NetBIOS setting enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Enable & Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP unchecked. Can anyone resolve this issue. PS While reading the WNC status the computer has found the Network address, but all above remains true.

A:[SOLVED] Aquire Network address No DNS Suffix

In the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. The IP address turns to 0.0.0.0 now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew and press enter. Now Do an ipconfig /all copy it and paste it in your next post.

It may not be your computer at all, it may be your router. Try unplugging power to the router with the Wifi on it, for 10 seconds, then plug it back in, if your Wifi connection is saved in the Wifi List, it will auto reconnect.

I'll keep this short!

I did a clean install of vista home premium on my Compal JFT00 over the weekend and loaded up all the drivers on the supplier's CD for this model.

Since the vista install the notebook cannot seem to find a wireless network adaptor. There's nothing listed for wireless under adaptors on the device manager however there is suddenly an 'unknown device' and when rebooting the machine is finding new hardware...an ethernet adaptor. Putting in the supplier's CD or the vista CD to find the software for this stray ethernet adaptor doesn't work and there's a 'generic marvell yukon' ethernet adaptor listed in the device manager which says it's configured correctly.

Could this unknown adaptor possibly be the wireless adaptor? If so, I'm a bit confused why installing the drivers from the CD isn't working. I've tried downloading and installing the latest Intel and Atheros WAN drivers from the compal site here. it's not worked.

Does anyone have any idea?

We've recently switched to wireless broadband and it's working great, easy to set up, fast internet, etc.

Except I think something on the PC is killing off the wireless network adaptors? We plug it in, install the software and set it up, everything is fine and dandy...until someone turns it off! Once the PC has been switched off, it no longer recognises the adaptor, it won't access the internet and can't see that the adaptor is plugged in at all. The USB sockets are working fine.

The first time we took the wireless network adaptor back to PC world and they said it was broken and replaced it, the second time(exact same problem) they said it was fine and didn't replace it.

Where do we go from here? My mother(whose computer it is) seems to think McAfee might be causing the problem because it cries out for updates whenever we switch the computer on(can't update it, no internet), I'm convinced it's the network adaptor, if the first one was broken, maybe it's a faulty batch? Can't run a virus scan as McAfee won't do anything until it's been updated/re-registered. I don't think it's a virus though as nothing else is acting up and we haven't been able to access the internet on that computer for some time ;p

I also tried plugging the adaptor into my ibook to see if it would recognise it and nothing appeared(although I'm pretty sure it's not Mac compatible anyway, but I imagine it should show up?)... Read more

A:PC is killing wireless network adaptor?

the adapter should have a little light on it indicating that it's powered up or active.

i'd try uninstalling the software from the add/remove programs utility in the control panel, and then reinstalling. and try restarting before you try connecting. and maybe unplug the adapter when you turn it off and plug it back in while windows is starting up.

oh, is it an older belkin model? ... you might be able to find an updated software version online. that also might help.

let me know how all that works out!

Wow, this issue sounds soooo familiar. But I don't recall the resolution, or even if there was one. I put together 15 used Dell WinXP machines last year for a non-profit and there seemed to be one or two out of the group that resisted installing a USB WiFi. Never found a resolution as those could be put to other purposes.

As far as my own computer goes, had difficulty with WiFi PCI cards and USB WiFi but those were always resolved by carefully following the manufacturers installation instructions. Sometimes I would not bother reading and they wouldn't work so I'd have to uninstall and read the manual, then reinstall. Sorry, can't be more help then that.

Hopefully, someone with a better memory will be by soon and notice your thread.

I'm tired of talking to tech support when I usually get better help here. So anyway...
I have this qwest 2wire usb wireless adaptor. And supposedly its just supposed to be just some sort of plug and play type of thing. Every tech I've talked to said that my computer should automatically see that there's an added peice of hardware(which it does). But there's no software for it, my computer is supposed to just detect and promt me for secure log in to Wi-Fi protected access. But all it does is detect the hardware, and then when I go to device manager its under that yellow question mark on Other devices/USB device.

Am I missing a driver for my USB ports? I'm just lost, and qwest tech support doesn't help, just tells me to see my pc manufacturer if its not detecting it, which I don't think is really necessary. Any help would be great.

I'll post my specs just in case it will help.

recently a probelm has occured with my wireless network. I have been using this wireless USB adapter from linksy for about a year with no problems its been quick and stable. but recently ive ran into a massive roadblock. I was playing a game id recently installed (aquired legally on CD) and before i began to play i disconnected from the internet (like id done a hundred times before) so i could free up the connection for other people in my house. when i went to reconnect to the network I got greeted with the message "the capability of your network adapter does not match the requirements of this network". Nothing had been changed in the time i disconnected from the internet and attempted to get back on it. at first I thought maybe the device is failing? because no one else in my house cant access the internet. im typing this from my laptop whilst my primary computer is showing me the error message now. anyway i installed the wireless adaptor and entered in my password to connect to the wireless network I usually do and the thing connects and runs flawlessly. so i retunred to my usual computer and uninstalled everything related to the device all the drivers and settings etc and reinstalled a new. everything is fine until the time comes to enter the password in. I enter the password correctly and then i get greeted with "the capability of your network adapter does not match the requirements of this network" error message only now my network status is stuck at ... Hi,

The internet which I was accessing through wireless, stopped working suddenly on my Compaq Pressario V6000 laptop.I am able to access the wireless internet through one of my Desktop but not through my laptop which proves that the router is fine. The LAN is working fine on the laptop but it does not show any Wireless tab for configuration under the Network connection's menu.

I checked the network adaptors and I am using nVIDEA NFORCE networking controller.I am sure this should be supporting wireless connection. The adaptor is enabled and working fine.

I checked the Wireless button also on the laptop and it is fine,I tried running the HP Wireless Assistant utility but it does not run at all.I do not know how I can re-install it to run.

Now pl. let me know.
1.How can I re-install HP Wireless Assistant?
2.How can I check whether the wireless device is enabled?
3.How can I solve this problem?

Try unistalling the card in the device manager and then rebooting the PC to have Windows reinstall it.

Just purchased a new computer from best buy today with windows 7 (obviously), along with that I also purchased a belkin branded wireless network adaptor. I follow the setup directions all the way through until it tells me to restart the computer for the software to work. When it boots back up, it recognizes the network adaptor but the driver for the adaptor is non-existent like it never installed in the first place, thus the adaptor not being able to work and connect to the internet. I've also tried installing the driver with windows firewall turned off, but still no luck.

Here's the model number for the adaptor: F6D4050 v2

As a side note, this is my first computer that I've bought brand new....Everything else I always bought used, so I'm sorta on a rough start lol. Any help would be much appreciated.

The maximum FCC permited transmit power is +15dBm, coupling to an impedance matched antenna caused 50% power loss which is -3db down. Most standard built-in antennas are 2dBi to 4dBi and brought the aparent radiated transmit power back to normalize maximum.

Hello. I appear unable to install any USB wireless network adaptor on my computer. The symptoms:

After following the manufacturers' installation process:
The device appears in the device manager and, when inspecting properties, shows it is working properly
The device appears in network connections as enabled — disabling and then re-enabling does not affect the problem
When running Windows' diagnostic, I get an error message saying the adaptor is experiencing driver or hardware related issues
Running the Windows' repair tool, which attempts to reset the adaptor, has no effect

I've tried three different makes and models all with similar results, so I don't think the problem is with the adaptor. I am running Vista 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron desktop. My system meets the specifications for all three models and I have checked that I am using the correct drivers (installation CD and manufacturers' support sites). This all points to the problem being somewhere on my computer, but I don't know how to diagnose or correct the issue. I would really appreciate any advice you can give.

Many thanks.

can we see the following information/do the following with an adapter plugged in

ipconfig /all
xirrus screen shot
device manager
tcp/ip reset

Do you have any firewall / security suite on the system at all OR had in the past - like Norton, Mcafee

Do you have any wireless adapter utilities running - the manufacturer will try and install its own adapter utility software and they can interfere with windows adapter utility - WLAN config on vista
if you have installed three adapters you nay have three different applications running

Make and model of the adapter you have running now with all the tests (also post back the make and model of the other adapters)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

Hi.

I am having problems trying to set up my wireless broadband service using a D-Link N router. I have had no problem connecting it through the Ethernet cable from the modem to the desktop PC for a while now but when attempting to install the wireless router through the CD I get the error message "No Ethernet Adaptor found! Please check your network connections." My specs are:

Windows XP,
ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with nVidia GeForce 6150 (C51) + MCP51 chipset and an
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ processor.

I have tried updating drivers, etc and nothing seems to work! Can any of you tell me where I am going wrong? Do I need a new adaptor? If the answer is obvious then please feel free to ridicule me, I am not exactly very clued up. Any help that can be offered will be greatly appreciated as I am slowly going mad with this situation.

Hello, I have been having a lot of issues with my USB wireless network adaptor. At random, it will disconnect from the internet and will only let me have local connection. I have been able to get around this by removing the usb and plugging it into a new usb slot (which is very annoying). But the worst part is that my computer keeps randomly getting BSOD. I checked the driver and it is up to date. I even uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it from here https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wirel...et=24&system=4.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, but all the drives on that site are for Vista. Could that be the issue?

Also, I'm new to these forums so if you need more info, let me know.

This is quite straightforward, the driver is incompatible with Windows 7,
therefore the device should not be used with it.

Long story short, I am trying to install a new usb wireless router on my laptop, I have tried using three different adapters all of which once the drivers are installed show either a "unidentified", or "public" network. They all connect to the network, and I am able to browse through the other computer on the network but there is no internet. The old adapter works on both pc's, but none of the other three work on either pc (other pc is running Vista, would rather work with 7). So how do I get a different adapter to work? The internal adapter got to where it just would not get a signal and when it did it was slow, but I tried it again just because, and had the same problem with it, it would not change to a home network, what is going on?

ps. The old usb adapter works for about 2-3 hours then it gets hot and quits until it cools off, then it works again.

Have you tried going into the Network and Sharing center then to the left side choose "Manage Wireless Connections" using the manual wireless set up there to make sure that all settings are correct to access your new USB router.

It might also be required that you go into the routers wireless set up page to choose the settings you want to use.

As for the Unidentified network problem, you sometimes need to make manual adjustments to fix that problem. The link below shows you how.

Hi,
I am having a Toshiba Satellite A105 - S 4114 with Windows XP, SP3. I was using the LAN & Wireless network adaptor without any problem. A week back Windows XP got updated & from then LAN & Wifi network adaptor are not getting detected.
In the device manage both the adaptors are not preset. If I add the adaptors from the ‘Add Hardware’ its getting added as Intel PRO/1000 PL network connection#2 & Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection#2 but its not working.

I am using the following adaptors with version (working):-
LAN network adaptor: Intel PRO/1000 PL network connection, Version 9.2.24.0

Wireless network adaptor: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection, Version 10.1.0.13

I tried to download the new drives for both the adaptors, but nothing is working.
Please let me know the solution

Thanks in advance,
Vini

A:Cannot detect network adaptor in my system.

Hiya Vini_2603.

It`s odd that they`ve disappeared from Device Manager and not just flagged up as a problem item. Do you have anything at all under Network Adapters?

In Dev Man, right-click the computers name at the very top and `Scan for hardware changes` to see if that comes up with anything.

The drivers are no good if the adapters aren`t being seen to start with !

Hey all,

I have starting using a second hand Toshiba laptop with a Windows Vista operating system.

When I got it everything worked fine:

I uninstalled the Norton Anti virus software on it and install the free AVG anti virus.

I also installed the microsoft office 2010 pack.

However I turned on the computer today and inserted a USB data key and the computer regonized it initially but then when I went to my computer I couldn't find it. Then I realised that the networks adapter had stopped working and I could no longer connect to the internet.

After a bit of fiddling around on the help bar I tried to update the drivers for the RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b but this did not solve the problem - the update simply said the best driver was already installed.

I have also tried a systems restore but this didn't work either.

Does anyone have any ideas for on how I can solve this issue??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Best wishes,

Dan

I just moved from California to Tennessee. In california my computer had a LAN connection to the router ( Netgear N600 WNDR3400). Here that isn't an option (the router is in a different room and set up with a different computer).

So, when I turned on my pc and tried to connect to the wireless network i received notice that it had a red x next to my network's name and said "The capability of your network adapter does not match the requirements of this network." At first I thought maybe this had to do with the security but my network has WPA2-PSK which is, oddly enough, the same encryption that another network I can detect has. My network, it claims, has no signal while the other one I can detect has a very slight one.
First thing I tried was resetting the router. That didn't work. Then I looked at other comps in the house.
The signals I was receiving contradict the mac laptop (i know, sling all the hate on it that you want, it is a useful cross-check right now though) which gets a strong signal from my network right next to my pc while getting a very weak/no signal from the other network that my PC is detecting. Odd. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for my network adapter (Belkin Wireless Pre-N Notebook Network Card).

Anyway, I don't know a lot about computers (and even less about wireless network setup) so any help would be fantastic. It is an odd problem I think though maybe someone has seen it before?

Hello,

First and foremost...I have basically no knowledge of computers, and computer networking. So, what I say is going to be very basic, and whatever advice you give...please dumb it down as much as possible :-) Thank you!

Now for the back story to my current problem:

I have an Acer Aspire 5733Z-4851, had Windows 7 on it. No discs..everything came preloaded onto the computer.

Computer was running very sluggishly, and almost everything would come up "Not Responding". Ran AVG. Came back with something along the lines of 45k problems. Tried fixing..everytime I would fix..it would freeze. Figured that whatever virus/adware that was on there wouldn't allow AVG to fix, so I saved all of my pictures/documents onto a flash drive, and started a "System Restore to Factory Settings."

The computer started the system restore, on "Step 3 of 32, Microsoft" it stuck. Let it stay that way overnight, figuring maybe it just takes that long....it was stuck for almost 16 hours on that same step. Obviously not working anymore...so I turned the computer off, and tried to Restart in Safe Mode.

No go...said it couldn't finish restoring in Safe Mode, that it needed to be in the regular startup mode. So I turned off again, and restarted in normal. THIS time, the computer booted to the logon screen. I am the administrator, so I clicked on the picture that said "Administrator". Popup said that "the administrator account has been disabled, plea... Read more

A:Wireless Network Adaptor for Windows Vista not Picking Up Any Networks

I have moved your post the vista forum since this is not a networking issue.

Usual recommendation is to look at Device Manager and the Network section. Identify the network card and then download the vista drivers for it. You should be able to do this from your husbands laptop.

Problem you are going to have with Vista is registering it with Microsoft. Its already activated with your husbands laptop. Consider contacting who sold you the computer to get the Win7 disk or restore disk.

BTW you were doing a System Restore Point not a Reset to Factory. Reset to factory is done via boot selection upon bootup and isn't done from within Windows.

Reset to factory would have been the correct step.

Hello,

Having an issue getting this adapter to run smoothly in Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have installed the driver from the site and it runs ok to a point:

WG111 - NETGEAR.com

- The install comes with Netgear wireless software that scans for the hotspot and I am able to connect to my home wireless network. Somehow both the Netgear software and Windows Network and Sharing Center are connected; when I reboot the computer, I need to use the Netgear software to connect to my network, and then Network and Sharing Center is able to map my network successfully.

However when I try to connect to my wireless via Network and Sharing Center alone I'm not able to do it. I have to use the Netgear software first.

How can I configure this so that the network is automatically setup when my computer boots?

Thanks

A:Netgear Wireless-G USB Network Adapter

Most wireless devices come with software that will look for and connect to local wireless networks. I do not have your software, but it may have a "profiles" setting that will allow connection when that newtwork is detected.

Ok I need help, I have found the Subnet, the Broadcast address, and class.

For example let's take address 10.17.231.88, I know the class is A because the range the first set of numbers is in, the Subnet is 255.0.0.0, or in this case this is the default, and lastly the broadcast is 10.255.255.255.

Am I overlooking the obvious? I mean the broadcast for a class B would be with the IP 147.212.16.0 would be 147.212.255.255

Why am I lost I mean what gives am i not understanding the network address
