Preferred Solution: Firefox Crashes when loading large pages

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

(Talking about Firefox in the following sentence; using IE at the moment.) Just right about now, if I tried to go to a different website, such as Google, by typing "www.google.com" in the address bar, it will load, then a second later, it will crash and show the Mozilla Quality Feedback Agent thing. It started doing this a minute ago, and it seems to do this too if I restore a session. Anybody else having the same problem or is it just me?

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

Hello everyone.

I just got a new computer. I decided I wanted to install windows myself and so I opted for a formatted hard drive.

I just installed Windows 7 on my machine. I have it directly connected to the router. I can connect to google and msn, but whenever I browse for any other web page, it stalls during the loading and crashes my internet.

When I ping google.com, I get an 100%. All packets go through.

When I ping anything else but google, I get 0%.

The other computers on my connection have no problem and can access these web pages. Its just my new desktop. This occurs both in IE and Firefox. I have all of the drivers downloaded that came from the Asus motherboard installation CD including the Realtek PCIe drivers. I also installed the video card drivers.

Suddenly, about two weeks ago Firefox 10 stopped loading web pages. The "connecting" circle keeps spinning and absolutely nothing happens. I love Firefox and have to say that this is one of the most bizarre computing frustrations I've ever experienced. I have Thunderbird email and may have found a temporary way around it: I right click on "Reload tab" on the website tab I'm trying to access. I have to do it several times for it to connect to the site. I uninstalled FF 10 and reinstalled 9 to see if the problem persisted: it does.
I actually had to use Internet Explorer (!) a few times to be able to access the various websites, and I downloaded Chrome as a temporary stop-gap measure in case FF doesn't work at all. Although I don't want to use any browser but Firefox, this malfunctioning is getting me down a lot; I might be going to Chrome permanently. What can be causing this vexing problem of web pages not loading? [I have Windows 7 Profession 32 bit SP1] Thanks for your ideas. ec

I downloaded Firefox last night as I've heard great things about it, particularly after my battle with Begin2Search. However, it's not loading pages- at least not with any workable speed. I'm able to get into my yahoo mail okay, but any other pages I've tried to reach with it- including this one- take so excruciatingly long to load that I end up using IE anyway. I have SBC DSL and I think it's something in my computer that tends for pages to load slowly anyway (sometimes have to hit refresh multiple times) but IE will at least load the pages after a few refreshes. Firefox doesn't seem to respond at all.

Is there any way to fix this or do I just concede and reset IE as my primary browser? :-/ Also if anyone has any ideas about the slow page loading in general I'd be very happy- it's quite annoying (although downloads work great, so I don't think it's a bandwidth issue..we do have a router if that makes any difference).

Thanks!

The router should makes thinks run faster, does it have the modem built in or as a seperate external device. I would check all the connection settings for firefox, it is posssible if this is not set correcct speeds can be affected.

Can you try a ping on your router. You would need its local IP address though. You should be able to get this from its web interface. When you have the IP go "START" and "Run" type "cmd" then "ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX". If you get a really high time then you know there is a problem with you connection to the router

What kind of router is it, how is it linked to the pc's

Brotherhood77,

It sound like you have content or keyword filtering enabled in Norton 360 that's blocking access to certain websites based on keywords. Go into Norton 360 and turn off content blocking and/or parental controls. See if this helps.

First and foremost, a BIG thank you to anyone who helps me, as I know this is a freee service and there are people out there charging good money for this exact same thing! So, yesterday while on the internet (IE) I suddenly noticed that the pages stopped loading and instead were acting as if my connection had given out. This was not the case as my connecton was fine, and I eventually found that Firefox began doing the same thing after a few hours. I realized it wasn't the Firewall either since it did the same when that was disabled. This is when I became a little suspicious and ran MBAM, which couldn't update because of some error that had to do with "user not allowing to connect to internet" or something like that. That was when I realized that it's a likely virus. I still ran MBAM however and even Avast, but neither found anything. Also, I am running Windows XP and this is a desktop computer (I'm posting from a laptop now).

My hoimepage is set to Google. When I open the browser, it looks like Google is loading, then in the top tab, it looks like it loads again. This happens on some other Web sites, also. I re-set Firefox, but the problem continues. I do not have any add-ons or extensions in Firefox. I also tried setting the homepage to Yahoo, but this never seems to stop loading - the loading page wheel just keeps spinning. I have Windows 7 - 64 bit for the OS and have MSE, MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyWare and Spyware Blaster installed which I run every day (except Blaster which doesn't have a scanning feature). They don't find any issues, except SuperAntiSpyware which finds anywhere from 30 to 90 "threats" when I run it. What's the problem? Any "easy" fix?

Hi

I am having a problem with Firefox. I have only just got a brand new pc with Vista 64 bit OS, download most if not all of the updates and installed Firefox. When I'm using Firefox everything seems fine and then all of a sudden it will stop. I could browse plenty of pages and then the next time I try and load one it does nothing, just a white screen. There are no error messages and if I close it and try and re-open it I then get an error message saying Firefox is already open, please close the current one first (or something along those lines). I press Ctrl, Alt + Del and go to processes and there is Firefox, but I click to end the process and nothing happens. Even to restart my pc is a lenghty process. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Many thanks

When I open either one of my browsers, IE8 or Firefox, my home page usually loads without delay. But, once I try to load a web page, I will get a perpetual blank screen or a partial screen for that web page or what seems to be the entire page but the info bar below shows items still loading. I almost never get the word "Done" at the bottom.

If I click on refresh over & over, I can sometimes get the page to finish loading, but not always. This happens when I select a link from a Google search, when I select a link in my Favorites or Bookmarks or when I enter the url directly into the address bar. I can't make sense of it at all.

It happens to all websites, including this one, so I'm pretty sure it's not the security of a website that is giving me trouble. It happens when I try to go to Microsoft, HP, Dell or many other sites which I would consider safe.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I've been wrestling with this problem a while now and none of the solutions I've found so far has worked.
I'm having problems with IE 11 & Firefox 27.0 displaying web pages properly. I get tons of "This page can't be displayed", "The website declined to show this page" and additionally in Firefox only - "The connection was reset". but I can refresh the page and it loads correctly. I'm up-to-date as far as Windows Update & Flash Player are concerned.

Also, IE plays videos on youtube with no problem but can't play them on vevo. Interestingly, I added vevo to IE 11's compatibility view and got a popup saying "Looks like you're using a version of Internet Explorer that we no longer support. Please upgrade to Internet Explorer 10 or later, or try using a different browser, and come back to VEVO.com to start watching new and classic videos".

Firefox plays videos on both youtube and vevo without problems.

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks,

Hi welcome to SevenForums,
Update your browser is common for a website that doesn't recognize comp-view when it's being used by Internet explorer,
Press the F12 key when you get the popup message and verify what is being used,
For ie9-10 Click Browser mode and check ie10 if not checked.
You might see this to get rid of what ever comp-view lists that exist on your machine,
This applies to All versions of ie,

I have the latest version of Firefox, but have had the same problem with previous versions. I frequently get "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" error messages. Often, if this occurs for one site it occurs for most (but not all) of the other sites I click on. It does not seem to be limited to secure sites. It is not fixed by rebooting the computer, although it usually works when I first turn the computer on for the day. It also happens in IE, though I never use IE.

My housemates seem to be experiencing no problems.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and am not as familiar with it as I was with XP, so I'm having trouble knowing where to look to possibly solve the problem. Any thoughts?

Hi, I'm getting a problem with Firefox where it won't load pages completely, sometimes if I go on Facebook and there's more images than usual in my news feed some of them will not load completely or will not load at all and at the bottom it says "Done". Half the time when I'm loading images alone (Right click: View Image) and the image is a medium to large sized photograph it will stop loading and I'll get the "The connection was reset" message, this is more recent and it used to only happen when I tried to load several images at once.

This is driving me nuts as I download desktop sized PNGs on a regular basis, also I should mention that I'm on Dial-Up and this problem seems to be time based as it doesn't happen when I'm freeloading off my friend's Broadband.

Within the last month a co-worker's laptop suddenly began to experience page loading problems w/ IE6. Seems that after a few minutes of activity online the browser would suddenly stop loading webpages. Didn't matter what websites you had been to, which browser you were using, or how you accessed the web. You can even be downloading a file and the download will stop. To me it seems like there is something timing out or some cache or other file is getting "full", causing pages to stop loading.

Here is the setup:

HP/Compaq nc6120
WinXP SP-2 (all updates installed)
IE6, IE7, FireFox
Verizon aircard, SBC dsl

System originally had IE6 and worked perfectly for 6 months. About a month ago when browsing for about 5 minutes or so (with no problems), the browser would suddenly stop loading webpages, but the IE would not freeze. Pages that were already cached could be reloaded, but if there was info on the page that needed to be refreshed, the unable to load page error would appear. I noticed the progress bar would go 1 mark, then stop, almost as if the connection was lost. Shutting down all IE6 windows and opening a new one made no difference. Breaking the ISP connection and signing back on did not solve the problem either. Only way to get IE to access webpages again was to completely reboot and sign back onto the provider. After it runs for 5 minutes or so, it starts all over. Doesn't matter if you are on DSL or the aircard or which browser you were using.

My browser of choice is Firefox but I have the same problems in Chrome also. First a little background. I'm running Windows 8.1 for the last month (thanks to TECHNET) and up until 1 week ago I had Roadrunner light with download speeds around 9 to 10 Mbps. Last week I upgraded to higher speed Roadrunner and am now getting download speeds of around 35 Mbps consistantly.

Now my problem: Several forum pages that I frequent USED to load instantly and when clicking on a post would load instantly. Now certain pages may take up to 45 seconds to 1 minute or sometimes not at all. This happens most of the time but not all the time. This happens whether I'm using Firefox, Chrome or IE. I have cleared cookies, history, search, cashe in an attempt to solve this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what my problems are? Thanks in advance.

I've been affected by pretty much the same issue. After doing a bit of research, I've found my current router is not working well with 8.1 due to the way dns is handled.

There may be other routers/modems that may be affected, but what I've done to fix the issue temporarily.

Go to Control Panel, select Network and Internet.

Select Network and Sharing, then select Change Adaptor Settings to the left of the window.

I use WiFi, so I Right clicked on WiFi, and selected properties.

Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 in the list.

Tick the Use The following DNS server addresses.

I used Google's public DNS addresses.

Preferred DNS server : 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server : 8.8.4.4

Hopefully this helps you out a bit.

According to my ISP, there is a fix to be rolled out for the modem I am currently using, so this is just a temporary fix. I'm pretty sure there are others that are affected as well.

Hi, I've been having a problem for over a month now. My internet browsers will not load certain pages, or if they do they will only load the background color or border. Since this problem has begun such sites as Filefront.com or IGN.com have not ben able to load at all. Other sites will load most of the time but occasionally the page will lock up and i can only access it after hitting refresh 200 times. When the browser will not load the page at all, closing the window or ending the process will cause windows to crash and reboot, without fail. I have been doing endless scans for rootkits and viruses/spyware, to no avail. I know that a while ago I had the Trojan.Zlob virus, but that seems to be taken care of with the more than 10 different types of scans i have been running. I know IE is buggy but this also happens to Firefox and I need to use IE to access my college account. I tried adjusting the MTU, but that didn't work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently running Firefox 2.0.0.14 and IE7 on a Windows XP Home PC. When I browse web pages (in either browser), there a pieces "missing" constantly and consistently. I did notice that many of them are javascript that won't work, such as lightbox and other dropdown menus. In short, web pages usually fail to load background images and any roll down menu fails to have any solid color. Usually HTML text just drops down in front of the page text and I can't read any of it because there is no defined box. Like I said, the problem happens all the time, always to same aspects of the page, and in both browsers. 'Enable Java' IS checked, so that doesn't seem to be my problem. A:IE/Firefox pages not loading correctly

Hi pogotheclown,

I read this posting after searching for someone who had a similar problem like I had. Your issue sounded very much like mine, so I kept coming back to this site to read a reply so that it could possibly help me identify a fix. Low and behold, after countless hours over three days, I may have something for you to look into as it turned out to correct my problem completely. I am embarrassed how easy it turned out to be. I have to mention that I am working on someone elses computer, so it wasn't that easy.

Go into your Control Panel, select Accessibility Options, select the Display Tab. On the top half you should see "High Contrast". Make sure that the "Use High Contrast" is Unchecked. The checking of this option is what was causing IE and Firefox 2.0 and 3.0 to not load correctly, mainly, background color, drop down menus, borders, outlines etc.... Hope this helps you out, it sure worked for me..... Metfan2u

I am currently running Windows Vista Home 32-bit. 3MB RAM, Core2Duo processor, etc. I am connected to cable internet through a router. There are two computers connected to the router. My wife's computer and mine as well as the Wii. She has not had any connection issues.

I will start my computer normally and be surfing the net using Firefox. After an unspecified (it varies every time) the web pages will stop loading. Sometimes this will be 5 minutes, sometimes a half hour, other times an hour. The icon will keep spinning, but they will stop loading. They never go to the "this page can not be displayed" page. I will then close Firefox. When I attempt to open the browser again, I get a message that Firefox is already running and that I need to end the process. Attempts to end the process in the task manager are unsuccessful. It won't close. Sometimes I click on IE and have the same issue, other times IE will work, but eventually stop loading pages just like Firefox. My network icon shows that I am connected to the network and the diagnose and repair feature finds no problems. I've run scans with AVG, AdAware and Spybot and they've turned up clean. I use an email client to connect to my work email and that connects to the internet without issue when Firefox and IE are not working.

The problem is always rectified with a restart of the computer.

Thanks,

I am currently running Windows Vista Home 32-bit. 3MB RAM, Core2Duo processor, etc. I am connected to cable internet through a router. There are two computers connected to the router. My wife's computer and mine as well as the Wii. She has not had any connection issues.I will start my computer normally and be surfing the net using Firefox. Thanks,MikeI have been suffering from exactly the same problem...

Hey guys,

I have been over in the internet explorer forum for a bit and tried a few things over there to over come my problem. But obviously nothing has worked.. what is happening is internet explorer displays nothing it jsut keeps trying to load.(Firefox works fine still) I have done all adware/spyware/temp file scans etc. as well as a System file checker scan and a winsock fix (thread here http://www.techsupportforum.com/newt...newthread&f=50) so anyway heres my hijack this log.

The only possible problem I see in that log is the presence of Messenger Plus! 3, which unless you choose to NOT install the "sponsor" program along with it, will give you a nice little LOP infection.....however, I see no evidence of that in your log, either, and your symptoms don't match.

Let's try registering Internet Explorer's DLL files. Go to Start->Run and type in command and click OK. Then type in each of the following, hitting the Enter key after each line:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll

See if that makes a difference.

Then, we can run a couple of scanners, to try to eliminate unseen malware as the issue.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.

Hello,
I have a little problem here with my browsers. Just recently, FireFox has stopped loading pages for me, it can load my homepage, but won't navigate to any other pages. The same for IE. I don't know what the deal is.

I have ran a virus check, came up clean. I also ran a spyware/adware check and found Virtumonde and got rid of that. I also did a registry scan, and fixed some registry errors. No deal. If you want, I will post a HJT Log here if needed. I have Windows Vista Home Basic btw

Thank You

Hi folks,

having problems with IE and firefox.

It seems that over the past couple of days Windows has had a lot of updates and Firefox has been upgraded also, and since the 17th of Dec '09 I haven't been able to connect to some websites (example being www.uk.msn.com), but others appear to be fine. It's the same problem with the same websites/webpages for both IE and Firefox. But, the weirdest thing though is that the aol browser (which I normally never use as I hate it) appears to be able to connect fine to these sites ( ???? )

My comp is a Dell pc using XP, i have Avast as my antivirus software, and I'm using Windows firewall

I have an account with Aol to connect via broadband to the web

IE is currently version 8.0.6001
Firefox is currently version 3.5.6

Things I have done,
I've checked for spywear & malwear with no unusual results
I've scanned for viruses again with no results
I've cleared cache, cookies and histories for all the browsers
I've done "system restore" to a time before the problems started
I've repaired my broadband connections with the web

I've just tried in IE
'Internet Options' -> 'Connections' -> 'LAN Settings' -> to uncheck the proxy server option but it was already unchecked

I have also done TRACERT in the command window to www.uk.msn.com and these are the results

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Hello

Ive been having problems with my internet browsers both IE and Firefox intermittently stalls. Ive tried everything. Ran virus scans on both ESET NOD32 and Microsoft Essentials. Ran Spybot, CHKDISK, Checked MS config and cant find anything out of the ordinary and nothing popped up indicating that ive been infected I even created a guest account to see if i can localize if the issue is user specific, and pretty much i encountered the same issue.

Im starting to wonder if its something corrupted on the OS, so far its just my web browser that i have issues with. I have 3 gig of memory so thats not the issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Someone suggested potential memory leaks but it the first time ive ever heared of such a thing. What baffles me most is that its only my web browsers that seem to be affected and nothing else and again nothing out of the ordinary out of my scans have turned up anything whatsoever.

Running out of hairs to pull. thanks in advance

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read. I don't know why but all of a sudden the pages (any page) I try to load takes extremely long and usually times out. I have to use the "try again" link and eventually it will be able to load but then still images take long, the page itself and links take forever as well.

It is not my internet as the other computer runs well and as usual. I have tried clearing ALL history including cookies and cache.

I can't think of anything that I could have done that would have made it slow.

I thank you in advance for your help and look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Ann

A:Pages loading extremely slow or not at all on Firefox

I'm sorry I forgot to add that I recently added FastestFox (Firefox add-on) but am not sure that it's working and don't have any other add-ons except for the "pin-it" button.

I have also tried updating Flash and Quicktime as Firefox told me the versions I had were outdated.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 with IE 8. I cannot get any web pages to load. It doesn't even try, immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." If you try to enter a URL into the address bar, it then resolves to "The address is not valid" with http:/// in the address bar. Firefox does the same.

I can connect to the internet both wired and wireless. Web pages will not load, but Norton, Java, iTunes, and Microsoft updates will connect, update and install. I can ping Yahoo.

Have tried loading pages with Norton and Windows Firewall disabled, still nothing. Have reset all IE options. Have reset winsock & tcp/ip stack. Have run Anti-Malware with with only a tracking cookie found. No other antimalware software installed other than Windows Defender.

No history of any viruses, nothing in quarantine.

Even tried updating the wireless NIC driver.

Please help. I have no idea what else to try!

A:IE/Firefox pages not loading but can ping Yahoo

Rid your system of NIS -
Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT); save to desktop. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the NRT icon and select Run as Administrator. When complete - re-boot.

NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Hello everyone.

About two days ago, I went to sleep letting my computer finish an update to Windows Media Player 11. The next morning I found that my browsers no longer will finish loading any form of web page.

Yesterday I completed a virus scan to have found a trojan, but I'm no longer sure how much damage it could have caused, and I'm not even sure if the the trojan is the culprit. Here's all that I know:

- I'm running Windows XP Home, SP3
- Instant Messengers, like AIM, function properly.
- Firefox opens normally, begins to load the Google front page, and stops halfway through the communication process (IE just locks and crashes).
- Upon reboot, many of the programs checked on my startup list inside msconfig will not start up after all, among those being AIM, my wireless utility program, my anti-virus, and others.
- I've taken a look at my services but without knowing what was already on and already off, that was a dead end.
- my ex, and current roomate, had the same kind of behavior once, and the next day, the problem had went away. I don't think this is that simple.
- The two most current events have been installing, and thusly uninstalling WMP 11, and the fact that I cancelled my home phone line, who also was my past ISP, but I should have been on a completely different ISP.

I'm trying every option i can without having to install XP again. Once again, the behavior didn't begin until the computer had an automatic restart after installing WMP 11. Un... Read more

I recently was infected by conflicker when I was repairing another computer.

I repaired the computer using various programs (Combofix, Malwarebytes, SDfix, Avast, Spyware doctor). My computer seems to be running fine but when I try to use firefox for more then 5 minutes I cannot load any pages.

If I try to click a link or go to a website it says "stopped" in the left corner and will not work unless I close it out then go to process manager and kill the process.

I have tried creating a new profile and reinstalling Firefox. I also disabled windows firewall and uninstalled spybot to no avail.

Internet explorer and all other programs seem to be working fine.

I have no detection of any relapse of conflicker.

Any help will be appreciated

I just got a new laptop, and have been having some troubles with Firefox. Every so often, while surfing, pages will suddenly stop loading. I'll still be connected to the internet (MSN works, I.E will load pages), but firefox just won't load anything at all. A lot of the time, I'll close the window, and when I try to open a new one I'll get a message saying firefox is still running. Using task manager, I can see that firefox is still running under processes, but it won't close when I click end process.
It has generally been sorting itself out after I reset the computer, but I'm sick of resetting once an hour.
Can anyone please help?

The other day, Farmville crashed my computer (not unusual). But when I got things going again, I noticed that the color of the word Google on the Google start page were in grays instead of colors like normal. Then when I went to Farmville, some of the colors were missing like in the work Farmville and the sign-in box was missing, but I could click by holding my cursor over the place where it should appear. But once in the game, I cannot click all the things I should be able to click, for example, can't post found items.

So I went to Explorer, and the same things were happening, Google was missing colors, words Farmville was missing colors.

So I installed Google Chrome, and the colors were there, so something apparently happened with Firefox and Explorer.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and that didn't make any difference.

Any ideas?

I am not very computer smart, so please try to keep answers simple - thanks.

I've been slowly recovering from a nasty virus on my netbook. I think I got the rootkit out of the way. I'm still seeing random pages loading on their own in Firefox. And, ever since it was first infected, Google Chrome stopped working. Chrome will load up just fine. But, entering any URL and hitting enter does nothing. The spinning 'now loading' icon on the tab doesn't even start.

Here's a HJT log for now. What other info could I provide for you guys? Thanks a lot!

Hi guys. I'm having some wierd problems with firefox. I don't recall/remember these ever happening when i first used it. But I notice that in forums, for example, if one image is repeated multiple times, it will actually go through the trouble of loading each one, one by one.

In internet explorer 6 and Opera, the very same pages load HELLA fast.

I have a Cable internet connection (by timewarner/roadrunner)

I'm PRETTY sure it was never like this before. Any ideas?
