I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Maybe try different version of the drivers. I had one recently that the updated drivers killed the system. Also, is it possible the card could be defective?

Hi, I replaced the graphics card and PSU on my HP Pavilion 500-199 with an XFX Radeon HD 6870 and an EVGA 500W PSU. Before i replaced the card, I uninstalled the previous graphics card drivers already. When i boot the computer, there would be no signal on the monitor, however i can see all of the fans spinning inside the pc. I tried switching back to the old graphics card and psu that came with the computer, but the monitor still shows no signal. I have tried resetting the CMOS by moving the jumpers and resetting the battery. The mouse and keyboard would also get no connection. Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks

Hey, I just ordered a Radeon HD7950 an since I can't use it until the power cable adapter arrives I wanted to test to see if it fit in my case. I took my 6770 out, dusted it off with a tissue and blew dust off of it and the pcie slot. after testing I put it back in.

However now my pc will not boot. It turns on, spins the gpu fan briefly but doesn't boot. Every ten seconds it spins the fan again but to no avail.

Everything else seems to work, hard drive and cpu fan spins up, mobo led lights up but nothing comes up on screen.

I don't want to test my 7950 since I only have 1 6 pin connector (it needs an 8 and a 6)

Is it the 6770 or my motherboard that is dead?

A:What graphics card should I for my Dell Vostro 200

Hi Jchoiboi17,Thanks for posting.Another user posted this information:If you are just playing CS:GO you can pretty much get any card that fits your budget, a Radeon 260x or a 750ti will work just fine with games on good settings. You could get a 960 if you are playing a range of games too however if its just CS:GO then either the 260x or 750ti is a great choice.Another user posted:  EVGA GeForce 8400 GS Hope this helps

A:Is the ATI Radeon 9550 / X1050 graphics card compatible with a Dell Vostro 200?

If the card will fit in the box it'll probably work for you. When I looked up Dell Vostro 200 they were built into two kinds of cases. There was one type built in a slim case and the other type built in a mini case. The mini case is much wider than the slim case. It looks like both types of cases sport motherboards with X16 PCI-E slots for adding an aftermarket video card. Trouble will arise if your 9550/X1050 video card has an AGP connector instead of a PCI-E connector, or you have a full size video card and a slim case.

Hi, Unless your PC is running a version 8 BIOS then many if not all of the NVIDIA GTX 7xx graphics cards will not work. Do a search on "Carmel2" going back four years and see if can find a success with the NVIDIA GTX 750.  You should be able to find at least one success.

A:New Graphics Card wont boot up!!! HELP :)

Hi Lindgren, you need to list some system specs for further help.

However this statement is curious

You say you bought a Radeon 3850, yet you had someone turn off the "new" card in the BIOS??? What "new graphics card are you talking about"??? This is a very confusing statement.

This is also why we need your system specs, especially the motherbord model.

Also be aware that if you're not familiar with BIOS settings, that's going to present a challenge here as not all BIOS's are the same, and thus it would be hard for any one here to walk you through it. Messing around in the BIOS without understanding their settings can render your computer useless.

Ty all in advance once again for your help.

Here's whats going on:

Just purchased a new SAPPHIRE 100228L Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card.

I uninstalled old Drivers, Powered off the computer, pulled the power cord. Installed the new graphics card, booted the computer. Nothing. After several hours of a friends help who has a degree in CIS still nothing. He left, then randomly after one last attempt to boot it, I loaded one moniter through a vga conection. (we had tried this several times).

So now, about one in every 5 boots will load the bios and move on to allow me to log into windows.

I attempted on the first boot to install the Driver for this particular card (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp) from ATI.

all apeared to be going well until after it asked me to reboot at the end of the instilation. I did, but no boot again.
I rebooted, and rebooted, and after a few attempts was able to log in. Apon logging in windows detected a error and closed the Catalyst softwear and to this point I am unable to login.
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 280 Graphics Card was my old graphics card, it still works when I swap it back.

We already try a lot of things and still don't know the cause Monitor is just pitch black and i hear no sounds because i don't have Internal speaker. So yeah we bought this Afox Geforce G210 it doesn't have power port you just need to insert it in the Pci-e slot so I put it in the Pci-e Slot x16 which is the single slot this motherboard has. We already bought 1080 Monitor and it still didn't work, disabled the Display adapter "Intel" and uninstalled it's past drivers, Also Boot in Safe Boot Minimal, Changed the Bios setting PEG/PCI and the Dram from "auto" to "800", Removed the Ram and Cmos battery, and it can't be Power Supply because we have a "700W" power supply and We already brought back the Graphics card and it works in their Pc . Hello Provost, I have used your method and now the card won't beep anymore, HOWEVER, the PC now just doesn't get the card at all... A bit of background... The GPU included in the HP Envy (hp9-1001de) got burnt a few weeks ago. Since then I've been using the integrated Intel HD Graphics. However, when watching videos, suddenly the fan started going wild, so I decided to buy a new cheap GPU, the GeForce 210. First thing I did after inserting the card was to unplug the DVI cable I am using now (as VGA is unsupported on the integrated Intel HD Graphics ports) from the Intel HD port, and plug it into the port of the new card. When booting up, I see something on the screen, I see the blue page when the system starts, but then nothing happens. Another time I pressed ENTER and I got to the system menu, but it then freezed again there. It seemed that after 10 seconds, the system freezed wherever it was. So I plugged the cable back to the Intel port, and... I got the BEEPs the user is referring to here. And I came out to this thread. I DISABLED the Slot Security options in the BIOS liek you suggested, and... ...with the cable plugged into the Intel HD port, the system was now starting! Yess!!! So I shut down the system, plugged the cable to the new card, but with my great surprise, the system defaulted to the Intel HD card and not to the new card for the video output!!!I know it doesn't make sense, but it seems like with Security Enabled the... A:HELP - New graphics card...windows wont boot

Hey mate,

Remove the graphics card and try to boot into Windows. If Windows will not boot attempt a repair with the graphics card removed. Once you have Windows reliably booting up with the onboard graphics then you can have another go at the GFX.

Look in your BIOS before installing the card, do this by pressing F2 or DEL (depending on your motherboard brand, model, etc) - then set your primary graphics to PCIe (or similar), which represents and external card.

Turn the PC off, install the card, with your monitor connected to the card start up and see if Windows loads. If it doesn't and you have the same issue you either have a faulty graphics card or a faulty motherboard.

Good luck

I'm having the same issue as this post from 2013!  yikes. Pavilion HPE H8-1121 - New graphics card + PSU, wont boot past HP screen.  I've installed a newer power supply (Seasonic 620W), which has been working well.  I also installed a GTX 660Ti last year and it's been working great as well.  I recently purchased a ZOTAC GTX 970 and have attempted to install that, but it won't go past the blue HP screen and I get the same beep code (1 long, 3 short) which, it seems, suggests the video isn't initializing. My BIOS date is 2011.Where would I find an update for this?I'm also using Windows 10, which I just found on the HP site isn't tested on my model and would likely not support it's use well.  Should I roll back to 7 or 8?  and then update BIOS?  Is there an update for my BIOS and where do I find it.Anyway, I'm hoping that's a solution.  This still isn't a bad machine for being 5 years old. Thanks for any help!

Hello all,

I really hope someone can help me with this problem, since I have been spending already quite some time on this error. So here is the deal:

A friend of mine has quite a mediocre computer and he decided that he wants to play Company of Heroes (which is a game from 2008 I think). As expected, his old videocard wasnt good enough, so I helped him find a good graphics card in order to play this game ad perhaps also others. Its an older system so it has only a AGP slot.

So he bought a Sapphire HD3650 AGP. And because his old PSU didnt supply the power this card needs, I looked for an better PSU which he bought as well. But now comes the problem. The old drivers were deleted by using some driver sweeper program. After that, new ATI drivers were installed, but after this the system did not recognize the new videocard. If I went to device manager, the VGA onboard would be listed a screenadapter.

Apparantly, this is something that happens to more people, since ATI has a hotfix for this problem available, which I downloaded and installed. After the installation was complete, a reboot was required which I of course did. When rebooting, I got the blue screen for a short moment, just before one expects the windows log on screen to appear, after which it immidiatly reboots.

This keeps on happening. I am able to go in safemode. If I go to device manager and turn the graphicscard off (which is indeed recognized now), I can reboot normally.

Ok guys, now the question is of cou... Read more

HD3450 256mb graphics card.

With this combination vista won't boot, the mobo beeps once but then goes on a loop with no start.
If i use the onboard graphics instead of HD3450 it works fine, and if i use all as above but with a 1gb ddr2-667 and a 256mb ddr2-400 instead, it also works fine.
I have also tried a 128mb ati x700pro graphics card but to no avail.
I can't fathom this out at all and presume there is a simple explaination or solution for this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I use a Dell OptiPlex 755 Small Form Factor computer in my bedroom, and it works great for most things. Though I want to give it a nudge in graphics. But I also don't want to buy a graphics card that won't fit inside the computer. I know I'll need a low profile graphics card. So my questions is, what is the maximum dimensions for a PCIe graphics card in a Dell OptiPlex 755 Small Form Factor.

A:Maximum Dimensions for Installing a PCIe Graphics Card in a Dell OptiPlex 755 Small Form Factor

I don't know what the maximum dimensions are, but they are tight and you are limited by the power supply. Bearing that in mind, the Sapphire 6450 is a good choice.

I upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last year and had no problems running two monitors (HDMI and VGA) from the onboard GPU (ATI Radeon 3000) until Windows 10 updated in about November. Then the monitor shifted to Generic PnPmonitor and I couldn't adjust the resolution and get the display to span the two monitors. The ATI website says that the Radeon 3000 driver is not compatible with Windows 10, so I bought an MSI GeForce GT 710 graphics card. When I plugged in the card and turned on the computer, it came up with both monitors working correctly and spanning both. When I ran the install program on the included disk and retarted the computer it would not boot into Windows. The monitor would just get stuck on the black Lenovo screen. I can boot into the Bios with the F1 key and the monitor works. When I remove the card and plug the monitors back into the mother board, it works, but still at the wrong resolution and no option to span the monitors. Am I doing something wrong that the computer won't boot into Windows when the card is installed? Is there a way to solve this with the original GPU on the motherboard?

I have a Vostro 460 and I wanted to upgrade the graphics card. I just bought a Gygabye with nVidia GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 card assuming it was going to work fine on this PC. Wrong assumption. It simply does not boot. It displays the initial POST but it doesn't go past it.
This video card is PCI-e 2.0. I tried to check prior to the purchase the PCI-e version of the Vostro's motherboard and with big effort I found in one the posts of this forum that it's 2.0 (it doesn't say anywhere, motherboard or manuals). Also, the minimum hardware requirements are met: minimum 300W power supply: the stock PSU is 350W. Cool!  But no so cool, it's not working.
The BIOS's firmware is up-to-date. I can't figure out what's the problem as the card is compatible with the motherboard. It should have worked first hand. And I don't think the power is a problem.
Any ideas?Thank you

Hi all,
I recently bought a Vostro 3668 i7 7700 that came with a R9 360 card. From a little search on the web I saw that the TDP for this card is 85W, so I thought that it wouldn't hurt If I buy a 1050 Ti with 75W TDP  (/w stock speeds no extra power cables) to replace it.
Is there anything that I should be aware off? Any BIOS settings? Does it matter that I replace a single slot card with a dual slot card?
I am currently looking at these 2:
ASUS Phoenix GTX 1050 Ti
Thank you for your help

A:Vostro 3668 new graphics card

Unless your applications require nVidia support, this is going to be a lateral move, not an upgrade.  Those two GPUs are pretty evenly matched in terms of performance.
Yes, it may matter in terms of size - many smaller cases like the one you have won't take a dual-slot card.

Ok ive scoured forums and websites but havent found my exact answer to this issue. I got a vostro 1015 free with a bit of a cracked screen(nothing to bad i cant work around till i order new one) but i installed win 7 ultamite and updated fully. Started setting it up for use with other 3rd party apps(mainly trying to setup android x86 through virtual box manager) when at first started blinking on charger led next day and wouldnt power up. Well finally got it to power but then sense it has been auto cutting stright off. And now it wants to boot to no screen sometimes others it boots up but post takes forever most times. Then other times it takes about 2 min before it even reacts to hitting the power button on.But almost every time it ether goes blank screen then powers off a couple min later or just shuts off entirely. Lcd test passed, cant complete diagnostics couse it cuts off right at end of mem testing so far. Ive systematicly taken ram,hdd,wifi,cd/dvd drive out and tried each time to boot. No success. Rarly can get a few sec in. WIndows before kill. Also i am aware i do have faulty battery(will replace) but i have also done these tasks of troubleshooting with and without battery and with a seprete charger. Any advice or idea i havent tried is much welcome....atm i have it dissassembled and checking all connectors. Also the power button broke off ribbin but got a spare to replace it.

A:Dell vostro 1015 power\graphics issue?

Sounds like it has some serious issues, you probably have a motherboard issue and it is taking a long time to pass post or isn't passing because there is something wrong and it can't pass so it won't move on.  Sounds like you are going to have to replace it.  All the stuff that you are mentioning that has happened sounds like a failing component on the motherboard that finally just totally failed and now Intermittently works but doesn't stay working very long.  Everything that is removable you have tried to boot with it not connected and still having the issue, then there is something on the board itself.

Hi there,
My Vostro 14 5468 has a empty bay for a 2.5" HDD drive, I've tried multiple SSD's and the OS just won't detect that anything is connected? If I plug in a standard HDD it shows up without any issues.
Am I missing something? Is this slot really just limited to traditional HDD's?

A:Dell Vostro 5468 wont detect SSD in spare HDD bay

Not necessarily -- but SSDs tend to be 7 mm or slimmer, while the bay may be designed for a 9.5 mm hard drive.  You may need to use a shim to install the SSD to ensure it makes contact with the connector on the mainboard.

I have recently acquired a Dell Vostro 460 i5-2400 with the onboard Intel HD-2000 graphics.
I am wanting to upgrade the graphics card to support HD video streaming and some gaming.
Searching through this Forum, I have found information about supported cards (using the existing 300W PSU), but many of these are too old to but new. I have also read about the nVidia GTX 750Ti and Radeon R7250 working OK with the vanilla Vostro 460.
I have a budget of about £50 and am considering the following cards which appear to be compatible with a 300W PSU:
nVidia GeForce GT 730
nVidia GeForce GT 720
Has anybody had an success/issues using these cards with a Vostro 460? I am open to other recommendations or suggestions that fall within my budget.

A:Vostro 460 i5-2400 Graphics card upgrade

Just seen a post made by a member yesterday on the same topic! This member bought a GT 730 and it appears it is not compatible with the Vostro 460. A reply stated that the following cards are tested and compatible:
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420
ATI® Radeon® HD 5450
ATI® Radeon® HD 5670
pci-e cards are tested by Dell and are compatible. GT730 is not tested.

If possible, please can somebody add a list of more modern cards that are tested as working with this desktop?
I might just have to bump my budget to £100 and get a GTX 750 ti (assuming this will actually work!?)

Any attempts to install Intel HD there wasn't successful: not from Dell site, nor Intel - "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software" in spite of Windows 8.1 is in the list of compatible OS on the driver's description, e.g.:
The only graphic driver was installed is Microsoft Basic Adapter, but I can't connect extra monitor by HDMI with this driver.

I am not having much luck trying to restore a Dell Vostro 420 desktop to factory fresh conditions for somebody at work. It` may have picked up a virus or two and they did not care about saving any of the old my documents files.

I used DBAN to zero out the whole drive and then used the factory supplied Windows XP Home re-installation CD. The disc was labeled as not including any drivers or apps. I used another computer to visit the Dell support web site, entered the service tag, and downloaded the Intel Chipset Driver (9.00.1011, A00) and Realtek RTL81XX PCI-E Network Connection software (5.764, A01) to a USB thumb drive.

I installed the chipset driver and then the network hardware drivers from the USB drive. I was then able to spend several hours while Windows downloaded and installed dozens of updates.

I then used the Dell computer to visit the Dell support site and downloaded the other needed drivers. Two different Audio drivers were listed, Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Audio (RC2.1, A01-00), and Realtek High Definition Audio ( The Windows hardware device manager was reporting a missing driver for a "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". I decided to download the Realtek driver.

I ran the Realtek Audio installer and did not have any problems up until the very end. Just before the set-up screen changed to show the installation was complete, I got a pop-up warning that a network cable was disconnected. I double checked the physical connectio... Read more

A:Solved: a problem while installing windows 7 on dell vostro !

Check if your computer could detect your hard drive in BIOS.
If so, try to boot up from a WindowsXP CD and run command prompt, then format your HDD.
Make sure you have a copy from all your data somewhere else, so that format will erase all your data.

Dear all,
have the laptop with installed Windows 8.1 po (cause it is corporate standard, other OS isn't supported inside my company, sorry).

Please don't recommend me to install Win10 - I can't do it now. I need any other solutions! Thanks in advance!

There is an issue with a bunch of dell laptops (Vostro 3550, Inspiron n5110 included) where the laptop display is not detected. All of the new drivers and drivers on this site do not fix the problem. There are a couple of workarounds that you do in the meantime though.

1) Hook up an external monitor. Then you can at least use the laptop (only with the external monitor though).
2) Disable the Display adapter under computer properties. Screen shuts off after boot animation - Microsoft Answers (this will only allow a low resolution and no graphic acceleration.)

I hope they fix this soon as it is tough to develop for an OS that I can't even use.

Hidy ho everyone,

I'm currently using my old Dell Vostro 260, with a single 8 gig stick of Ram, its stock 500 gig hard drive, and another 3TB mechanical drive.

My last machine's motherboard died on me, and I canabalized it for parts. I even managed to get my 500 Watt PSU to fit in this things case.

Now I'm still using my old GTX 560 graphics card. And would like to upgrade it to something with a bit more power while I save up for the parts to build a new rig.

Trouble is, I'm not sure about the dimensions of the cards I can fit in this case. My current card barely fits as it is. And most of the other cards I've looked at are 5-6 inches longer then this one is. The biggest problem is, the hard drive enclosure is in just the right spot to make fitting a longer card impossible.

Does anyone know where I could get a card thats more powerful then my current card is, and can fit in this case?

I have a Vostro 460 MT from Dell.
The Specs:
320GB HD
Stock PSU - 350W

I had a NVIDIA GT 210 card in previously which I sold and bought an R7 240 to upgrade with. When plugging in the R7 240 and booting up. I get NO VIDEO SIGNAL. NO BIOS SPLASH SCREEN etc.
NOW if I take the card out and use the onboard VGA it works fine. The NVIDIA GT 210 worked fine too.

Why does this card not work? Is there a solution to my problem?
