Q: Ideapad z500 touch How to open up?

Hi. Im wanting to get into my laptop (it is pretty broken and I just want to see wires are connected etc)... but I cant work out how to open it up!Ive unscrewed all the screws, gently tried to force gaps in parts, used a screw driver to try and prize up the keys in the keyboard etc, I just cant work it out!Can someone please advise me what to do? The laptop is out of warrenty, paid to have it repaired and they just gave me a 500 bill to which I laughed. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

I have a one week old Z500 Touch. It is my aim to make a backup copy of all programs included in the purchase in case of unforeseen disaster later on. It seem easy to do so I thought while deciding on the purchase. To prepare I started reading Lenovo's forum to decide on how to go about it. After reading, I learned that it is quite different and difficult than what I thought it to be. The forum discussions about this topic is split into two thread, the old thread (Disk Partitioning and OneKey Recovery Feature) and the new thread (new disk partitioning and one key recover feature), due to the large number of responses from the community members. Reading through the long thread I learned that:1. The OKR function is the most difficult to replicate.2. There is a hidden partition needed for the OKR function.3. Resizing the partitions is not advisable. Erasing and rebuilding the partition will not work.4. Four partitions have been reported by some using Windows Disk Management.5. The OKR only recovers the system, recover back to factory or recover back to a period where backuped is made using the OKR. This will only work provided the hidden partition is left alone or intact.6. Cloning has been claimed to sometimes work.7. Disk copying also has been claimed sometime to work. Partition or Sector-by-sector copying? What I have done:1. I made a windows system image successfully to an external hdd. Restoration have not been verified.2. I also made a system backup usi... I've had my Z500 Touch for a few years now but it recently started having problems with the wifi adapter. When I conenct to the wifi it works fine for a minute or two but then the wifi adapter seems to crash completely.after some time it starts up again but I won't get more than maximum five minutes on the wifi before it crashes again. When I've attempted to see if I could fix the wifi adapter while it's down whole my computer crash. Sometimes it will also crash by itself after a long while of the constant adapter crashing. Now here is where it gets a little odd. When I have my laptop plugged into the charger I have no problems at all. Plugging in a cable works aswell.OS is Windows 10. So far my guess is the adapter just isn't working and I would need to get a whole new adapter but if anyone got a fix that would be great.

I'm getting to my wits end with my laptop. I have a Z500 Touch, windows 8, and I love it apart from the fact the mouse keeps randomly disappearing. I have no idea what triggers it. It's whilst I'm using my laptop too, it doesn't disappear after it goes to sleep or is locked etc.

Tried several different things, ctrl alt delete, F6 etc, none working at the moment. Tried to see if any of my devices needed fixing, and that was a no go too. I don't have a usb mouse to plug in at the moment, and I'd prefer to figure out how to stop or at least fix this without having to get one if at all possible

I don't know if this is a setting or a button I keep accidentally pushing, but if someone could please tell me how to get my mouse cursor back I'd be eternally grateful as this is driving me insane - the only reason I could even get on here was because this is touchscreen, but I miss my mouse pointer!!

A:Z500 Touch - Mouse Pointer Disappearing

hi emmz992,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, did you encounter this issue the first time you setup the PC or you just encountered this lately?

If it's just lately, can you try one of the following:
1. Disable "hide pointer while typing" under Control Panel (large icon view) > Mouse > Pointer Options Tab and enable "Show location of pointer when i press CTRL key"
  - Link to picture

2. Uninstall the Touchpad Driver (ELAN or Synaptics) under Control Panel > Programs and reboot. Upon logging back in, Windows will use a generic touchpad driver. Try to observe the mouse pointer behavior and observe (you can always re-install the touchpad driver by navigating to D:\Drivers\Touchpad or by downloading the driver from the lenovo website).

3. Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and observe the mouse pointer behavior. If all goes well, perform a clean boot and observe. If same problem, perform a System Restore in safe mode to undo any possible updates that was installed on the system (ensure that you make a backup copy of your files).

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

Hi.I bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it.When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network.I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot.I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook.I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career. I even downloaded the file efi\boot\BOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks?Does someone have a clue how can I boot from USB?Thanks in advance!  Bupitz

A:USB boot for Ideapad Z500

Hi,

I don't think I can be of much help, but a couple of things to try:  if your USB flash drive is formatted NTFS, it will only boot in legacy mode if it is bootable at all.  One thing you might try is to set the partition active if it isn't already.

If you want to boot in UEFI mode, format the flash drive with a single FAT32 partition.  Copy the contents of your install DVD to the flash drive.  If you're using an ISO copy the contents of the iso using a tool like 7zip.  UEFI bootabiliyt doesn't require using a special tool to prep the drive.  Just format it and copy the install medium to it.

Win7 requires CSM support in bios to boot successfully in UEFI mode.  That may always be enabled in UEFI mode or it may be a separate option in BIOS.

I just received a Z500 Touch with Windows 8 yesterday, and I decided that today I'd like to play some first-person games. I found that my mouse would not move while I was walking on the game (i.e. using WASD/Arrow Keys/Space) and so I could not move in the desired direction or look at a certain thing without releasing all keys and using the Touch pad.  Obviously, this isn't great when in active parts of the game - you can't stay still while aiming without cover! I looked online to see if there were any fixes, I found a few, but they were for Dell laptops or not for Elan. I tried going into regedit from cmd and trying to change the "DisableWhenType_Enable" value to "0", and the same with "DisableWhenType_AllAreas", but to no avail. Is there a fix for this, or is it just me being blindly stupid and missing a massive answer? Thanks,Darthnoodles

I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. Can someone please help with how to up the brightness?

Hi sherif1984 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It maybe the Windows automatic update that changed previous driver , it would help if you recall the date it was working ok with the driver for a system restore to jump back .

Check current version of the video driver via device manager (right click on device for property) . It may also offer rollback driver but system restore can provide better rollback as it applies with all other drivers that may have changed along with the date.

Older drivers version are available from the support site on a different OS version .
Z500 is not listed on Win10 supported models that is why Win10 driver versions are not available.

Particular configurations of a computer model may include hardware components not compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, its upgrade to Windows 10 is not recommended.
The following listed computer models include hardware components not fully compatible with Windows 10. Therefore, upgrading these models to Windows 10 is not recommended

Hello, I have  a lenovo Z500 touch that I have seldom used in the 3 years since I bought it mostly playing music when on holiday. I have just started trying to use it with Cubase music production software with an external monitor via HDMI. Several times a day the system freezes and can only be recovered by hard reset. There is no sign in the system event log of a problem until after a restart when the kernel reports that the system wasn't cleanly shut down. The system is much more stable using only the integrated display. I discovered that there is a downloadable Lenovo Diagnostics CD which is built on a Linux base. The Z500 freezes every time in the Video Card stress test both with and without an HDMI connected display. It has now also frozen on one of the extended memory tests. It is exactly the same type of freeze as occurs with Windows. So, this is not a Windows problem as it occurs in the diagnostics Linux system. In Windows it only ever fails when a second display is connected so looks like it is related to the Intel HD 4000 graphics. Running HWMonitor there is no sign of high CPU temperatures. At the point of freezing, which I have just directly watched, the screen flickers. For a short while after the freeze the keyboard back light can be switched on and off and then about 30 seconds after it stops responding. caps lock and num lock don't respond immediately after the freeze. Start with memory diagnostics. But could also be the motherboard. Eliminate memory as the cause. If you have two modules you can also test one at a time if you have crashes with one only then you know.

Black screen after replacing the case. I apologize in advance for my bad English. After replacing the case (inside nothing changed), the laptop shows a black screen. When connecting an external monitor, there is also no image. I checked all the contacts - everything is connected correctly. In this case, the laptop does not boot into windows (there is no reaction to the capslock, there is no lenovo logo), although the cooler starts, all the indicators are lit. When connecting or disconnecting the power adapter, the laptop issues beep, I can not understand what the problem may be. I will be grateful for any help.

Hello all, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 taking long time to boot (almost 30 min) The computer is stuck with black screen during 30 min, before the lenovo logo appears and then it boots fine. Before logo, just a black screen and power looks good. The problem, the fans don't work and the computer gets very warm. Sometimes, because the high-temperatures, it automatically switches down, because temperatures, before seeing the lenovo logo. With lenovo diagnosis software I have checked all the hardware, and the tools says all hardware is ok. My os is Windows 10. Could you please, somebody help me to solve this problem? I'm afraid the heat of the start could harm my computer. Why this boot is taking so long before logo? Thank you in advance, ip

I recently tried to turn on my z500 after dropping it on the charging port whilst it was charging. However, after trying to turn it on it wouldnt start. I have tried the hard reset of pressing the button every 1 second 10 times and then holding the power button for 30 seconds.I have also replaced the charging cable inside the laptop and also used a spare charger.  Disconnecting the battery does not resolve the issue eitherWhen plugging in the charger, the battery light does not light up as well.Is there any solution to this? Thanks!

HelloI recently upgraded my windows from version 8.1 to 10And I think it's not bad, but a bit later than 8.1 booting, it's getting much faster in Windows before. But now it's a little slowIt's not a problem in running programs, but I feel this laptop is not built for Windows 10. Will there be a problem?I feel a little pressure on the laptop hardware. Is it better to go back to the previous version? It's also important to add that all drivers are safe and fully installed without problems (even the brightness problem does not exist for me)

It's hard to tell, without knowing your laptop's specs. Could you share you CPU model, how much RAM do you have and what SSD/HDD model you use?
