I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This just started happening yesterday (08/27/08). The only thing that I have added to my PC is the Microsoft Access Snapshot viewer and I was able to print using it immediately after installing it.

All the printers on my PC are networked printers using Standard TCP/IP ports with private IP addresses for our network.

When I try to print from any Microsoft Office document (Word or Excel) I get the following message:

If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver.

Trying to print from Adobe Reader I get: "Unable to start print job. Is printer available?"

From Notepad: "A StartDocPrinter call was not issued."

I get various "printer error" or no messages when trying to print from other programs.

I have closed all programs and even rebooted my PC. Task manager does not show an inordinate amouint of memory being used.

Hello!

Please be informed that I have 1 Desktop running Windows xp and one laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate at home.

Files and printer sharing is enabled in both the system and I am able to share files and folders.

Desktop is connected with a Lexmark X 4270 printer with USB cable and the printer is working fine.

My Windows 7 laptop can 'see' the printer but when I try to print nothing happens.

I have gone through various tutorials and tried uninstall and reinstall of the printer.

I also tried to install the printer as Local printer ( eg. //desktop/Lexmark).
I have installed the latest available driver and the printer works fine if it is connected physically to any system.

but No matter how I try I am unable to share the printer.

This extra info may help you:

The printer is visible from windows 7.
I can even change the settings from Windows 7.
Print spoller is active and starts automatically in both system.
Files and folders sharing is working fine.
As I have installed both Windows xp and Windows 7 in my laptop, the shared printer works fine if I boot into Windows xp from it.

Now what can I do to make the shared printer also work with my Windows 7?
Help please

The ?sfc /scannow? command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
a) Press ?Windows Logo? + ?X? keys on the keyboard and select ?Command Prompt (Admin)? from that menu.
b) On the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press ?Enter?
sfc /scannow
c) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the scan.

My friend is recently discovered that she is no longer able to print pictures from Windows Image Gallery. When she selects the option to print, the printer says it is printing, but there is nothing in the print queue and nothing actually prints. We must turn the printer off and on again to reset it. She can print from other programs and I was able to print a test page. I created a test user account and was able to print photos just fine from there. Haven't had a chance to try Microsoft FixIt yet, but I will be giving that a try. I also have not yet tried reinstalling the printer yet. This issue seems to be specific to her primary user account. The printer is an HP Photosmart. The OS is Vista. Any suggestions?

A:Unable to print photos from Windows Image Gallery

Did she by any chance disconnect the printer and plug it into a different USB port? This is quite often the cause of this problem. The easiest thing to do would be to delete the printer and then add it again.

Now he can?t print from Internet Explorer. It prints a header and footer but nothing on the page. If I pick ?print preview? there is nothing showing on the page. The printer seems to be working fine from everything except IE.

I downloaded and installed the latest printer driver from HP but that didn?t help.

I have the same model printer and it works fine in Windows 7 for me.

I uninstalled and re-installed the printer. HP Print and Scan Doctor software tests scanning fine but hangs when trying to connect to the printer.

I needed to copy everything over to new drive, including all programs, etc. I am starting to see some minor things that aren't quite right. One such problem, is I can't print or print preview in Word 97. Hitting the print or print preview icon does nothing. Going into file, then down to print/print preview does not bring the print window or the print preview window up. nothing happens. any suggestions? by the way, the printer does work-I am able to print thru other apps. Also, I do not have the orig. install cd for this app. thanks.

Many programs will not work if their files are just copied from one system to another. If that's what you did rather than reinstalling from the installation disks, you're likely going to have several problems.

I am trouble shooting a HP machine running windows 8 and a Canon MG 5040 inkjet printer. After upgrading to windows 10, the printer is not able to print any documents (PDF, word) that are more than 2 pages. Sometimes the printer will leave the bottom half of the 2nd page empty. Also the printing speed is extremely slow - takes 2-3 min to finish the first page. However when I do 'print test page' it took less than 30 seconds. I have tried the following but none has helped. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be/how to fix it?
- updated to the latest printer firmware
- reinstalled windows printer drivers, downloaded from canon website
- power cycled printer and computer

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade from Windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit but when booting from the upgrade disk it has problems finding my HDD's and says that windows cannot be installed on them once found.

When choosing a clean install from loading the disk from within Vista it starts to install and then when it restarts it brings up a blue screen saying that windows cannot be installed and is I have installed any new HDD's or controllers then on uninstall them.

When trying to upgrade at first it was complaining about the ATI ACHI Compatable RAID controller not being compatable but now it starts to do the install and then on restart it does the same as the clean install.

Hi guys

I am having real problems loading security updates for Windows 7. Have been to many sites and Microsft are now telling me to upgrade windows 7 but i am having issues with ATI Catalyst Install Manager and ATI Catalyst Control Centre. The upgrade gets half way through and then rolls back.

It asks me to uninstall these programs but unfortunately they do not appear in my programs and features in the control panel.

It would appear it is ghosting somewhere (my term I dont know what the official term would be lol) and I dont know how to find or remove it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

A:Unable to. Upgrade windows 7 because of ati issues

Two ideas:

1) Re-install the Catalyst package, and then uninstall it normally.

2) Driver Sweeper: Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Of course, a clean re-install of Windows would fix your problem.

I just purchased Windows 7 64bit upgrade.

I installed it on my Windows XP computer. According to the official microsoft guidance, this upgrade can only be done as a "clean" or "custom" install - in place installs don't work when upgrading a 32bit system to 64bit.

Anyway, I installed Windows 7 no problem, but when trying to activate I am told 0xC004F061 error, This product key is licensed only for upgrading, not for clean installations.

What do I do? This is a valid CD for installing Windows 7 to an XP computer, and I have a valid XP COA - how do I activate the software I paid for?

Hi all,

I have tried a number of times now to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It always fails and puts out an error WindowsUpdate_C0000005.

I did a search on this error which recommended using the Windows Updater Repair which I have done. However at the end of this it states it is unable to fix Windows Updater Error 0x80070057.
Another search done led me to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/53a1f2ab-037b-438e-a690-00a0e745730d/windows-7-update-error-0x80070057?forum=w7itprogeneral which suggests using RegEdit to fix the problem however the keys that

Unable to access the computer in question to send information or I do not know how under these conditions.

An uninstalling to reinstall Norton 360 never completed. After 12 hours I rebooted only to find that I as no longer able to boot into Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update. I am trying to lose as little as possible. All of the Library is backed up onto a USB external MyBook drive.

Booting from USB the Repair function said it could not repair it. The restore points all three of them are unsuccessful.

I have rescue USB thumb drives, and thumb drive and CDs using the Media Creation Windows 10 strategy. I never see the option of refreshing Windows 10. I only see Reset that keeps files (not programs I installed) and not keeping my files.

When I try to use the thumb drive or CD created with the Media Creation Tool it starts to get ready to install. Then I get the message that I booted from the other than the hard drive and it requires that I remove the external boot source and reboot to do the windows 10 update install from another computer but my problem is that I can only boot from one of those sources. Any way I can override that request and continue or would that be helpful? Otherwise I keep getting the light blue screen saying that it must reboot due to ?IRQL not less or equal?.

Is using the Safe Mode helpful in any way?

Any help or guidance is appreciated. Thanks.

Installed a recommended BIOS upgrade on my HP Envy. Everything went smooth until after I rebooted the laptop. I was unable to login to Windows 10. My username would show up correctly, but my password would not take. Panicked, I searched for a solution from another laptop and was almost ready to reset the laptop to factory condition. However, I knew that I would certainly lose some software that I installed prior to the BIOS upgrade. I decided against doing this because it would certainly take hours and hours to recover all that and most installed software is licensed.I found a forum entry that recommended trying to reset the Windows password on https://account.live.com/password/reset. I did this from another laptop. It is simple. One is prompted to enter the phone number or e-mail address used to originally register the password. Next, a code is sent to the phone or, in my case, to my e-mail address. Upon entering the code I entered a new password. Using the new password I was able to login to Windows again and all was well again. I am listing my experience in the event someone else is running into a similar problem and don't know how to get out of it. It can be a scary situation, especially when keeping business information and software on your laptop. HP should have done a much better job and warning users of potential problems prior too upgrading the BIOS and, of course, telling users what to do in case of upgrade issues.

I am trying to perform a clean/custom install of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my VAIO SZ-650N. I have the upgrade disc and though its primary purpose is to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, it is confirmed to work with clean installs as well. Since I want to perform a clean install, I must boot the installation from the disc and not within the OS. The problem is that when I insert the disc into the drive and start up the computer, it'll pause for a moment longer than usual, as if it detects that the CD is there, like I can hear the disc spinning in the drive, and this little gray underscore will blink on the screen, but it will never give me the "Press any key to boot from CD" message and it'll eventually just load up my OS. The disc is in perfect condition and I can view its contents and run it from within the operating system...I just can't boot from it. Even the directions for clean/custom installs that come with this disc say that it must be done from the disc, not when the OS is loaded. The problem can't possibly be my BIOS startup order, because first of all the disc drive is selected to load first thing and when I insert other bootable CD's such as my beta copy of Windows 7, I can boot from it fine. Does anyone know a fix to this? Or a workaround that doesn't require me to boot from the disc? Thanks.

Edit: It will not let me do a custom install from within the OS regardless because it is unable to detect any drives/partitions to install ... Read more

I was able to upgrade both of my laptops but usually a netbook does not have enough installed memory for the windows 10 upgrade.  My netbook will not upgrade either but it doesn't have the memory.   It has to have at least 16gb of free memory installed.   Because of the size of netbook most do not have that much memory.   It was not a problem stunt by Microsoft as I and all of my family and friends have upgraded their laptops and desktops but not netbooks.  Just for the record I am speaking honestly because I am not a Microsoft fan at all.

I have a Windows XP Pro installed with a software that has known issues installing with windows Vista but runs on windows Vista if it is installed on XP and then is upgraded. The problem I have is the Windows Vista Business DVD I have does not let me upgrade the option is greyed out and says it has been disabled.

The OS right now is Xp pro 32 bit running on a single 80 gig HDD formatted NTFS. Why can't I do an Upgrade with a 32 bit version of Vista business?

Is this "Vista business" a upgrade copy or "For new Computer" copy?

I installed a new motherboard, CPU & memory today. Prior to this, I decided not to do a clean install of windows, but just to boot up & repair if needed when the new configuration booted up. I DID do a backup of data before dismantling the old system, so I have that saved.

However, when I started the new system, the repair will not work. I can't get Windows to see the external drive where the backup data is stored.

I'm now re-installing Windows over the top of the old installation using the custom option, & my main question is this: Can I restore using the backup I made before the upgrade or will I lose all that data? When using the custom installation option, does it automatically save the old data?

A:Unable to repair Windows 7 after hardware upgrade

The correct way to start Win7 when changing major hardware is to SysPrep the HD: Windows 7 Installation - Transfer to a New Computer

Your backup should work after reinstall. Enter Backup and Restore Center if you used Win built-in file backup. Backup User and System Files

If you have an image backup you can use it now from the booted DVD or REpair CD to reimage rather than reinstall Win7. System Image Recovery

Dear HP community, i am am currently having an issue with my computer of 5 years. I have been rejecting the Windows 10 update for as long as I could but ultimately it did a self update and shortly after updating, I was unable to even start up my computer as I kept getting stuck at the loading page with two errors "error with FAT32 hard drive" and "error with NTFS hard drive". To which, the subsequent message would be "we are attempting to resolve this issue by restarting your computer" and I would be stuck in the infinite loop where my computer cannot start upi would appreciate any and all forms of help as this is highly frustrating, given that my school term has started and I am suddenly without a computer. Please help! Thank you. RegardsYi Xiang

I have a print server running 2003 standard sp2, I have been looking for a way to allow helpdesk staff install and manage printers without logging into the server and without adding them to the admin group.

So I added them to the power users group and the print operators group, that worked fine they were able to UNC ( \\servername ) to the server and install printers, drivers, as well as uninstall drivers? printers ect????.
Now the problem??? this works great from an XP box, but when we try it from a windows 7 machine we get access denied. More specifically it acts like it is going to install the printer then when it comes to the driver installation part it fails ?Printer driver was not installed. Access is denied.?

No changes have been made to the permissions I can log into an XP machine with my profile and it works fine log out go to a Windows 7 machine use the same credentials and I get the above message access is denied. I am an admin of both machines on the windows 7 machine I have UAC turned off completely. Running XP Pro SP3 & Windows 7 pro both are 32 bit machines.

I should also add that I have made the necessary group policy changes to allow printer operators to Load/Unload device drivers and under the local policies/security options I ensured that the Prevent users from installing printer drivers was Disabled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

How do you enter the credentials on the Windows 7 machine? I've noticed that you have to use "domain\username" rather than just the username in some cases.

Hi,
I haveupgrade Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit (English US) to Windows 10 Pro, 64bit also English(US) when I received the Microsoft notification in my HP ENVY 17 laptop, onJuly 29th according to my memory.
The upgradingprocess was without difficulties, like a charm; the laptop continued to worksatisfactorily and I am happy with Windows 10
Since thattime a number of updates were automatically downloaded and installed forWindows, Windows Defender (a lot), Office and two Cumulative Updates: KB3105213and KB3116869.
The laptophas i7, RAM 16GB, HDD 1TB with 750GB of free space.
However inNovember v1511, Build 10586 was not automatically downloaded and obviously notinstalled. So, my current version still is 10.0 Build 10240.
Therefore,I tried to install 10586 manually with an ISO file saved on a DVD and downloadedvia the Media Creation Tool and Tech Bench.
Aftermounting the ISO I tried to install 10586 opening its exe file as Administratorbut installation always stuck at 25%. Similarly with the program downloaded to anUSB and opened via Advanced startup or directly from the USB itself.
As anexternal device I only have an USB Microsoft mouse. I also tried to use the laptoptrackpad instead the mouse but results were the same.
At 25%always appear the same phrase: ?Something happened Windows 10 installation has failed?.
Ialso tried to deactivate both Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, but sameresult.
Both sfc /scannowand dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth commands were and ar... Read more

What anti-virus are you using? Try uninstalling it. You can reinstall after the upgrade.
Same if you are using a firewall other than the built-in Windows firewall.

HelloThanks for reading my problem. My son's HP stream 14 runs windows 10.I know disk space is tight but up until now we have managed.Windows has a new update, they call it the anniversary edition 14943.It needs 8GB space.I managed to get it to 8.2 GB but still it wouldnt run.Now it has popped back to 6GB.I have uninstalled everything I can and ave run disk clean up millions of times including removal of windows updates.I have even turned off hibernation,This update refuses to go aheadI think by virtue of the disk size, this HP Stream14 is unable to accomodate windows OS updates anymore. any suggestions welcome, but please bare in mind, I have researched this topic top to bottom for hours and hours and have come up with nothing. When upgradeing from win8.1 >win10, I was allowed to make use of a flash disk to supplement the install process. But with this upgrade, the option is not available. Thanks in advance for listening Joe PS HP, if you are listening,if this refuses to proceed, you have lost a customer for life!

Hello TvakilThanks for using the Lenovo forums. Are you certain the unit is compatible with win 10?

From the looks of it, there is not even win 10 drivers available for the unit,

You can double check the compatibility on this sheet/post:
https://support.lenovo.com/de/en/solutions/ht103535

I would suggest reverting back the previous Windows.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

I am running windows 7 x64 on a core 2 quad. I can never seem to upgrade internet explorer 8 to 9. I keep receiving errors. I have deactivated all of the addons. My computer is completely up to date but for this one. I received error code:80246007 What should I do?

Thank you

A:unable to upgrade to internet explorer 9 on windows 7 computer.

When you try to install updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site, you may receive a "0x80246007" error code
may apply - I think it still applies to Vista and Win7.
