I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Keyboard upgrade and hard disk exchange for HP pavilion P001...

Here is the Service Manual: Manual None of the optional keyboards is backlit so there is no port on the motherboard for a backlight cable and no part to install. Yes, the hard drive can be replaced with any 2.5 inch wide and 9.5 mm or 7 mm thick SSHD or full solid state drive. See p. 105 of the manual. It is a pretty involved thing to do but can be done. I would like to upgrade Pavilion DV7 hard drive to 2TB.  Will the computer accept the larger hard drive?  Please provide the make/model and dimensions, and where I can obtain.  I also own Pavilion 15-P043cl, which I also want to upgrade to 2TB.  Will the computer accept the 2TB drive?  The forum indicates the replacement drive for Pavilion 15 supports 6.35cm (2.5inch) in 9.5mm (.37inch) and 7.0mm (.28inch) thicknesses.  It recommends HGST Travelstar replacement.  (This computer runs Windows 10, 64bit) Is the hard drive replacement size the same for the DV7 and Pavilion 15? Thank you!

A:Upgrade Pavilion hard drive

Yes you can install a 2 TB drive in either or both of those models.  https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Laptop-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000LM003/dp/B00I8O6OQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8... https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Spinpoint-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000LM003/dp/B00MPWYLHO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=U... The manufacturer of the hard drive is irrelevant. Laptop hard drives are generic, interchangeable. The dv6 is going to be a much easier replacement than the 15-p model which will require extensive disassembly to swap hard drives.  15-p series manual See p. 105 My other issue with 2 TB laptop drives is they are only made in 5400 rpm models which are slow. But if you need lots of storage there is not much more you can do.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

A:How do I solve a "Hard disk 1 (301)" error on my HP Pavilion...

Hard Disk 1 (301) is a hard drive failure. It means that the hard drive needs to be replaced. You'll need to get a new hard drive and install it, then you'll need to reinstall the Windows operating system using the HP Recovery Media. If you're in warranty, HP will send you the parts per your warranty terms. If you're out of warranty, you'll need to purchase a replacement hard drive and then call HP to order the HP Recovery Media for your specific notebook. The number for US support is 1-800-474-6836.I will be glad to answer any additional questions or provide more details if you'd like to replace it yourself. It's not too difficult.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 Notebook and when I turn it on it goes to a window that says Windows Error Recovery up at the top and than it says Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem So I choose Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and then it takes me to another window that states the same (Windows failed to start... to fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer 2. Choose your language settins, and then click "Next." 3. Click "Repair your computer." I insert the CD and restart the computer but it goes back to the same window I also tried to do a system recovery but that did not work. In BIOS I went to diagnostics and ran a "Primary Hard Disk Self Test" and it said that the status of the test is: #10008- Replace Hard Disk, but I don't have the money at this time to go and buy a new one. So I was wondering if I find a recovery CD on the Web, would that fix the problem? It also says something about booting from a network adapter What exactly is that and could that work?

It happened quite often after my battery was ruined and I had to keep the pc plugged in all the time. Then it started showing a smart disk error (301) screen at the startup, but to continue i had to press the enter button. After that smart error screen started showing up the blue screens with the same errors started occuring very frequently,Like I'm on the computer for just 2 minutes and it happens, And even sometimes It doesn't restart it gets stuck at 100%.So my question is: Is it possible to change my hard disk and if so will it fix the problem for me and how much will it cost?

Original HP Pavilion ran WIN 7 well, but upgraded successfully to WIN 10 summer 2016.  [Didn't want to but MS wanted to eliminate support for WIN 7.]  Computer worked fine for months until mid DEC when MS WIN was doing an update/upgrade and we lost power at home.  Computer would no longer boot.  Tried to go back to an earlier save point with no success.  Tried other troubleshooting tools but couldn't recover.  Used wife's laptop and went to MS and created a WIN 10 bootable DVD.  Had success getting HP computer to boot, but computer needed drivers which neither it nor I could find. I have not added any additional HW to my original desktop PC. I'm planning to download drivers from HP for the Pavilion Series p7-1287c and copy to CD using wife's computer. Then reboot the Pavilion with the bootable DVD and when it asks for drivers, I'll provide the CD with the files from HP website. Anything I'm forgetting?I see there are several drivers available, but do I need to open my machine to verify what make/model of CD/DVD reader and other HW I have in my machine, or can I copy all the drivers and the computer will use the correct one? Thanks for your time.Jeff

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issues you describe. If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here. If you live in the US, contact HP Here. If you are in another part of the world, start Here. If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know - include the full Model No. and Product No. of your g3 series notebook - see Here for a further explanation. Regards, DP-K

Hi, I currently have a 1TB HDD in my laptop, but with Windows 10, my disk usage is often 100% (even after disabling a lot of stuff). I would like to upgrade to an SSD. I have a few questions that I would like your help with: Is it allowed to upgrade to SSD? (I mean does the BIOS check something like hardware signatures, and would it reject a new drive?)Should I look for a particular size when searching SSDs online? Will I be able to retain my Windows license? (I can currently create a USB from Microsoft's tool and reinstall Windows. If I change hardware, will Microsoft still allow me to retain my lisence?)I am currently looking at this SSD. Would this (and similar) work with my laptop? Thanks and regardsPrakhar

A:HP Pavilion Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade

Hi, Disk usage 100% acually means busy. There are many causes including but not limitted to the slow HDD (only 5400RPM and 8MB cache). Faster disk such as SSD will help in this case and you can use SSD on your machine, any normal machine.Normally you can use same size with the existing HDD, or smaller (over 1TB is ok but I won't recommend this). It only has 240GB, your old HDD is 1TB, this may take more work for you in the future BUT you can reuse the 1TB HDD by using it to store files/data and only use 240GB SSD for Windows and programs. And yes you still can keep Windows key. Regards.

A:HP Pavilion 11-h110ca x2 PC hard drive upgrade

Hey @ChuckBattams, Welcome to the HP forums. I understand you have questions about upgrading the size of the SSD in your Pavilion x2 notebook. The notebook supports up to 128GB m2 SATA SSD. Note that an m2 SATA drive is slimmer than a standard notebook drive as it has to fit in the tablet portion of the notebook so be cautious searching for an upgrade. The notebook should theoretically work with a larger SSD, however I can only confirm that it will work with up to 128GB as listed in the service guide for your device. You can see detailed instructions on replacing the SSD on page 44 here: HP Pavilion 11 x2 PC - Maintenance and Service Guide. Note the part number 742736-001 listed for the 128GB m2 SATA drive. Hope this helps.

Anyone know how to upgrade the hard drive on an HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop (out of warranty)? I've upgraded desktops but never a laptop before... I don't even know the name of the screws and where to purchase the special screwdriver for starters. I Googled the topic but couldn't find anything useful, and of course HP's not providing easy upgrade instructions...
Thanks!

A:HP Pavilion dv1000 hard drive upgrade - how to?

simple. clone the current contents of your drive to your new hd - use a usb to ide adapter. use a clone tool like acronos. Some new drives have kits.

then remove the caddy containing your old hd from your laptop. you may have to unscrew it from your system.

carefully slide the caddy out. if there is a pin adapter on the end of the HD remove it, you will need it on the new drive. If not, don't worry about it.

unscrew the hd from the caddy, remove and replace it with the new one.
put the pin adaper on the new hd if applicable.
slide the caddy back in, screw it in and reboot! simple too easy!

After I did this, the laptop gives 20 rapid, low volume beeps whenever I turn power on. 2) Reset BIOS defaults. 3) Reseat hard drive twice.  (Now the one screw is stripped.)4) Looked under Boot Device Options.  Nothing there. 5) Tried hard drive check under UEFI. Both types say NOT INSTALLED. 6) Tried to go into HP Recovery Assistance (F11) but wouldn't come up. Hello stevegmail. I understand that you're receiving a hard disk does not exist error. Is this correct?Have you noticed any other problems such as blue screens in the time before this occurred? I know you state the notebook was working fine but a lot of people wouldn't connect the two events. It sounds like the hard drive has died on you. The only other cause of this sort of error would be a bad connection between the notebook and the hard drive. However, this would've normally been resolved by reseating the hard drive. Could you also provide me the product number of the notebook? This document can show you how to locate that.I will await your reply; have a great day!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual Hard drive replacement is shown on page 36 of the Manual. Your laptop, by the specs, came with a 500 gig 5400 rpm drive. This model only uses the superslim 7mm hard drives so that is what you need to buy. There are also options for an M.2 solid state drive or a regular-sized SATA solid state drive in lieu of the slower 5400 rpm mechanical drive. In other words, this would be your opportunity to speed it up a bit.  This would be a 7200 rpm mechanical drive of 500 gigs and would be a nice replacement at a low cost: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Laptop-7200RPM-Cache-ST500LM021/dp/B00ISKS416/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462017567&sr=8-2&keywords=7mm+laptop+hard+drive Solid state drive which would replace the hard drive: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462017682&sr=1-1&keywords=Samsung+850+Evo If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have an HP Pavilion dv6500 entertainment laptop, Intel centrino duo processor and 2GB Ram running on Vista. The original 160 Gbt SATA HD is getting full and slow and I would like to upgrade to a new HD. I am thinking of getting a Seagate 1TB 2.5 inch Laptop Solid State Hybrid Drive. Will this fit and will it work without any issues on this laptop? Is this a recommended option?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Hi @Chris_8318?,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6500 CTO Entertainment Notebook and concerns with installing a New Hard Drive. If you keep the new SSD larger than your original and it supports 9.5-mm, 2.5-inch hard drives Sata 5400-rpm, you will have no issues. Here is a link to your manual page 23 for the specs. Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

A:HP Pavilion DV6235(US) Hard Drive Upgrade Question...

Should not run into a problem. You need to make some kind of recovery media or backup to put software on the new drive, but otherwise just put it physically in the place where the old hard drive is, boot up and install your software to it.  Seems like a lot of investment into very old hardware. Still it should make it faster.

A:Ram upgrade and hard-disk upgrade

Hi,Your system supports 16GB of DDR3L 1600Mhz Ram (2x8GB) For best system performance (dual-channel support) and stability it is best to have either one 8GB stick or a kit of 2 sticks which are exactly the same. You can buy these kits online for good prize. Hope it helps, David  Please click on thumbs up for thanksClick on accept as solution if answered your question

Your data is the first priority to concern. Please back up all your data from that old HD because it is going to die soon. It is better than you run all kinds of dat recovery tools before it is too late.

Aftet back up, you can try to fix it. But, you still do not have much confident to use it as a normal working HD. In last, replace it with another new HD.

Having cleaned the dust from my cooling fins my PC is working well again (is not overheating) and I am considering upgrading the hard disk to a SSD. In looking online it seems to suggest that there is an SSD module already in the machine and I wondered if I will see much benefit? Also the disks I see are all SATA, is that OK to be put into this machine? Lastly I see hybrid SSD/HDD devices....are these worth considering? Sorry for the dumb questions, but any help/insight is gratefully received. Ian.

You probably have 4GB of memory and you can upgrade that to 8GB. Asfar as the HDD, go to System Information/ components/Storage/ Disks and you will see the Model of your HDD. See this video (ignore it's for video card upgrade) and you will know how to uograde it.http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/z5610.htmlMemory on the left and HDD on the right.

Does anyone know if it's easy to upgrade a notebook hard drive with another manufacturer's hard disk.

I have an acer extensa 710T with a 3 Gb hd. I want to upgrade it, but acer only offer a maximum 6 Gb disk. Could I easily buy an off-the shelf disk and install it??? The current disk seems to be in a removable holster.

Thanks

I recently purchased an HP Split X2 from Best Buy, and I like it so far.  I read in the preliminary reviews for this product that the CPU can be i3 or i5, that RAM can be upgraded to 8GB, and that a hard disk can be placed in the keyboard.  I realize that this is a new product, but does anyone yet know if these upgrades can be accomplished after purchase?  My Split X2 is now configured with 4GB of RAM, 128 GB of solid state memory, and an i3. Thank you for your attention.

A:Split X2 hard disk and RAM upgrade

Hi, This is the list of available configurations:    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/x2/compare.html I think the keyboard is too thin to accommodate a normal HDD and based on the following link you can ONLY put SD card to the keyboard (point #4):   http://h20435.www2.hp.com/t5/367-Addison-Avenue-Blog/HP-s-Newest-Hybrid-Tablet-5-Ways-the-New-Split-x2-Can-Help-Your/ba-p/81505 There are few screen sizes and the 13.3" model has more options than the others. You can find more information from the following document including how yo upgrade RAM:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03822338.pdf Regards.

Dear All,

I have a Tecra A9 51G with 160 GB hard disk. Is it possible to replace the existing hard disk with a new hard disk of higher capacity like 500GB or more.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Yes you should be able to install a 320 or 500GB with no problem. I imagine a 750GB should also be fine, but I wouldn't try installing a 1TB just in case there is a Chipset/BIOS sector addressing limitation.

Hello,I would like to upgrade the hard disk of my T470 with a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB. Following some topics on this forum, in my understanding is possible to install both a NVMe and a 2,5" SSD but, when I opened the laptop, I found only the connector for NVMe (the one in place for the 256 GB hard disk). Do I need a cable to install a 2,5 SSD? About the new hard disk, is possible by chance to save the recovery partition by Lenovo and transfer to the new SSD? Thank you very much in advance. I look forward to hearing from the community.Pier

My Dell Inspiron notebook hard disk is about to fail (SMART event warnings; Crystaldiskinfo status: bad)
I am still on Win 8.1; reserved upgrade to Windows 10; status is"we will let you know when your system is ready for upgrade".
I have a replacement hard disk available; how do I replace it without new Windows 10 licence ?
Do I need to need to re-install Windows 8 (with Dell OEM installation disk) and then upgrade to Windows 10; or can I do a clean install of Windows 10 (using Windows 10 installation media downloaded from Microsoft) on the new hard disk?
As I am entitled to an upgraded OS (Windows 10) - I should be eligible to install and use Windows 10 on a replacement hard drive. Please correct me if that is not right.
Thanks
