I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So i'm having an issue connecting my desktop to my home network for file sharing. My Desktop is connected to the internet like so: Desktop ->(Ethernet cable)-> Uverse 2wire router -> Internet.

I have no issues with my internet connection, and in fact I am posting this from my desktop now. Windows Network Diagnostics finds no issues when I run the trouble shooter. and when I try to connect to a home group it refers me to the network issue.

This issue has plagued me for about 6 months now. I have talked to Uverse tech support, and many of my friends who are into computers and have gotten no answers. Computer is running windows 7 SP1 and again the router is the Uverse 2wire router

How can I make my desktop available for network sharing?

Also here is a screenshot of the network map according to this computer

Hi peeps, here's a seemingly unsolvable problem I have:

I want to network my two PCs (An Acer Vista Laptop and my old HP XP Desktop) so that I can play network games (Operation Flashpoint).

So I connect them both wirelessly to the router (a cheap SWEEX one). Now when Iook on my Vista Laptop's Network place I can see the Laptop I'm using the router (and can access it's page and everything) but I can't see my XP desktop from here. And when I go into the Desktop's network places I can't see the router or either of the computers I'm using.

And I assume that this network problem is why I can't see a server in my game.

Now I understand that file and printer sharing is turned, the firewall is definately turned off and I think the appropriate services are turned on (well to make sure I turned every single service on ) There must be some more complex reason why my XP hates to network!

Although I am by no means a noob to general computing I am reasonably new to networking. Can you clever lot help me?

HI,

I have installed server 2003 on a small network and created a domain that is the same as the public domain name (ie the companies website).

This is now causing a problem because when i type in the public address (for example www.company.com) it is trying to resolve it locally - because the local domain name is also company.com.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get round this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Dave

A:problem with the local network having the same domain name as the public network

add 'local.' to the internal domain or change it altogether.

Your public domain should not have any connection into your private infrastructure,
but you may have references from private->public; not very common.

Hello, i am new here on the forum. Im looking for any gentle help i can get here from you guys who might be able to figure out my problem.
For some time ago (around 1 month) ive been having problems with my internet from time to time which include a really slow responding or sending into the internet. It is so that sometimes my ping goes up above 200ms and stays there for a quite some time (maybe an hour or more). I check my ping using cmd and typing "ping ping.sunet.se". I can also feel that the delay is huge when playing online games, so there is deffenitly something wrong with the sending and responding. Also when i check my connection in mb/s using some homepages that calculates it, like "bredbandskollen.se" (a swedish page). And here i see that the mb/s speed is prefectly fine (around 7mb/s recieving and 0.4-0.1mb/s sending). Not sure if the sending speed is accepting thou. And when my internet is busy, like when i am streaming something or things like that, my responding speed gets a bit better like 150ms, thou when my internet is doing fine and works as it should i usually stay around 20ms ^^ so something must be wrong.
Now i woundering what might cause my internet troubeling. Any thoughts would be great, thanks!

So im at a complete loss here....

I have a windows 7 pro x86 computer that out of the blue stopped connecting to its network drives. I tried a few things like flushing the dns, re-registering, new IP finally I decided to rejoin it to the domain, big mistake. The computer couldn't contact the domain controller even though all the info was correct. I ended up doing a restore to the week prior updated the NIC drivers and everything seemed to be working.

The following day it happened again I tried the same few fixes and the solution this time was to uninstall all the hidden devices under the network adapter, after a reboot I got into the drives just fine. Now everytime the user shuts his computer down he gets this same problem. My boss ran into the same problem on another machine the other day so Im hesitant to restore, I would prefer a fix in case this shows up again.

The computer can get online and use our email through outlook but network resources are all gone. The machine can also ping all of the servers but wont connect with \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx IP or \\servername\share even with credentials entered.

Ive looked all over with no success.

A:Very strange problem connecting to network drives / network.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

If it's now happening to another computer, I'd unplug the router and switch(es) for 20 to 30 seconds. Also, check on your computer's Security or Firewall programs installed, make sure that they are up to date and not blocking the ports and network resources. You may try disabling the program(s) temporarily for debugging purpose.

An update will be nice.

Hello!
I added a printer to my network (hp c5180) via ethernet cable. But problem accords when I try to map a network location (card reader 5in1 or sth like that, is used to read SD, xD, ms cards used in cameras) from which I d like to copy images, files in explorer without extra software from HP. After I installed drivers for printer, it automatically map a network location but when I try to open it or connect to that location I get an error:

"Access code is invalid"
The network path is "\\192.168.1.9\Memory_card"
I copied this link in to my internet browser (in this case its g Chrome) and I was able to connect to the network location:

Its strange because all of XP based computers can easily connect, problem is only with windows 7 based computers.
Somewhere I found that this could be repaired with changing: (below)

Quote:

1. Open the Administrative Tools in the Control Panel
2. Open the Local Security Policy
3. Select the Security Option under Local Policies
4. Choose Send LM & NTLM responses in Network security: LAN

or in reg:

Quote:
In Windows 7, we can set the following Registry key ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel? to ?1?.

But this solutions dont work in my case.

Does somebody know hot to fix this and what is causing it??

I have a Linksys BEFSR81 router and a Linksys WAP54G connected to it. I recently installed a Linksys Network Storage Link NSLU2 to the network with a Maxtor One Touch HD. I have been able to map the new network drive to my computer that is connected to the router, but I'm unable to map the drive on my second computer that is connected to the network via the AP. However I can ping the Linksys NAS from my wireless computer.

A:Mapping Network Drive on Wireless Network Problem

like most NAS devices, the Linksys nslu2 has built in security administered through a web browser. You probably need to create a user acount for the wirelessly-attached computer, either by machine name, IP address, user id, or some combination of the above. You may also have to grant permission to the user or user group for the specific share you are trying to map. hope this helps.

I am using a cablet connection with my Zyxcel P2602 HWT modem. The modem/router is provided by my internet provider. It also supports a wireless connection.

When i start my computer both the connections is fine. After a while though the cabled connection is said to be unidentified. It works as a local connection, but has no internet access. When i run the diagnoses for the connection it again recognize the network and its working fine for a while until the same happens.

I tried upgrading the driver without luck. The version now says Atheros AR8121/AR88113/AR88114 PCI-E ethernet Controller (NDIS6.20

Hello DonkrDjay, welcome to SF!

As a test, can you check what IP number your router gives you (through its DHCP server i hope) when it works well?
Then when it stops working... is it still the same or did you get a totally different IP for your PC?

Second, if posible, could you post snips of your router DHCP settings?

I recently had a computer that crashed and had to be rebuilt. Now that it is back up and running, Im having problems with mapping network drives. Specifically, two maps that were previously working.

If I go to my network places, all of the shares are present from all computers. I can get into all of them, except for two, both on the same computer. (on a windows XP pro) (the rebuild is also windows xp pro)

\\computer1\apps is not accessible. you may not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is Denied.

I checked the folders, both show access to everyone. I can access them from another computer. Simple file sharing is turned off on all computers. I can ping all computers, and vice versa. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

any ideas?

let me know if you need more information, I can get whatever is needed.

I have an interesting problem that has been driving some pretty smart IT guys nuts. To perform my job I have to access a certain venders web pages that has security set up that I do not know all the details of. Anyway on the company PC using the company image that is a normal XP image and maintained by Comp U Com.

Any time I access this vender's web page it works fine until just after the log in screen. Once I put in my user name and password and click Ok IE just goes blank white and that's it. No error msg no nothing, its not locked up as the frame is still there and the world is turning but nothing else.

This happens on all the company PCs accessing this particular vender's web page as I went and checked. So I wanted to see if it the problem was in the PC or the network. I took the company PC home and was able to successfully log into that vender's web page from my cable modem at that house. Worked fine.

I have already added the vender web pages to the trusted zone and enabled all the active X and everything, deleted the cookies, tried some proxies etc. Every setting that can be done on the PC I have tried.

My question is what is the company network security system blocking that IE needs to work and how to resolve?

Thanks

A:IE blank page problem on company network but works fine off company network

Oh and to add this I loaded FireFox and from the company PC on the company network it logs in fine but FireFox will not display the page correctly and all the buttons do not work right so that is another issue.

For 2 years, My XP computer has had no problems picking up 10-20 wireless connections in my neighborhood, some i could connect to,some i could not because they were secured.

i decided to go straight , and purchase DSL.

i bought a new computer(vista) and got a westell 327 DSL modem, which is also a wireless router. The new computer is working fine, i called Verizon to set up the new computer's dsl wireless network, that worked out fine.

My old computer, the one i spoke about opening this thread, that computer immediately picked up the DSL signal from my new computer in the other room.. The signal was excellent and the name of the network WAS ON THE LIST of the dozen other wireless connections i could connect to. Problem is when i went to connect to my own DSL network, i got this error message:

"Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the internet or some network resource. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

I typed in the correct password, the little icon in the corner of my computer said both computers were connected, and with an excellent signal strength. Reiterating: i could still connect and go online with the other avaiable networks running the computer, but not my own.

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.
please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

Are you getting any 'link light' on the card you plug the cable into? Usually a little green light or Amber I think it is on Dell. If you are not I suggest trying a different cable from your modem to your PC.

Also, is your PC directly connected to the modem or into a router?

And when setting your IP address are you going to Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections?

The problem is that the netbook will connect to the internet and will have full bars for internet connectivity. Then a few minutes later it will just disconnect on it's own! I can usually reconnect by going on the Network & Sharing Center, then going into Diagnose problems, then clicking on Network Adapter, then after it resets, it will usually reconnect to the Internet, but lately it won't reconnect! I then have to restart the netbook. The netbook is running Windows 7 Starter, and it has Atheros AR5BXB63 Network Adapter. My friend who is a computer person searched online to confirm if the drivers were up to date, said that was not the problem. I would like any advise anyone can give me to see if this netbook can be fixed before I have to buy another! Please advise?

Hi everyone

I need to see if anyone has a solution to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and my granddaughter has a Dell Inspiron i15-157B. I added her laptop to our wireless network (Linksys wireless-G broadband router model WRT54GS). Everything works fine as long as she's here in our home, but when she goes home and we try to connect our webcams through Yahoo Messenger, I can see and hear her just fine. She can see me but can't hear me. Why would it work here and not there? I'm wondering if it's something with our home network.

Her laptop at home is connected directly to the internet, but they will be setting up a wireless router also. We both use Vista.

PCs are Win 7 Ultimate, All are joined to the Domain
Domain Controller, DNS, DHCP Server (on same instance) is Server 2012 standard
The network topology is like this: Router as Internet Gateway>Switch>Wired to Server and PC's, SIP phones, and Wireless Access Point all on same subnet. DNS and DHCP have been offloaded to Server Roles and switched off on the router.
All of the PCs have network cards that have joined the domain network at least some of the time since I set them up.
Some of them have always picked up the domain network and continue to this day.
Some of them intermittently pick up the domain network and other times join whatever other unmanaged network is available.
Some of them have stopped picking up the domain network altogether and will, no matter how many times their NICs are restarted, always join a non-domain (unmanaged) network.
When the NICs are not joining the domain, they are unable to ping hostnames of any devices on the network but nslookup of the hostnames usually works. The DC, DNS, DHCP server's IP can be pinged without issue, ipv4 or ipv6.
I am recording DNS Client Errors (ID 1014) on all of the PCs during the intervals when their NICs are identifying which network to join.

-On the PCs that are catching the domain network I am only getting a single error about the root domain, eg the domain is ad.domain.com and I am only getting errors about how the configured DNS servers cannot resolve domain.com (nothing with fully qualified

i just went out to my workshed computer and was searching for a modem driver

all of a sudden my network icon in the system tray displayed a yellow exclamation point

i am running winxp home with an intel onboard 10/100 pro v nic
my router is a linksys wrt54g

i ran cmd and ran ipconfig /all

the nic came up with a 169 ip number not the 192.168.x.x that the router issues over dhcp

i ran ipconfig /release and zeroed out the ip
i ran ipconfig /renew and windows reported timeout failure to renew ip address

i booted the computer and the nic reverted to the 169 number

i uninstalled the nic in device manager and booted
windows device manager reported finding a new device and automatically reselected the via driver for the mother board correctly
it then reassigned the 169 number

i went to the nic properties and selected tcp/ip and properties and manually configured the 192.168.1.1 address of the router
the nic reported connected but internet explorer wont load a website

i just reviewed the protocols and services installed for the nic and i see something called odyssey network that i dont remember installing
it has no uninstall option and has no properties to set(Buttons are greyed out)

wth is odessey network
what has caused the nic to change ip numbers

When I plug in the ethernet cable into rhe xp machine its says that "the network has limited or no connectivity and that some things on the network might not work". I still went ahead and set up the network but it was un usable, it was very slow.
Has any one idea what this is as the xp machines are brand new with on board network card with latest driver.

Could it be the cable or the hub?

Tomorrow i am going to connect a cross over cable to two machines without the hub to see will I get the same message.

Thanks

In our office system there seems to be a problem. My system has some shared folders. I have IPMsg software for use within the company. At times what happens is IPMsg is not showing anyone in the list. Secondly, no one was able to access my shared folders. But my internet is working pretty well. If internet is not working then I might be sure that has something to do with the network settings, etc.

Also in others system when this happens, they could not access internet but use IPMsg.

So can anyone help. me out.

Details:

All the machines are running Win XP SP2.
IPMsg v 2.06 (Doesnt matter Coz shared folders are not working as well).

A:A network problem in Win XP

ok, simple questions first:

all on the same LAN?

domain or workgroup?

if workgroup, are all computers members of the same workgroup?

software firewall, do you have one? if you do, what is it? if you don't, is windows firewall on?

let's start there.

Hi All,

This is quite a strange problem that happened a little bit of time ago.

I have a Laptop that gets DSL internet via a modem and then it distributes it with Internet Connection Sharing via Wi-Fi to two other sytems.

Recently these two other systems are refusing to load SOME websites not all such as www.yahoo.com, www.google.com

Firefox Says Connection Timeout

However it loads other websites such as www.wikipedia.com and many others. I have tried to play around with MTU but no luck! Please help me on this one.

I have also tried Tracert on some address and it works however it gives a request time-out often.

Regards,
David

The sharing system can access these websites?

You might want to take a look at our security section of the forums and do some preliminary malware detection.

I just began experiencing this problem with svchost network service. Dell Dimension 4400 XP / SP3 Using IE8 - One session open. Both XP & IE8 are current with updates. Have not downloaded / installed new APPS in over a week.Internet response slows to a crawl. Task MGR shows a second 'svchost network service' running at 99%.Ending that process, things return to normal, but sometimes that process starts up again.I ended the process about 1 hr ago, and it did not return this time. What causes this and what if anything do I do to stop it ?

You might want to investigate that process.

Hello... Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

Problem: Unable to connect to the internet thru router

Hardware: Motorola Modem, Netgear N-300 WNR2000v3 router, Dell Vostro 470

History: The above listed hardware configuration worked for internet access until I bought a new Dell for my dad. Actually, it worked for about 10 minutes (as I downloaded some anti-virus software and Win 7 updates). After I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 security updates(46 to be exact), I could not get access again. Would rolling back the updates(or going to a restore point) be advisable? If so, how would I do that in Win 7. My computer at home is XP, so I don't have much knowledge of Win 7. What's kind of weird is that my mom's computer, which is also connected(wired, not wireless) to the same router works.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

How about calling your machines, say, XP1, XP2, 2K1 and 2K2 for this thread? From one of the XP machines, which of the others can you ping by IP address? By computer name?

What router has a USB connection?

I have a WRT54G router wired to my desktop PC (cable --> modem --> Router --> PC). I also have a laptop that used to connect wireless to the router. I just had to do a complete system recovery of the laptop back to its 'out-of-box' condition. The laptop now sees my network, but wants a network key entered before it will connect to the network. Unfortunately I don't remember it. From my desktop computer (which is not the original desktop PC that I had when first installing the router), I tried getting to the router access point with 198.162.1.1, but that again asked me for a user name and password. Tried 'blank' and 'admin', but that didn't work.

So, I guess that I will need to do a physical reset of the router settings via the button at the back of the router. I have 2 questions re this. First, will resetting the router have any negative effect on my wired desktop PC broadband connection, and second, will I need to do anything with the laptop once the router has been reset.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Network Key Problem

The only reason your desktop would have a problem is if you have DSL and you setup your modem in bridged mode, you would have to reconfigure PPP. Your laptop should start connecting to the network linksys as that is the default name. You should configure security on the wireless again though to keep out unwanted guest.

Hello,

I would like to acces a different computer over the current network I am using.

When I go on the "network" folder, it shows and displays the range of computers that are currently on my network..

(I have tried in vain to deactivate on the computer I would like to connect to all of the restrictions)

When I select the computer that I wish to connect to and double click, an error message pops up, (I have tagged the image that hopefully you will see)

I have tried everything but there just has to be something that I am missing.

Might it be helpful if I were to precise that the computer I wish to connect to via the network is under Windows Vista Premium. (--> yea I know this is the Windows 7 site but lol I myself am under windows 7 so.. yeah ! ^^)

I appreciate your help guys..

Gui x)

PS - sorry.. I am in france so I bought a french version of Windows 7 --> all of this to say that my default language is in french.

I hope that won't be too much of the problem nevertheless !

Hi,
I am trying to set up some way of sharing my flatmates adsl connection. Whats the best way to go about doing this? A router? A hub? How would i hook that up and is it hard to configure it?

I have a cross over cable and two cat5 network cables. Both computer have NIC's. Her adsl is connected via usb to her computer.

A:another network problem

A Router, but you would have to find one that accepts USB from the modem. The modem connects to router, then the router to your computers using RJ45. Or check out the one at the link.http://www.netgear.com/products/details/DG834.php

I am not an expert but not a novice about networking. I have set up networks before but now I am stumped. My son has a older Dell desktop running XP with a Netgear router. He can get on the network with his new laptop running Win7 and I can get on with my Gateway running Vista. The problem is that none of the computers are seen when you click on network on any computer.I have set up file sharingon all computers and checked everything I can think of. I tried the free 7 day trial of a Cisco Network magic and was able to see and access the other computers with it. I just don't want to pay 30 dollars for something that I should be able to do myself. Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks

In the Control Panel's Network Connections, is the wireless option there AND is it ENABLED?

You can DISABLE the Ethernet Connection until you want to use a CAT5 cable.

I have been using windows media player 11 to share files with my 360 for awhile. today the network service (wmpnetwk.exe) started eating 100% cpu. i've researched as deep as i can and know its something microsoft upddated. Disabling network sharing solves the problem, but i use this function daily and can't imagine living without it. I guess i could use zune, but like wmp11 and its features. If anyone knows a specific reason for the extreme memory usage, or how i can stop it, please reply!

A:WMP network problem?

Go to Start then click Run. Type services.msc in the Run line, then find the windows media networking. It will be on automatic, change it to manual and reboot. Right now I'm streaming to the PS3 working online, and have a couple of other windows open. My computer is just a single core department store low end thing. You may want to disable media sharing in WMP first as that is what I did. If you are running Vista I believe the run line is available in the classic start menu or can be added to the new one through the properties menu, but best ask someone who has Vista. CPU currently 0-25%, and not because wmpnetwk.exe is doing anything

I have a wireless network throughout my house and all works fine except with one computer. As far as I can see it is set up the same way as all the others, however it is operating XP Home and the others Professional. The wireless connection is clearly working however because I am able to connect to the internet from this machine, its just when I come to access the other computers on the network where I have the problem.

When I attempt to "view workgroup computers" on this computer it comes up with the error "Hart (name of the workgroup) is not accessible. You might not have permission to view this network resource. Contact the administrator etc..The list of servers for this workgroup is not available". I have no idea why this is because I don't get the problem on the other computers.

If I do the same on any of the other computers the list is generated, however it does recognise the machine with the problem. When you then attempt to connect to that machine it says that access is denied, whereas with any of the other computers on the network it lets you access the shared folders.

There is important information I need to share from these computers so I would appreciate it a lot if anyone could help.

Thanks in advance

Due to v slow bb speed we have a bt service and also a EE mobile BB service.
To change between the 2 we change 3 cables from one router to the other. (The 2 pcs are wired from the routers, other cable is network printer
On BT the network is 4. On EE it is 3.
The settings appear identical on each network.
Shareing files etc works fine on network 4. Main job is a database
On 3 it does not connect to the database. Clicking on the PC in network explorer it requests a password to proceed.
Brosdband works fine on both connections
Any thoughts on what is going on

I have 2 computers, 1 with 98, the other ME, networked through a HUB. The network was fine until I had cable internet installed yesterday. Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem, plugged into the HUB. I can access the internet from both computers, but the ME is slow and I can't browse my cable companies website to get my e-mail set-up. My network no longer works unless I unplug the cable modem. Any suggestions? (I can follow "specific" instructions).
