I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

And now I can't get a hold of anyone at Dell who can help!
Here is my story:
Called in my Inspiron 9100 for service (bad LCD Screen.) The service rep in India took all of my info and created a dispatch call. They verified my name, address and phone number. All of these items were incorrect. (it was even in my wife's name incorrectly.) I was told that I should change this info. I explained that I had changed all of this information everywhere that I could have (including my dell financial account - i'm still paying for a laptop that I'll never see again!) but somehow their system still showed the incorrect info. The service rep took the correct info down (and after many days filled with many calls, Dell still does not have the correct info in their system.) The service rep explained that they would need to send out a box and I would need to pack the laptop., send it in.... I'm well familiar with this process since I support many hundred's of Dell's at my current job. I explained that Dell, UNDER NO Circumstances, should send the box or laptop to my current home address because I live in Center City, Philadelphia and a box will get stolen quicker than lickety split. I asked that the box be sent to my work address instead. They sent the box to my work address. I packed it, sent it out and waited. And waited. and waited.
After giving Dell a few weeks; I called to find out what was happening with the laptop. Apparently, Dell sent my laptop to my, and here's the ... Read more

Hello All
I could really use some help.  I have been out of the game for a few years...it doesn't take long lol.  Busy having a couple great kids.  Anyway, I have always nuked and paved all new computers(used to get a new one yearly).  Hate all the crap that ships out of the box.  Anyway, I need to upgrade badly and get a new laptop.  All seem to be shipping with windows 10 now and I really am not interested.
I will cut to the chase.  Can I install windows 7 on a brand new machine that shipped with 10?  I have no idea if I can get driver support.  That's the big question really for me.  Anyone have recent experience with doing this?  Does it basically come down to if the company offers drivers for the individual model?  That's what I am thinking.  If it's a brand new "model" and they only support windows 10...am I screwed?
Any and all thoughts appreciated.  FYI, I have been mostly using Dell laptops for almost 20 years...have owned so many I lost count.  I found a Black Friday deal but can't find info on the model...it seems new and proprietary to Best Buy.  Starting to ramble so I will just say thank you in advance for anyone who can add anything to my questions.

A:Help...windows 7 onto a machine shipped with windows 10?

If you buy a Laptop  with Windows 10 , it will have a Factory Recovery Partition.
Try it first with Win10 and if you dont like it and want to then go to WIn7.
1/ With Windows 10 create the Recovery Discs.{ Important }.
2/ Install your Valid Copy of Windows 7 on C:\ Partition via - Boot From Cdrom { Bios }.
3/ Do not Alter anything on the Recovery Partition - In case you want to go back to -  install Win 10 to Factory Default with Recovery Disks.
4/ Another Option / Remove Hard Drive { Win 10 }  - Install another Hard Drive and install Win 7. { Drives Are Cheap }.
Others may have a different view as to your options  - So Read their Views and then decide for yourself

I received an email from Lenovo indicating my X1 Yoga shipped March 6, 2018. After checking my orders at the Lenovo website, a shipping label was created March 9, 2018. I have a multi-part question: How can an item ship three days before a shipping label is created and why was my credit card charged before the item shipped? Is this not a breach Lenovo's terms of service? The expected delivery date was March 12, 2018 (yesterday). Is it too burdensome for Lenovo to update the "My Orders" area so I don't have to keep pestering their CSRs with updates? No one seems to be sure when the laptop will ship, even if it is ready to ship, and even less so when I might receive it. Kindly view the attached image for verification.

Bought a Pavilion dv7t-6c00 Quad Edition Notebook 4 years ago, on 2/21/2012.  Never imagined that I would be shipped the wrong Notebook and HP keeps telling me it's out of warranty and they can't help me.  How can it be out of warranty if they shipped the wrong product?  How was I to know I didn't get what I ordered? (I didn't then know how to access information that I now know what and how to find.)  I trusted HP to send me what I ordered and what they invoiced.1)  I ordered a customized dv7t notebook, per the invoice H121670577, s/n 2CE2100J7F, Model A1L97AV, with a 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M and 17.3 inch full HD anti-glare LED backlit Display, at 1920 X 10 80.2)  What I just found out I received is a Model A1L77AV, with an AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series, with a 17.3 inch Display with a ("recommended") resolution of 1024 X 768, and when right clicking the screen and clicking on Display, the highest resolution option is 1280 X 1024.3)  So it looks like I got the wrong model, with the wrong graphics card and with the wrong screen.  I don't believe the 30 day return rule applies to me as I didn't get the right product to begin with, so the warranty hasn't even started.4)  There are no HP choices to click on to address this problem.  The HP Chat Room could not help me and transferred me to Tech Support.  Automated Tech Support put me in an automated loop and then hung up on me.  There is no way to contact HP via the internet... Hi, my desktop is suddenly getting 15-20 FPS in games where I used to get 60-80. Even flash games are absurdly slow. It slowed down after I unpacked it from being shipped because I moved. It's exactly the same, I have made no other changes since before, haven't installed or uninstalled anything. My dad thinks it may be overheating, the CPU is at 97 C. I'm not sure what temp it usually runs at but that sounds pretty hot. There's no dust in the case or anything so I'm not sure why it would suddenly start overheating but it's our only guess so far. I'll attach a speccy, thanks for any help.

PS: thanks to anyone who helped with my laptop, it seems I can't catch a break when it comes to computers...

A:PC suddenly slow after being shipped

97 C is extremely hot! it should be half that. Take the side off the case and make sure all fans are spinning. Make sure the processor fan is clipped on tight. Check temperatures and fan speeds in the Bios

Hi, I recently built a DELL 8300 XPS 64 bit computer on line and purchased it. I had Microsoft Office Business included. Yesterday I got the Office SP1 update via Windows Update, and the 32 bit version was downloaded. Upon checking, I see they installed the 32 bit version of Office rather than the 64 bit version. Why would they do that? Am I at a disadvantage? Thanks for any response.

A:64 bit computer shipped with 32 bit Office

The main reason is app compatibility, which is why 32-bit Office 2010 is recommended even on 64-bit Windows. There are very few if any 64-bit add-ins for Office. For a more thorough discussion on the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit Office, please take a look at these docs:

I shipped my computer to myself because I was moving without a car. UPS wrapped it pretty good in custom packaging and I stuffed the inside of the computer with anti-static bubble wrap. I wrapped the hard drive in clothes (I was out of bubble wrap) and brought it with me on the plane.

I unwrapped it, took the bubble wrap out, popped the hard drive in and used it for maybe two hours, when randomly while watching a YouTube video I got the blue screen.

Hey all

I'm just wondering when will Windows 7 stop being shipped with brand new PCs. I'm planning to expand the office here (meaning get more people in) and I know for a fact that Windows 8 simply doesn't work with a lot of software we have. I'm trying to plan for the future and wonder when the market will be flooded with Windows 8 machines and the Windows 7 machines will be a thing of the past.

Also, I wasn't sure where to ask this so I hope this is the right place

I live in Indonesia, and asked someone to get me the new HP Envy x2 tablet/laptop hybrid from Australia and bring it back here. I just received it last night and win 8 didn't come pre-installed. When I power on it says:

Please install an operating system on your hard disk
Hard disk (3FO)
F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup

I'm not sure what to do, as I don't have an HP service centre anywhere near me. I'm downloading the win 8 x32 iso so I can make a bootable usb and try to install it from there, but does anyone know anything about the licensing?

As it's never had windows installed will it have the license baked in to the BIOS? I've read this thread about license keys on win 8 machines, but I'm not sure how that would apply to me.

I'm just really peeved off that I paid a lot of money for a computer and then have this happen.

When attempting to make a backup, i get "Unspecified Error 0x8000408" which equates to OS and or activation corruption.  I was going to do a "reset" on the brand new laptop, but the website for Software and Drivers for this model says there are no drivers for the OS listed (windows 20 is the only option). Here is a link to the broken page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Spectre-13-ac000-x360-Convertible-PC/14039877/mod... Where can I find the drivers for this model?  I have ordered the Restore disk set, but apparently is ts being deliverd by snails.  I was hoping to download drivers and have them available when I do the Reset option.  Anyone know whee the drivers are located? Thanks!

Windows 10 64 bit is the only OS for which drivers are supplied and here is that link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-ac000-x360-convertible-pc/14039877 So what OS do you need drivers for? The specs show the laptop is delivered with Windows 10 Home 64 bit so these are the drivers.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi all, I know that the P70 ships with two SSD trays, and that the part number for those trays is different for the SATA3 SSDs vs the PCIe SSDs (one tray has a thermal pad and the other does not).  If one doesn't order two SSDs initially what type of tray (SATA or PCIe) do they ship in the empty SSD slot(s)?  If I order one SSD, does the type of SSD that I ordered effect what type the empty tray happens to be?  If so, will the second tray match the first? Thanks!

I shipped my unit to HP for repair due to having a boot issue. Who i need to contact or talk to in regards about this matter? I don't want to spend 600 dollars for i know i didn't do.

How did you ship it? The carrier is generally responsible for damage in transit, subject to federal law called the Carmack Amendment. So generally you have to buy insurance.

Earlier this year I purchased an Asus F50S laptop. I love the laptop but I am a bit frustrated that they shipped a 32bit version of Windows with a 64 bit Laptop. I own my own business doing videography work - and I know I am not getting the full performance out of my laptop.

What are my options? Is there a way to upgrade to 64 bit Windows or do I have to buy it? I just think its a bit silly Asus would do this.

Being that I have some time on my hands, I thought Id try to help a friend out who has been in techno trama for years. She has two computers and a Palm Treo. Because shes had trouble with Vista and Office 2007 on her newer Viao, shes been using her antiquated Dell running XP Pro for two years! Ive got the latter working well enough that she can hobble on, but Id like to get the Viao working.

As I tinker with the Viao, I have several concerns about continuing with it. Im discovering a variety of maladies with getting Outlook 2003 working and it appears I am not alone. Syncing the Treo has had its own history on the other machine and I fear Ill be venturing into the unknown between (1) resolving the Outlook issues, and (2) syncing the Treo. If I can get that resolved in a day or two, it will be ok (although Ive already spent a fair amount of time on Outlook alone).

This all has me thinking about whether to use XP on the Viao. My concern here is whether the BIOS/OEM drivers will work with XP Professional. Thoughts?

A:Migrating to XP from PC shipped exclusively with Vista

The very first thing you need to do is to go to the web site of the mfg an see if xp drivers are available. If there are no xp drivers, you are wasting your time.

No, xp drivers very often do not work for vista since it is a completely different os.

Just got a very nice T420 4177CTO with two years of warranty.  I know it has been upgraded somewhat.Been a while since my IBM Thinkpad days, but I cannot find how to get a list of the shipped config of this machine. Maybe I just overlooked it, but I know you used to be able to do so.  Thanks for any help.

Go to Solution.

A:How to get list of original shipped configuration?

The CTO in the machine type means "Configured To Order" so without the original shipping confirmation or invoice it's hard to tell what the actual shipped configuration was. Perhaps whoever you got the unit from has the necessary documentation. Failing that you might want to call Lenovo support to see if they can provide this information.

Hope someone at dell can help me resolve this (Service Request Number 940696238).
At the end of November, I placed an order for an XPS 13 with i7 processor and 16gb memory.
On  11/22/2016, I received the order but found that it came with a 8gb memory instead of 16gb.
Contacted customer support and the agent agreed to send out a replacement unit.
On 12/14/2016, received the replacement unit, but it also had 8gb memory instead of 16gb.
Contacted customer support again and reported the issue.  The agent said another replacement unit would be sent out shortly, and emailed me return labels for the two units I already received.  The agent also told me I could return the two units AFTER I received the replacement unit.
On 12/22/2016, received an email from a customer support sr. associate named Siddharth Mondal, saying the replacement unit had been delivered according to tracking information and asking whether everything is fine.  He was obviously not aware of my situation about the two incorrectly-configured laptops.  I emailed back saying the replacement unit again has the wrong memory size.  However, soon after that, I checked the support request status via dell website and the status says the case is closed.
Bottom line: Sitting here with two wrong orders (original plus replacement) and two return labels for them, still without the correct order, and the support request appears to be closed.

I have 4 yr old Dimension 4300(from DELL) - originally it had MS ME as operating sys - I used the CD DELL sent to upgrade to XP Home 2 years ago... then my initial problems started.
Now Win XP will not boot (except in Safe Mode) ... an error flashes on the screen (about 1/2 sec) after the initial windows screen (not the splash screen - the screen with the 'thermometer guage' display) and XP will not boot. (I've taken a video of the screen and looked at it in 'freeze-frame' but the error is not specific .... basically says there's an error that precludes Win from running).
I'm about to purchase a retail upgrtade version of XP Home (been thinking about doing this for over a year because my current XP will not 'accept' the XP Upgrade CD when I try to add something from the Win CD to my system ... eg network programming - I had deleted a lot initially to reduce the size on my C: disk).
MY QUESTION: will I be able to reinstall some of the software (MS Suite for example) after the retail version of XP is installed?
BTW - I'm using my daughters PC because mine is down.

PS: I don't believe there is anything illegal here ... it's ALL my machine only ... I have a valid Win XP system now (even tho it doesn't work) .... I purchased the PC originally from DELL so the additional software is already installed and the CDs are mine ... and I'm purchasing a new, completely valid XP Home program.

So I bought a Dell XPS M1530 laptop refurbished from Dell recently and I was looking for some discs recently and I noticed that I had 2 Operating System discs. One is called Reinstallation DVD Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT SP1 (colored brown) while the other is called Reinstallation DVD Windows Vista Business 32BIT SP1 (colored blue). Both have the same information on it; i.e. both say that the software is already installed on the computer, bleh bleh. However when I go to Control Panel --> System it says that I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

I was just curious if by having the Business 32BIT SP1 Reinstallation DVD, does that mean I technically can install and use Windows Vista Business 32BIT on my computer (instead of Home Premium)?

A:Dell Shipped Me 2 Operating System Discs

Possibly that laptop was first shipped with Business and when it was refurbished they forgot to take those disks out when it was shipped with Home Premium. Or, it was on purpose, to speed up the process of shipping.

But technically you should be able to install Business from that disk, it has an image of Vista in it with the License key embedded in it.

hello everyoneI hope someone can help me with this, where to find the information, I couldnt find what I need on the website; I need the Volumetric Size of the Box in which the P72 is packaged, dimensions and total weight, and the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the Laptop and the Battery, the shippers are very specific about this, else they will only do freight which takes much more time and money; I appreciate the help

So I know it was Windows 8.1 x64 .. But exactly which variant is my model shipped with? Home? Single Language? "N" ? ....Can't be Pro. Is there way to determine this from the embedded product key in my BIOS? A lot of websites say it's "Windows 8.1 with Bing". But then there is also "Windows 8.1 with Bing, Single Language"....etc. How can go about making a fresh Win 8.1 install that will be to able to self-activate from the OEM key in my BIOS. I have all the Model, Serial and batch numbers etc on the back of my laptop. If those will help. This is probably a question for HP experts. PS: I erased my entire hard disk. So it doesn't have anything anymore. Fresh install.

A:Which Windows 8.1 version was this system originaly shipped ...

Hi: The product specs page for your model below indicate that it comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing (64-bit). http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/7234951/model/7553315/document/c04489978/ I do not believe you can use the W8.1 ISO download from Microsoft, as that will not work with the W8.1 OEM product key in the BIOS. You either need to use the W8.1 recovery media you made when you first got the notebook, or a W8.1 OEM installation disk. You notebook has the non-Pro verson of W8.1.

I have a new OEM Vista Home Premium computer that qualifies for a free upgrade to 7. I registered in August and am expecting a CD to arrive in the next month, hopefully.

I know a clean install usually works better than an upgrade, but I don't know if it can be done with the CD they will be shipping. I'm hoping so.

I was just wondering if anyone here knows what to expect from our friends at Microsoft. Is it going to be a full version, or are we going to end up with a patchwork kludge of an OS?

A:Installing free 7 upgrade to be shipped in October

Nobody really knows because Microsoft likes to keep this information secret until what seems like release day.

At this point most of us assume you will be able to clean install the full version using the upgrade media. Simply because of the fact that Windows 2000 or XP could not be upgraded to 7 by doing an in-place upgrade. Also you cannot upgrade a 32-bit version to 64-bit version (or vice versa) without doing a clean install.

Microsoft has stated that you can do a clean install using the upgrade media. What is not clear is the procedure for doing so.
So far it seems that:

A) a previous version of 2000, XP or Vista must be installed and genuine in order for the upgrade to work (but 2000 cannot be activated, so that's also unclear)
B) you might be required to install Windows 7 on the same partition that the previous OS was installed to (although I think this is unlikely)

This is a question for Dell:
Are you EVER going to change the factory installed build on your laptops so that tapping, i.e. "tap to click" is DISABLED?
Yes a lot of people like this feature, but there are just as many such as myself who LOATHE it. If laptops are shipped with tapping DISABLED, those who want it can easily enable it - they loose little functionality. However, in the current situation where Dell ship all laptops with it ENABLED, it is actually DANGEROUS!
I've lost count of the number of times files have been selected, deleted, dragged to God knows where or mangled in various ways, or options selected, deselected and applications unintentionally run because the damned stupid machine keeps misinterpreting my normal actions as taps. All until I have waded through several pages of user interface (not always obvious in some versions of the drivers) to turn the damned thing OFF.
Please, PLEASE disable it by default.

I recently bought a HP Envy 13-D110TU notebook.  As this has no optical media drive I later bought an HP F2B56AA USB-connected external CD/DVD writer to go with it.  The drive shipped with a CD in the box containing a number of software tools - I don't have the disc with me but I think they were Cyberlink software, including Media Suite, Power DVD, and a couple of others. The problem is that nothing will install from the disc. When inserted in the drive it shakes and shudders as though the hole in the disc is off-centre, but that's all I get. First off, I don't know whether I even need to install these - they may be necessary to use the drive but they might also just be bloatware.  If they are required, is there anywhere I can download them from?

A:Software shipped with F2B56AA external USB CD/DVD writer

Hi, Normally it is a PnP (Plug and Play) device. For software, you can doenload from          http://support.hp.com/nz-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-13-Notebook-PC-series/9604483/model/10467727 Under Software-Multimedia section Regards.

A:is 50 shipped cheap for a turtle beach 5.1 soundcard??

Well that price is about as low as I could find on PriceWatch and I think it's a good selection. Here's an article/review on sound cards, FYI:

I purchased the X1 Carbon Extreme in April 2019 (not sure which generation that is....6th?) and the two USB ports are very loose.  It arrived in this condition, and barely touching the laptop will cause anything that's plugged in to disconnect.  Is this problem common for this model? I should be able to get it fixed under warranty once I get that sorted out.  I accidentally purchased 5 yr depot warrant instead of onsite, which they are helping me correct.

I orded a replacement part, and it was sent to an old address even after I had the support guy update it. The Fed Ex tracking number that I have said it was never deliverd. The order was made 09-11-2016, and my credit card was charged. Since then I've called twice and talked to two different people every since. The zip code is still not correct checking my long in info, and I corrected that last week. After calling twice, and talking with support I still don't have any message, email or anything stating that my problem is being worked on or looked into. I still have my CSO number and the tracking number for the product to prove it wasn't delievered. After calling twice the only thing they could do is update my addrress and "push the order". Though I haven't heard anything from it. I would like some help or a sign that it's going to be fixed.
