new ad user script

Q: new ad user script

Hello,
I have been using this script for some time now, and occasionally I get duplicate users, mostly because communication is to late. So I wanted to add 2 message windows (llnexists and llnexistsyes) I wanted to run llnexists right after the username check(line
482, but i cant seem to get it to work. I keep getting stuck in "a loop" with message: "A positional parameter cannot be found that accepts argument"

Preferred Solution: new ad user script

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all, I'm trying to find a script that will allow me to create new users in a new AD including assign them to OU/groups and, if possible, assign permissions to specific shares using a flat file. Has anyone seen something or can help me piece something together?

I've got over 70 users in approximately 15 different groups that I need to add to a new domain and well over 40 shares.

Thank you

A:add new user script w/flat file

I have only seen one that would add new users over at www.swynk.com.

What I have seen is in the 2000 Server Resource kit are a few utilities that can do most of this. The ADDUSERS.EXE utility and the USRTOGRP.EXE utility.

The first adds users based on a comma seperated file and the other uses a file to add users to groups.

The third utility is called RMTSHARE.EXE. It can be used to add, delete or modify a share, including setting permissions.

Hi,

I have a mate who has very poor eyesight and I've just been helping him and his wife set up their new laptop (Windows 7). We found the best way for him to use it is to set the screen resolution to 800x600 but his wife doesn't need/like this setting and I was dismayed to realise that this is not a 'per user' setting.

However, I found a little utility (multires) that I can call via a .bat file stored in the respective Startup folder to set the resolution when they log on but now i am looking for a way of re-setting when they switch users as opposed to logging on but can't find a way to do this.

..anyone know of a way? is there a script that runs on a user switch event? I've done a bit of vbscripting in the past so am happy delving into that sort of stuff!!

Thanks in advance for any help.
Jim.

A:Switch User - run a script/command

You can run the .bat from the registry (in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key)

Create a New String value and point it at the location of the batch file.

Hi,

I need a script/batch file that I can click to quickly

enable/disable a user.

How can I do this?

A:Script to disable/enable a user

A one-liner bat file can do that pretty easy. This will do the trick:

To enable a user:

Code:
net user username /active:yes
To disable it:

Code:
net user username /active:no
Where username is the username to enable/disable.
This requires administrator permission to succeed.

Some reference can be found here:
Enable or Disable user account from command line (CMD)

Hello
Internet Explorer 7 runs just fine within my Administrator account, but after setting up a new limited user account for my daughter I now get many "Internet Explorer Script Errors" with a box containing no details. It usually pops up when I try to access one of the Administrative Tools applets such as "Services" or "Events viewer" or something similar. Sometimes it just pops up on the desktop.
It appears to be rights related because again, no such problems appear in the administrator account. I've tried setting up other brand new accounts and the same thing happens.....
I've tried disabling script debugging, notification of script errors, subinACL, reregistering XML .dlls, etc.
I've googled and googled and lots of people have this same problem. Lots of suggestions, but nothing seems to work.
I'm confident I have no malware. My system:

Win XP SP2, fully patched.
ESET Nod 32 V3.0
Online Armor
Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHZ
4 GB RAM

Thank you in advance!

We currently have a few public computers that anyone of the employees can use while waiting to have thier computer fixed, we have been finding that the Users folder in Vista is getting awefully crowded after a few weeks of this experiment.

We where looking for a way to have a timed script to run on each of these computer at a certain time of day to delete all User accounts on the computer except Public, and our Admin account and shutdown the computers so they would be ready for the next mornings use.

Does anyone have any ideas of how this can be done?

right I've read through countless threads regarding deleting user accounts on XP but none have the same problem I'm having.

Basically as soon as the window for the user accounts managment thing comes up an error box saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and no information is given on any of the lines and does not disappear when you click either yes or no to continue running scripts on this page.

Any help would be mucho appreciated

Hi there

I've trying to invoke a fix on the fly and have got a mixed windows workstation environment on my network. For particular reasons, I don't want my windows XP users to use a Windows 7 machine and equally I don't want a Windows 7 user to use a Windows XP machine. Silly I know but there you go.

I've set up a couple of WMI filters that determine the machine type and have used the following script to ensure that each user type is logged off and the PC restarted.

Option Explicit
Dim objShell
MsgBox"The detected logon method is not supported " & chr(13) & chr(13) & "Please revert to using your own computer." & chr(13) & chr(13) & "This computer will now restart" & chr(13) & chr(13),0,"Invalid Logon Detected."
Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
objShell.Run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -r -f -t 0"

For the Windows XP users on Windows 7 machines it works fine, however when a Windows 7 user logs into a Windows XP machine, it displays the message but won't do the restart bit on the Windows 7 machines.

Do I need to create some elevated permissions for my windows 7 machines.

A:Can I force a user to log off automatically through a logon script?

Try to run interactively.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -r -f -t 0

works on winxp?
------------
Why did you create those user accounts? You don't let them logon! You don't simply log them off but even shutdown.

scheduling defrag for those that don't want to leave machines on overnight.

I've been looking around the web, and trawling through CMD.exe for a good few hours now, and I still can't find it.

I'm trying to create a batch file that defrags a machines c: drive, and then shuts down the computer as soon as it's finished, having given a 2 minute warning. That was the easy bit.

@echo off

defrag c:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\TSSHUTDN.EXE 0 /DELAY:120 /POWERDOWNClick to expand...

I'm now struggling to find out how to get a simple (Y/N) input from a user as the script starts asking whether the user wants to defrag and shutdown or not waiting 60 seconds for an answer before procedding to defrag and shutdown the computer if no answer is given.

The idea is to schedule it to run at 2am every day, probably from Task Scheduler. It's an experiment in learning as much as anything else though, but I am now completely stuck, bogged down in pages and pages of useless information while trying to find the piece I want.

If anybody knows how to do it, I'd appreciate your help.

A:Looking for user input (Y/N) in batch script, with a timeout.

This is the text for e.g. DEFSHUT.BAT:

ECHO Press "Y" to Defrag and Shutdown
ECHO.
ECHO Press "Escape" to Cancel

IF ERRORLEVEL 3 GOTO END
IF ERRORLEVEL 2 GOTO FRAG
IF ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO SHUT

:FRAG
defrag c:

:SHUT
shutdown........

:ENDClick to expand...

(Note that `^[' represents the "Escape" character. To create it, press ^P (Control-P) in DOS Edit, then the "Escape" key. Other text editors allow one to create the "Escape" character by pressing ^V first.)

Okay, got another.

Im trying to write a unix script where a user provides a filename and I ask the user if it is correct. If it is the script continues, if not it will reprompt the user to enter it again, or they can chose to quit the program completely.

Im having trouble getting this thing to loop, and work for that matter. Here is what I threw together.

#Get the directory path
echo "Enter the directory path: \c" ; read dir
#Append to the file
echo $dir > /affinium/Campaign/Ad_Hoc_Chris/Snapshots/tempfile.dat

foreach directory ($dir)
echo $dir
echo "Is this the directory path you entered? (y/n/q)"
set ans = $<
switch ($ans)
case n:
continue
case q:
exit
case y:
exit

You know when you click your profile name on the start menu and you see all your personal folders (Desktop, Docs, Pics, Music, Vids... etc.)

Each time I install a new computer, I move those to the D drive. Does anyone have a script for this?

Open the Start menu and click your user name to open the User folder
Right-click the personal folder you want to redirect to another location.
Select ?Properties?
Click the tab ?Location?
The dialog box shown below will open
Click the button ?Move?
An Explorer dialog ?Select a destination? will open
Browse to the location where you want to redirect this folder. You can select another location on this computer, another drive attached to this computer, or another computer on the network
Click the folder where you want to store the files
Click the button ?Select Folder?
Click ?OK?
In the dialog that appears, click ?Yes? to move all the files to the new location.

A:Move user personal folders with script

This wont help with current machines but, with new machines after you add them to the domain but before adding the user, in other words log in as the domain admin first.

Open the registry and browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

change the ProfilesDirectory key to where you want them to point. This will work for any future users added to the machine

Hi, I am trying to develop a script that a user can run in order to set up our lab printers on a the user's laptop. The printer queues are set up on a server within our AD network. Since the user name on our AD network may not match the user name on their personal laptop, a way needs to exist for them to enter their username/password some time during the script execution to set up the queue with known credentials.
From what I read so far, I found two ways to do this, but couldnt get either to work. First way was to do a
net use LPT4: \\server\queue_name /USER: Domain\username

but for some reason, even though "net use" shows that a printer was mapped to LPT4, when I go to something like microsoft word, and select Print.. there doesnt appear any printers installed. No idea how to proceed there.

Another way I read about was to use the "rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry" with a bunch of parameters, but I didn't see any parameter that would allow me to specify a username (or request a username) during the execution of the command. Seems to me that it uses the currently logged in username, which is not really an option for us.

I also read that there is a more advanced dll from the server resource kits, prnadmin.dll but I have no idea how to use it yet.

Am I missing something very simple in either of the two ways? or is there no way to easily do what I need with batch file, and I need to consider doing something more advanced? Also, if you aren... Read more

Wondering if anyone in this forum can help me figure out what I am doing wrong with my script. I am grabbing a text file with a list of users in it. I want to then create folders for all those people and then set explicit permissions on those folders to only allow the users and admin access to it. So for the create user folder, I have...

$Users = Get-Content "C:\Users.txt"
ForEach ($user in $users)
{
$newPath = Join-Path \\mycomputer\Users$ -childpath $user
New-Item $newPath -type directory
}

This works great as I now have 100 folders created. But how do I use something like....

$acl = Get-Acl "\\mycomputer\users$"
$permission = "mydomain\$users","FullControl","Allow"
$accessRule = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule $permission
$acl.SetAccessRule($accessRule)
$acl | Set-Acl \\mycomputer\users$\$user

When I try to loop these together it says the folder already exists or the setaccessrule identity references could not be translated.

Anyone know how I loop it in with creating the folder? Or is there a way to just say...create folder based on this username, then take that username and make it the only admin on the folder along with the system admin??

A:powershell script to create user folders and set permissions

answered my own problem...but maybe someone can help me out from here. This works for creating folders and setting permissions.

$Users = Get-Content "C:\Users.txt"
ForEach ($user in $users)
{
$newPath = Join-Path "\\myserver\Users$" -childpath $user
New-Item $newPath -type directory

$acl = Get-Acl $newpath
$permission = "mydomain\$user","FullControl","Allow"
$accessRule = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule $permission
$acl.SetAccessRule($accessRule)
$acl | Set-Acl $newpath
}

Anyone know how I would then look at an old server with user folders and do a stare and compare between the old and the new ones I just created? And once I find a folder that matches I want to grab all the contents in the old server and robocopy it over to the new server.

A:Problems with User Accounts(Getting internet explorer script error messages)etc

You can try dial-a-fix. Its magical for this kind of problems. Dial-a-fix will put many of your registry entries to Windows default state. You need admin rights for it.

http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Read carefully first, then download and run it ONLY if you understand clearly what would it do and if you can take all the previous actions suggested.

Good luck!

Hi,

I just got a second hand computer from an auction, and have installed windows XP home edition and the service pack 2. my father accidentally included 4 user login profiles (the ones that appear when you first turn the computer on) instead of just the 1 for me, so I tried to delete the others. However, when i go to control panel and user accounts, i get a message saying "an error has occurred in the script on this page" and "do you want to continue running scripts on this page?" with a "Yes" and a "No" box underneath. no matter how many times i click on either the yes or no boxes, the message won't go away, and so i cant access my user accounts, and the only way to get rid of the box is to log out or shut down.

Can you please help me get rid of this???

Many thanks,
Michael

Hello Everyone,

I am new and have had the horrible experience of getting inundated with ad/Spyware. My pc was running poorly. I saw an article on optimization. I did the opt. and installed Spybot-SD, Spyware, and Microsoft Anti-spyware and followed directions as the article suggested. I also ran the utils in admin safe mode.

My system is now cleaned up (no ad, malware, dialers, viruses) but there are a handful of sites that I can no longer access. When I open IE6 a dialog box pops up called explorer user prompt with the message script prompt with a long black bar. When I click ok, cancel, x, or try to close the browser it just freezes. The cpu usage jumps to 100%. I have to ctrl alt del to back out from the browser or if I keep clicking at close the browser crashes.

I reinstalled IE6 with no luck, messed with the IE security options, deleted all restricted sites, added the sites to the trusted sites, disabled all the three above mentioned anti-spywares, but still no luck. I enabled cookies on the privacy tab, java script, etc. in tools | advanced. I followed each anti-spywares instructions to recover files and turned off agents, etc. but still no luck. I am still locked out and cannot download. All the other sites are fine, it's just the ones before I ran the Spyblaster, etc. utils.

I am so frustrated. How do I fix this? I would really appreciate any advice at all! I don't know what else to do. Anyway, hello and thanks very much in advance everyone... Read more

Here is my Hijack this log file. I did everything listed but I am having issues with the way pages load or don't load properly while on the internet. Cannot read the words very well, sometimes they are overwritten , sometimes they are huge or the writing is too thin to be read easily. For example, when I load a newpaper like NY Times, the columns are squeezed in the middle of the screen and isn't displayed so it is readable columns overlap and words and photos overlap or are sqeezed into a narrow column. I have downloaded new drivers for the display, played with display properties and cannot seem to find the problem. Wondering if it is a bug or virus or worm or something. I am really not a geek, so I need help. I don't know how to mess with registry things, so I use Registry Mechanic. But it has not fixed this problem. I get runtime error codes and it asks me if I want to debug... mostly script errors. I ahve no clue about debugging, so I don't do it. Anyhow, any help would be appreciated!!!Thanks! I'm currently trying to use my LG Rumor 2 to act as a modem for a dialup connection with my bluetooth capable computer. Everything is working great but my university, which I'm trying to connect to, requires a ppp script setup and I need to use the terminal window. So the computer dials correctly and everything works but when the terminal window appears I can't type anything although the text field appears for the username. Also, within a few seconds of the terminal window appearing I get the error "The Script has Halted." I can however right click and paste in text (but i don't know if that's relevant). Here is what I see:

Any suggestions?

Hey guys.

just finished formating my computer (using the built in windows 8 feature). once it was up and running i uninstalled all the built in stuff lenovo brings with the computer using revo uninstaller. in the procces i also removed all registry and files those programs left.. but now theres a probelm:

this pops up every once in a while. usually when i install something. note that this is just one messege out of two! the other one looks the same but reffers to a different file - Lenovo-25207.vbs which sits in the same folder.

any ideas?

Tank out.

Right click the .vbs file - open with notepad - check the second line for a file/folder reference - and then see whether that file/folder exists....

The script action, Get Windows Installer Property, can only be used ina script that is executed by Wise for Windows Installer.

This error happens when I try to install Half-Life2 on my new computer.
I have no idea what it means....

Also, When I try to update steam, it get's to 26%, then quits.
When I try to update Joint Operations, it opens the update window, then closes it without doing anything.

Is there an easy way to fix this or should I just reformat?

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen
book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop
publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I have been on here. I have had a few computer problems that I had to work through, and once again I had to do a Factory Condition System Reset. The second time in jut over a year. They did not know what was causing my problem. I talked to both Dell; my computer manufacturer and Microsoft who made Windows Vista. They boh could not figure out what was causing my problems. Microsoft recommended to go to my computer manufacturer. And Dell just said to do the complete System Reset, Also Known As: Factory Condition Restore.

Back to my questions about Script debugging and Script errors. Every once in a while I have Windows notify me of the Script errors. Also sometimes when I go to view a webpage or enter a website a message will pop-up saying that a script error occured that could prevent me from viewing the page properly and asks me if I want to continue. I do have: "Disable Script debugging?" checked for both "Internet Explorer" and "Other". I also get a little note in the lower left hand corner saying: "Done, but with errors on page."

My first question is: What the heck is Script debugging?

Second question is: What can I do about the Script errors that occur?

Third: Why do script errors occur or what causes them? I know there can be millions of reasons that they occur, but what are the most common ones?

Fourth: Is there anything that can be done to fix them from the viewer'... Read more

I am constantly (like a half hour doesn't go by) getting the script messages. The script has stopped working or the script is busy. I don't know what causes it so much. I click on debug script, but I don't understand what the debugger says or how to tell how long to wait. I just don't understand anything about this at all plus why it happens so much. Please help!

Does it kick in when you just visit this site, or does it do that at other sites?

After reading for a while I got to the conclusion that the problem is related to Kaspersky

I already tried to re-register
cd %windir%\system32
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
but it didn't work

This is what CP tells me.
C:\Users\Chris>reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA00

4A55E8}\InprocServer32

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32
(Default) REG_SZ C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Intern
et Security 2013\x64\scrchpg.dll
ThreadingModel REG_SZ Both
OriginalDll REG_SZ C:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll

Can anyone help me. I don't know a lot so the simpler your explanation is the better.

Thanks
And sorry if any errors ... English isn't my primary language

A:Need Help. Can’t find script engine “VBScript” for script.

Is Kaspersky working or not working? If you are getting a VB Script error, either something was removed in error, or you have the OS locked down too tightly with the A/V software.
