I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Problem: I keep getting this yellow ribbon error upon startup.

It says that Chrome didn't shut down properly and wants to restore the last session. However, closing tabs/windows and restarting Chrome will produce this same exact message. Additionally, tabs opened in Incognito will be reopened. I've went to Chrome://crashes, but I don't have a crash i.d.

What I've done: I have updated to the latest chrome version, as well as cleared browser cache/cookies. I have gone to user\appdata\local\google\chrome\userdata\default\cache and deleted that file, but the problem still persists.

I have no idea how to fix this problem and google forums isn't helpful at all.

I'm running a laptop with Win 8 & Google Crome and like the software to save my passwords which it is doing except for Gmail. It will not save them. Matter of fact the option box does not even pop up for me to try and save them. It will work for all other sites so is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to allow ALL passwords to be saved. If there is I can't find it and it's driving me nuts because I have to check my accounts numerous times each day. " Offer to save passwords I enter on the web " is selected in the Crome settings.

Hey there,

I have a malware problem I can't fix. When I click on various google search results I start to get redirected and then google chrome crashes and says "oops chrome has crashed" etc.
Also, when I try to shut down my computer, I get most of the way there but encounter a blue screen that says "internal_power_error" right at the end. The computer dumps memory to disk and then restarts, never shutting down properly.
An Avira virus scan picked nothing up, and a malwarebytes scan picked a few things up last week that I deleted but the problem persists.

I tried to run GMER but midway through the scan the program became unresponsive.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I searched this forum and found two closed threads about this issue. One suggested a solution that I have already tried without success. The other suggested several different solutions, but they were too complicated for me to understand how to do them. So I am posting a new thread.

Please understand that I am not knowledgeable! I'm willing to try things when given clear instructions, but I really do need to go step-by-step. I know it's annoying, but there has to be help for non-technical folks out there somewhere!

I'm using Windows 7. Every time I close Chrome and re-open it, I get the yellow ribbon across the top saying "Google Chrome did not shut down correctly..." It happens when I use the x and also when I go into the three bars menu and use "Exit." It happens after a re-start. It happens after uninstalling (using Revo uninstaller) and re-installing Chrome.

I really would like to get rid of this. It's irritating. Can anyone help?

I have had a lot of trouble lately with my computer freezing up and not shutting down correctly. One time I shut down my computer (through shut down button) and I left for a meeting. When my husband came home 4 hours later, the computer still said "shutting down", so he shut it down using the power button. Tonight I went to shut it down and when I came back 1 hour later, it said it was waiting for a background program to shutdown, but there was nothing listed - and I couldn't force the shutdown. I finally had to use the power button to shut it down. I know that is not the way to shut down a computer - and I'm probably causing myself more problems. I don't know how to diagnose what is happening. I have a Dell Inspiron that is about 4 yrs old. I run Windows 7 Home Edition, Microsoft Essentials, CCleaner, and MalwareBytes. Please help me understand what is happening and how to fix it. When I restart the computer it always asks if I want to start in SAFE MODE, etc - or start Windows normally. Since I don't know what to do, I just started in Normal Mode. I'm really baffled.

A:[SOLVED] Computer won't shut down correctly

If your computer cannot shut down because there is a program running press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start the Task Manager. Any programs still running under the Applications tab, you can choose to End task. If there are no programs there, go to the Processes tab, see if anything you had open recently is still running, like Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word etc. And End the Process.
Next time you boot into Windows, go to Start/Search and type CMD, Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y for Yes. Then restart the computer. Check Disk will start at the next bootup and go through 5 stages and it will take a long while. This may solve the problem, but if it fails the HDD needs to be replaced.
If Check Disk passes, but you still have problems, then try running a Clean Boot. If this works, then add one startup item at a time until the computer does not shut down. Then you know what the problematic program is.

Chrome is not a file browser - which is what you appear to be using it for.
You should use Windows Explorer ('Computer' NOT Internet Explorer) for browsing files on your own computer.

For the past few days when I open up Google Chrome I get a white page with a yellow ribbon at the top that says "Chrome didn't shut down correctly" and then an option to "restore" which only brings me to a new tab page.
I have looked for solutions and have tried going into appdata and changing my "Default" folder into "Default_old" then closing down Chrome and opening it again but that doesn't work (and I don't get another "Default" folder as the instructions says I should). I have tried disabling my extensions (of which pretty much all of them are ad blockers) and apps. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome but so far nothing has worked. Am I just not doing these things correctly? Is there another way I can stop this? Because I would really love to open up Chrome and have my homepages there.

Thanks!

A:Opens 6 windows when click on internet (google crome)

Do you mean tabs or windows?
If tabs...
Close all but the tab with the URL you want to open as your start window.
In the upper right, (below the [x] to close Chrome),
you will see an icon that is three horizontal bars.
Click this. (Left click!)
Go down to "settings" (near the bottom of the list), Left Click.
It will open a new tab.
In the second section (On Startup) you will see three options.
The third is "Open a specific page or set of pages".
Left click the link to "set pages"
Left click the button that says "use current pages"
and your current "list" will clear and become only the tab you have open.
HTH.

Try using the inbox repair tool that comes with MS Office. It's called scanpst.exe You may have to do a search for it on your hard drive because microsoft puts the file in different places depending on the version of Office.

When I opened up Chrome after restarting my computer for an iTunes update, instead of my set home pages, I got a new tab page with an orange band on the top with that error on it, along with an option to Restore, which just brought me to the last page I visited.
I had this happen before and I think I just uninstalled and then re-installed Chrome and it worked just fine. Not so this time. (Note: both times I did not delete browsing history). The previous time this happened was after a Windows Update but I've had a few of those since then and this issue never reoccurred until now.
I have also tried resetting my settings: nothing.
I have tried re-labeling my default folder to "default_old" (as I saw suggested by a few sources out of the many I googled): again, nothing.
Am I doing these wrong? Is there another way?
Please help!

Been googling this problem for over a year now, but still have not found proper solution.  Laptop simply won't shut down without holding physical power button for 5-10 seconds.  I have all the OS settings configured for full shutdown on lid close or inactivity timeout, but power button stays illuminated (and chews battery if not plugged in).  Then when I reopen the lid, entire system stays unresponsive.  Doesn't wake up with button presses or anything.  Still have to physically hold power button until light goes out, and then press again for a full reboot.  FYI, it occasionally hangs even if manually triggering shutdown through start menu. My overall desired behavior is complete shutdown, including button light going off for confirmation, any time lid is closed.  Any tips for a correction?  Have tried various things found on random googles, but haven't hit magic combination yet. Thanks! ~Vol

All of a sudden, my Dell Optiplex G110 won´t shut down nor reinitiate correctly.

Shutting down, the process of shutdown starts, settings are saved, and then the screen goes dark, and you´d expect the machine to turn off, but nope, the green light of the power indicator stays green and machine makes still a noise.

Reinitiating gives the same result, meaning that the machine ends up not reinitiating.

The only way to turn of the machine is to press the power indicator prolongedly until the machine really shuts down.

This may not be a huge issue, but it is bothering me as I don´t know why this happens and what effects it may have later on.

My OS is Windows 2000 Pro.

I have a problem that occurs only during shut down only. When I select Shut Down I soon get a pop up that says....the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. the label on the window is cmd.exe. Whether I click on the window or not, the shut down proceeds and eventually after say 30 seconds the alert disapears and the laptop shuts down. clicking on the alert simply brings up another alert. All this only occurs during shut down only. Also, I have no problem running cmd.exe during normal operation, or any other program run from the command window. I have read a number of posts but do not see anything exactly like this, that is happening during shut down.

Suggestions would be appreciated. Eric

It might be a program running some extra stuff.

Try a clean boot to disable all programs that run at startup.
Then shut it down to see if the issue re-appears, I thinking it probably won't, from that point you can try to narrow it down to one program by enabling them 1 by 1 on the startup/services tab on the msconfig.

On Google when I type in a subject and click I get the usual 8 or 10 possible useful choices. Then when I click on one of them I don't get taken to a particular website; instead I get a list of what appears to be large print commercial titles. Why doesn't Google work for me as it used to do?

Thank you.

A lot of Google related websites are not working correctly. On both Google.com and Google.co.kr (Korean version) Instant predictions are not working. And searching forces the website into its old version. (Unless I use the address bar to search) Also, Google Doubleclick ads are not loading in. (Even on SevenForums when logged out) The program I've recently updated was AVAST Free.
Here are the things I've tried:
1. Scanned with Malwarebytes
2. System Restore to the restore point made while updating AVAST. Except that it was unsuccessful...

3. Deleted cookies and temporary internet files on Internet Explorer. But after doing that, the logo on Google.com doesn't load in correctly and shows that x instead (Google.co.kr logo seems to load in though)
4. Uninstalled a bunch of Korean security programs used for transactions online
5. Ran chkdsk and it found no errors
Now I'm running sfc /verifyonly

It's not a problem with the router because Google works fine on my other computer that also has Windows 8.1.

Edit: Also, having my computer setup like the following is safe, right?

The speakers and monitor are on the same desk as the PC and the lego is there since my monitor sometimes tilts down at the right side.

I keep getting a box popping up on Google Chrome saying "Your profile could not be opened correctly. Some features may be unavailable. Please check that the profile exists and you have permission to read and write its contents." I looked this up and followed one solution which worked at first and then the problem came back. The solution I tried is below. I did that because I am not a big computer tech guy and I stick with simple answers. However, I have not found a solution yet and other people have had the same problem, as I found out when searching the web. I don't want to risk anything which is why i attempted to use the solution below. I don't know what to do now. I have XP Home Edition.
Create a new browser user profile
If your browser user profile is corrupted, you can create a new user profile to replace the broken one:
Windows instructions
1. Exit Google Chrome completely.
2. Go to the Start menu > Run.
3. Enter one of the following directories in the text field, then press OK.
o Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
o Windows Vista/ Windows 7: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\
4. Locate the folder called "Default" in the directory window that opens and rename it as "Backup default."
5. Try opening Google Chrome again. A new "Default" folder is automatically created as you start using the browser.

the home page of Gelsana.com comes up in chrome but some of the sub-pages does not come up in chrome and has funny diamond question mark characters. Yet, the entire web site loads in IE. That is the question and problem I want solved. The only thing I can think of is that the pages that load funky are double byte. But TextPad is not a double byte page editor, I think. And I use TextPad on these pages when I edit them. http://www.gelsana.com/_Wordpress/index.html is one of the pages that loads badly in Chrome. I also notice that the dialmond question mark character only appears after the "<" character. Here is a smiley that adequately summarizes my situation:

Good evening all,

I have recently found that when I type a search in google and click on the links provided, it often takes me to a different site and says "Jump" in the tab whilst, it's redirecting (I'm using Firefox 3 as a web browser).

Fearing that I may have a malware issue I tried to run a full system scan on Norton Internet security. NIS insists it's completed a full system scan but only states that around 5,000 files have been scanned. I know there is at least 10 times that on my laptop. Also when I try to perform a custom scan, it won't scan any files although it says the scan is complete.

In an attempt to prevent you help guys from having another task, I have read other threads with similar problems and downloaded "Malwarebytes" as a result. Although this will install, I am unable to download updates (I've set my firewall to allow this programme) and I cannot access the malwarebytes website either (I presume the malware is blocking this to make life difficult.

I have downloaded Hijackthis and can provide a log:

Dear Moderator/Computer Expert/My New Hero,

My computer has been slowing down lately and then it started to redirect the links I would search for on Google. It always redirects to Scour. Then out of nowhere, I couldn't use Facebook correctly. None of the applications, "poking," or even "like" would work. I have no clue if the Facebook thing is related but I know for sure that the Google/Scour thing is some sort of malware. I am new to this sort of thing so please go easy on me. Thank you very much in advance.

I am pretty sure something nasty is living in my computer.
What I'm seeing:
1. Firefox started showing random black rectangles  and bars when displaying pages, like parts just would not render.
2. the W3C Link checker refused me, saying I'd made over 500 requests in 10 minutes.
3. there is a general slowdown - pages take a  long time to load (friefox, chrome, IE) and now programs on the computer (outlook, notepad++) are taking longer to start up.
4. The firefox favicon disappeared from my system tray.
5. Google says they are seeing unusual behavior from my IP address and made me put in a captcha before allowing a search. "Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your network. This page checkes to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot" - I got this after performing two searches.
6. I'm having to click twice instead of once on website links.  I didn't change any settings.
7. possibly irrelevent but maybe related to #2 and #5, I'm seeing new kinds of spam. (more porn instead of ads)
What I've done:
1. ran a malwarebytes free version fullscan, found nothing.
2. ran a housecall free version full scan, found nothing but never closed either.
3. running avast 10.3.2225 as my regular, on-all-the-time protection, nothing reported.
4. just in case the firefox slowdown was not a virus I also ran disk cleanup and defragmented the hard drive.
5. ran super anti spyware free edition, which found only tracking cookies.

I'm working on my aunt's computer and she told me that the error box that says 'your profile could not be opened correctly' has been coming up. so I've deleted the webdata folder, worked but not for long. Then I created a new profile as according to google by renaming the default fould 'backup default' and a new profile was born. But I decided to test it and go on the site she was on when it crashed and had the error box and it did it again. It also said the page was unresponsive and when I tried to kill it, it didn't do anything and I had to manually shut it down. I saw in the Task Manager that chrome was still running, I tried to end all of them but only a few closed. The site was a news article from xfinity(comcast). Can anyone help me with this problem please, I've uninstalled & reinstalled google chrome many times, I've tried rollbacks and system restore. All have failed. Please help??
