Some .exe files don't work, despite showing up in Processs tab (others work fine)

Q: Some .exe files don't work, despite showing up in Processs tab (others work fine)

My problem is as follows: when launching some .exe files, either by double-clicking in Explorer or by having another program launch them, they show up in the Processes tab in Task Manager, take up some memory, some threads and some handles, and then stay
at 0% CPU and nothing else happens. Launching the file again only adds a new process, equally "dead".
The weird thing is that some files work fine: Chrome, Steam client and at least one Steam game, regedit.exe, msconfig.exe, Adobe reader, VLC media player, one compiled AutoHotKey script...
The ones that conspicuously don't work are OpenOffice (all its .exes), many Steam games, installers for new programs (such as OOo),
other compiled AutoHotKey scripts, Pure Data.
None of these problems seem to appear in Safe Mode.
So lots of stuff still works, but I'd love to fix this and be able to work on text documents and spreadsheets again...
What I've tried so far:

updated Windows to all it asked forsfc /scannow returns no problem at all (just ran it again now)chkdsk /r /f, everything is finetried a system restore, which failed even in Safe Mode, with the message about antivirus software preventing it from doing its jobuninstalled AVG, which was only possible in Safe Mode, am now running the free trial of Malwarebytes, which says everything is fine after a scanfollowed the instructions to correct .exe file association in the registry found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2688326
...and still nothing.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So just as the title says. I've look up fixes to see if it is a registry problem but for the standard fix my situation doesn't apply. Plz help I really don't wanna re-install again.

I have done a search and realize there are several threads here that address this, but I haven't been able to solve this. This is the same laptop that I posted a thread about with the bad power button. Not sure if the two are related, since the two problems seemed to crop up around the same time. Anyway, I've tried HP's troubleshooting, but haven't gotten the speakers to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked the volume (duh), and attempted to do a system restore. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that system restore had been apparently been disabled for some time, and there were no restore points to choose from. I've googled this of course, and besides the things I've tried, it seems that either the headphone jack switch is stuck or the speakers are dead. Would both speakers give out at the same time? I've tried jiggling/rapidly pulling a headphone plug in and out to dislodge the switch, no dice. Anymore ideas I can try? I've been using external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, but this gets annoying after awhile.

Im using Windows 2000 5.0 build 2195, service pack 4

Physical memory available 261,616k

When I try and download AdAware or files received via hotmail & gmail, sometimes it gets about 10% done then stops, sometimes it doesnt start at all.

Im using firefox and ie6

Ive cleared the cache for both, Im allowing 500mb for tempory files (but I've deleted all those), I have 2gb free on my C drive.

I suspect I might not have write rights to my documents&settings/temp file where this stuff would go whilst it was downloading (maybe?) - I've gone into properties for Administrator etc under C:\documents & settings and checked I had full write/read control over everything but thats when I stop pretending I know what I'm doing.

Thanks for helping, if you can!

hey, im aware that this problem is pretty frequent after browsing forums a couple of times but never actually found a solution to the problem.

ok, so, few months ago, my computor was pretty messed up, swamped with viruses etc

so ive cleaned my pc up, roughly got everything back on track

apart from audio

k so audio works fine with any media players installed on my pc, wmp, winamp, vlc, nero, real, etc. fine, movies and music, even online radio1 works

the problem is that, where you control the windows audio in the little minimized icon which is found on the bottom right taskbar, that has dissappeared, which probably has something to do with it, but also, when i have numerously attempted to play audio videos on youtube or myspace, or music on myspace/profiles, that kind of thing

i get no sound at all, video generally plays fine just no sound whatsoever

im curious as to how it happened in the first place, but also would ideally like to find a solution for it as it is quite annoying

any advice would be greatly appreciated

Friend's computer started up with a Critical Warning image and telling him to download this antispyware thing in order to remove it. Some files that I found connected with this are: FNTCACHE, critical_warning.html, AVR09, winhelper.dll, and 41. I tried running DDS but to no success. Same with Rootkit Repealer. I managed to install and run Hitman Pro 3.5 and Malwares Bytes Antimalware, but both were stopped after a few seconds within scanning. Afterwards, they didn't work at all. Couldn't install Superantispyware or CCleaner. Spybot Search and Destroy was changed to read only and Ad-Aware wouldn't work. Any suggestions? Is there any program out there that manages to get rid of this?

I have a friend who's computer works great on my network and my computer works great on his network, but when his computer is hooked to his network internet connectivity is slow and intermittantly fails.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

I've spent 2 days on this and am reaching out for help because I'm at a loss.
As the title says, it's only internet internet that's not working.  Other computers on the network are not affected & no proxys in use. IP4 only, same issue on different networks with DHCP or a manual address configuration.
This occurred after the KB2809289 update was installed and the computer rebooted.  I uninstalled it but the problem did not go away.  I am unable to roll back to a prior restore point either, that keeps failing.
I have run with no positive results:
netsh int ip reset & netsh winsock reset
Something that's strange is that when the computer reboots I get a message about "Ruby interpreter stopped working".  Even after disabling all startup apps (but not services).  I'm not sure where this is coming from; I did a system search for the application name (rubyw.exe) and offending module (msvcrt-ruby191.dll) listed in the error message but the only hits were in Appdata/Local/Temp
Any help or suggestions on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 3, 2002 version, Internet Explorer 8. Whenever I try and run Internet Explorer, it says that it can't display the page, for whatever reason, suggesting I diagnose connection problems. I've uninstalled all the toolbars I can find, but that doesn't help a bit. Yet I can properly browse the internet perfectly fine with Firefox 3.5.

It's worth noting two things: I recently had a virus infect the computer, posing as antispyware, which I had to wrestle with for an entire morning before Spybot S&D got rid of it. The second is that the MSHTML.DLL (when i use the command regsvr32 mshtml.dll in the Run window) "loads, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered."

Is there anything I can do about this? Any more information you might need?

This is my kids' computer, we've had it almost one year. It used to work without any problems until about 3 months ago. Every minute or so, Lego Star Wars game freezes, will then unfreeze and work fine for another minute or so, somethimes it crashes completely. Usually after starting game, the screen will blank and the game minimizes itself, you can then maximize and it works fine. I've tried everything I can think of: uninstalled game, reinstalled game, virus scans, spyware scans, driver updates, defrag, disk clean, increased paging file size... If I'm using Radeon 9250 PCI, shouldn't the Intel 828656 Graphics Controller be disabled? Maybe one of the recent automatic updates changed the driver settings. Any advice?

Hi folks,

I am hoping that one of you whizz kids can help me. For a few weeks now, IE7 only works around 50% of the time. When it stops working it attempts to connect to internet sites but nothing happens. It acts as if there is no internet connection at all. It is the same for all internet sites. I can try it again 10 minutes later (without re-booting the PC) and it will work fine again for a while.

My internet connection is 100% stable and other browsers such as Opera work fine, even when IE7 stops working.

I tried uninstalling SP3, SP2 and IE7 and reinstalling them all but it made no difference. I am currently running XP SP3. I tried posting in the virus/malware section of this site but the experts can see no evidence of any malware or trojans etc. My system appears clean.

Do any of you have any ideas why this is happening? It happens maybe 10 times per day on average and is very annoying.

A:IE7 not working. Other browsers work fine.

By the way, here is a screenshot of IE7 when it is trying to access Google.

My Internet Connection is fine but I'm just having problems connecting to ONE site (http://www.photobucket.com) on the whole of cyberspace. Access was only broken since 2 days ago. I've changed nothing in terms of configuration. I just work up one morning and it became like that. T_T

I am using Netgear WGR614 v4 (Firmware is the lastest version.), Windows XP Professional SP2.

Measures I have taken so far:

1. Cleared Internet Cache and Cookies.
2. Rebooted router, modem and computer.
3. Done spyware and virus checks. (Spybot, Ad-Aware, Norton Antivirus)
4. Tried accessing it in different browsers. (IE7 and Flock 0.7.14)
5. Confirmed that my ISP is not the culprit by doublechecking with a friend who has the same ISP. She reaches the site fine.
6. Turning off Firewall. [Norton Internet Security 2005]
7. Adding http://*.photobucket.com and http://www.photobucket.com to the Internet Options Trusted Sites.
8. Resetted my router settings back to default ones.

Some Observations:
1. My notebook connected to wireless network accesses the site fine.
2. When I rebooted my router, modem and computer, access was granted to me temporarily. IE. I could hit the homepage, but after that access is lost.
3. I can access the site through a proxy server fine.

ipconfig/all gives:

It seems to me that once in a blue moon, there will be a program that will work fine for a while, but then later refuse to run until I reinstall windows. The program that refuses to run this time is called Nebula (don't worry, it's freeware). I've even redownloaded a fresh copy and I get the same result. I double click the icon and nothing happens.

I would watch the processes in the task manager while I tried opening it. The process would appear for a moment, then disappear. I've opened up and watched Process Explorer (www.sysinternals.com) carefully. I've taken note on what processes are running when I'm trying to open Nebula, by holding Enter with Nebula selected. The only process that is consistently working while I'm trying to open it, is explorer.exe, and I doubt that is the culprit.

Since I can't find anything in the processes, should I look for something in the registry? What else can I do to troubleshoot when this kind of stuff happens? Maybe it broke from one of the Windows updates?

A:Program worked fine before, won't work now.

Hello eriknoc, Welcome to TSF!

Please try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD.

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2, you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow ?please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Please post back with the result, or if there are any further queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

I can't get my head around this one.

I've not played an audio CD in a while, but I put one in today and it simply didn't work. The PC failed to recognise the CD was in the drive.

I thought it might be the CD and so tried another CD, and another, and one more for good measure - none worked.

I tried a DVD to see if it was the drive, the DVD worked fine. I tried a software CD, that was fine as well.

The drive is slightly old, from my previous PC which I upgraded in December/January. I've not tried a CD since and I'm wondering if the issue has been there all along.

Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Cannot connect to any websites MSN/IRC work fine HJT log inside

Hello rhrobert and welcome to TSF,

We prefer a more comprehensive set of logs to assist in detecting any malware that may be present. As noted in our sticky topic (Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log, download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized

My wireless at work is painful or non-existent at work -- but works fine elsewhere.

A connection is always made to the router, but it will just completely freeze -- or move at was seems like 32kb/s -- making attaching files in Gmail almost impossible.

I don't understand the inconsistency -- other people in the office do not have this problem, although some people have had it occasionally. I have no problems whatsoever at home -- so I presume it is some interaction with the router?

I may have the same problem, at times, elsewhere when connecting to public networks -- but that may just be speed in those cases.

I did do a driver cleaning, and may have removed the factory installed drivers -- I went to HP for their G-72 drivers, and downloaded them all -- since I wasn't sure which was the proper one for the wireless adapter -- and installed them all -- which at least made the bars of connectivity appear accurately, whereas before it would always show empty with an orange star even if connected well.

Any ideas? -- Here is my ipconfig /all

I see o DNS. Doesn't your work ISP provide a DNS
Maybe it uses IP routing instead of DHCP
I see an awfull lot of Tunnel adapters. Don't think I've ever seen so many on one machine.
I really don't know for sure looking at that as i am not a network specialist. I just seen this gone unanswered for many days and thought I would try to offer some help to the neglected threads.

I have an interesting dilemma. Most videos that I watch in Firefox 12.0 via YouTube work just fine such as this one: Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra) - official video - YouTube
The problem is that a handful lag firefox horribly when the video is being displayed (i.e. I can scroll down to the comments where the flash part isn't showing and it works just fine, but when I scroll back up to show even a tiny portion of the flash player the lag begins again.) Here is an example of a video that always lags: Gotye - Easy Way Out - official video - YouTube Even when the video is paused the flash player causes this lag, and as far as I can tell some videos will always do it, as if there is something inherently wrong with these particular videos. It's not just video lag either, it's lag throughout firefox, from scrolling to typing.

I've tried clearing firefox cache, flash cache, updating flash, etc... but it just won't quit! Any ideas? PC stats posted below.

i7-2600K @ 4.5GHz
GeForce 460se running dual head via DVI
8GB DDR3 PC-1866
3TB total storage spread across 3 SATAIII drives.

Thanks for any insight! Let me know if you need more information.

A:Most videos work fine in Firefox... some lag horribly.

It's also of note that when I watch that video in the embedded player as it is posted above^ it does not cause any lag. It is only when viewed in the native YouTube environment.

Hi All,

Windows IExplored(9)-32 & Crome-32 do not work. (Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resolve the server's DNS address.)
IExplorer(9)-64 works just fine. I've been researching my issue for a few days now and have no success inplementing the recommended fixes I've found, which included - I'll rip them off for you, without looking up the exact phrasing:command line winsock flush ets.
"Turn Windows features on or off" uncheck, restart, recheck.
Complete un-install of windows Internet Explorer and re-install (from Windows update module).

There seems to be something fundamental to the Windows 7 64 Ultimate operating system that is preventing the 32 bit browers from working.

There are 2 potential issues that I feel may have contributed to this situation:I had installed ASUS Gamer OSD. When I tried to operate the program, it said I had installed a 32 bit version and it would not run on a 64 but system. Suspecting this to be a potential cause, I tried to unistall it, but it would not go. I bought Uninstall Tool www.crystalidea.com and used 'force removal'. This appeared to largely remove it. I then searched the registry with regedit and removed all evidence of GamerOSD & SmartDoctor (wich was installed at the same time as GamerOSD). Unfortunately this did not fix the situation.
I had also recently installed a Startup delay application to 'feed in' certain startup applications upon booting the system. I wasn't ha... Read more

First of all, this is the setting in my house.

The internet service is provided by my landlord, which should be Verizon Fios. He provides a additional internet cable to my room. I plugged that cable into a Netgear router to create a wireless network in my room. Please note that my desktop is also using WiFi, no cable was plugged into it.

Everything works well until recently. The wireless internet works well on my laptop, or my Smartphone, but not my desktop. I tried to purchase an internet cable and hooked it up between my desktop and router to make a direct LAN connection, but not working (I did the same to my laptop, and that worked).

Another thing is, for my desktop, the internet status icon on the task bar shows that the internet is successfully connected and I have internet access (both when using WiFi or LAN). But I just can't get online, and it shouldn't be the problem of browsers, because I can't go online no matter what browser I am using (can't even do update for my AVG virus protection).

And one weird thing is, sometime I can go to youtube (I can even watch the video on youtube) or google, but all other site fail.

Please help.

My top suspect would be a mis-configured or corrupted firewall (not Windows') or security suite.

I have a USB keyboard which normally works fine but is not working when I enter the BIOS. (Which I am trying to do BTW so that I can boot from the the Win10 ISO install disk. I'm on Win7 now and I've tried the easier way many times but it always fails.)

The keyboard is plugged directly into the PC (i.e. is not going through a hub).

If it might matter the motherboard is a Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H which supports AMD Phenom and Athlon processors.

I used to use a non-USB keyboard on this machine but that port stopped working so I don't think I have the option of trying a non-USB keyboard.

I wouldn't mind replacing this system but I am too busy to do that while the upgrades to Win10 are still free.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Bob

A:USB Keyboard Does Not Work in BIOS (But Otherwise Works Fine.)

not all bios's allow the use of a mouse, newer UEFI Bios's do but on older machines it's not an option , but for your keyboard you could look for a Legacy Option in the bios under USB which should allow USB to work outside Win7 too.

you could check the PS2 ports are still enabled too while in the bios

I have seen a problem quite like this. IE is not my default browser. I uncovered this due to an application that is hard coded top open IE. When I open IE nothing happens. When I enter a url it just sits there like it is not connected to the Internet. No errors, nothing. When I click on the gear everything is grayed out except File, Safety and View compatibility settings. I cannot get into settings. My first thought was corrupted files. I ran SFC /scannow and no errors are reported. Also did a DSIM restorehealth.
I am stumped at this point. I have turned off IE and brought it back to no avail using the Windows Features turn off/on option. If this was any other application I would delete and re-install but this is IE. Any attempt to download and install another version is blocked by MS indicating that it is already installed. Everything appears to be operating just fine except IE. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A:IE no longer operative. Other browsers work fine.

Have you verified it's not in Offline Mode?

Hey All,

Just trying to see if anybody had any suggestions or advice, I'm trying to complete this build and the only thing not working is the Graphics card. Specs Below:

Biostar H61 Motherboard
Kingston 8GB Ram
Kingston 2x64GB SSD (128GB Total)
Galaxy GTX 460 GC 768mb
Antec "Hardcore Gamer" Edition 400w PSU

Basically, I've installed every single Windows Update, Driver, and Bios Update.

I've tried installing my old 9600 GT and it did not detect that either.

I think it's the Motherboard or PSU.

Both Motherboard and PSU are new as is the GTX 460. The 9600GT was pulled working from a working system so I know thats not broken.

The 9600GT Required one 6-pin pci-express adapter.
The GTX 460 Required 2 6-pin pci-express adapter.

I'm not sure which one the problem is because everything is new and everything works aside from the Graphics Card not being detected.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Hi again, this problem does not apply for me but for a friend, he asked me to post this here since he cannot use any of his browsers.

Recently my friend found out that his browsers does not load most websites. Sites they could load are Google, searches on Google, and TD Canada Trust. Sometimes he is able to load a web page but the images and advertisements would not come up. For Youtube the video loads fine, and fast, but the icons and the images do not. Online gaming and downloads are also in order, which indicates that the connection is stable.

This problem persists for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. He has tried turning off all his firewalls and anti virus programs (windows integrated and Trend micro), resetting internet explorer, reinstalling Firefox, clearing all data, virus scans. Even System Restore to a previous date. Basically all of the basic fixes we could think of, but the problem still exists.

Searching the forums and Googling this did not yield any results, for most of them are Norton-related problems.

Any contribution is appreciated, thank you in advance.

A:Browser does not work, Internet connects fine

Did you try reinstalling firefox or internet explorer? If you could load some websites but not others, it may also appear to be an antivirus block/ad blocker problem. Did he recently install any new antivirus protection?

I'll begin by saying how it happened:

My PC used to be filled with junk files and had some viruses that got through my anti-virus and couldn't be cleaned. One of my co-workers suggested I do a factory reset, and while I am an avid gamer, I don't really understand much when it comes to hardware, so I let the IT company I usually go to do the reset.

Prior to the factory reset, I had many games on my PC - Two of them were League of Legends, and the non-steam version of an MMORPG called Wakfu.

After the reset, I redownloaded these games, and once I opened the launchers for either of these two games, my PC screen froze.

I've recently purchased a LaCie Porsche for my windows, but I've just read in a review that it is especially designed for Mac.

Does it work as well for Windows? I still have time to get a replacement, so I'd appreciate any information you could provide.

I've connected up an amp using auxiliary to my PC using RCA to the OUT (green) port in the back of my soundcard (SB Audigy LS).
I also have a pair of Corsair Vengeance wireless headphones connected via USB.
And lastly I have a Logitech webcam with built in microphone connected via USB.
I'm running Win7 Ultimate x64.

I get sound through the headphones fine and the built-in mic also works fine. I don't use the mic on the webcam but in the Sound\Playback Devices dialogue box, under the Recording tab I cab see it responding when I talk.

But, no matter what I do I cannot get any sound from the soundcard out to my amp. I've disabled the onboard Realtek drivers. I've changed the default speakers to the Audigy wherever I can find a setting. I looked in the BIOS (found nothing). I unplugged both the headphones and webcam, rebooted, still nothing.

I've previously had this machine plugged into an amp without a problem. I did rebuild the whole machine relatively recently and reinstalled everything. It has not been plugged into an amp for quite some time (the old amp died) but it's always just worked before. The amp I'm running is only days new and my CD player and turntable both play fine. I can hear feedback through my speakers as I plug the cable into the soundcard, but once it's in, nothing.

Please does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try?

A:No sound via SB Audigy LS through amp. Headphones work fine.

First, when you use a USB device, the sound card doesn't really come into play.

Do you have a regular headset (not USB) that you can try on the GREEN speaker jack on the SoundBlaster? That would confirm whether there is a problem related to the sound card or if the problem is in the cable or amp.

Check the Device Manager, Sounds section. Is the SoundBlaster listed and does it show working OK or an error?

You could also try the Realtek. I have a recording studio so I'm attuned to audio quality and I find the Realtek is just as good on sound playback as the SoundBlaster's. Although I have high end equipment for recording, I use Realtek for all PC audio.

Small home wireless LAN, Netgear WGR614v4 router, Using WPA, two XP machines, one Vista (home Basic ),

Stage 1) all working ok for many hours, except when
2) Vista machine goes to sleep mode. On wakeup, no connection. Network SSID is visible, good signal, but repeated attempts to connect fail.
3) Other computers connect to router, and internet fine. They can also standby/poweroff and restart fine. Still connected.
4) Reboot Vista computer, no help. Network settings look normal, just no connection to wireless router. Incredibly irritating Vista diagnostic tool suggests I connect to a another network, or recycle the router. (If the router was close enough to be easily recycled, I would just plug in an ethernet cable. But it is not, and I am tired of unnecessary trips to the basement.)
5) Power cycle router, and everything fine again.

Does not happen with every sleep cycle. No clue what makes it fail sometimes and not others.

Any suggestions? This happens about every other day, so of course, it will not fail when I want it to, but if anyone has an idea, I will get ready for the next breakage.

A:Wireless LAN fails, all parts work fine.

Just in case anyone else is having this problem, I found more information on the trigger--If Vista goes to sleep while Firefox is active, the connection is broken. The only way I have found to reconnect, is reboot the router.

If Firefox is closed first, before the Sleep mode, all is well. Restart Vista, the connection resumes fine. So, its a work-around, but I am even more confused as whats up. Firefox interfering with some Vista<->Netgear secret handshake?
