Word 2000: Runtime Error 5 at startup

Q: Word 2000: Runtime Error 5 at startup

Hello folks, and a big welcome to ya. Have a user who, when starting word 2k, gets the Big Error 5, Invalid Procedure Call. Prompts for End or Help, no help displayed. SR-1, SP-2, Jet SP-5, and all Win2k service packs are installed.

And, by the way, it is not being caused by stamps.com as described in this (only) MSKB article:

<a href="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q267/5/72.ASP" target="_blank">WD2000: Error Message: "Run-time Error '5'" When You Start Word</a>

Any ideas out there? Pre-thanks

Preferred Solution: Word 2000: Runtime Error 5 at startup

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Word 2000: Runtime Error 5 at startup

Well, there's kind of another MSKB article about WD2000 and Runtime error '5': "Invalid procedure call or argument", but I don't think it's relevant.
Actually, in all honesty, I wouldn't really know if it was relevant or not.
Maybe it is. Maybe it ain't.
So here......you look at it: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q201/9/79.ASP

And, (what the heck, while I'm feeling foolish), I sometimes go to a help forum for an application that's written in VB. Whenever any Runtime error arises, instructions are given to download and install Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Module SP, (from ZDNet), and then to reinstall the VB application.

That's probably not relevant either.

But those are my ideas, out here...

OS: Win 7,x64
Software involved: Office XP (32 bit software)

Initial problem: missing some functionality of WORD & EXCEL due to missing MS Agent. MicroSoft does not include MS Agent in OS's past Win XP. So I downloaded and installed a patch from Microsoft for the missing MS Agent (a warning was given that the patch was not fully tested).

Everything worked good for awhile but than WORD came out with this error message above and my Gadgets would not work. So I uninstalled MS Agent and the Gadgets worked again but WORD still has the error. I am able to open WORD wihtout a doc by the safe mode option and then open a document.

Things tried: Uninstalled Office XP and reinstalled - no change; tried a repair from the CD - no change

Any suggestions?

I think Office 10 is Office XP.
first thing first, you need to be logged in as administrator
you can remove program, delete registry of office from system, delete Microsoft office from program files, also from Document and settings/USERNAME (the account you logged into) Application data, Microsoft.
here what you need to delete from registry
to access that click start --- run & type regedit. once opened browse to this directory & delete Office folder (the whole folder)
reinstall Office.

I'm running MS Word 2002 and Windows XP Home, both factory installed software. Occasionally when I exit a Word document I get a window that reads: Miscrosoft Visual c++ Runtime Library. When I click on the window it completely shuts down Word.

I visited the Microsoft site some months ago and followed their instructions to fix the problem but it obviously didn't work. Furthermore, Word is extremely slow - even to the point of there sometimes being a delay before my keystrokes are manifested on the monitor.

A:runtime error in word 2002

I think you have a corrupt template normal.dot
This is not your exact error, but that is the proceedure to follow.

Troubleshooting word problems

To see if it's a corrupt global template or some add-in that is loading on startup, go to your Start button and click on Run. In the Run box, type "winword.exe /a" (without the quotes, but WITH the space before the slash). If Word launches OK, then it probably is either a bad normal.dot file or a corrupt add-in (since this switch launches Word with a clean, empty template and no add-ins). To get yourself a new, uncorrupt template, simply close Word and search your computer for normal.dot and rename or delete it. (If you find more than one, rename or delete ALL of them.) When you launch Word again, it will look for normal.dot and if it can't find it, it will create a new one.

I click ok and another window pops up saying "runtime error 217 at 020DE886" When I click ok again, everything's fine. Another problem is that when I startup with a different account, I can't even open explorer or my computer. I get a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error". If I log onto the other account with the runtime 217 error and press ok for that, the other accounts will be fine. I heard that the runtime 217 error usually occurs because of the google toolbar, but I don't even have it installed. What should I do to get rid of these errors?

I have built a protected form in Word 2007 but the eventual user wants the facility to extend the number of rows in certain tables as the 'standard' amout I have set out may not be sufficient for their needs which can vary from form to form. I knew I would have to utilise a macro to do this but this is new territory for me so I did some Googling and found a suitable macro script on another forum (see script at end of this post). I tested this out on a dummy document using a keyboard shortcut and it worked fine but when I use the macro on the proper form I get a Runtime error, even though the macro does add the extra row. A:Microsoft Word 2000 aka MS Word 2000 - Sending Email - Need Help Configuring

Word itself does not send (or receive) e-mail messages. You may configure Word to be your e-mail editor, but it still requires an e-mail program (such as MS Outlook) to send messages.

You can send e-mails from within Word by using File, Send To, Mail Recipient (or Mail Recipient as Attachment), but this still uses Outlook to do the sending and receiving.

What do I need in order to fix this problem? This pop-up message appears when I patched my game

A:Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error" error message

According to the error message the application (the patch you installed) isn't working right and for you to contact the folks who made the patch. I'm guessing that would be the support team for Audition Dance Battle or perhaps the support folks for all of e-games.com.ph

::E-Games - Audition Dance Battle::

E-Games Portal

Let them know exactly what the error message says, the specific ID number for the patch you installed, specific info about your computer (make, model, version of Windows you're using, amount of RAM, CPU, etc) so they can figure out what's wrong. In the meantime, you could try uninstalling the patch while waiting for a response. Sorry I can't be more help.

I started to design a form in Word 2000, using ActiveX textboxes, I then changed my mind and decided to go with standard Word formFields.

In design mode, I went through the document and deleted the ActiveX text boxes, and inserted my formfields.

I kept one ActiveX textbox, for Enduser notes.

Now upon entry of the document I get this error,

Can't exit design mode because Control 'ExecOfficerNotes' cannot be created.

Before the revamp ExecOfficerNotes was the name of the ActiveX Textbox, but in the revamp process the name was changed.

Help I need these forms.

Hello. I am having a problem with Microsoft Word 2000. Recently I installed Windows 2000 operating system, and Word worked fine for a awhile. Then I started to receive a pop-up window while using word, saying "Windows generated an error in "WinWord.exe", and an error log is being created." I can open up Word 2000 just fine, and actually open a file. The problem comes when I go to type or edit a document, thats when the error window pops up. I have tried renaming normal.dot to abnormal.dot and that didnt work. I also tried regedit and changing the name of the Word folder. I have reinstalled Office 2000 about 3 times and nothing seems to fix it. Please help me out with some other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I am so frustrated. I've recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my system. When I tried to reintroduce Word 2000, I get error 1402: "could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\9.0\WORD\INSTALLROOT ... verifiy that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel." I searched online and found instructions to make changes to the registry. I thought I followed them, but I still get the same message. I've tried to uninstall, reinstall, repair, but with each attempt, the process bars progress part way... then the same message again and the bars shrink and I get a fatal error message. I am so frustrated. I could reinstall my system again, but I sure don't want to do that. There has to be a way around this. Maybe someone could tell me what my registry key should look like??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My MS Word (from Office 200 Premium) stopped working yesterday. ie you get a message saying it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then you have to press <OK> to let it close. Why don't they have a <Not OK> button?

So I follow the directions and go to the Microsoft site, and am delighted to see that many people have had this problem, and so they have found a cure, which I can now download. The download didn't work, and I get another problem, but this is ok, because Microsoft has also got a cure for this one too!

So I download this one, (a much bigger file) which is a big update. But the install doesn't work either, and I get "Error 1328 when applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PTBO.tmp" message. Apparently I had already tried to "update it by other means" and so it wasn't going to work.

So I got the disk out and tried repairing it. But it didn't like that either, giving me another error message.

FORTUNATELY, I had installed Office with Ashampoo, so I completely uninstalled Office, and reinstalled it. I really thought that would do the trick, but when I tried to open Word, it gave me the original "needs to close" message.

So I went back to Microsoft's Site, and tried the whole update procedure again, but just ended up where I was last time:

" Error 1328. Error applying patch to file <admin image path>\SETUP.EXE. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be... Read more
