Hi, You guys!
I am have a small problem. I play torrent and wanna improve my speed upload and also download. I have found information about vps on internet. But still not quite understand. Is somebody can help me? How do i have a vps? And what i have to do? I am so glad to join our forum. thank you all.

Preferred Solution: Need your help!!! About Vps(Virtual private server)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Need your help!!! About Vps(Virtual private server)

Hi vuvankhanhdhhh welcome to Sevenforums,

I believe you are talking about a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

To start you off, here is some reading material about VPN's: HowStuffWorks "How VPNs Work"

Couple of things to note:
If your torrent client is maxing out your bandwidth then a VPN won't help. A network connection is only as fast as the slowest link in the chain, and if that's your internet connection, then you will see no benefits.

If however your torrent speeds are slow because of Traffic shaping (the policy of ISP's giving certain traffic, such as web browsing and VOIP priority over others, such as p2p) then a VPN will almost certainly help, as the connection is encrypted your ISP can't tell that you are torrenting.

There are many VPN providors out there, although it has to be said, the best one's aren't free. Two that I would recommend, that I personally have used in the past are Its Hidden and CyberGhost VPN, both have a free product with low usage caps and no speed guarantee's, but they can at least give you an idea if they will help. Full setup instructions are on the site:

Cyberghost (german site translated into english so may read a bit weirdly): Surf anonymously - Download now and use for free | CyberGhost VPN

I'm currently looking for a new web host provider and ran into Global Servers, this provider uses virtual servers for web and email hosting. My question is, if anyone here uses a service similar, is it easy to use? is it reliable(especially email) or should I stick with a normal web hosting company. My current problem is our office sends cad files which can be quite large, many providers limit email size and/or attachment sizes so my options have been limited. I have thought about using an ftp server but the people have been using email to send contracts and cad files and would resist change. So changing the way things are done is not an option at the moment. Any help or guidence would be appreciated, I've spent 6 straight hours today looking at providers and they all claim the same things...but do they...I don't have the time to find out that they don't. I need one that delivers on promises and is reliable.

And, Thanks for your time and advise!

Is there a way that either a W95 or W98SE (both fully upgraded) can be configured as a SERVER for the Virtual Private Network when connected direct to the Internet via a Cable Modem (no modem exists)?

I see that either W95 or W98 with a modem can be configured for a dial in as a SERVER with the upgrades of DUN.

Or, will this require a special application designed to act as the VPN SERVER?

I have three computers, one hardwired to ATT U-Verse and two wireless.  All run Windows 7.  I have five hosting companies with numerous websites on each, two are Virtural Private Servers.
Until today I was able to access all servers whether shared or VPS but for some reason one of the VPS servers I am unable to view any of the domains hosted there.
I can receive email from  those domains.  I can connect to the server via ftp.
Employees in other areas with ATT U-Verse or Comcast are able to see the domains.  I can view the domains using 4G wireless tablets or cell phones.  I cannot view the domains on any of the three computers using any browser including firefox, chrome or IE.  I get a timeout on tracert nameserver.com after it hits my IP address.
I confirmed the domains are active with the VPS host.  I also confirmed with ATT that there wasn't a line issue and powered down and reset the router several times.
I still cannot access any of the domains and the only other commonality I know of was that before doing anything this morning, I ran CCleaner on all three computers.  I have imported the deleted registry files in case there was something deleted that shouldn't have been but that is the only thing different from yesterday and prior.
At my wits end with this, no idea what else to try.  Any suggestions appreciated.

I just found a great little article that fully and comprehensively explains this technology, and also goes a little into its Linux implementation, although this is by no means a Linux only technology and has been used in Windows for some time.

Linux Based Virtual Private Networks

A VPN provides a private data network over public telecommunication infrastructures, such as the Internet. It provides both secure authentication and encryption. It creates a data tunnel between devices so that all data transmitted between the devices is secure, regardless of what programs the devices are running. There are three basic types of VPN solutions: telecommuter, router-torouter,and host-to-host.A tunnel is created between VPN hosts to ensure that all traffic between them is secure. The tunnel is created with a tunneling protocol. These protocols are responsible for encapsulating a data packet before a host transmits it.

After the data is encapsulated, it is sent over the Internet until it arrives at its destination. When it arrives, the capsule is removed and the destination host processes the data.IPSec is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) security protocol that is becoming a standard component of VPN tunneling protocols. As the name suggests, it was designed for IP, and it has gained wide industry support. IPSec provides secure authentication and encryption over a network by securing all packets at Layer 3?the network layer?of the Open System Interconnecti... Read more

This is the thing i wanted to clarify.we are trying to establish a vpn connection using 4 machines. 2 of them belong to the 15 series. i.e 192.168.15.something and the other 2 machines of 6 series 192.168.6. something .. now wat we are doing is connecting the 2 machines of the same series by a switch and same is the case for the other 2 machines.. now the 2 switches are connected by an uplink(port present on the switch).. trouble is this connection does not seem to be working.. so what i'd like to know is, are we doing it right? is there some other way of doing it? if yes, how? if no,what is missing in our part? and yes the switches are managable..
Plz Help me !!!

A:Virtual Private Network

tukkass, I'll try to help you.

If I understand you correctly, you have 4 computers and 2 switches. Each switch has 2 computers connected to it. You have connected the switches together but this network does not seem to be working for you.

I understand that you have an addressing scheme of 192.168.15.x and 192.168.6.x. Are these two separate networks or are they the same network (i.e. what subnet masks are you using?)

Just to clarify, the computers that are on the same switches can communicate with each other, but just not with the computers on the other switch?

I did not install one. Yet, I see these switches on:
Settings > Network and internet > VPN
Allow VPN connections over metered networks - on
Allow VPN to connect while Roaming. - on
I don't see any VPN information in the router.
Should those switches be off?

I've set up 8 computers in our office to use dial-up VPN in to our corporate office. 6 computer dial-up fine and can browse the shared directories. However the other 2 computer cannot. it is running Win98 OS. during the dialing up it will take longer then usual and then it will connect, then I went to start,run,\\server to browse the shared folder and it will prompt "no server found" cannot understand why?? any clues on resolving this issue. thanks!

A:Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Are they dialing straight into the Corporate LAN? IF so, why are any of you using VPN? Virtual Private networking is designed for when you dial into a normal local ISP, and then connect to your LAN "As If" you had dialed them directly.

If you have dialed them directly, make sure that in the Client for Microsoft Networks is set to connect to the Correct domain (ie correct spelling etc).

Hey there,
Just asking, do any ofyouknow how a VPN works? All I know is that you need a server/host that you can use your VPN to establish a secured connection to. But let's say I'm in the library and I want to use the VPN but my wireless network does not detect my ISP? Are there any other ways that a VPN can work other than connecting to the ISP? What if i use the VPN to connect to the IP add of my friend's computer? Would it work? Also, if I want to set up the VPN, how can other people join my network? Many thanks

HI everyone. I need to set up Virtual private network. It will include one server and two hosts. It is for small business purpose. Does anyone know, easy to set up and free software. Whole communication gonna take a place between windows machines.

A:Virtual Private Network software

For free, you're looking at using the built in Microsoft solution. I don't have much experience in using the Microsoft VPN implementation. One thing I would caution in going with this approach is the requirement to expose your Windows Server box to the Internet. Even though it would be limited to the specific VPN service ports, it's not best practice for a business to do this. Also, having your server do multiple duties such as being a VPN server can cause problems with performance.

I always prefer a dedicated appliance for VPN functions. There are multiple ways to do this from using PPTP, IPSec, or SSL VPN. Most of the industry has moved to using SSL VPNs as it provides the greatest flexibility. SSL VPNs can run in full network access mode with an installed client or can run over a web browser session where the SSL VPN appliance acts as the client's proxy into the network. There are other additional features such as doing end point security enforcement. I used to use IPSec VPNs to connect into my home network but have totally migrated over to SSL VPN.

In addition to having the setup to do a VPN, you also need to ensure you have the ability to have connect back to your office network via either domain name or IP address. This is the public facing part on the Internet. If you have a static IP from your ISP, you can do either where you would pay for a domain to be registered to your static IP. If you do not have a static IP from your ISP, you'll have ... Read more

Here are a hand-full of secure vpn providers (paid) which you can check out, i.e. it is not enough privacy to use Tor + proxy with your ISP unless you are covered by a secure tunnel (encrypted) over a vpn to get real privacy:

Definition: full anonymity = content obfuscation (encryption) + context obfuscation (who not revealed).

In no particular order:
1) StrongVPN.
2) SecureVPN.
3) ShadowVPN.
4) Internet Privacy.
5) Cryptohippie.
6) Secure Tunnel.

Hi, my girlfriends pc at her university blocks certain ports which are required by a website which she uses to watch tv online. Therefore as a work around, she bought a service which offered a VPN. This meant that she on her uni pc be connected to the uni internet, however then open a VPN connection which meant she would then be connected to this VPN and browse the internet through them whom do no block ports.

My question is could someone please advise me on how to do this, I have WIndows 7 and she has XP Pro. I tried setting up my pc as a host, allocating her a username and password and allowing incoming connections etc. however upon trying to get hers to connect to me, it just timed out and could not connect!

I would appreciate if someone could give me a step by step guide on how to set up my PC as the host and her PC as the client, in order for her to browse the internet using my internet, not her universities. I don't want remote desktop as dont want her having control and seing my desktop, just sharing my internet.

Many thanks in advance!

My PC router was hacked and 3 PCs have been infected - a Samsung S3510, Sony Viao PGC 7183, and Asys Notebook. I do not have control of them. I have sluggish control of my mouse. My iphone was on the same wifi network, I don't know if it is infected.

I first noticed the PCs running slowly and using up CPU, and lots of tcp/ip connections to remote ip addressess. Windows Update started downloading 70 updates at a time and I could not access the update settings.

I think I have a virtual network running on my PC, which should be standalone. Remote access is configured for a network, but I do not have one. When I change the settings to disable remote access the settings are changed back. My user profile settings change, as do the firewall settings. The user profiles are mine (Angel1), administrator and guest. The last two have not been activated.

Mu username is Angel1. I just noticed this scan has recorded my username as Angel - that is wrong.

The voice control program is activated for voice control of the desktop and I cannot delete or change the profile, which is set up under my user name. I found a log report of a reboot which loaded 62647.msi and an external user interface -- I don't know what that is. I have an Office2010 Starter program which is streamed and not installed, but I also have a virtual desktop which belongs to someone else.

I would very much appreciate your assistance. Thank you

I am trying to figure out a fix once and for all for online gaming with my freind. Basically I and another person at my house connect to the net via a router and we attempt to play a game online through game spy with another person over the net. Now that rarely work and we've tried so many things. Then I discovered Hamachi, and things seemed to work until "something" stopped working with that.

So here is my question can someone explain to me if this is possible. I want to make a Virtual Private Lan the same way Hamachi does it, except without Hamachi. I figure that VPN's made by free software may be less effective than say going out and purchasing some client like Cisco or something. I have zero clue on what exactly it would require so I just wanted to know what are the basics as far as setting up a VPN. I know my freind gets a static IP. Anyways, any help would be great I just want to learn what it is I would have to do.

Hey Guys,
New to this post but I am dealing with a pretty pissed off Partner at my law firm where I am IT and I cant seem to figure out this problem. Client is trying to connect to the VPN of our network through his home PC (which I might add has a firewall) . He has Windows 98 SE and when we tried to add Microsoft Virtual Private Adaptor ....it added and you could see it listed under the Network components screen of Network Neighborhood but there was no message to insert the Win98SE CD-Rom which I have grown accustomed to seeing when adding the adaptor nor is there any signs of activity of files being copied over. When trying to connect through a dial-up networking icon created for the VPN adaptor .....it says "Dialing...." which should not be with a VPN adaptor but rather we should see "Connecting...." and after awhile I get an error message for Error 038(hope I am right on that.....was at work till 3 AM trying to figure it out....my mind was pudding) . Any advice would be greatly appreciated....hopefully there is a patch or something for this. Thanks Norton

How did you "add" the VPN adapter? Did you go through Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Components>Select Communications (I believe) and scroll down to Microsoft Virtual Private Networking. Check the box and finish the wizard.

If you followed this procedure, check out Microsoft's Knowledge Base and try a search on Windows '98 SE and VPN. There's a number of possibilities and solutions.

A:How to create private exchange server?

If you're referring to Microsoft Exchange, that's a *very* expensive and complex package that runs only on server OS's like WS2008.

You're better off just setting Outlook to check for mail on a regular schedule.

Otherwise you're looking at setting up your own mail server. There are packages out there. Try looking up open source mail servers for Windows and it brings up quite a list.

I've got a friend that approached me earlier today with the idea of running his own private wow server. While I know this is feasible, though maybe not with the hardware he is running, we are at a disagreement on whether or not it is possible for him to forward ports specifically for his computer and leave the rest of his household electronics unaffected by the security lapse inherent in doing so. Is it possible to forward ports for certain computers on a network and keep them closed for others?

A:Question about port forwarding for a private wow server

Yes, When you forward a port in a router you have to specify the IP address of the PC that the port is forward to. This doesn't mean that once someone gets in through the WoW server port they cant try to access other things.

A:looking for good cheep Mini PC for (Private) game server hosting

It does not look that you could add any RAM. It is really a very low end entry PC. I would look for something more traditional. Look into the Sunday ads. Sometimes they have good deals. Here are a couple starting at $150.

Hi! I have a wired Ethernet connection between a PC and a Mac (is that the issue?), and when locally hosted servers (on PC) are hosted, I get issues, but mainly issues binding to ports. Is the issue that I am not using a router or something like that?

Hello all,

I have purchased a domain name through a registrar (enom central)
I currently have a hyper v lab set up at home with a domain controller/dns server
and am thinking of starting a web server on either Apache or IIS on a
different virtual machine. I want to point my domain name to my home web server.

My question is this: What do I do I have to do at my domain name registrar? I'm assuming
I have to point a type of dns record to my home server's public IP and maybe vice versa.

I have a static IP at home. Do I have to create some DNS records pointing from my
domain name registrar to my server at home using my PUBLIC ip address?
If possible please provide specifics on which records I should point to my home server
PUBLIC ip address and if any DNS changes need to be made within my domain. Also if
any records on my home domain (windows ad domain setup)

I seem to be able to find a lot of info on Apache and IIS but not a whole lot of info
on how your web domain name registrar relates to your own web server . I'm not really
interested on IIS or Apache specifics but more interested in the fundamentals of how
a domain name registrar (GoDaddy, or any other registrar/host) needs to be pointed to your
web server and vice versa.
I know a lot of people on forums tend to point to links or tell me to go to google but
I find it hard to learn that way. If anyone has the time to give me some insight that is much appreciated!

Sorry if this seems kind of specifc i... Read more

A:Solved: Domain name registrar pointed to home web server on private IP address behind

Create or edit the www host (A) record at your DNS registrar and point it to your public IP address. Its that simple. Then when people connect to www.yourdoamin.com it resovles you public IP therefore sends them to your home network. Don't forget to port forward port 80 on your router to your internal web server private IP address.

I recently started administering an existing network of a small company. There are two locations, about 100 miles apart. Each has a Win2000 server and about 12 workstations each, some XP Pro and some Win2000 Pro. Each server is connected to the internet using a DSL account, and the Win2000 servers are configured as routers. I want to be able to map one server to the other, and vice versa. I want users to be able to use a database on one server from the other location. I am not sure how exactly I would best be able to do this; do I need to set up a VPN, and if so, what exactly do I need to click on to enable incoming and outgoing communications, so that these servers can see eachother and talk? Can it be done with just the Win2000Server or do I actually need to buy routers or other software? I have messed around with the VPN connection wizard but can not get a connection established. RRAS is not somehting I am familiar with, so that is where I got stuck. I am pretty new to all of this so as much detailed help would be appreciated!
Thank you,

I'm trying to install ISA Server 2006 on a server 2003 virtual server and I keep getting errors during installation. I read the installation logs after it fails, and it states that it failed to delete a previous SQL Installation. Specifically a folder named MSSQL$MSFW.
This is the error message:
Deleting previous MSDE installation directory <C:\Program Files\microsoft sql server\MSSQL$MSFW>
Setup failed. Error returned: 0x643
MSDE Installation failed, hr=80070643
Performing rollback (uninstall) of firewall

I have also tried installing SQL, but it does not create that folder, and it still fails.
I googled this and other people have had this error and if they created that directory for ISA to delete, it worked. It did not for me though. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone find solutions?
Could it be that ISA will not install on a virtual server? Install notes say nothing and neither does Microsoft.

You would connect to an IP address. You could use dial-up, but it is not necessary.

I have no idea about other location where post this Q.
I'm using Private Character Editor (EUDCEDIT) to create own characters.
Main problem is in displaying them. It looks like not whole character is displayed, is double size of character width in monospace fonts and also there are in many fonts little spaces between, look at:
Here is one of own characters - it uses whole editing area - symbol of restore button:

in Notepad I have selected DejaVu Sans Mono font and it's displaying this:

So, you can see that top part of character (and not only this) is not displayed and between reverse characters is space, also character is 2? wide than normal character

This displays Segoe UI font in Notepad++

you can see that now are characters without spaces, but top area is not displayed too, but now looks better - like 1?1 size instead 2?1 (double-width)

Wordpad displays this at largest font size (72) Calibri:

again the same: top part of character is not displayed.

So, where I do mistake?

Also when I link characters with one of fonts it allows to save it with extension TTE, but it's not possible to use after Windows reinstall and my library of characters is larger and larger - this means at reinstall again manually copy & paste each character by EUDCEDIT... is possible to solve this too?

Thank you for all.

Windows 7 seems to be unable to effectively identify my VPN connection. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. I've installed OpenVPN 2.1RC20 (the latest release of OpenVPN). OpenVPN creates a virtual network connection using the "TAP-Win32 Adapter V9". When I connect to the VPN, I am not prompted to identify the network. This is apparently due to the fact that the network to which I'm connecting does not supply a default gateway.  That is, I'm connecting to a private network and I only need access to the private nodes on the network.  For example, here are the relevant lines in the routing table after connecting:
IPv4 Route Table
Active Routes:
Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 25 <-- this is my internet connection 30 <-- this is the VPN gateway On-link 286 On-link 286 On-link 286 30 <-- this is the remote private network

So as you can see, the default gateway applies to my internet connection only and not to... Read more

Hi! I'm trying to setup a VPN lab using windows virtual server 2005. I need to setup a 5 computer network. I'm trying to do this on 3 computers. I had virtual server setup on 2003 server enterprise, and was going to pit XP on it. The install part on the setup page for XP was greyed out. I looked up the documentation, and it said I could use XP as a host, but it wasn't listed in the guest OSs. So I went to a computer I have XP Pro on, installed IIS, then virtual server. When I go to the page to setup a virtual machine, it asks for credentials. I'm already logged in as the administrator, the only account on the computer. Well, I type in my user name and password, and it tells me I don't have permission to access the page. I created another administrator account, restarted the computer, went to the virtual server page, it asks for credentials, I type in the new administrator account, and get the same thing---I don't have permission. What is going on? The XP computer is a stand -alone---it's not a member of a domain. The lab calls for this computer to be a stand-alone. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
