Trouble with driver from windows update

Q: Trouble with driver from windows update

I am using Asus Notebook K46CA with windows 10 latest build. And windows 10 always mess up my Asus Gesture (except the original 1024 build)

I did try to fix this issue by downloading driver from asus and install it. But then Windows 10 Update forced installed "Asus driver..." and wiped out entirely my Asus Gesture even nothing left in the "Program File" folder.

So what should i do with this? I don't wanna disable windows update or reinstall driver again and again.
Please help, thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello nheolinkin, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you like, you should be able to hide the driver in Windows Update to prevent it from being available until a new version is available next.

Windows Updates - Hide or Show in Windows 10

After you have installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on Aug. 2nd, you will be able to prevent drivers from being available in Windows Update if you like.

Tonight I decided to try out Win 7 Ultimate RTM (32bit) on my Lenovo T43. I have had pretty much a flawless install save for one glitch that came while installing drivers from Windows Update.

I got a failure to install message on the Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family that the Updater was trying to install.

Here are the details:

Is there any way I can go back and redownload and try to reinstall this again. Right now when I click on the Update button it says there are no more drivers even though this one failed to install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Trouble with failed driver on Windows Update

Hi GhostRaider, welcome to the forums.

You might want to try going Here and try running Intel's 'Driver Update Utility' and see if that gets a better result than Windows Update.

   Note
I had the same issue when first install Windows 7 with my Intel 945 Express Chipset, the update would fail every single time

Unfortunately, Intel have not yet released a Windows 7 (32/64) driver for the 910GML or 915GM so Vista drivers in compatability mode may be your best bet of the 'Utility' does not work.

Hope this helps

I need help getting my printer to work with a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I had to re-install due to a CMOS error which I think was due to a dead battery. It still could be something else seeing as I have had other problems with this install (explained below). Anyway, the printer is an old Brother MFC 8300 (it has been a workhorse!). Previous times I have re-installed Windows there haven't been any problems with this printer. I simply install the driver from Windows Update (the driver is named "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" in the device manager). But this time the "Windows Update" installed the driver and says everything is working properly but when I go to "Devices and Printers" it doesn't show up under "Printers and Faxes". There is a listing for "USB Composite Device" under "Devices" that shows "Brother MFC8600/9650 Series" as a scanner. Not sure what that means.

I also tried to manually download the driver from "catalog.update.microsoft.com". I downloaded 2 different versions of the driver. One has a file size of 2.0 MB and the other has a files size of 2.3 MB. I ended up not installing either because I didn't know where the proper destination location was using the "Expand" command from the "Command Prompt" with "expand <CAB FILE NAME> -F:* <DESTINATION>". I think the file size for the "Windows Update" file ... Read more

That means your unit is a MultiFunction device and include Printer, Fax, Copier and Scanner. Sometimes the scanner part will be picked up as a separate device because Win7 has a built-in function for scanning.

I'm having trouble with a driver update that I hope someone can help me with.  When using Dell Command Update to update drivers on a Latitude E5440 with Windows 7, the bluetooth driver starts to install then the laptop restarts without notice.  It's a nice restart and goes through the shutdown process--not a crash!  I've tried updating the bluetooth driver manually but the it keeps appearing in Command Update as an available update.  This is a problem because our environment has Command Update set to run on a daily schedule so the Latitude E5440s are rebooting every night.  In the grand scheme of things this isn't a big deal, but it is generating complaints and the update program obviously isn't working correctly.  Any suggestions?

Hi, and thanks in advance...

Much of this is a repeat to other threads, until the graphic driver problem at the end...

(I also have an Ubuntu partition.)

I'd left my mp3 player plugged in overnight + an Asus Xonar DAC in a usb hub, when Windows wanted to do an update and conflict over drivers ensued. Strange, because I've selected for notification before updating. Also, have not been successful installing any new updates since the end of May. Was seemingly a common problem, I checked into it, too busy/lazy to pursue and succeed. This part is confusing...?

Woke up to blasting fans and unplugged everything peripheral. First, tried setting back to restore points prior to that night - twice. Could restart in Safe Mode and with networking. Then, could restart normally - but, shutdowns after 20 minutes or so.

Got crash logs, saw driver conflicts (not found) - saved.

Came here, read threads, did restart at Last Known Good Configuration. Restart - Nvidia Geforce driver not found. Went to Asus site, downloaded and installed driver (not lastest version, but last approved version and not much later than one that was installed).

It then went into a system cycled start/restart/etc. attempting to find driver, fix itself - forced to do shutdown to stop it.

Restarted this morning in Safe Mode, followed your instructions for posting. It's been running in safe mode for about 20 minutes now.

Hi,
I'm a little confused by one of my update options. I was under the impression that windows 7 was using wddm 1.1, and that the wddm 1.0 drivers have been available for quite some time. I checked and the driver I have is wddm 1.0, released 10/28/2008, version number 8.15.10.1590. So why am I being given the option to update to 'pre-release wddm 1.0'? I tried to get more information to check the version number, but I am just redirected to Winqual Help , which doesn't help me any.

I'd like to test out the wddm 1.1 drivers, and I've read that they're available for 7, but I don't think that these are those drivers, unless there is a typo in the driver title.

yes thats right....

wddm is just a driver model...
its up to the manufacture (here intel) to release wddm 1.1 driver
so until then (most likely they wont) they have to release a wddm 1.1

Windows Display Driver Model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
that should be a good read....

what they mean pre-release means that these drivers are beta drivers (there is a difference between pre-release drivers and pre-release wddm 1.1 drivers)

I am unable to update the Kernel-mode driver framework ver 1.11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB2685811). I get error: 80073712

Also, I am getting BSOD/stop errors in normal mode that say anything from:

I'm not sure if they are related.

When I run in safemode I do not get the BSOD. When in normal mode I will get BSOD consistently when running Norton Full System Scan, specifically when the full system scan gets to the Windows/system32 folder.

System specs:
Processor: Intel 2500K Core Duo Unleashed
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-p67A-UD3P
RAM: I have 4x4 Corsair Vengeance, only using 1 stick of 4GB corsair vengeance currently due to troubleshooting.

A:Unable to install Windows Update: Update Kernel-mode driver framework

I, again, apologize for double posting. I figure I should include the host of other issues I'm having. Maybe they can all be inter related.

-my DVD/RW drive, when connected to mother board in ANY SATA slot, causes the BIOS screen to freeze forever. I have disconnected the drive at this time while trouble shooting. I have tried known-good SATA cables so I know it's either the DVD/RW drive or perhaps a driver or mobo failure.

-I have run the memory diagnostic tool in windows. No issues were reported.

-I have NOT run memtest86 because I do not have a disk drive connected.

-I have had stop-errors (BSODS) such as PFN_list_corrupt, System_service_Exception, Memory_management, IRQ_not_less_or_Equal
All of these could be a result of bad RAM.

I have purchased new RAM as a means to fix my problems. It seemed to work for 2 weeks, then the stop errors returned.

Recently Windows updated my Intel HD Graphics 630 driver. A few days later the same driver was released on Dell's driver support page.
Is there any correlation between Windows Update and Dell's drivers? Who does update the drivers Microsoft themselves or Dell needs to release the driver to Microsoft?
As this is the first time when Windows updated the driver is this how the Intel HD Graphics drivers are to be kept up-to-date via Windows Update?

A:Windows Update vs Dell Update - Intel HD Graphics 530/630 Driver

ZINGAM,
Referring to the Intel HD graphics driver.
Windows gets code from Intel for the driver and they will implement it in the OS. Dell also gets code from Intel and will release it. Also, Intel will post the driver on their site to download. You can uninstall the Microsoft driver if you choose and install the Dell update driver.

Windows Update is not telling me I need or can update my Wireless networking, but Intel's Update Driver Utility says I should and is offering the update. How would you recommend I proceed?

A:Should I trust Intel's Driver Update utility or Windows Update?

G'day Rolo,

The difference between the two drivers is that the Windows one is digital signed/tested by Microsoft. I would say that unless the Intel one delivers more benefit than the Windows one, and everything works as expected, then there is no need to update.

You often see this with graphics card drivers too, for example.

Let me start off by saying that I am a new user here. Logged on for the first time just minutes ago, so hello to all. Now on to my question.

Installed XP Pro on a computer that I'm building for my wife. Biostar M7VIF board with an Athlon XP 2400+. Maxtor 40 gig hard disk. This is the second time I've installed in 2 days. The install goes flawlessly, all hardware works, and I am able to do ALL Windows updates. I figure I'll set up Media Player to access the music on our 'server', which is another XP box. So I run Media Player and the first thing I do is check for Media Player updates. That goes well too and tells me I need to reboot. OK. So I reboot. Immediatley Windows says the disk is corrupt so I let it do it's thing. It finds hundreds of corrupt files, bad sectors in the \windows and \windows\system32 folders. Takes a long time to do that and then it wants to 'verify free space'. It's doing that as I write. Says 30 percent complete. This looks like it will take 2-3 hours. This has happened twice now and I feel that it is related to the Media Player 10 update. This was my old computer and never really gave me any problems. Has anyone had similar issues? Thank you for you time.

I have a Dell 4550 running Windows XP. Whenever I try to run Windows Update I have the same problem: I connect ok to the Windows Update site then click on "Scan for updates" I get a response that "Windows Update is looking for available updates...0% complete" From that point on I can tell that I am having very little data transfered by the modem from my computer to the site and it never gets above "0% complete". After a while the frames all go white and empty. When I go to the Windows task manager it shows that "Windows Update is not responding. I have clicked on the Windows Update "Get Help and Support" icon and then requested "Technical Support for only Windows Update Service Issues". I filled out the required Profile and described the Problem. Then I click on the "Automatically Collect Information about my Computer" and fill in my contact info then click on "Submit" The Microsoft Online Assistance Support screen comes up and shows "Incident Submission Progress" After a few minutes it shows Collecting Info-Complete, Preparing Info-Complete At that point I can again see that my modem activity shows little or no communication back and forth. A few minutes later the "Sending Info column shows-Failed" and the Incident ID remains-Pending or Working, but never goes any further. I am at a real loss. Thanks for your help. Steve

So I did a google search and found someone else saying to make sure that Cryptographic Services was started. It wasn't so I set it to start, restarted the PC and tried to update again (cryptographic services did start up - I checked) but still get the error message. I've also tried this with my firewall and anti-virus switched off.

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Does anyone know whats going on here? I'm really getting confused.

Thanks heaps

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Does anyone know whats going on here? I'm really getting confused.

Thanks heaps

Hi Netrom,

Windows Update depends on BITS and Automatic Updates services being started. Check your Background Intelligent Transfer Sevice (BITS), and see if there is anything that lists with each for the Dependencies tab, and if so, startup that service as well.

When you are able to access the Windows Update website, then you will have the additional hurdle of validation of your system checked by MS, then you should be able to successfully update.

Hello -

I can't seem to get updates from Microsoft unless I first download Windows Genuine Advantage. I don't want WGA and I've already disabled it on my computer. At the update website I went to "options" and chose not to use their update software. They said that I could still get updates by either signing up for automatic updates (don't want them) or just going to their website.

I went back to their website later and tried again and it's still asking me to get WGA before I can get any other updates.

Is there some way I can keep current with all the updates but NOT get WGA?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell inspiron 1720 laptop with Vista 32 bit.

windows was bugging me about an update, with a 5 minute timer warning before an automatic restart. After clicking the "restart now" button, windows restarted and started downloading updates. Here is where I start having trouble. I get to the point where it says:

Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 44% Complete. Do not turn off your machine.

It has been like that since 10 a.m. and it is now 10 p.m. and no change. The little blue light that comes on when my hard drive is working comes on for a few seconds then turns off for a while. I keep needing to take it off of screen saver mode. (screen goes black until I move the mouse).

Im scared to turn off the computer, since bad things might happen. I am going to college in a couple weeks and need my computer to gain knowledge. PLEASE help. THanks.

Hi,
I see that in the Anniversary I can't no more AVOID the automatic search and download of drivers.

I want to STOP this, I want myself to choice my driver and update them.

I read that in "gpedit.msc" > "Windows Update" > "Do not include drivers with WU" > ENABLE

And I did, BUT, Windows Update still see drivers to update such Intel HD, Touchpad, etc.

Why?

On Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511, Build 10586, I've hidden troublesome Nvidia driver updates, using the wushowhide troubleshooter package for Windows 10.

Even with the updates hidden, the next time an update check/cycle is triggered, the Nvidia driver updates are detected and installed. Upon rebooting normally after the driver updates are installed, I see a Windows STOP error (blue screen of death) shortly after signing on Windows.

I can remove the driver updates by uninstalling the associated applications/packages through the Programs and Features control panel. I've also tried to first remove the display adapter in Device Manager, selecting the option to Delete the driver software for this device then removing the associated applications/packages in Programs and Features. As long as I do this before rebooting (after the driver updates are installed), I don't see STOP errors and I can then install an older Nvidia driver that works without STOP errors. If the driver update happens to slip in unnoticed, I can reboot in Safe Mode, sign on and proceed with driver application/package removal, then reboot normally.

The latest (but older) Nvidia driver published by Dell for this laptop apparently works fine (no STOP errors):

But the latest "compatible" Nvidia driver from Windows Update produces frustrating STOP errors, resulting in a largely unusable system:

I've also tried this method to blocking/hiding the Nvidia driver updates, but the result is the same: W... Read more

A:Can't hide NVIDIA driver update in Windows Update

I'm cautiously optimistic I found a reasonable workaround (requires the Pro edition of Windows), by using AppLocker to disallow executables signed by Nvidia to run. This way I can leave the Windows Update service enabled and don't need to constantly fight the Nvidia driver updates that I supposedly "hid" using the wushowhide troubleshooter. For anyone else in this or a similar predicament:

Right-click the Start button and click Run, or use the + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command dialog.

In the Open text box, type gpedit and click OK.

Expand Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Application Control Policies > AppLocker > Executable Rules. Right-click in the pane on the right and click Create New Rule... In my case, I created a Publisher rule with action Deny for Everyone, and used an Nvidia driver installer file as the reference file to capture the Publisher information.

Create exceptions as necessary. Since I want the older (already installed) Nvidia driver of my choice to function, I created a wildcard Path exception for the Nvidia Program Files folder.

Hope this is helpful...

Hello,

I have a Sony Vaio SVE141D11L with Window 7 that had been running beautifully until yesterday, when I restarted the computer to apply the Windows Updates that were installed on 05/15/2015. Upon restarting, Windows failed to load, and StartUp Repair began. StartUp Repair failed, and I tried F8 and Last Known Good Configuration, but it simply goes back to Startup Repair. With Advanced System Recovery Options, I have tried the following:

1. System Restore: Two dates are available, but both fail: "System Restore failed to extract the file (D:\Windows\Help\Windows\en-US\access.h1s) from the restore point. The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore."

2. Windows Memory Diagnostic: everything seems ok

3. Command Prompt:
A. Chkdsk: seemed to find no problem, but "failed to transfer logged messages..."
B. sfc, when /scannow is run on D:, "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some." I am unable to access the log from the command prompt.

I, by no means, consider myself knowledgeable about computers, but I am willing (and, hopefully, able) to try fixes, with instructions; therefore, any information or advice you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Hello there! Let me describe my problem: I have a HP Pavilion 11-n010sn x360 convertible Laptop. It had Windows 8.1 on it, and most of the updates failed to install, then I updated to Windows 10, still some of the updates had the same effects. Nevermind, here is what I did on it: I wanted to install on a new 75GB Partition Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.
I took the ISOs from an Windows ISO downloader from *cough*heidoc(dot)net*cough*. It ain't having any piracy, just a free downloader that gives you download links from Microsoft. Meh, I think I broke one rule there, nevermind, The issue is that I had an Load Driver error, because it couldn't find the CD/DVD Driver. If you look at the Device Specs, *caps* there is no *censored* driver for any disks */caps*.
I tried changing the USB device with the installer to somewhere else.
One big issue is my BIOS/UEFI. It has just some settings for Virtualization Tech., Secure Boot, and CSM. *caps* nothing else! */caps*. That makes me because I cannot change to boot from USB 3.0, and other stuff. BIOS Version: Insyde F.20 (or something like that). I do think, however, that I can download a driver, that is not compatible, or that has the most success rate, and to download it to the computer. Then, I could load it there, and the installation should be normal...

What do you think? Will I get the help to install Windows Seven on my Laptop?

Just create a usb 3.0 installer using Asus`s EZ Installer Program.

You need a working PC with a DVD rom, a windows 7 install DVD and I would use at least an 8 GB usb stick, you can always try a 4 GB stick.

Get the EZ Installer program from Asus support, it does all the work and so simple a Computer Technician could do it.

ASUS USA

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...uide_print.pdf

You have to disable Secure Boot, if you can`t ... well then.

The bios should be set to Legacy or Legacy & UEFI and the hard drive should be MBR, not GPT.

If you can`t do any of those things, then you may be installing Windows 8.1 again, then I`d upgrade to 10.

Good Luck

Hello all, I recently tried installing the latest updates from Microsoft and right afterwards my computer started acting strange. For instance, I couldn't seem to connect to the internet. I tried to do an uninstall one by one but, that looked like it was going to take a while so I rolled back to the day before with System Restore.
Right now I have re-downloaded the updates and I guess I'll try them one by one and see which one causes the problem. I was wondering if anyone else was having any trouble or is it just something with my computer only? I use Windows XP, Zone Alarm, AVG antivirus. Thanks,Toni.

Reinstalling from scratch. Having just started updates, done SP1. Windows Update Agent updates itself to 7.6.7600.256, then to 7.6.7600.320 and trouble starts.

Checking for updates brings nothing, no Internet traffic (I know this is supposed to be "normal", but bear with me).

System Tray icon tells me I've got pending updates, but clicking on the icon does not display them, only Checking for Updates.

I de-activate Avira anti-virus, and suddenly ~ 200 udpates are proposed. Including updates to .NET, but .NET is not on my machine.

I decide to select and install IE 11 only, to see if this works. Downloading stays at 0% for a very long time, so I stop downloading and shut down.

I start again, now downloading is at ~ 60% right away out of the blue. IE11 is installed, however a dozen other updates have installed alongside, which I did not ask for.

Also, they appear in Installed Updates but not in Update History.

I have been installing, wiping and re-installing Windows for dozens of times now over the last few weeks, without ever managing a properly finalized, working system. So before I examine each of those hundred updates again to see if they really have to be installed, then wait again a full day or more to see if Microsoft servers react online, I'd be glad to have your opinion.

I see a lot of people with similar complaints about 7.6.7600.320.

Thanks.
