MS Realtek driver agony - please help

Q: MS Realtek driver agony - please help

MS Update installed a Realtek driver that really does not agree with my system. I'm fine with the MS 5 High Def version.

Ever time I g to device manager and programs & features and delete it and spec the MS generic version I'm good for about a minute then the Realtek gets installed. Even after I delete the folder in programs. I am totally stumped here as this version MS is pushing out is really having problems and I cant make it go away.

I have gone to advanced settings and set it to prevent downloading ANY driver updates at all. It keeps coming back.

I've tried just about everything I can find on Google. I'd really appreciate some help on this. It began happening after this past Tuesdays update. I had other issues (now solved) with that update

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: MS Realtek driver agony - please help

The following steps worked for me...
First uninstall the faulty driver, but do not restart your machine until you do the following:

Type"Device Installation Settings" in your Windows search box. A result named "Change device installation settings" should show up.

?Choose No

Once that's done, you have to go into the Windows Update Settings and change it to "Notify Schedule a restart".

Now go ahead and do a restart.

At this point, the driver won't automatically install, but will be listed in Windows Update. Microsoft expects you to install it anyways. What you need to do is hide it from Windows Update. Download the "Show or hideupdates" troubleshooter package

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

That tool will then let you see what's in Windows update and you can then hide it from Windows update.

I installed the Realtek HD audio driver from the ASUS download site (P8Z68-V Pro MB) and all was well until I installed an MSI 560TI video card and let it install the Nvidia HD Audio drivers. The problem I have been chasing ever since was the Realtek HD Audio Manager popping up after the system exited extended sleep state (overnight). After much trial and tribulation and several Google Searches I concluded that the Realtek/ASUS HD Audio driver was conflicting with the Nvidia driver(s).

I did what suggested on one of the sites and that was to delete the Realtek HD Audio drivers and just let W7 install the default Microsoft drivers. Problem gone! Now I am curious, what did I give up and if I install the latest Realtek driver for W7 64-bit (v267) from the Realtek site will the Nvidia conflict return?

A:ASUS/Realtek, Latest Realtek versus default W7 Audio driver

Generally the Microsoft installed HD Audio Codec does not have all the features the motherboard vendor's sound drivers do. In most cases the actual driver is preferred and should be installed instead of the generic HD Audio Code drivers.

The NVIDIA driver is for the Video and the build in audio for HDMI audio. It should not be interferring with the PC's sound and in this case Realtek. I would uninstall the Microsoft drivers and reinstall the RealTek and see if you still have the problem. Generally a driver causes problems when exiting from sleep mode. Actually on "extended" sleep mode of overnight its really better to just shut down the system and then reboot in the morning. If you want it to be operational when you wake up, the BIOS should have an option for auto power on at whatever time you set.

I installed Windows 8 Enterprise today for testing purposes, I did it for my father too, and I was happy seeing, how well it works. So I did the same on my PC too, but I have one serious problem. I can't install the audio driver at all!

When I try to install it starts installing it, it copies the files of the control panel, and at the end I got error 0xE0000247.

I was "googleing" this error message, and everything I found was related to Windows XP SP3 or other Windows versions, so it wasn't helpful.
So here is the list I tried:

-run the installer in compatibility mode (the driver itself is marked as Windows 8 x64 compatible, but I gave it a try).

-try to install the driver via device manager, it didn't work, once my PC restarted. I must note, there are TWO High Definition Audio device in device manager, I guess, one of them is the videocard's HDMI driver. I installed ATI driver, -I expected, one of them will change, but both of them are still the same.

-I removed the drivers, reset computer, drivers installed back automatically.

-Removed the drivers, reset PC, start the installer. No error this time! But nothing happened. It was looking like a successful installation (compatibility mode was disabled on the installer), I could choose restart now or restart later, so it was looking good. But on taskbar, the speaker icon had that white cross in red circle mark. (I removed the two drivers, so that was because of that, but if the driver was really installed, it sho... Read more

If you can't find a driver that will work with that Foxconn motherboard you will have to install a separate PCI (or PCIeX1) sound card that is compatible.

was having issues with the sound drivers on my P.C.. I use a dual boot Windows 98 SE (C:\ drive)/ XP Pro (D:\drive) ,system.
Have had loads of virus issues poping up every now and then ,though have several softwares installed for A.V,Anti-Spyware ,host guards ,active monitors ,anti key loggers ,key stroke scramblers, etc... on my system, and the resident as well as online scanners give me a clean chit ,however do have viruses /keyloggers activity poping up every now and then, and a bunch of registry errors ,every time i reboot.
Some i have a feeling it is a infected driver behind all this. In 98SE(C:) ,my network adapters don't work (so cannot update my software/A.V. programs) other then that alls well. However in Windows XP my sound doesn't work ,had got an blue screen (system crashed thereafter ) :

It's been a year since I migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7 which I downloaded Realtek HD Audio Manager R2.70 and audio has been working fine except the only issue it didn't come with 'Stereo Mix' preventing capability to record sound direct from the soundcard. It took me 14 months to restore Stereo Mix as each time I was told to update audio drivers I would update HD Audio Manager so what is the difference between these two Realtek ?

I installed Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.72 last night and it restored Stereo Mix which now enables me to record system sound whilst using screen recorders.

Thanks

Realtek HD Audio Manager is a software driver used on Windows computers. It handles recording and playback of audio programs. It is required for many audio programs to operate.

While Realtek HD Audio Drivers is a tool that allows you to listen to audio in HD on your PC.

Stereo Mix is used to transfer audio that the PC is playing to recording software such as Audacity, so that you can record what you?re hearing.

When one upgrade their OS like in your case from XP to Win7 with the same motherboard and sound card it is always advised & recommended to download the latest soundcard driver, because the only thing that had changed was the operating system.

The advice is not to go to windows for it, but to go to the motherboard manufacturer, because it would be specialised for the system rather than ... Read more

After installing W8 on a Toshiba satellite laptop, all went well except Realtek AC97 won't install. Re-installing the driver didn't work. Windows reveals a code 10 and mentions the driver did not install correctly. Naturally there are no sound devices present with this occurrence. Plugging in an external USB sound device (creative sound blaster) works perfectly, just not as convenient as having the internal Realtek AC97 sound device working. BTW, this is not an HD sound driver, it's the regular Realtek driver. Tried a driver download from three additional sources w/o success.

Despite my efforts to maintain a clean and safe computer, something miserable has bitten me. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, but I know something unusual is going on.

Here are some signs and symptoms ...

Recently, after periods of unattended downloading, I would lose internet connectivity. The only way I could regain connectivity would be to reboot. Reboot would take what felt like forever. Sometimes there would be a windows dialogue box asking for login credentials for dial-up, which is odd considering I am not on dial. Recently, it has been discovered that all boot ups are agonizingly slow with apparent lengthy periods of inactivity (ie hard disk activity, or even a signal being sent to the monitor) On average, 4-5 minutes to boot up.

Today, while surfing, my AVG anti-virus went crazy picking up immediate virii from websites that were appearing out of know where. Bam Bam Bam Bam! A new virus infected webpage auto opens and is caught by AVG. There was also an unusual blue webpage titled windows critical update that could not be closed. I use Firefox, not IE, but if I recall, these websites may have been hosted by IE.

I have randomly been asked on occasion to shut down.

I have lost ability to access regedit (says the administrator has removed privledges, even in safe mode as the administrator). Even known workarounds commonly available on the internet have failed.

I am unable to run Adaware ... it says it's already running, when it's not ... that I ... Read more

Hello Peeps,    I just received T520 package today and my excitement suddenly turned to grief when I saw a bright glowing red dot on my screen. OMG... a dead pixel right out of the box! Did I just drop my hard earned grand that I have been saving for months on something that would bug me for the rest of the products life?    I quickly searched Lenovo's dead pixel policy and almost fainted when I found out the unit has to have at least 3 dead pixels to be considered for replacement noooooooo...wahhhh....boohohoho..sob       Why did they ship out a unit with dead pixel??? I'm pretty sure it was NOT missed by QA because it glows like a laser beam in the dark and a dead pixel would not develop while in transit!           I'm going to contact Lenovo post sales tomorrow and really hoping something can be done. I know some of you will consider this as another guy who got a dead pixel rant, but man, when someone spend this amount of cash, and I'm not rich, I would at least expect to receive a non-defective product. Oh Lordy, I should have trusted my instinct and buy something of this value in a brick and mortar store. Hoping for the best but this night would not be a pleasant one. Sigh,Jason

A:hard drive agony -- please help!!

I had a Western digital and a Maxtor HDD together in a system a few years ago. I can remember that they didn't both work together. Since then, I have sort of become brand loyal and only use Maxtor (Western digital and most others are just as good)-I don't mix hard drives. Most drives will work together but occasionally you get two that don't and you can avoid the possibility of this by just using one brand. If this is the case, then you might be able to put them both on different IDE channels long enough to transfer files.
If it isn't brand compatability, then check to see (in cmos) that your unrecognised drive is using the same access mode as it was before when it worked, probably LBA. If it is somehow set to a different mode, then what you described is exactly what happens.
In event of a corrupted partition, you may need to buy some partition salvaging software. One peice of software you can get for free usually on the Maxtor site is Maxblast, which runs on DR. DOS (one comes with each new boxed HDD too, if you still have it somewhere). If you download this HDD installation disc, and put it on a floppy it will give you a lot of great utilities to install and troubleshoot Maxtor hard drives.
One more thing to check is the cable. I have had ribbon cables that had one wire break somewhere and even though the drive continued to work, funny things would happen. You do have the proper 80 pin (not 40 pin) IDE cables, right?

Okay quick run up on how XP boots Boot.ini file loads windows. Most experienced users know the way to check a boot path is the msconfig option from run that is on every windows except win 2000. Start>Run>msconfig>boot.ini. You can change some boot options here and get rid of os's that were deleted with their boot path. But you know what not so on Vista, it uses a whole new system called bcdedit.exe I believe that boot.ini doesn't even see or acknowledge. So to bring you up to speed here's what happened:

I was on the release candidates with build 2600 I tried to install it to my 2nd spindled drive. A totally seperate physical drive I labeled as F:. It wouldn't work it would give the black screen of death with no blinking cursor, no nothing, just my monitor looking at me saying "I'm glowing amber on my led what are you going to do?". Obviously install Norton Partition Magic and make room for it on the main drive.

So now I stretch out room on my C: for two more partitions. Another Primary I label G: and an extended volume I label as H:. Guess what Vista RC1 build 2600 works great! I get a dual boot option after the motherboard logo goes away and it will default to Vista but I can also choose Vista...... for about 2 weeks then the same pill looking icon Windows says to install for protection starts causing problems, I think the thing was PC Chillin or something like that. I uninstall it, RC1 kind of works but inevitably something is ... Read more

Help. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 64bit (on my HP Vista 32 machine). Life is grand! My problems started when I tried to listen to the microphone input through my speakers. The front microphone inputs did not work so I downlaed the Realtek HD Audio Drivers (recently updated) from the realtek site. The inputs now work and I can record from the microphone through the Sound Recorder app in Accessories but can not hear the microphone through the speakers while I am recording. After searching the web I noticed a lot of chatter about setting things up in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. This app does not show up in my control panel. Does anyone know where I can get it (if I really need it). The Realtek site only has the driver download (not the manager). Am I missing something, am I confused, or both?

A client brought in his laptop a few days back saying it wouldn't start up anymore. I took a look..

When turning on the laptop, I am presented with a HP login screen requesting a fingerprint or password. This password is known, we type it in and get a windows error stating that the bootloader is corrupt.

I figured this would be easy enough - simply repair the bootloader. I booted off of the windows 8 disk and tried startup repair. Startup repair failed, because it could not access the drive the OS is installed on.

I decide to look up what the HP login screen post-bios is all about. It turns out HP Protect Tools was used to encrypt the partition the OS and my clients (important!) data is on. I later found out that messing with the bootloader on a drive encrypted with HP's software can mess things up further, so I'm glad in a way that the windows DVD repair options didn't function.

I searched online for ways to recover the data and found a way to perhaps rescue the files here:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/ftp1/pub/caps-softpaq/TCE&Q/
However, this method requires the backup encryption key (typcially saved to usb) to work.

Now here comes the fun stuff. The guy this laptop belongs was not aware that his drive was encrypted and didn't even know it was installed.. His laptop was originally installed at his companies main office, so we turned there to get the key file required to unlock the files on the drive. They don't have the backup encryption key. Brilliant.

Oh, did I mention tha... Read more

Hello,

I doubt this is a first thread about Realtek AC 97 driver problem when trying to apply it to Windows 7.
A day ago i've installed windows 7 and everything works really fine, expect sound ofcourse. Firstly i used windows updates to download right drivers (never trusted me self too much) and it did download realtek ac 97 thingies, BUT after installation it didn't work - no sound anyway.
So i started to surf in all mighty google and i found many posts in many different forums about people who can't make their computers with Windows 7 atleast to beep.
Well i don't really know what to do, my hand are bound, but i hope that i will find the right answer here.
Some things about my computer (please don't laugh to death):
OS-windows 7 home premium
1gb of ram
Nvidia geforce fx 5500 <--- ancient thing indeed
32 bit OS
and processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz

Oh and about sound card... well i checked some papper on my computer and it was said that sound card is integrated (sorry no idea what it is)

Well, waiting for offers what to do and sorry if i did any mistakes

p.s. I'm absolutely sure that i need simple realtek AC 97 codec or something like that, but not HD for sure. Anyway windows 7 doesn't support latest codecs from realtek.com

And about sound card which is integrated - i'm sure it's fine because tested it on windows xp two hours ago... (had to reinstall windows >.< )

A:Realtek AC 97 Driver :)

Jultas, welcome to the forums.

If it is the Realtek AC'97 that you need you an get it directly from Realtek,

Realtek

Might be a good idea to grab something like this,

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

and double check the motherboard specs to see if that is the one you need.

Recently upgraded my PC to Vista Home Premium...and a Gigabyte Motherboard. The drivers included RealrekAC97 Audio, which worked OK.
My problems started when I installed a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000. This has a built in microphone but nil movement when going through the installation procedure.
I removed the web cam driver then TRIED to removeAc97...but no joy. Get a message to the effect that it cannot be removed and error code 5001?
Furthermore the sound icon on the task bar has disapeared...what do I need to do to overcome my problems?
Live in the Uk and just found your web site.
Apologies if this is the incorrect procedure, but need some help URGENTLY!!
At this moment....got NO sound!!
Thanks in advance

A:Realtek AC'97 Driver

This is the meaning of the code:

ERROR_DEPENDENT_RESOURCE_EXISTS
5001 The operation cannot be completed because other resources are dependent on this resource.Click to expand...

These drivers are related to an motherboard integrated device. If you install a PCI sound card -- you can disable the device at the onboard level.

Otherwise there should be no reason to try to remove it.

If you have no sound -- I would try either reinstalling the drivers for the device -- or doing a "system restore" to a date prior to the problem or both.

Get the drivers for it from the motherboard vendor's site for the motherboard model.

Laptop is only about 1-1/2 yr old and so many problems. The main one is that now it won't connect to wi-fi most of the time. It was sporadic for a few months, so I had my ISP out to change the external modem/router and it worked lovely for about a month. Now, it's latest parlour trick is to just give up the ghost in the middle of anything I'm doing and not come back til I reboot the laptop. Sometimes that isn't even helpful so I got the little Chrome HP wifi fixer whatsit, (sorry, I am clearly NOT technically minded, am I?) and run it when the wi-fi goes out. It works a treat 98% of the time with the remaining 2% of the time no fault of its own...finally it gives me the message I suspected and that was I need a new driver/update. And a link! How simple! No, because I only got that message down to the fact that it couldn't get me onto wi-fi so the link obviously would not work. Now I've been looking for the driver download and/or patch but I get a lot of old information...some as far back as 2014. I would just like a link to the proper Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter update if someone could help me with that? I did find a download centre but it didn't exactly look like HP sanctioned territory so I didn't download. Many thanks for any help.

The problem is, that everytime that i restarting my PC, Windows 7 doesn't dectecting the driver, and so on i cant go on Web..

So i need to go to Device Manager and erase the driver from there, than Restart and the auto-update is reinstalling the driver again.

i had my network working without that driver, [I mean the normal Windows 7 ethernet driver without any updates, which was neccessery at the Auto-Updates, and it was working just fine!]

So my question is: there is any way to retrive the Defualt Windows 7 Ethernet driver?

Or otherwise, an a fix for this Driver for Windows 7.

P.S: That driver worked perfectly at Windows XP, and yes, i had visted REALTEK website and the problem still exist.

I bought an Inspiron 3668 with AE415 and other stuff in July.  Today (8/25/17), the audio suddenly stopped producing sound in the middle of using the computer.  After running some Microsoft built-in diagnostics, it produced sound again.  However, it changed to an “Internal HD audio” or something like that, the Realtek driver is missing from device manager, and the MaxxAudioPro settings got grayed out.
I went to the Dell Support site and found a “Realtek High Definition Audio Driver” update that is indicated with “Importance: Urgent” and “Last Updated: 08 Aug 2017”.  I installed it and now MaxxAudioPro allows me to modify the sound effects.
However, the MaxxAudioPro now has only “Internal Speakers” option and only a default preset, where it used have Dell devices option and various presets.  And the sound effects are not as good as before.
Can someone explain what is going on?  Why is the Realtek driver update urgent?  I hope Dell can publish explanations on what happened and how to get the various presets back.

Hello all.

I work at an organization where a lot of audio recording is done. We use Lenovo systems of varying types, There are several models of ThinkPad, ThinkStation and ThinkCentres in use. The issue I'm starting to run into is that the vast majority of these systems use Realtek drivers. The requirement here is that both playback and recording be set to 2 Channel 16bit 44100Hz but what I've started to see as new systems come in is that I have the ability to set that  for Playback but recording no longer allows me the ability to change it. It's set at 2 Channel 16bit 48000HZ and is grayed out. There's no way to choose another setting.

Some of the newer ThinkPad models we have (T460p and T470p) have drivers that allow the change. But our ThinkStation and ThinkCentre models do not. I can get around the ThinkStation issue by adding an audio card to it but I'd rather not have to do that. The ThinkCentres are harder because the models we have are either small form factors so I need low profile audio cards or the new compact models like the M900 Tiny so we can't add internal components.

The other issue that goes along with this is that for the ThinkStation and ThinkCentre models, We use the StereoMix option. I've only been able to find one sound card (Creative Audicy RX) that has the "Record What U Hear" ability and I can't find anything low profile for the smaller form factors.

In the past we got around this by actually using an older Realt... Read more

Installing the latest R2.82 Realtek HD audio driver does not let you change the sample rate to 44100 Hz? If that is the case then it could be chipset limitation. Most all modern computers with the Realtek chipset use Realtek's HD audio driver and I am only familiar with Realtek having only one HD audio driver.

In regards to Stereo Mix, I have not personally used the program but VB-Audio Virtual cable allows recording to other programs virtually.

What would be a better option for a Sound Driver? I used to have "Realtek High Definition Audio Codec" when I used Windows 7, but a few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 and just kept the generic "AMD High Definition Audio Device". Haven't really noticed that much of a difference. That's why I want your guy's opinion based on AMD vs. Realtek - (Quality, Performance, etc.)

Thanks!

A:Realtek or AMD Audio Driver

Realtek is for the onboard high definition audio codec built onto the motherboard. It is what you use when simply using a desktop or laptop.

AMD is the audio driver for HDMI, for when you have a tv attached to the computer or desktop. This driver is installed along with the video driver itself.

You should download/install the latest Realtek HD driver from their site.
