I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Random Blue Thin/Dotted Lines on My HP Laptop Screen

I was recently transfering files to my new laptop, and uninstalling programs on my old laptop when I suddenly got thin blue lines randomly on my old screen in dark or black areas (see images). It is not in the same location on the screen depending on what I am viewing.

I hooked an external monitor to my laptop and the image is perfect. Another odd thing is when I screen capture the bluelines and view the image file on another PC, they do not show.

Any ideas?

I have a Samsung NP350V5C-A02UK and it is a great laptop. However, recently I have noticed a thin black border around the screen. I couldn't get a good picture with my camera but it looks very similar to this picture http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19434351.aspx however, it is just a little thicker on my screen. I am not sure if it was there since I bought the laptop however, I am pretty sure it wasn't. Could any one please tell me how to fix this or if this is normal on all laptops.
Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:g50 thin horizontal lines flicker across screen

I believe you need a new screen.  It looks like bad connections on the contact tape.

Purchased an open box Y70 Touch from Best Buy last week. I'm getting occassional thin horizontal lines flickering across the screen. It's only intermittent and so far I'm not able to figure out what triggers it. Until this morning, I had only see it happen when plugged in, but it happened for about 30 seconds on battery a little while ago too.  I can return the computer to Best Buy for another week, but I really don't want to because I love this computer and got a great deal on it because it was an open box. Is there any possibility this is a software or driver issue that I can resolve myself?  The problem looks very similar to this: http://youtu.be/KtKeilqC6cw

A:Y70 thin horizontal lines flicker across screen

This is an issue with the connection, I must re-set my connection once every month because it slowly becomes off a bit.. here is a video you guys here can check out.. it has nothing to do with software, updates cannot fix this.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BqVuCKew1Eyou can thank me later lenovo for shining light on this topic, but when you do find the reason (which I am giving a fix for) I want you to tell them yourselves that we must re-seat the connection. This is a great example to back up my fix, Have you ever sent in your laptop for repair with this issue? did it come back "fixed" and then a few weeks later same symptoms appeared?Lenovo techs opened up your laptop and saw the connection was off a bit and so they re-seat it, but yet the connection never holds. Lenvovo needs to find a new clip to keep it in secure.. so thats what you should do lenovo hint [email protected] please follow the video provided and please report back here when its fixed , if you have any quesions just post here

Today, when I opened the lid of my laptop, the display had thin black lines running from top to bottom of the entire screen. It seems like a hardware issue to me with the connection of the display. If anyone has ever experienced this please let me know if there is a fix. The lines are more visible on a white background and become more visible if I look at the screen from the side. I have attached a photo, I can assure you that it is not just from the camera on my phone, but the actual laptop . I have also connected the laptop to an external monitor, the external monitor did not have lines across the screen.  Appreciate the help!

This problem has just occurred for me. I am only on a single screen 27" Mac, running Windows 10 on Bootcamp. I have had this computer form about 3 years. The problem does not exist on the Mac side of my computer - as always everything on the Mac side
runs spot on, its only over here on the Microsoft Windows side that I end up with issues. The only reason I use Microsoft Windows is to run Autodesk Inventor Professional for design and drawing. Inventor hasn't been written in Apple language as yet but I'd
wish they'd get their finger out and get it done. I dislike having to partition my drive and lose space because of a business biase. I also use the browser Edge to run tutorials on drawings. The cursor change only seems to occur after a period of non use -
initially I though it was after a timeout but I notice that the screen doesn't have to go to screen saver or blank-out for the change to occur, only a certain period of non-use maybe 5-10 minutes. It would be nice to see so attention paid to this issue after
sooo mannnnny years of existence. I see this forum issue goes back to 2009. I have contacted Microsoft recently once so far without charge and was told to delete the mouse driver and allow the automatic reinstall to occur. This still hasn't resolved the problem.
I see your above work around of enabling a mouse trail as one of my alternatives otherwise it's a restart to rectify. I will log another call to Microsoft help in an endeavour to apply more weight t... Read more

Just out of warranty(of course). Recently i noticed these moving bubbles(circles) that are gray and white translucent popping up on the left side of the screen and when they do mouse take on a life of its own and windows start opening and closing and all hec breaks loose like the laptop is possessed. then just as quickly it sometimes stops on its own- other times if i move the screen a bit forward or backward it stops.Other times thicker vertical bars show up along with the circular bubbles and again the laptop freaks out and windows open and close and shrink and enlarge without me even touching the mouse pad. All drivers are up to date-even bios and all win10 updates are fine as well. No new software added at the time or since the issue. It happens sometimes and not always. If i move the screen all the way back and put pressure on it the black likes will show up.Not always but sometimes. My feeling is this has something to do with the cable that connects the screen to the main part of the laptop but i just dont know how to get to it to maybe seat it better if it is the issue...if anyone has any ideas please do let me know.Thank you

A:Nvidia displaying thin black borders around my screen in desktop mode

Hey @Ulikedat,
Did you try this method:
Right-click an empty area of the desktop, and then click NVIDIA Control Panel .
In the View Selection window that opens, select Advanced Settings , and then click OK . The NVIDIA Control Panel opens.
In Selecting a Task on the left, under Video & Television , click Resize HDTV desktop . A window opens.
Ensure that Do not resize my desktop is selected. If necessary, click this option to select it.
Click Apply , and then click Yes to keep the change.
This completes the steps to disable under-scan.

Hi there....
if the screenshot wont duplicate what your seeing, its 100% monitor related.

the panel itself may be on the verge of failing (or at the very least loosing the pixels in question forever), is it always in the same spot..??

how long have you had the monitor, & what is the exact model..??

Hello, I had a very odd incident with my computer.

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Ripjaws Gskill 2x4GB
Rosewill Green Series 630W
Also have a Cooler Master 212 EVO for the CPU
R9 270x Gigabyte OC Edition

So I was playing a game called Gnomoria, which to my knowledge shouldn't be very taxing on a computer... When suddenly my screen went brown with vertical lines! I could still hear the music playing but it seemed my PC was frozen. I decided to then restart the computer. As windows booted up, I got the chime that signals you were moments away from logging only to get a screen that is black. I can move the cursor but thats its... nothing else works. I then restarted my computer again with the same problem. Finally, I restarted the computer again but in safe mode with networking and I got that to work. Beyond this point I am not very experienced when it comes to computers, though I did build this rig myself. I'm just wondering what went wrong, and how can I start to fix this problem. I was not overclocking at all, at temps right before the Brown Screen looked cool with the CPU at 40C and the GPU around 35-40C. I also posted this under graphics problems mostly because this issue probably is GPU related. I'm running on 3.12, or 3.9 drivers. Im not sure which one but I am running on older ones mainly because I was having Blue Screen issues about 2 months ago which was fixed thanks to this forum. I'm just not sure where to go from here, any help would be appreciated.

I've had my 4870 Dark Knight 1gig Video card for roughly 8 -9 months now. Been working flawlessly, running everything at highest settings.

However, my computer is crashing and displaying a black screen with either, red, green or white lines across the screen. Also the D601 LED on the Video card is now on.

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault

This error can occur randomly. Every 5 minutes or even once a week. Also a reformat does not help.

I've run multiple stress tests on the card and it never errors out. Also i've swapped every other part in my computer with spare parts. (CPU, RAM, Monitor) I'm at an crossroad here. Is my video card dying/faulty. Or is the power supply dying?

Hi Kerberg, Can you try the following troubleshooting steps to see if it's hardware/software issue: - Connect the notebook to an external monitor to see if the line appears on the external monitor. - Go into BIOS by tapping "F10" key during boot up and see if the line appears on your main display. If it doesn't occur in BIOS, the hardware is good. We will have to focus on video drivers- onboard and discrete card. If the line appears on the screen, please call 800-334-5144, say notebook and then zbook through the promot. Thank you, -Tenzin

I have a laptop with a touchscreen and almost a year after buying it I would get black places with vertical white stripes on the screen. Sometimes they took up the whole screen, sometimes they were only an inch thick. They always seemed to be changing in size quickly and were always the full length of the screen. A computer mechanic said it was a short in the screen. It happened especially when I tilted the screen.

I sent it in under warranty and they replaced the LCD and updated the BIOS. Less than a week later it is starting to do it again just a little but it seems like it will get worse.

I do a lot of MS office for school and my sister plays the Sims 3 and free tv sites (but she doesn't download anything).

Please let me know if you need anymore information and provide specific steps on how to get it because I haven't gotten this lingo down, yet! Thanks!

Out of nowhere, I now have 3 very thin horizontal white lines towards the top of my LCD monitor that go all the way across the screen. I have no idea where they came from but I just noticed them today. My monitor is 3 1/2 years old. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I might be able to fix it? I've tried restarting the computer, but they're still there.

Thanks for your help!

A:3 thin horizontal white lines out of nowhere on LCD monitor

Are the lines always there, even when you first turn on the computer, or does it only happen when you get into Windows (assuming your running Windows)?

What is the make and model of you PC and how old is it?
Have you ever opened up the PC and cleaned it out to get rid of dust?

My first thoughts would be that either the monitor or graphics card are on the way out, however check that the cables are all connected securely to be sure aswell.

Had IBM Thinkpad 600E fixed under warranty for faulty screen (which had ceased to work) - problem turned out to be faulty motherboard, and motherboard was replaced.
Since getting the laptop back, there is a thin (about 4mm) vertical grey band down the entire screen which obliterates whatever is behind it. This line is about a cm in from the left hand side.
the band comes on from start up...ie through the black POST screen, and if operating in DOS - the same. The correct drivers and refresh rates, etc were already loaded. OS is Win98SE.
Wondering if it could be caused by something simple like a loose cable?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm in Sydney & have to send the laptop back to Melbourne to be fixed....if it is something that has happened in transit, there's no point sending it back to have the same thing happen again. Any ideas much appreciated.

A:Thin grey vertical band on laptop screen

That could be a physical flaw in the screen, but hopefully it's just a loosened connection in the wiring involved.

It probably did happen in transit, since the repair techs would have noticed and called you if they saw it.

You could have a local tech try to check the wiring first, but you'll probably have to send it to Melbourne again. If so, use a bigger box and ship it wrapped in something big and soft like a down-filled winter coat or quilt. You might also want to insure the parcel for the round trip if your postal system or courier company offers the option.

So recently my computer has been experiencing some issues. Black horizontal lines have been showing up all over the screen. A:y50-70 Flickering Horizontal Lines & Black Screen

Hi Amrradwan ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Since the issue would be intermittent , next time that it would happen to best take a picture of the image and likewise try to connect it with an external monitor to check if the same issue would appear.
I would stilll recommend that you call in this issue for documentation purpose and further reference in the future , You may consult tech support for an action plan for this event .

The screen goes black for a few seconds when I'm using the computer, this happens a couple of times, then it goes black screen and then BSOD with a message saying "attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed. This happened a couple of times, now every time I reboot there are pink lines everywhere, even in safe mode. (It used to be fine in safe mode). Sometimes, instead of pink lines, it'll be a jumble of colours, making words eligible in the "safe mode option screen". Moving the mouse around seems to affect the distribution of the colours and sometimes even wipes them away. Usually when there are a lot of colours, I can't get past the windows screen and I have to manually turn my computer off as it freezes. I've tried the startup repair option, which doesn't work. Last known good configuration, System restore, which also doesn't work due to an error (however when I boot upit then gives me a message claiming it did work). I've tried cleaning the computer, installing the newest drivers for my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 8400 gs) . I used to get a message "Display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" (+something about a kernel). If i can think of more I'll add it. I think my CPU is an AMD Athlon x2 btw

I have just finished a pc build and everything went smoothly except for one thing: the display won't show the entire screen!

I have connected the computer to my full hd monitor via hdmi and Windows recognizes it as full hd, although the screen seems to be scaled down. There are black lines around the edge of the picture.

It like watching a movie filmed in 4:3 on a 16:9 tv although all the way around.

Is there any reason it could be doing this?

Hello all.
After being almost rudely ignored on two other forums about graphics cards, I decided to come back to you guys, even though you're not a website that specializes in graphics cards. Before I start, just to note - I've heard the problem I have can be caused by a hardware issue and not only Windows 7.

I changed my good ol' perfectly functioning 4850 for a 6970. The first issues cam when my computer started shutting off randomly, I have now taken care of this problem and upgraded my 500W Stock Supply to a CM 750W Bronze. Unfortunately, there is another issue which is driving me so mad, I'm ready to through my entire PC setup out the window. The card is giving me the vertical lines problem. This is a well known problem for some 4850's (even though my old 4850 had no such problem) and for almost all 5000 series users. The problem is rumored to be caused either by a bad memory clock, voltage or fan speed setting, but I've spent about two hours messing around with those (both overclocking and underclocking) and have only gotten things worse - the vertical lines seem to be gone, but now my computer crashes with the much more unpleasant BLACK SCREEN. You game and then - BLACK SCREEN! What I've noticed is that the audio sometimes continues normally, but Alt+F4-ing and Ctrl+Alt+Del-ing doesn't do anything.

Right now I have reset everything (dirvers, card, OC settings) to default and I have no idea what to do.

Just a note - if I can't gat this fi... Read more

Hi I bought my Lenovo Yoga 730-13 from Best Buy in May and the last 2-3 weeks black lines have been appearing across my screen and getting progressively worse. For the first time yesterday my screen was locked in certain areas and would fade to a black before jumping back to normal. I went into Lenovo Vantage and updated the system as suggested and ran a hardware scan which came back as normal. This doesn't happen in BIOS mode and even happened again today! I'm currently in a very aggressive graduate school program and use my laptop for research as well, please help!!!! https://kaltura.uwec.edu/media/t/1_k7wwk7l2

My other computer suddenly had black pixelated lines on the screen when I was using it, so I force shut it down and reboot it, it worked then, but after a while, the same thing happened, I couldn't get it to work, even by unplugging it and all that. Please help! It is a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon, I think its Windows 8 but I'm not sure, I don't have system specs as the thing will crash, I am now just putting it in a bag and praying that it'll self-fix, thanks in advance.

In random locations, at random times, my screen will flicker white lines across it with varying frequency. It because most frequent when at high RAM usage, just turned on, or charging at full battery for awhile. I tried sending it back once for repairs, but after a two month wait, it failed. I requested another repair, but tomorrow being my deadline, I believe I am unable to send it back once more. I attempted to contact warranty support, but after filling in my serial number thousands of times, the site believes I am possession of a Vibe series C phone. Is there any way I can fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

A:Lenovo y50-70 thin flashing horizontal white lines...

Hi One3 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
This solution may help from this article :

Update BIOS to V3.03 9ECN43WW (or later version). http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS100998
Update the Intel VGA driver.
Change the Panel Self-Refresh setting to ?disable? in the Intel HD Graphics control panel. (some versions do not have Panel Self-Refresh setting, skip this step.)

If the issue persists, hardware defective is highly detected. Please contact Lenovo local support center for hardware troubleshoot.
If the serial number would show mismatch from the website,  verify again from the label or use the auto detect feature but if that fails , provide a direct call to tech support . You may have the issue also documented that this behavior is an issue you noticed before warranty expires specially if the above solution did not work.
