Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

Q: Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

I recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.

I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again.

There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

You might try clicking "Apply" before "OK" in the same window that you entered the password. (I'm guessing that since you are using Windows 7, your email program is Windows Live Mail, not Vista's Windows Mail, although the procedure would be the same anyway.)

I need to give the complete backstory so you all can understand my situation.

I have used a fingerprint reader to log onto Windows Vista since I have have had the computer. Two days ago, the fingerprint reader stopped working (seemingly due to a software update that hadn't been done), so I was locked out of my computer. I have since forgotten the password that I had originally set. And what was great is that this was the admin account on the PC.

Anyway, I downloaded a program that reset the password for the admin account and I am now able to get in just fine. Ever since then, though I have not been able to get online at all. The computer recognizes the wireless networks, but only connects to them locally. I am wondering if it is something that I did with the password reset program that has disabled the internet somehow. I have since disabled User Account Control in effort to make the internet work (a tip I saw elsewhere on the internet).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Up until a week or so ago, I was having limited problems out of Microsoft Outlook 2003. Then out of the blue, every time my mail client checked for new messages (every 5 minutes), a network password prompt window would pop up. I have 3 mail accounts (2 business, 1 personal) coming into Outlook, so it has been a real pain to have to repeatedly log into them. I have the passwords saved in the setup but it no longer acknowledges that fact (no, my keyboard isn't set to all caps).

After even deleting all 3 accounts and re-entering them I was unsuccessful in fixing the problem, so I upgraded to Outlook 2007 and have inherited the same problem there as well. I tried switching to Eudora, and no dice. The problem has escalated...now even when I type in the passwords, I cannot send mail at all and I can't even receive mail on my personal account, so get this...I get 2 sets of email coming into Outlook, I have one coming in via forwards, and if I reply to anything or send new messages, I can't do it through Outlook. I have to go to my Verizon Yahoo page, log into my personal account there and send any outgoing messages. Nuts!

I tried doing a restore to earlier point on my machine, and it won't even let me restore as recent the past couple of days. I don't know what's happened. I've tried emailing with the firewall down even and it doesn't change the problem, tried everything I know to do. My antivirus is up-to-date, as are all my drivers and Mi... Read more

A:Solved: Mail Client Trouble - Network Password Popup Windows

I'm posting the solve on this problem because although there were no responses on the solution, I found this problem articulated on other forums as well. Going to the Microsoft website offered me practically no help (no offense, Microsoft, but not all of us have a masters degree in computer science, nor can we afford $250 to call you for help!)

After trying every possible fix out there simple enough for an intermediate computer to understand, I finally got in touch with onlinecomputerrepair.org. Now, while the cost to repair it was $89 (considerably cheaper than Microsoft tech support, which only walks you through a solution), the tech logged into my machine and laid with the problem until it was fixed. Well worth the cost considering the lost time this problem has cost me in productivity.

The tech told me that the problem was missing registry settings that tell programs where to look for settings. He went into my system and made some modifications I would have never known how to make, and now the problem is solved. For anyone who has something like this occur with their machine in the future, if you're not savvy enough to fix the problem yourself, I highly recommend these guys' work. Very professional, and if they can't fix it, you don't pay...that's about the best deal I know of next to free.

Im not really much of a computer wizzkid so pardon me if im not making much sense.
I went into tools>account>default mail account>servers tab>

My problem started then. Stupidly i changed my password thinking that i would be able to set it to open up and ask me for one when i tried to access my mail. My reaon for this was so others wouldnt be able to see my mail as i constantly forget to lock my laptop when im away from it.

Anyway i clicked apply and close. then i pressed send/recieve to checkif i had any new mail come in. A popup appeared asking for my username and password so i inouted the password that i had just changed. This is not working for me. And i do not know the old password to change back.

Any ideas what my problems are?

I just upgraded from Netscape 6 to Netscape 7. When I tried to access my Inbox I got this message: "Mail Server Password Required. Enter your password for [email protected]". I tried entering the password that I've always used for Netscape 6 and before. It came back and told me that Login Failed. This password is all lower case, so I know that's not the problem. I wasn't asked to set up a new password when I upgraded to Netscape 7, so I don't know why my old password wouldn't work. Also, My Netscape screen name is chrishaller. I use crisbastap as my username for my Yahoo and for Hotmail accounts. Why would it show up in my Netscape account? (and keep me from signing in!) Can you help me so I can even use my Netscape 7 Inbox? Thank you, Chris Haller

A:Netscape7 Mail server password

Sounds like Netscape 7 picked up the settings from the registry instead of looking for netscape 6.

Open Netscape and go to Edit Preference and see if you can change the users name there if not try the following.
Go to the Netscape folder, then the users folder and look for a file named prefs.js, open it with notebook and see if you can find the loggin name there and change it.

Also look in this file.

A:Resetting the Windows password on a NB250

Wait a moment. You are talking about BIOS and Windows User Account password.
I assume the BIOS password is known to you and you can boot up the notebook properly but you cannot login to Windows using Windows user account.

Is this correct?

In case you want to reset Windows password I recommend checking this Microsoft page:
[What to do if you forget your Windows password|http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows-vista/what-to-do-if-you-forget-your-windows-password]

_it says:_
+If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.+

I teach a few computer basics courses. I have two passwords set up for me. One is the admin and one is for my students' use. Currrently I am unable to login under the students' login identity. I can only login under my name (admin login). These computers are using Windows 2000. They used to be County computers and currently have no tech support. My skills are middling. The person who set them up has an admin password for all County computers which he used to setup both logins I currently use. I don't know this password nor would he give it to me. As I said, I no longer have tech support and would dearly love to be able to fix this problem myself. It has happened in the past and the tech would fix it when he was fixing other problems. Please help if you can. Thanks so much.

My neighour has a computer which a local technician setup for her. In doing so, the techie made himself the Administrator and set a password. My neigbour moved from that area some 6 months ago and no longer has contact with the technician, can't find his 'phone number and was never given the password.

Is there any way I can reset the Administrator password and give my neigbour full title and control over her own computer? I am trying to help her with the removal of spyware and I am beginning to think that I can't acheive complete success without administrator priviledges.

I know it's probably a bit naughty asking this but any help would be gratefully received.

My thanks, in advance.

A:Resetting Adminstrator Password

That's a tough one there. Do not think this forum supports that kind of information.
Now I suppose I am considered a local techie in my neighborhood, and if I set up a computer for someone other than myself I most definately would not set a password and I would make the user the admininstrator.

We can't help with passwords.

But create a boot CD to recover the files, or connect the hard drive to another machine.

Parted Magic disk partitoning tool (Bootable CD image)
If you prefer a bootable USB key, download and run Linux Live USB Creator. Choose the Parted Magic distro, and it will download it and automatically create a bootable USB key.

This CD (or key) contains many useful tools. You can partition, recover files, recover lost partitions, make disk images (by several different methods), transfer files between media, scan for viruses (It can serve as an Alternative Trusted Platform for search and elimination of rootkits and bootkits), examine and benchmark hardware, access the internet, and much more.

Hi, I hope this is the right place for this post, sorry if it's not.

OS = windows 7 home premium.

Windows is not recognising my password. I just reset my windows password using a windows password resetting program. The password was reset to no password. After resetting, the system loaded windows without problem and didn't ask for a password as expected.

I then went to "user accounts" and chose the "create a password for this account" option. I did this and it accepted my new password. The problem is now, when I restart the PC and try to log into windows using this new password, it tells me it's incorrect even though it is definately correct. I used a combination or uppper/lower case letters, numbers and symbols. I'm not sure if this has an effect.

There is only one account, which is the administrator account.

I had to reset the password to no password again using the software so I could login to windows.

Any suggestions as to why I can't log in?

BTW, the reason I reset the password in the first place is because I tried to change the existing password(which I setup when I installed windows) to a new one in the "user accounts" screen. This failed, it told me that the password was incorrect even though I used the same one I used to log on.

A:Password incorrect after resetting

I do not inow why you cant login. Once you begin to use third party sofware for tasks like resetting the password there is no way of knowing what changes it made.

That being said, lets talk about the future. Right now, I would make a new administrator account to be sure that you do not lose access in the future. The choice now is yours, continue to use the old account and have problems now and then logging in or begin to use the new account as your regular account.

Whatever you choose, I would always have another administrative account in the event of problems. Things can go wrong for many reasons.

In addition, I and many others suggest using a standard account for everyday activity and reserve use of the administrative account only for necessary activity. This measure is taken to increase security against virus and malware damage.

Take care and good luck.

There are no master password generators for ProBooks or EliteBooks. Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes' after 3 incorrect entries, the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0003 Or replace the BIOS chip.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIOS-PASSWORD-CHIP-UNLOCK-HP-ELITEBOOK-FOLIO-9470M-128MB-CHIP-/171251229440?...   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

The search utility is not working here.

I had my hard drive reformatted sometime ago by a third party and I believe they used a different admin password or just set up a new profile called :TEST" and used that for login privileges.

I want to eliminate the Welcome screen that requires that log in as test or Admin.

As I do not have the password, how can I reset so I can proceed and allow windows to bypass the welcome screen?

Oh I installed a Windows powertweak and it only froze the desktop on startup, so I needed to do a system restore.

At the present time we are unable to assist with anything to do with Passwords for anything, basically because of the fact that we can not determine the ownership of the computer and the fact that this is a security matter. Please read the Tech Support Guy rules below:

Ok, I know how to reset and bypass a Windows 7 password, but I need to recover it if possible.

Let me explain why; I'm working on a laptop that is not mine. It belonged to a young man who passed away suddenly about a month ago. The family would like me to recover as much data from this laptop as I can for sentimental value, because they want it reformatted so that the family can use it. However, the system has a password. In case this password might have been used for other things, I'd like to know what it is rather then bypass it. (There is a hint XKCD which I'm aware is a webcomic but no idea what the password could have been based on that alone).

Anyway, having the password would be nice rather than bypassing it. Any ideas on how I could pull this information from the system?

Worst case senario I'll just reset it, but I was hoping someone might have some idea of how I can recover it.

A:Recover login password, without resetting it.

Hello Arianna,

Sorry, but we cannot help you to recover a password for obvious reasons of potential abuse. All we can do is to help reset it, but you already know how.

I hope someone can help me. As I seem to be going round in circles!

I've bought a Seagate GoFlex Home Free agent network storage system.

I've managed to connect it up ok, but when I insert the cd to install the software for file transfer my laptop is asking me for an administrator password.

My user account has admin rights but it doesn't seem to accept my password as a user (admin) account.

I have looked at how to reset the admin account, and I seem to be led to possibly reinstalling the vista software from cd again. But I don't really know what effect this will have on my files (pictures/music/spreadsheets etc) and if this will lose them.

So I guess my question is - what is the best way to gain Administrator access if I don't know my password.

Please take a screen shot of that password prompt.
