Lenovo T560 not reading USB stick after booting ....

Q: Lenovo T560 not reading USB stick after booting ....

Hi all,I have several USB sticks that contain a bootable version of Ghost. It should be noted that these all work fine with other lenovo laptops (e.g. L450, T450) when booting/imaging from USB 3 ports- but although the T560 boots into ghost, when selecting the USB drive in the dropdown options from within ghost there are no files listed - even though I know for sure that the USB stick does contain files. Wondering if the newer chipset on the T560's is having an effect here with the USB 3 ports. Anyone else having issues booting from the T560 USB ports ? Cheers V

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I just got a new Lenovo T560 and when I try to scroll using the trackpoint + the middle mouse button-the scrolling appears to be working properly but in certain applications like excel and caseware, scrolling down to a certain point in the workbook will cause the equivalent of a page-up or page-down.  I thought maybe this was a sensitivity issue with the scrolling but it's not-I notice that in excel, it scrolls properly to the same point in the page every time, at which point it will jump down, far past where i was scrolling earlier.  I noticed there were a few solutions on here for what appears to be the same issue, but none of the solutions were specific to the T560. Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

I just recieved a new T560 with Intel HD520 graphics and a 40A20170US docking station. When trying to use my LG 25UM monitor (which has a native resolution of 2560x1080), that resolution isn't listed in the available resolutions drop box in Windows settings. I've tried a dual link DVI cable and a DP-DVI cable from the dock and a mini-DP-HDMI cable from the laptop port. I used the Intel HD Graphics control panel to put in a custom resolution of 2560x1080x60hz, but the utility gives an error "Exceeds available bandwidth". 2560x1080x30hz is functional, but choppy and annoying, and unacceptable since I specifically asked Lenovo sales if this combination would support my monitor. This is on a clean install of Win 10 enterprise, with the latest video and chipset drivers installed. Am I missing a tweak here?

Hi Since I received my new Thinkpad last Thursday, I have been experiencing these short beeps every once in a while which seem to occur randomly. I checked the beep codes for my model and the sound I hear doesn't appear in that list. I did some research and found that there is some kind of 'beep driver' which should be responsible for these kind of short sounds. I turned the sounds/driver of via RegEdit on Windows and used Commandprompt (with 'sc stop beep' and 'sc config beep start= disabled') and although the beep occurs less than before, it is still there. Is there anyone with a similar problem or experience who might know the answer to this problem? Thanks in advance.

Windows 10.  model 10a7-ct01ww carbon X1. The dolby digital plus turns itself off.  This started maybe two months ago?  I lost the Dolby back in September with another Windows update and got it back. I have noticed that if you have it in the foreground it seems to stay on better.  If you do anything with the laptop, it turns off.  Sometimes minimized it will hold being "on". I do have a OneLink Pro Dock.  The lenove solution center is no longer seeing the audio in the dock, i just noticed!  However "Speakers" shows both ports.  I use the port on the laptop to connect to speakers and hearing aid gear (realteck Hig Definition Audio).  I believe Windows has set the drivers to "Audio Endpoint"...? I have tried to re-install the Realtek drivers (which brings down the Dolby), which did not help. I need the Sound Virtualizer, Dialog Enhancer, and Volume leveler funtions as I am hard of hearing.  Sorry to post a new thread on the Dolby issue but there are so mnay hits.... Thanks for the suggestions, help and maybe a FIX  d

Hello All,

For some reason when I insert my USB memory stick I and try to read the contents I get a message telling me it is not formatted and would I like to do so? I copied the contents onto another computer (so it works on other PCs) then clicked OK to format it but it said it couldn't format the drive. The USB ports also gives me this message when I use my camera on the ports.

However, when I first insert the stick it looks like it has recognised it as the usual boxes pop up.

Many thanks

Best wishes

Hi. I have a question about a 256 Dimm I just installed. My machine is only recognizing an additional 128, not 256. I originally had 96. I have four Dimm slots available and the MB manual says they should accept 256 sticks, for a total max of 1024MB. The MB is an Asus P3B-F, with Pentium III, 450MHz. I did put in a PC133 stick instead of a PC100, but someone told me it should still work. Were they wrong? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you`ve got 512MB of ram?

I`m assuming that you have onboard shared graphics at 32MB. 256MB of ram - 32 MB shared graphics = 224Mb ram remaining.

Is it possible that the shop has taken some ram out?

If I were you, I`d contact the shop and ask them what they have done and why .

    Hi RS322767,
When did the issue start? Is the issue seen on the USB 3.0 port and the USB 2.0 ports on the left and right side? Are you using USB 2 or USB 3 devices? Does an external mouse work fine? Does an external HDD work fine? Are you able to read and write data to the USB drives? What is the size of the USB device you have connected and what is the capacity it is detecting? Does it detect the right capacity in Disk Management?

Well I'll start out by saying I have a laptop with 8.1 os. I also have a sony camera s-85 which I have been able to download the pictures to the pc for several years. Now all of a sudden the pc will ding a ling when the camera is plugged in, but I can't see it anymore in file explorer. So I got a little adapter that I can put the memory stick in then plug the adapter unto my USB port, but it does the same thing as plugging the camera in. I have 2 memory sticks and both do the same thing. If I plug the camera into a pc with XP os, it works as it should. It shows the pictures on the camera and I can download them as usual.

Apparently its not the s-85 camera but the memory stick, but what would have changed on the memory sticks?

    HI,
I have a 2002 Sony dsc-F707 digital camera. Latley it has trouble reading the memory stick. Most of the time when I turn it on it will tell me "no memory stick". Sometimes it will read it, most of the time not. I tried the memory stick with another camera and it works just fine. Then I tried a couple of other memory sticks with my camera and it displays the same problem. So I am assuming it is a camera and not a memory stick problem. Sometimes shaking the camera a little will make it read the stick. Bad connection somewhere??? Any suggestions what I could try or do I have to sent it to Sony?????

I've been trying to boot windows from a USB stick for several weeks now and I finally got it to work. There is a lot of information on how to INSTALL windows from a bootable USB stick...WinToFlash is a great program...but little info on installing Win 7 ONTO a USB drive and then booting from it. The methods that I did find didn't seem to work for me. I always got the BSOD...usually the dreaded "Unmountable_boot_volume" 0000000ED error. I used a mixture of the various methods to finally get it to work. First, I created a 16GB VHD on my main HD, an 80GB Intel SSD. I then used GImagex GImageX - AutoItScript to install an image from a .wim I had created from an install of Windows 7 complete with all updates (yes, even service pack 1, that had killed previous attempts at a bootability), Office and some other progams. I then used EasyBCD EasyBCD - Take control of your boot loader | NeoSmart Technologies to add the VHD to my boot list. Next, I booted to the VHD and installed PWBoot [project] PWBoot <Latest version: 3.0.2> - Project forge - reboot.pro and used the "Patch existing system" option. I then restarted my system, booted normally (not to the VHD), and copied the .vhd file to my freshly formatted 32GB USB stick (Patriot Rage XT). After the VHD was copied, I went back to EasyBCD and used the BCD deployment tab and created bootable external media and installed the win7 bootloader to the MBR. Next, I selected the newly created BCD store usi... Read more

For whatever reason my PC will only boot at single channel with one 2GB stick of RAM. Originally I had two 2GB sticks but was having issues getting the system to boot and having random system freezing. I assumed the issue was a bad stick so I went all out and purchased four 4GB sticks to equal 16GB all together. But even using one single stick of 4GB doesn't work. I feel certain that it's a power issue but I just don't know where to go from here.

Thanks in advance, hopefully that all made some kind of sense.

That depends if the ISO is actually contained within the RAR archives. The methods for putting them on a USB stick vary depending on the OS to be used.

You'll find most USB sticks far too small in capacity to run the later OSes though, and given the fact they need drivers for specific hardware as part of the install process on each individual machine its unlikely you'll get them to work reliably, if at all.

Always include version of Windows in your posts.
You probably need to press F12 faster than you've been doing. The PC may be booting so fast that you miss the "window" in which to press F12. So power on or reboot and IMMEDIATELY press F12.

My 300-01IBY won't boot anymore after bios update today. Unsually I don't update the bios unless there is an issue. In this case, I have to update because I ran into issue updating WIndows 10. According to the support web page for 300-01IBY, I have to apply the bios update to resolve the issue. I downloaded o27kt10aus.exe and followed the instructions verbatimly. The stick now no longer boot and it is a $160 brick. It goes into an endless loop of LED flashing with no signal to the display. I called technical support and I was told that my warranty has expired and nothing can be done. I thought I can trust the drivers/updates provided on Lenovo's offical website but now I have to think twice for Lenovo's quality. It is too late for me to find out that other users in this forum reported bios update issue. I wish Lenovo will take on the responsibility to issue a recall with this particular issue. I used to be a very happy Lenovo customer until today.

But there is certain things i dont wish to lose, music, photos and any saved documents etc. Does anyone know if there is a way of doing this? The only thing i can think of is to buy a external hardrive and transfer to documents i dont wish to lose onto it, then reboot, then move the files. probably a stupid i idea but as i said a bit pants with computers. thanks tom

A:Re booting my computer problem. thanks for reading

    Hi Tom, welcome to TSF.
I assume you mean reinstall rather that reboot. Am I correct? Reinstalling is the last resort when nothing else works. If you only have the one drive, then buying an external or second drive is a good idea for lots of reasons and it is always a good idea to have a copy of all your important files.
The first thing you should do (after backing up your data) is to try cleaning up your machine using something like Cleanup from Steven Gould.. In the Options tab of Cleanup select Empty Recycle Bin, delete prefetch files and Cleanup! All users. Under the temporary files tab make sure that Scan drives for file matching is unchecked. Try that and see if it speeds your machine up.

First off, how in the world did my warrenty expire in September 2016 when I bought the thing in January!! I started having issues a week ago with random crashes. I guessed it was from overheating, but it always seamed to run warm. I attempted to reset Windows, because that's the first thing any tech support person will tell you to do; and it never completed the reset process. Why? Probably because it shuts off after a few minutes of being on. As of now, if I try to boot it, the Lenovo splash screen plays, then it shuts off again. If I get any errors (now) it tells me Windows failed to start, and must reboot. But it just turns itself off, instead of rebooting. And the cycle repeats. So, how do I go about opening a Warrenty ticket if you say the item expired long before I even bought the thing from the store?? And when I'm on your website and go to "Correct Warrenty Expiration Issues", I get Error Code: c5cf42042019561e10e66b34f119cbd1???

One advantage of the Lenovo Stick 300 over (at least the low end) Intel Compute Sticks, is that the Lenovo Stick 300 (at least the 90F20001UK model) is that it has TPM chip.  That means that it supports transparent SSD encryption/decryption in Windows 10 using BitLocker. As things stand right now, you have to upgrade your copy of Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Professional.  Once you do that, you can turn on BitLocker and encrypt your SSD.  I did that and it works fine! This doesn't protect against viruses or someone discovring your WIndows password, but it does protect against someone getting your Stick, booting another OS from the USB slot, and then recovering your data.

https://communities.intel.com/thread/93643 Read the whole thread, and you'll understand what's happening. Turning off write cache for the internal SSD is the key. You can boot from a USB stick formatted with the pre-autumn update build W10 install package from Microsoft. The link to MS's original download page is still live, I found it through searching I seem to remember. Some sticks work, some do not. This is true of all PCs due to weird spec changes that happened. If the install program detects the stick, it will work. After installing, turn off write cache to the SSD before updating to the latest version of Windows 10. Problem solved. Do NOT turn write cache back on for the SSD or your system will become unstable.

    Hi everyone

I'm a bit of a novice but I decided to upgrade my computer and would love some advice please. I am currently running windows Vista 32 with an Hd and decided to upgrade to a SSD with windows 8 professional 64GB using a clean install.

I have watched a few videos which suggest you just plug in your new Ssd, unplug the HD and boot windows from cd/DVD and install onto SSD. I tried this several times and every time it did not recognize the boot disk. If I plug my original HD in and reboot using the disk- it is able to recognize it and initiates the installation procedure. I am hoping to replace this HD so not sure how to get this to work.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You could get a USB hard drive enclosure similar to one in the link below, clone the Vista on it using Macrium Reflect or similar programs, install the SSD in the laptop/PC then do a custom install of Win 8.
Hot USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Disk Case 2.5" SATA Black Support up to 500 GB on eBay!
Macrium Reflect Free - CNET Download.com
    Clean Install - Windows 8
If Macrium reflect doesn't work, you could try Arconis(trial version but limited functions ) or something else.

Anyone experience this?  I plan on using this primarily with a printer (no display) and want it to remain on at all times.  I've gone in to try and mess with power settings but it seems I only have a setting for display, so I checked it to make sure it is always on (display).  This seems to keep the stick from falling asleep, which is exactly what I want.   Still messing around with it, I figured I would turn the display off over night and turn back on when I came in to see if the stick was still on.  When I turned the monitor on , I got a "no source signal" message.  While the blue light of the device was on, it seemed that it may have gone to sleep or shut down by itself.  I tried to type on the keyboard to wake it up but nothing.   I basically had to restart it. Anybody know if this is possible?  I need the thing to always be awake without a monitor.  Thanks. I'm running the Windows 10 stick with the updated BIOS

Ah...I realized that setting "0" minutes as the parameter for sleep or hibernation equates to never. I think that may have fixed the sleep issues. Will update.

I got a Lenovo X201 on Friday and on Saturday I set about backing up the recovery partition onto a usb stick. I inserted an 8gb usb stick and let it do it's thing.  After plugging the stick into the machine and trying to boot from it to test it works I got a message saying No Windows, or in other word the usb stick was not bootable. After reading some forum messages one suggestion was the stick had to be formatted in fat32.  Fortunately I didn't just format it and try again as when I went back into the recovery partition backup software it gave me a rude message saying you have done a backup once so you are not allowed to do it again. To me this seems quite pointless as I cannot see for what purpose I would want to use the Lenovo recovery partition other than on my computer but I assume it is something to do with a licensing restriction. In any event after quite a substantial bit of my reading, of which there was nothing really on point, I stumbled across this thread and the message by the_solutor: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X100e-Make-bootable-usb-stick-of-recovery-CD/t... It correctly gave me the idea of using the Windows 7 bootable usb creator http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool to create a bootable usb, delete all files from it apart from the couple of boot files in the root then copy over to it the files the Lenovo partition backup program put on my other usb stick.  After doing this I am t... I recently purchased a Stick 300 and have it plugged into a Sony TV. I can not get the audio to work. The Stick does not show the Sony TV (speakers) or any HDMI input as a playback option. Is there a driver update that needs to be done? When I go to Display in Control Panel, it does identify the display as Sony TV, but no luck for audio. Another issue I have noticed is that the Stick will also not detect a MicroSD card when inserted in it. I hope I did not get a dud, and this can be resolved by updates. Please help.

I asked this over in the Linux section of the forum, but didn't get any response, so I thought I might ask here too.  I'm having trouble finding whether the Stick 300 supports suspend to RAM or suspend to DISK in Linux. Can anyone confirm it does / doesn't work, along with what distribution & version of Linux and kernel version you are running?  I really appreciate it!

Does it support the Mirco SDHC cards?

A:Lenovo Stick 300 Micro SD card type supported

I have a 64 GB micro SDXC card in mine. This works fine with the original exFAT formatting. The older SDHC cards should also work.
