Q: ThinkPad Yoga 20CD0038MC - Disconnecting Ethernet ...

Hello, a year ago I bough Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 20CD0038MC with Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and also OneLink Pro Dock. Because Yoga has't own Ethernet adapter I connected cable to OneLink Pro Dock. Unfortunatelly it disconnect cable (and switch to WiFI) many times during each day. Everytime it takes only second and than cable was normally connected, but this destroyed every work which depends on stable connection (e.g. streamed webinars). Sometimes disconnection occurs once per day, sometimes 10x per day. So I bough also original Lenovo USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter and connect it directly to USB port on Yoga - the same problem. So I decided that OneLink Pro Dock itself is fine and problem has to be in Yoga. Approx. 2 months ago, disconnection time starts growing and sometimes I spend whole day only on WiFi. Two weeks ago, after last diconnection Ethernet don't get back and now I'm on WiFi only over two weeks. I checked - Ethernet port on OneLink Pro Dock - both LEDs working and shows some traffic- Devices in Windows 8.1 - there is only wireless adapter (and bluetooth adapter), but in LENOVO support is not any new drivers for Ethernet, only one adding support of wake-on-lan. I installed it anyway. - when I turn off WiFi adapter, I'm without connection - LAN doesn't return- I found new drivers for OneLink Pro Dock, but when I attempt to install it, get error message that system doesn't find any OneLInk Dock :-/ (it shows me it on one of two monitors what I have connected to dock)- I take my Yoga together with OneLink Dock to my home and connect it to different network - problem shows also here Can somebody help me? I'm starting ot be out of ideas.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello! This has been happening for the past few weeks, and the only solution I've found so far is restarting the laptop. When I disconnect from my monitors and take my laptop with me to meetings (which is several times per day), I lose my physical mouse (on the laptop, not an additional mouse). The pad just doesn't respond. I am forced to use the touch screen to do everything. I want to use my mouse, and I used to be able to. My little red button mouse also doesn't work. I've already confirmed that I'm still in Desktop mode, not in Tablet mode. Using Windows 10 Pro

When I am at work I plug my Thinkpad Yoga into the Onelink Pro to connect all the peripherals, inlcuding mouse, keyboard, printer, and two monitors. The Onelink Pro also has my ethernet connection to the office network. I have had this setup for 2 1/2 years and it has always worked great. This morning, however, when I connected to the Onelink everything worked normally except the ethernet network connection. I could not connect to my office network, and I got messages like "Cannot find a valid network"; so I ran the Lenovo diagnostics. It told me there was an invalid IP configuration. I have unplugged and reset both the Onelink and the computer; but nothing had fixed the problem. I have also checked for the latest drivers, and everything seems to be up to date. Does anyone have any suggestions to get me reconnected to my ethernet network, or is my Onelink starting to go bad?

My questions are... Is this a gigabit Ethernet connection?Does this laptop come with the mini to full size adapter? How do I order the adapter? Is there any big advantage to using this mini Ethernet connector over a common USB to Ethernet adapter?* * I realize it won't require using a USB port and apparently the "Wireless Auto Disconnection" feature only works with this connector, but that's not a very big advantage IMHO.  DetailsAccording to this manual... https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1yoga_3rd_sg_v2_en.pdf ...on page 6 number 9 in the list of laptop ports is a "Mini Ethernet connector".  Page 2 of the same manual says that some models come with a "ThinkPad Ethernet Extension adapter".  It doesn't say if the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen is one of them.  Notice the name of the PDF file is "x1yoga_3rd_sg_v2_en.pdf" so I'm pretty sure this is the correct document, it's just kind of generic apparently and applies to multiple X1 Yoga generations.  I didn't find any answers in the user guide either... https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_x1yoga_ug_en.pdf The only adapter I could find is the Lenovo 4X90F84315 ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable, but is it compatible with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen?  The Lenovo site has this cable but only the X1 Carbon is mentioned in it's description.  Staple's sells the same adapter and it also only mentioned the X1 Carbon.&n... A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen Mini Ethernet Connector

Hello and welcome,
Just going on what I read:
From the base spec:
"Native Intel Ethernet Connection WGI219-LM (vPro) via optional ThinkPad Ethernet Extension Cable"
"Data Rate Per Port 1 Gbps"
From the sales site:
"Ethernet Extension Connector (Dongle for Native Ethernet sold separately)"
And from Accessory Smart Find:
"...X1 Yoga 3rd Generation... 20LE, 20LF"
The Google turns up multiple sources for 4X90F84315 including Lenovo and Amazon.
As to advantages?  Depends on your use case.  As you said, doesn't burn a USB port.  Doesn't require a special driver - although that's probably not much of an issue for USB adpters.  Maybe with non-Windows OS-en.  Can do PXE boot if that's important.
As I said, I'm going on what I read in the above.  Please confirm before purchasing.

My Onelink Plus dock behaves very strangely, I cannot use the Ethernet port reliably:I bought recently a Thinkpad Yoga 460 ? after my previous Thinkpad ? and an Onelink plus dock. After docking I have to disconnect and reconnect all cables from/to the dock to make the Ethernet work. After that it works great for a period, but sometimes it loses the connection. I have to unplug again all the cables and reconnect them to make it work. To the dock I attached the following: USB keyboard, mouse, external drive, DisplayPort cable (with DP to DVI adapter) and the Ethernet cable. I am using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (ver. 1607) from a clean install. Every device in the Device Manager seems to be OK, even the ThinkPad OneLink Plus Dock Ethernet.I have the latest software and firmware.Lenovo Companion cannot find new updatesI have updated the BIOS to ver 1.46.I have also updated the Onelink plus dock firmware (Version: 2.33.000). Any idea? This way the dock is useless.

All i do is Deactivate, then Activate the Local area network and boom, it works again..

I want this to stop, i downgraded from Windows 7 to XP to see if it was a W7 problem, but happens the same on XP (In W7 i had to reboot the PC completely so it would turn on again, here on XP just Deactivate -> Activate)..

My problem has been going on roughly since i aquired the laptop but im sure that it isn't a hardware fault as it is both the ethernet and wireless adapter having problems.

My ethernet will disconnect usually once or twice a day usually an hour after the laptop has been turned on. After that it won't disconnect again.
The wireless internet will disconnect more often and it is random as to when it will happen.

The disconnection happens like this,
Unable to browse the web using any internet browser like firefox or internet explorer
Any online game i play kicks me from the server to a login screen (if the game has one)
However, the laptop still shows a stable connection to the ethernet/wireless. It will show the yellow triangle with an exclamation mark for a second then show a stabe connection.

Laptop Specs;

Windows 7 64-bit
AMD Athlon II Dual-core M320 2.1 GHz
Wireless Adapter - Atheros AR9285
Ethernet Adapter - Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

So far i have tried;

Updating all devices,
Uninstalled the devices and re-installed,
Unistalled Anti-virus software,
Disabled Firewalls,
Changing Channels on the router,
Update Router firmware,
Reseting the router.

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hey there, after being on the phone with Lenovo representatives in Germany for a couple of times with no succesful solution to my problem, I wondered whether someone in this forum might have an answer to my P50 problem. Model:Thinkpad P50 20EN0008. The problem:At the beginning of August, my P50 would not boot, no vitality signs at all. I removed the battery, tried to push the power button in various sequences ( 60 seconds long ; in alternating time steps, and so on) but nothing helped. So I decided to call Lenovo tech support who said that probably my mainboard needs to be swapped. Next day a Lenovo representative showed up with a new mainboard. However, before replacing the mainboard he checked all RAM sticks and figured out one was broken, being the reason for the dead P50. Thus, he removed the RAM stick and the machine started working again. The P50 continued working for 2 days but eventually showed the same symptoms. I called tech support again and after 2 weeks a new technician showed up, now replacing the whole mainboard. Then, the P50 worked for 2 days but eventually would not boot at all again. Being curious what might be the bug, I thought what both operations had in common and voila, after disconnecting the coin cell battery and the main battery for 3 minutes, the Laptop started again. So I called tech support again, now with the recommendation of updating my bios to the latest version. Having done this, my P50 still does not boot without removin... Read more

It looks like one of endless BIOS issues. What BIOS version to you have ? Try to disable Fast Startup in Windows which may be a temporary workaround. Considering the repair history I would return it. There are many basic functionality issues with P series Lenovo is not able to solve because they seem to already lost production competence of workstation machines. They are too focused on cheap consumer laptops and its resulting typical reliability.

* My internet keeps disconnecting and saying I need an Ethernet cable when im using a wireless adapter**

I recently bought a new PC (using Windows 8) and ever since I have started it up, it has been having issues. I am using a wireless adapter that connects to my modem which works just fine (the adapter is also new), but for some reason it keeps disconnecting me. It loses all its bars and comes up with the ' * 'symbol, then comes back with full bars showing its connected. It also says that I need to plug an ethernet cable onto the computer, or a network cable isnt plugged in properly.

I have tried a lot of things and nothing is working. I dont need updates whatsoever. If you could help me on this I would appreciate it because it has become very frustrating.

Hi everyone.

I have a problem with my internet connection. First, I've tried a PCI Wi-Fi card and a repeater and nothing change.

My computer have a problem with the internet connection. When I play games like Counter-Strike, I'm spiking and I have some rollback every 5s. Here's a picture of my internet connection in the task manager:

As you can see, I'm spiking alot. Sometimes, my PC disconnect from the router (even when it's wired).

What I tried:
- Recovery
- Flush DNS
- Renew IP
- Uninstall/Install network drivers and adapter
- Uninstall/Install general drivers

And... nothing worked, except one thing:
Fix network connection issues - Windows Help

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.

It's working for like 30 minutes and then I'm spiking and lagging again. I suppose it's a DNS/IP problem. I need to do it again every time I want to play 30 minutes. Anyone have a idea?

PS: When I'm browsing on chrome, I don't see the spike effects, only when I play or skype.

I am hhaving difficulty finding an acceptable scaling mix between resolution, system scaling, and edge scaling. At 1080p, 125%, 125%, os navigation is mostly fine, but edge text is way too large. At 1080p, 125%, 100%, edge text is way too small. At all combinations text is inflated (but crisp) in certain elements while fuzzy in others. What scaling combinations work best for you? I am considering returning this to Best Buy and upgrading to a Pro 4 / Book, or even a Mac. The scaling is ruining an otherwise great experience.

Hi guys,I have a laptop which is a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E431 model running on Window 10 Pro OS. It is a Core i3-3110M CPU @2.40GHz 8GB RAM 64-bit OS. My issue is :WLAN / WiFi keeps going ON and OFF every now and then. The WiFi once connected keeps connecting and disconnecting every minute and it sometimes take forever to reconnect back. I will need to right-click on the WiFi Symbol at the bottom right and click on 'Troubleshoot problems' to recover from this issue. Once recovered, it disconnects again. Some Observations :The issue could be because of the conflict between the Bluetooth drivers and the WiFi drivers. If Bluetooth is disabled then the WiFi works correctly. There will be no problems regarding the WiFi getting disconnected. And it has been atleast a year since I bought this laptop and it has been showing this problem since 4 - 5 months back. Please let me know if there is a work around for this. I am using a lenovo yoga 14. When I connect to my wifi network at home the internet often randomly turns off. It doesn't only disconnect my laptop, it kicks all of the other devices off the network as well. I have no viruses and the laptop seemed to be doing this from when I originally got it. I updated my drivers for the wifi and have tried various other fixes but nothing seems to work. I have two staff members with different Yoga models, but with the same pen issue. Say, for instance, OneNote is open. The pen doesn't draw or write, but it can select and still be recognized. When I try using an old stylus from an HP Elitebook, it works TOTALLY fine - even the button on the pen functions properly. This suddenly started after months of the Lenovo pens working fine. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but it can't be as the HP pen works.... I'm thinking it's the pen itself just getting worn down? It looks okay though but may be just a little loose... Any help / direction would be greatly appreciated!

Disclosure:  I received these laptops from Lenovo as part of their advocacy program, so huge thanks to the folks over at Lenovo. I don't receive compensation for my review, and as always, all opinions are my own.
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is first modern ThinkPad that I've ever owned.  I?ve been using Lenovo?s Ideapad lineup for a very long time, and while I?ve used ThinkPads in the past, the X1 Yoga will be my first personal ThinkPad that I own.  So how does it stack up to the Yoga 910?  Let?s find out! I have the i7 UHD model of the Yoga 910 and the i5 FHD model of the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.  I tried out the latest Yoga 920, but I haven?t tried the latest X1 Yoga yet? hopefully, I will!
Hardware & Design
Even though both laptops carry ?yoga? in their name, the hardware behind them is vastly different.  The ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the classic ThinkPad black design, which is made of a carbon-fiber hybrid for the top cover and a magnesium-PPS hybrid for the bottom cover.  The Yoga 910 has a similar design from the Lenovo?s Yoga lineup, with an aluminum build throughout.
The ThinkPad only comes in two colors: classic black and silver; whereas the Yoga has a whole suite of colors to choose from, such as silver, copper, bronze, and even a few exclusive designs, such as the Vibe designs for the Yoga 920 and the Star Wars themed designs for the Yoga 910.

I've seen several notes here and in other forums about bluetooth disconnects on the Y2P.  I had this issue with a MS Sculpt Comfort mouse (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/sculpt-comfort-mouse).   I tried removing the pre-installed bluetooth driver and allowing Windows to find me one.  Same problem.  Then I downloaded the driver from Lenovo (currently bt136w8164.exe).   After reinstalling this manually the mouse was recognized immediately and I haven't had an issue since. FYI.  Hope this helps.

Hi,Is anyone facing issue with the wifi connection? The wifi on yoga 700 keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. When the wifi tries to reconnect, it's showing no internet access. I have other laptops connected to the same router and there are no connection issues with my other laptops, tablets, or phones. I've even tried to a different router (at a different location) and I still have the same issue. I contacted Lenovo customer service and they sent me link to download the wifi driver which I have done (uninstall existing driver and reinstall the drive that was provided by Lenovo CS) however, it would connect to the wifi and work fine for a while then the wifi disconncets and tries to reconnect over and over again (same issue). Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

While testing out my new 720 I found that while running on battery I will have anything connected to the USB C/lightning port disconnect every once in a while and then almost immediately reconnect. I've had this happen with an external SSD and a small multi-port dock.  So far, this problem only happens with that one port.  If I use the USB 3 ports, I haven't had this happen. I'm fully up to date driver-wise. I have also tried turning off the power settings for all the USB hubs. I've monitored the windows events and see the following confirmation of a problem but I believe this to be a symptom and not the actual problem. Warning        5/7/2017 1:53:19 PM        Ntfs (Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs)        140        NoneWarning        5/7/2017 12:02:35 PM        Ntfs (Microsoft-Windows-Ntfs)        140        NoneThe system failed to flush data to the transaction log. I have recently bought a Thinkpad Yoga 460 with Thinkpad Pen Pro. I leave it in the laptop slot for charging for more than a day and it gives me only a few minutes of usage. As per the user guide, it should be 80% charge in 15 seconds and 100% after 5 minutes. But it runs out of charge very soon. It shows me the low battery level indicator as soon as I use it on the screen. First day of usage (appox 4 days ago) it gave me about 30 - 45 minutes of continuous. But after that not more than 5 minutes. Please let me know if this is an issue with the Pen or Laptop charging port. Is there any way I can troubleshoot it?Please also let me know the average usage time for the pen, if you are continuously using it.

Welcome to the forums.
I do not have that kind of pen, but I think is the one that has some "bronce contacts" at the top of the pen. I had read some other post about it, just in case check that "contacts" to make sure they are touching with the charger when you put the pen into it's holder. Sometimes the contacts may move.

Hi everybody,I do have a problem with my new portabe USB3.0 interface drive, as it keeps connecting and instantly disconnecting all the time. I did already try to disable the energy-saving options for all USB-Ports, so that the computer is not allowed to disconnect the drive due to energy-saving.I did already try the device on another computer, where it works perfect without any drivers or something like that. The Device itself is plug and play, and there shouldnīt be an additional software needed. This is why I donīt get any support from the manufacturer. It seems to me, as if the USB Port does not supply enough energy to the external drive to keep the connection steady. The Lenovo Yoga Home 900 itself recognizes the device namely, so there shouldnīt be any problem of copatibility. My brother told me to look for an USB driver for the lenovo yoga home 900 to try to fix this issue, but i couldnīt find anything appropriate. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this issue?Kind regardsHelmut

Just curious, why is the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga I7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, FHD about $1,000 more than the similarly equipped commercial Lenovo 910?
Is it the ThinkPad brand name? The eraser nubbin? The 2 combined?
Just curious.
I've got a friend who needs a new laptop. She likes the touch/fold aspect of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Yoga. Do you all think she would be happy with the commercial Yoga 910?
Any real reason to get the new plain FHD ThinkPad X1 Yoga instead of the similarly equipped commercial Yoga available at Best Buy besides spending an extra $1000 for the ThinkPad brand name?
I've owned 6 various ThinkPads since 2011 FWIW. I get it, they're cream of the crop. But I kinda got sticker shock when I just priced out a plain FHD (and we need nothing more) X1 Yoga. About  $2,800, wow!
Opinions and advice -- no spam please (thank you!) -- welcome.
Best to everyone...

A:Why is the ThinkPad X1 Yoga $1,000 more than a similar Yoga 910?

@Jelks, The biggest difference I see between the X1 Yoga (2nd) and the Yoga 910 is active pen support which seems to be missing from the 910. You could use a capacitive stylus, but expect fingertip resolution, not pinpoint, and no pressure-sensitivity. Fewer USB ports: no HDMI or MicroSD; no Thunderbolt. No TPM module, if you need to store encrypted creditials, e.g., for BitLocker. Not sure about battery life; they claim up to 9 hours of local video for the 910 vs. up to 15 of MobileMark for the X1. Not an apple-to-apple comparison. You're not going to get the (soon to be patched, at least for now) security hole that is Intel's vPro management tech. You may not get Windows 10 Pro, possibly just Home (but you could always give Microsoft the money to upgrade if you need BitLocker or Remote Access). You're not going to get all the "mil-spec" design and testing etc, but if it's a personal machine, you're probably going to avoid abusing it. As you suggest, the "wave" keyboard -- including the trackpoint "eraser nubbin" -- is definitely going to be more expensive on the ThinkPad than the plain Yoga keyboard. I used two generations of ThinkPads (T61p and W520), but about 3 years ago I switched to a Dell XPS 13. A year or so ago, I ordered a X1 Yoga 1st gen for my wife and she likes it very much, so I am pretty familiar with the design and capabilities. TLDR: I think most people would be happy with the 910 vs. X1 unless they want the active pen. Als... I have an IBM ThinkPad A21m. In the back, where the I/O panel is there is an ethernet RJ45 connector and a regular modem connector. I have been able to connect using the modem to internet in the past. However the ethernet has never worked. I was going through the books that came with the PC and apparently the modem and ethernet are on a combo card.

In the packet there is also a card, not installed in th PC. It is a Xircom card. I did a search online for the serial number and FRU number and this is where it took me:
http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4PBMN7.html?doctype=Product information

I know little to nothing about laptop hardware and installation. I tried removing all the screws off the laptop but still could not remove the cover. Do I need to install this card? SHouldnt a laptop, espcially an IBm professional series one come with ethernet enabled? Am I missing something?

I would love any ideas on this one. I am actually fixing as a favor for someone. Thanks in advance.

Here is the home page for that specific adapter:

I think I have to install the adapter in the PC but where and how? Do I have to connect any wires to it afterwards?
