Smart Card Access via Web application

Q: Smart Card Access via Web application

Does Microsoft have a set of DLL or a way to access smart cards from a web page. Currently we have to use Java appelet in order to get at the smart card and be able to authenticate a real digital signature. I would think with how highly used smart
cards are that Microsoft would have come out with a solution to this. talking to another developer, they think or have heard that Windows 10 will have the ability to pass through smart card information to a web application. Wanting to know if this
is correct or not or if it has to be a application made desktop and not web. thank you and hopefully someone can help us in the community with access to smart cards in web applications.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a Smart Card Reader or Cac Reader to digitally sign fields on a form in Access 2007?

A:Access 2007/ Smart Card

I seem to remember you using a Bar code reader with Access, so providing that you know how to decipher the signal from the card reader it should be possible.

Thought it would be cool to do, since some software allows you to encrypt data and use a smart card to unlock data. Tried finding out if it was possible to turn an SD card into a smart card, but couldn't find anything. That makes me think there isn't a way, but thought I would ask anyways. Seems like there would be some software to do this, but I didn't find anything.

Ok I have found another problem. I had my computer worked on and he re-installed windows xp. Before it was worked on I was able to insert my memory card from my digital camera ( I don't have the plug for the camera to upload pictures that way) and Nero always popped up. I think it was drive E. Now nothing is happening when I insert the memory card. I am able to use my external hard drive and it comes up as drive E. I believe my laptop has a built in smart card, but it is not showing.

A:Smart card

I believe you may have to reinstall the drivers.

First look in Device Manager with your camera plugged in
and see if there are any yellow exclamation symbols there.

May only be necessary to uninstall and reboot.

I have to log off now, hope someone else can help if OP replies.

Go to SUPPORT (above) and enter your MT-M (like 20BW-Z0CJUS as an example) but without spaces or hyphens in the search box.  It should give a list of features in "machine info".

Alternatively enter your MT-M here:  Parts Lookup for a very detailed bill of materials.

This isn't really a driver issue but more of a some help with local policy / permissions (I think).

I have just put a new Windows 7 PC on our domain and I am having a few troubles getting the Gemalto Smart card to work as a user. This card has the Gemplus esigner which lets us authenticate to connect back to our bank for secure banking.

Basically this PC is in a domain which locks the desktop and programs down so a user cannot access Programs etc. We then place an RDP icon in the start menu and they access their programs via RDP into a terminal server. Only a few programs are run locally on the PC.

When we install the Gemalto software on an XP machine we set permissions on the installation folder for everyone to have read / write access along with the registry key and this works fine an allows users to be able to use this on the local PC.

With Win7 I have tried this but I keep getting "Cannot fine the certificate store" error ? however this works as administrator (local PC) which leads me to a permissions thing or a domain setting.

I can insert the smart card and manually import the certificate which reports sucessfull yet the same error occurs.

Has anyone else has this issue or can anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers

A:Gemalto Smart Card

Your issue may be a product of a feature called UAC (User Account Control) settings. They can be adjusted locally in the control panel under user accounts. However in a domain environment the UAC settings may be dictated by a Group Policy setting. Something perhaps to try would be to have the domain administrator log on to the Win 7 machine with his credentials and see if you still have the problem with the Certifcate, if that's successful than he will probably know how to fix it on the local machine. Not sure this will help, but I thought I would throw it out there and perhaps someone else may have another idea.

Hi all,

I've installed Windows 7, and had a problem using smart cards with the new OS.

I installed the drivers for my smart card reader (USB) from the manufacturer's website, and they installed fine.
Then when I go to plug in my reader, it says "Device driver software was not successfully installed" and it then says that the reader is correctly installed, but "Smart Card X No Driver found".

So I tried communicating with the reader and inserted card, and the communications is fine. So my only real issue is that every time i plug in my reader, it prompts me with "Not successfully installed" despite the fact that I've correctly installed the drivers.

Any ideas? Thanks.

on 3 August our laptop was infected following clicking on a fake adobe flash player update. It started with the HDD virus giving fake warnings of hdd failure, then blacking out desktop etc. This was removed and restored but since then google searches are slow and redirect when clicked. I have tried various fixes over the last week - Antimalwarebytes has detected zeroaccess trojans and deleted and quarantined. I cannot run TDSSkiller from desktop, only USB, and this finds nothing. (I have tried renaming file and file ext). Combofix has been run. each time a fix is run, we get one successful, fast google search, then the next and all subsequent searches slowdown and redirect. We also get random audio ads playing even when a browser window is not open. All google searches take exactly 30 seconds to appear with search results. Searches also redirect from firefox. all antivirus programs have been deleted except for MSE now.

The GMER program would only run in safe mode with networking and most of the boxes were grayed out, leaving only services, registry and files and C checked. In the end it gave a message like "no system modification detected" and the log file had nothing in it. I will try this again.

We do not have a windows disk but the notebook has a D drive partition for recovery??, and it does not have a cd drive as it is an ultraportable.

thank you for any help you can provide.

1. I see ComboFix has been run on the computer, how is the computer behaving since running it, do the symptoms remain? Please post the ComboFix log, it can be located at C:\combofix.txt

2. Please look in Programs and Features and see if there is an entry called "Babylon toolbar", if so, please remove it.

3. Please run the following:
Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool.
When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
Click Scan
Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

Hello

We're running Windows 7 on an hp Pavilion slimline s-51010 in a professional (real estate) environment with a Smart Card reader attached. We use it with a program called SentriLock to modify smart cards that unlock SentriLock locks.

We had problems with employees installing unauthorized software. To curb that, we changed the default user accounts to be "Standard users." That way they would have to enter a password to run an installer. However, we discovered that this was easily bypassed by inserting a smart card because the computer asks for either an Administrator password or a smart card. We've kept the password safe and it isn't easy to just guess it.

What can we do?

I was hunting some pictures and put my SM (Lexar) card into the card reader on my computer's tower to check for images. Finding none, I removed it and put it back in camera. Later, I went to take some pictures with the camera (Olympus D-370) and on the screen was a button "format" with a "cancel" button underneath that. I selected "cancel" and pressed the OK button and got the message "Card Error." The card was inserted correctly. I turned the camera off and then back on and got the same display. This time I chose "format" and pressed OK. Got the "card error" message again. I put the card back into my computer's card reader and it showed all the normal things it usually does.
Is my card bad or has the camera gone kaput? Batteries are fresh. Camera has been resting in its case; hasn't been dropped or anything. The card is normal in appearance and was handled properly.

Hello msdunkel,
i dont have anything to do with smart cards but i found this on another site, i dont know if it will solve your problem but give it a go, would you please post your results, good luck.

Something new with Vista... It operates a lot like Windows Server 2003/2008. To get the card reader going you should go to the "Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Services" and scroll down to "Smart Card". Make sure that it is started. Set it to "Automatic" in it's properties. Smart card use is not always automatic granted for users in Server or Vista

Here's the situation...

A clueless coworker of mine decided to take my administrative laptop and use it for something without asking my permission. The end result is a laptop that now requires a smart card to log in but won't proceed to PIN verification when a card is inserted. It is not connected to the domain that enabled the smart card policy, and I can't log in to attach it to that domain to remove the policy.

I'm reminded of a program that can reset a windows password by rewriting the HD sector it resides on, is there something like this for group policies?

I have to do something about this or re-image the machine.

Any suggestions?
