I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Install windows 10 and confirm activation as suggested in forums. Downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool to create fresh reinstall. Ran it to create 64 bit ISO. Now using the ISO to reinstall windows 10. At 30% restore, it failed. I tried various recovery. Even did chkdsk on drive c with /r and also with /f. Same problem again - failure at about 30% restore.

Reading in forums, I discover Refresh Windows Tool(exe). Downloaded and ran it (tool) to download Windows 10.
What I dislike. No Pause or ability to use a download manager. When this download of about 3gb is done, where is it saved? How to use? Yea, automatic for I still have prior install files (programs, data folders, etc) which means nothing was done. Did restart hoping for a fresh reinstall - no changes. Thus I am posting in this forum with paragraph 1 (media tool) and Refresh tool (paragraph 2).

Went into BIOS startup and told it to use DVD (boot order priority), but instead window normal login was done and given. Thus, use window recovery within to execute the ISO.

Several months ago, I downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT).
I created a bootable USB flash drive from this tool back around end of December or January.

Then I ran the following command as shown in the output of my print images here that the description is Windows 10 Technical Preview.

Also, the build is 10586.0 but I do not see version 1511 which means the November Update.
If it is the November Update, then why does it show as Created On 10/30/2015?
I marked those in Red as you can see.

What I am guessing here, that during the Windows 10 clean installation process, it does do Critical Updates, so I guess those Updates are updated to the November Update. But this happens during the installation process.

A:Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT

You have the latest ISO available from Microsoft. Build 10586.0 is the November update base build with no cumulative updates applied. Install it and you will get version 1511 build 10586.0 and a cumulative update from Windows Update will bring it up to build 10586.104. If you downloaded the ISO today you would get exactly the same version/build.

Hi guys,

A while back ago, I had downloaded and performed a clean install of Win10 using the MCT.
I performed the following command to check which version of Win10 is being installed and it only says the build number and not the version number which should be 1511. Thats what I want.

By performing a clean installation using the MCT, how can I check if it is installing version 1511?

Is there any other commands that I can perform to check from the INSTALL.ESD (from the ISO file) if the MCT is really version 1511?

I am trying to create installation media for Windows 8.1 by using the Windows Installation Media Creation Tool found on the Windows website, but every time the download is complete, I get the same message:
"Preparation did not complete successfully
The download did not complete.

There is not enough space on the disk."
Now, on the website and before you begin the download, it states that the USB you're using should have at least 4 GB of free space, but the USB I am using is a 16 GB USB with absolutely nothing on it. Can someone please tell me what is wrong? Am I doing something wrong, or could there be something wrong with my USB, or just my computer in general?

Thank you for any help.

Try just downloading the ISO then just extract(unzip) it to the USB, no media creation tool needed. It'll even be UEFI bootable. I've been using this technique while testing Win10 Tech Preview and it works just fine.

What is your intention with Media Creation Tool ?
Are you planning to install Windows 10 over your Windows 7 Home Premium ?

Open the Media Creation Tool link again > scroll down to Download Tool now and click the button.
click Run > select Create installation media for another PC
That will start downloading the iso to your computer.
Make sure you know where the download is going to be saved to.

After that, you have several choices:
1. Burn the iso file to a bootable dvd or usb, and use it for a Clean Install.
2. Use the iso file itself and do an In-place Upgrade Install.( use Step #7 )

Whichever way you decide, make sure you create a Win 7 Home Premium installation disc, or a set of Recovery disks.
That will be you "Plan B" in case things go awry.

A:Windows 10 Media Creation Tool Questions

You need to up an upgrade with the media creation tool, once it has upgraded your system, it does some sort of system fingerprinting to the MSFT activation servers so it can recognize the PC, when you clean install you can just skip the key bits and it just activates.

The creation tool will detect which version you are entitled to.

If you`re gonna update it by using windows update, you don`t have to choose anything, windows does it for you. It will be apgraded to Windows 10 Home.

If you plan to do a clean install after that, then yes you have to create a windows 10 Home installer.

You can use any PC you want to cretate the install media. As far as I know.

Hi everyone Im new to this site. I been trying to download windows 10 via windows update but it's not appearing in my windows update. I tried windows update fixit multiple times and still nothing. My real question is if I decide to upgrade my windows 7 to 10 how would I go about that. I read on google that microsoft released a creation tool to help with the process. But I upgraded my windows 7 home to windows 7 ultimate via a "Anytime Upgrade Key" that I purchased. I read on google that if you use the media creation tool to upgrade you need to enter a product key. I have the product key for my windows 7 home version. Its the little sticker underneath my laptop. BUT I used a anytime upgrade on my laptop to upgrade from Win7 Home, to Win7 Ultimate. How would I proceed with upgrading to 10. I wanna upgrade to 10 not right now but probably by the fall when the new UI drops for XBOX ONE. O yea for people wondering I do have the Win10 Icon saying its reserved but besides that I don't know. Would I still use the little sticker underneath my laptop to proceed with the upgrade (I prefer upgrade vs clean install, I fear that I wouldn't be able to get all my drivers again).
Sticker underneath is for HOME. I upgraded to ultimate via anytime upgrade key. Does that make the sticker underneath invalid. Thanks

The new Media Creation Tool has been released!

It will allow you to download the ISO file for the Windows 10 "anniversary update" so you can create a bootable DVD or bootable USB thumb drive.

The tool and the Windows 10 version that it downloads is 10.0.14393.0.

After you download and save the tool, close all open windows first, then run the tool.

Follow the directions from there.

I have found this problem on other forums but unfortunately they were unable to solve it as well. The media tool is supposed to create a bootable usb with which can install windows 10. I need to make one in order to reinstall my OS as I'm going to be formatting it. I have 6 different usb drives, all tested and in working order. When using the tool it is unable to detect any of them. As I said before I found this same problem on other forums and they proposed that the brand of usb was the cause and to try a brand like Toshiba. Well, a Toshiba usb drive I ordered a couple of weeks ago arrived in the mail today. I popped it in and still the tool could not detect it. Now, I'm left without options wondering why a program made by Microsoft of all places, seems to just be not working. If anyone has this problem or had it and figured it out, please help me out and tell me what you did. Thanks!

To those who plan to use the Media Creation Tool to download the Windows 10 ISO file, it will no longer allow you to download and install 10586(the Threshold 2 version).
It will only allow you to download and install 10240(the RTM version).
Once 10240 is installed, you then obtain 10586 via Windows update.
You can read more about it here:

Question is why ?
Quite a few reports of issues with the update
Also that home users were getting the Pro version
And that MS does not want to allow the W7/8/8.1 key to be entered to update

Currently I installed Windows 10 Pro build 10586.0 from my USB flash drive created from the Media Creation Tool (MCT).
My question is, I noticed that Microsoft has recently updated the MCT to the latest build.

Before I decide to put this latest build onto my USB flash drive using the MCT, do I need to reformat my USB or will the MCT do the whole process for me by overwriting all the current Win 10 boot and setup files that were on my USB?

So right now, I have all the Windows 10 bootable files created from the MCT, but the build that I have on there now is 10586.0.

So if I decide to create another Win 10 bootable USB using the MCT (Build 10586.36 or higher), will the MCT do all the reformatting automatically or do I need to manually reformat my USB myself before running the MCT?

A:Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) on a USB Flash stick?

Why all that hard work ?
Windows Update will give you the cumulative updates which will update your version to 10586.63.
That's how we got ours updated.
I believe the KB # is KB3124263.

Hi all,

I have just received a new laptop, but it didn't come with a recovery partition so I am trying to create one myself.

The OS it's running is Windows 10 Home 64bit.

I have downloaded the Media Creation Tool in order to download the ISO files for the partition but the none in the selection of Windows 10s in the "Edition" drop down menu match mine.

This is the choice:

- Windows 10
- Windows 10 Home Single Language
- Windows 10 N

The selected edition when the "Use the recommended options for this PC" is ticked is "Windows 10".

None of them include "home" apart from the Single Language edition.

If my current OS is Windows 10 Home should I just select "Windows 10" from the menu?

I take it then I won't be asked to enter an activation key?

As you can probably tell I'm a newbie at this so I appreciate all your help and advice!

I usually resolve this type of issue via a Google search but I wasn't exactly sure how to phrase my question.

1. I have a Sandisk Ultra Fit thumb drive (recommend, by the by)
2. I had to reformat it as a bootable Windows Media Creation drive (so that I could install Windows on a laptop from it)
3. I now wish to restore the thumb drive back to 'normal' but in Windows there seems to be various format choices. I want the formatting that allows me to remove the drive from PC and plug into my TV (so that my TV can read the pictures, video, what have you)

And so what format should I reformat to is really my question? And if you know of a handy webpage that explains the process in Windows 10 please she URL and save yourself the bother of typing it out.

Thank you

Best way is to create a ISO using the MCT then just mount it under Windows 8.1 and run setup.exe from the mounted ISO. Save the ISO in case you need it again or use Rufus to create a bootable UEFI/GPT flash drive you can use top reinstall or do a clean install at some point.

As with the Creators Update, the key to our phased approach is actively listening to all available feedback mechanisms and making the appropriate product updates during the rollout. This allows us to provide a high-quality experience for the broadest set of users at an accelerated rate, while also continually increasing the quality and security of Windows 10. This was our approach with the Creators Update released in April and user feedback on this approach was very positive.

For the best experience, we recommend you wait until Windows 10 is automatically offered to your device. You don?t have to do anything to get the update; it will roll out automatically to you through Windows Update if you?ve chosen to have updates installed automatically on your device. Once the download is complete and the update is ready to install, we?ll check with you, so you can pick the right time to finish the installation and reboot. We do this so we can ensure the update does not disrupt you, and we use active hours to help suggest a good time.

If you don?t want to wait for the update to roll out to you, you can manually check for updates on your personal PC using the steps below. This will only work if your device is eligible to get the Fall Creators Update as part of the initial roll out phase. Alternatively, you can manually get the update today via the Software Download Site. This option is only recommended for advanced users on devices running a licensed version of Windows 10. If ... I would like to comment on the Fall Creator's Edition Update of Windows 10!  This has to be one of the biggest disasters that Microsoft has ever accomplished.  As one can see from the various problems encountered after the install this update was not well designed, was not thoroughly quality controlled and now has the support staff scrambling to figure out how to answer all of the issues that it caused.  Here is my list of issues after the update:  Mail and Calendar programs missing from Start Menu, Control Panel Apps shows them to be installed but I cannot add to start menu and cannot start either program.  Several other Apps also missing from Start Menu including Amazon, Adobe Reader and most other third party Apps but also several more Microsoft Apps or Windows Programs.  Files missing:  Somehow during the install Microsoft decides to remove the pointers from the Pictures and Documents folders so that it appears all previous files in these locations are lost.  By navigating thru Users...Documents I was able to retrieve all of the files but how many novice or new users are going to know how to do this type of trouble shooting?  This is a bonafide nightmare for Microsoft and takes me one step closer to trading in all of Dell computers for Macs!  It cannot possibly be worse than two days of troubleshooting and researching how to get back to the same functionality I had before installing the latest Windows 10 Update!  ... Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Reaches RTM

Microsoft has completed development of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, with the official release to take place as planned on October 17.

The company today shipped Windows 10 build 16299.15 to insiders in the Fast ring, and according to reports, this is the RTM build of the Fall Creators Update that everyone will get later this month.

The only difference is that Microsoft will continue to service (to improve) this particular build with more cumulative updates, and this means that insiders will be provided with several patches in the coming days until October 17.

Microsoft has promised to confirm when the RTM build is compiled, so an announcement in this regard is expected anytime soon, especially because the company is also likely to start pushing smaller patches to devices enrolled in the Insider program in the next few days.

No word on the mobile release just yet
For the time being, no stand-alone ISOs are available for insiders, but once the very same build is released to the Slow ring, such media should also be released for those who want to perform a clean install. Additionally, this build should also make it to the Release Preview ring in the coming weeks.

Of course, whoever wants to clean-install build 16299.15 can build their own ISO, though this requires additional steps. Learn here how to build your own Windows 10 ISO.

Now that Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is close to getting the final go-ahead, insiders in... Read more

Report Id: 7bb943c3-b3ac-402b-8952-7bb7b9668f95. I upload the minidump if can help, maybe is a driver but I can't identify it. The Windows is a clean install not much 3rd party software on it, worth to mention "VMware 12" and "PGP Disk".
The minidump is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oNg2_FjIozYUqZVOtweXhGbjsN9P0YDv/view?usp=sharing
I contacted Microsoft, no help as expected (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/bsod-at-about-every-two-days-on-windows-10-fall/afccbe66-e733-4dc2-af9a-fdc79e66eca1)
"Reliability history" can prove:

My OS is: Microsoft Windows Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.192)
My laptop is: ASUS GL502VM-FY040T/I76700HQ/16/1+256/G (https://www.asus.com/us/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-GL502VM/)
I never overclocked it.

Found the following bugs in v1709.

1) The Windows Push Notification System Service now defaults to 'automatic' instead of 'manual'. If you set the startup to 'manual' and reboot, any newly created accounts will have a non-functional Start Menu.

2) Software Restriction Policy now extends BAT file restriction to local group policy ( gpedit.msc ) 's logon/logoff script settings. That means you cannot no longer use a bat file for logon/logoff scripts if SRP is active. You can always remove the BAT extension from being covered by SRP, but that would decrease security.

3) Software Restricion Policy's Enforcement section: if you specify SRP to cover 'all software files'; meaning it covers DLL files as well as EXE, then MS Edge will crash. (this bug actually started in v1703, but is still not fixed)

The crusty SMBv1 file-sharing protocol, abused by a NSA exploit last month that spread WannaCry, will be removed from Windows 10 starting with the upcoming Redstone 3 update.

?We can confirm that SMBv1 is being removed for Redstone 3,? a Microsoft representative told Threatpost.

Redstone 3, a code-name for the Fall Creators Update, will begin the phasing out of SMBv1, a plan that reportedly has been in the works for years and is not a reaction to the EternalBlue exploit, nor WannaCry. It is due in September.

SMBv1, short for the Server Message Block protocol, provides shared access to Windows file and print services on a local network. Attackers believed to have ties to North Korea used the EternalBlue exploit, leaked in April by the ShadowBrokers, to spread the ransomware worldwide on May 12. Hospitals in the U.K., giant telecommunications providers across Europe, and many businesses in Russia and across Asia fell victim to WannaCry, which eventually infected unpatched Windows servers running SMBv1 in more than 150 countries.
Microsoft had patched the SMBv1 vulnerability in question in March in MS17-010, one month before the ShadowBrokers? leak, and urged admins worldwide to install the patch immediately. The WannaCry outbreak, however, demonstrated that many organizations did not heed those warnings; the ransomware, generally derided for its shoddy coding, still managed to infect... Read more

We?ve come a long way since we launched DirectX 12 with Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. Since then, we?ve heard every bit of feedback and improved the API to enhance stability and offer more versatility. Today, developers using DirectX 12 can build games that have better graphics, run faster and that are more stable than ever before. Many games now run on the latest version of our groundbreaking API and we?re confident that even more anticipated, high-end AAA titles will take advantage of DirectX 12.

DirectX 12 is ideal for powering the games that run on PC and Xbox, which is the most powerful console on the market. Simply put, our consoles work best with our software: DirectX 12 is perfectly suited for native 4K games on the Xbox One X.

In the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we?ve added features that make it easier for developers to debug their code. In this article, we?ll explore how these features work and offer a recap of what we added in Windows 10 Creators Update.

But first, let?s cover how debugging a game or a program utilizing the GPU is different from debugging other programs.

As covered previously, DirectX 12 offers developers unprecedented low-level access to the GPU (check out Matt Sandy?s detailed post for more info). But even though this enables developers to write code that?s substantially faster and more efficient, this comes at a cost: the API is more complicated, which means that there are more opportunities for mistakes.

Many of these mi... Read more
