Preferred Solution: BIOS HELP!!!!!! fan very loud after updating bios

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi there, i am fixing a friends old computer and the hdd was stuffed so i got a new maxtor diamondmax 9 for it. although once installing it i found out that it would only run in udma2 mode (checked it in another computer and it ran at full udma6)
so i suspect that the current bios cannot support udma5 or 6, so i am looking for a bios upgrade for it.
the bios string is 6A69RPRDC-00, the number on the actual motherboard is 35-C960-00-05
thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
thanks again
-Moltenz

ps. i just found this

if that is any help.

A:help with updating bios. cannot find bios upgrade - 6A69RPRDC-00

WOW..............

Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)

I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).

You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
Try WWW.driverguide,com

You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.

otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

My fan is TOO loud and HP have told me I cannot update the bios which could remedy this problem because I've updated to Windows 10. Is there a way around this? HP said I need to revert to my last OS, but that was W7 which I think also isn't supported. My machine came with Vista! If I do revert to my old OS and update the bios can I re-upgrade to W10 and will the bios update carry through?

Apparently I found another version of the bios which 2JCN27WW. I think this is the original bios for lenovo yoga 910. I have installed 27W and it seems really quite than 28W, 34W an 35W. When the computer wakes up from sleep or when I turn it on the fans dont turn and run fast. See if it helps you. Also the laptop doesnt get hot as much and stays running cooler and much quieter and the fans dont get loud at all vs 28W. Please test this bios version like you did the rest as it would be helpful to know. After two days of usage, I can honestly say the computer laptop has never been quiter and ran so smooth. Everything runs much smoother due to the fans being off and the only browser I use id google chrome and the fans are still off. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/2jcn27ww.exe

Same problem I have on version v2.02.My question is, can I downgrade to for ex. on older version (V1.14 or V1.13) without any brick this laptop? In these versions are different fan table well? Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... I honestly did try to search for this, but all I found were results for POST codes. This is a annoying loud continuous beeping sound. This happens after the boot diagnostics, at the point where windows should boot up. There is a cursor in the upper right corner, and that is all it does.

This is a HP Pavilion Elite m9040n PC. It came with Windows Vista, and I am upgrading to Windows 7. I stupidly didn't run upgrade advisor, and am now regretting it.

When I go to HP to find drivers, no Windows 7 drivers show up for this PC. Stupidly, again, I assumed this meant that they were packaged in with Windows 7.

I don't think this is a hardware issue. It happens repeatedly at boot up, but when I put the installation CD in, the PC boots off the CD just fine. This probably doesn't eliminate any hard drive issues, but the PC wasn't showing any signs before, and the installation goes through without a hitch. Is this caused by not having compatible drivers? Are there computers that can't be upgraded? I do meet the minimum requirements. 2.4 Ghz, 3 GB Ram. What may I be missing?

I truly appreciate any help...

Summary, my X220 fan is loud as heck and is driving me crazy! what happened:- Lenovo system update app tells me I need to get the latest BIOS- I download and install itA couple of days later...- I eject the laptop from the dock while the computer is on.- Suddenly the fan start running very loudly.- Now I'm back in the dock. Whenever I do something CPU intensive like load a new application or open a bunch of web tabs, the fans revs up again and it sounds realy loud and harsh like I've never heard it before. I tried downloading the TPFC (Thinkpad Fan Controller) app but it still gets loud and buzzy when it runs Any ideas how to resolve this? It happens when it finishes totally to shut down.I am sure that the noise was not present before the update. Also I have another laptop of same model, the other one (i didn't upgrade) doesn't make this noise. For sure, i will not upgrade it.Am i the only one having this issue? Is there a way to roll back the BIOS? In the page i can only see the new version of BIOS. Thanks in advance,Kind regards,

Hi

About a year ago, a technician changed a Bios setting so that the computer would not be too loud. Last week, I was trying to identify a shut down error and reset the bios to default. The error was found, not to be a bios setting but a failing Power supply, which has been replaced by another technician. It is the same power supply I had - Antec 430. The computer is now very loud again.

I have an Asus A7N8XE-Deluxe board. I enabled Q-Fan Control . I left it at the default setting of 15/16 and the speed up/down response time as 4sec/8sec but this has not made a difference.

Please do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Hey. I just want to share my experience with bios update on my hp 8710w laptop and talking to HP support. I updated from F.0E to F.20 and after that fan has gone wild. Under windows 7 it works fine every 2 out of 3 boots, or so. Every other time fan spins fast no matter what the temperature and system load are. This makes the laptop noisy. I normally use linux, and there fan just doesn't slow down after spinning up to cool the system. This is really something you won't want to have, because it turns an excellent and quiet machine into a loud vacuum cleaner. I have enough evidence to assume that the issue was caused by bios update. First it started exactly after bios update when nothing else was changed. Second, some 5 years ago I had a very similar laptop (8710p) and when I updated bios to F.0F, the same thing happened, but I happily downgraded the bios and everything was back to normal. Plus there are reports of others on the internet and these discussion boards in particular. Now with update to F.20.... There is no way to downgrade. It is embarassing: HP released an update that breaks functionality... and there is no way back (except replacing the system board indeed, which is expensive for laptops out of warranty). I was chatting and then talking over the phone with HP support. They aren't really any close to being professionals. First they said that my windows 7 is not officially supported and I should install xp or vista. I got xp installed just ... Read more

Hey everyone how do i install my latest bios from my manufacture, i cant get the flash bios to work?!!? heres a link to my mobo. The flash thing to install bios is like a comand promp but it starts then closes itself! what can this be? thankyou in advance

A:Need Help Updating BIOS

be extremely careful when updating the BIOS. Not completing the BIOS flash will render your motherboard a paperweight. You will then have to send it in to get the BIOS reburned on the EPROM.

Most manufactuers have explicit instructions on their websites for updating BIOS files. There is a dos file to do this usually. BIOS updates cannot be done through windows. Use your floppy drive.

basically you type the name of your flash program, followed by the name of the new BIOS file.

LET IT RUN ITS FULL COURSE. DO NOT INTERRUPT.

also SAVE your OLD BIOS. Most BIOS flash programs have this option. Save it to another floppy disk. You might need it if you run into problems.

I hope I'm posting appropriately. I'll try to be brief.

I've been having problems with my monitor lately. Squiggly lines appear around the lower half of the monitor and garble the image. Messing with the degauss and refresh rate seem to have no effect. The effect seems to be random, and from what I have read I assume it's just dying, but there is something troubling me. I ran the troubleshooter (which I don't think I've ever really done) and got to the point where it said I should update my BIOS. When I first had this computer assembled in 2k2, I had a problem which ended up being the BIOS and the folks that put it together updated it and its been that long since its been done. I've since installed a new video card and updated windows a fair amount in that time.

I'm trying not to be too verbose, but I want any helpers that may come my way to have as much info about my situation as possible...

Anyway, whether or not this is the problem with my monitor may not be important. If the monitor is just dying out I probably still need to update don't I? I've read a bit about it and I've downloaded what I assume is the most recent update for my BIOS and the (again, assuming) appropriate "flash" thingy. However, I'm more than a little apprehensive about attempting this on my own without some input.

The folks here helped me out immensely a while back with a browser hijack and the first forum I though of to come to with th... Read more

A:Updating BIOS

My thoughts:
1. The BIOS has been there since 2002, the squiggly lines appeared recently. ergo the BIOS has nothing to do with the squiggly lines.

2. The windows troubleshooters are as useful as tits on a bull.

3. If you are not experienced with BIOS upgrades be warned you can get into real trouble if anything goes wrong - possibly to the extent your PC never works again.

4. The majority of people NEVER upgrade their BIOS and their computers still seem to work OK.

Have a look at the download site where you get v1010 and see what the update is supposed to fix. Unless it says "fixes squiggly line problem" (and I'll bet good money it doesn't) it's not going to help you.

Let us know what kind of monitor and what kind of display card you have, because i think you have a hardware problem.

Hello!

My OS is Win7 ultimate 32-bit.
I have an Asus P5LD2-X/1333 motherboard. I used to have a Intel Pentium Dual-Core 1.80ghz. Today I installed a Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2.50ghz E5200. It's running just fine, without any software updates. However when starting the PC I get the following message:

Unknown CPU detected. Update BIOS to unleash it's full power.
Fress F1 to continue.

As I said, Windows runs just fine. But I feel like I should update the BIOS (or should I really?).

After 2 hours of failed attempts to update it, I find myself here. The update file i got from the Asus site is a .rom, so I can't run it with Windows.

So what have I done?
First I created a bootable flash drive with the .rom file on it using windows's tools (cmd > diskpart) as fat32. When trying to boot it (after I changed the boot order) I get a message saying "Remove any storage or media". When I use the BIOS's EZ Flash I get the following loop:

Checking floppy...
nothing found!
Checking CD...
nothing found!
etc etc

I tried the same, this time with ntfs - same results.

Then I did the same, this time making the flash drive bootable with Rufus. The results are mostly the same, but this time when I boot it, I get a flashing "_" at the bottom left of the screen. It stayed there for 6 minutes and I eventually lost patience. Should I have waited more?

You go to the Soyo website and download the BIOS for your exact model of motherboard (looks like a SY-K7VEM Pro). Soyo also provides instructions how to actually flash the BIOS.

Do you really have to upate your BIOS? One false step and your motherboard may become a useless slab with colorful bits on it.

A:Updating BIOS

Check the PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site to see if there is a firmware update for the BIOS. If there is read the notes to see if you think that the fixes or improvements are worth it. Updating the firmware is doing a brain transplant so in the unlikely event that something goes wrong there will probably be no recovery.

Yes, you can probably do it, depending on the procedure given.

I have never updated my BIOS before and want to ask what and where should I get an update for my laptop, how to apply it and things I should be careful about. Also, would this void my warranty?

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5742ZG
OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86
CPU Intel Pentium P6100
Motherboard Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series
Memory 3 GB DDR3
Graphics Card(s) NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M

LE: Also, while we're on the subject, do you have any good reads on BIOS updating and when it should be done? It's unexplored territory for me

A:Need help updating BIOS

Hey, first thing you need to do is type msinfo32 in the Start button search/run box. In the window that opens, look up the field Bios version/date and tell us what exactly you see there. This tells you the version number and date of the currently installed bios. By knowing this it can be determined whether an update is actually applicable.

Bios updating used to be a dangerous business in the earlier days but with better and more user friendly tools its quite OK, as long as you take certain precautions. However, do remember that no matter you do everything right, theres a very small chance that your mobo can get bricked, so the responsibility is all yours.

Not trying to frighten you, just need to be careful and be prepared.

Recently discovered my BIOS is from 1999, All i know about it is that is is a Dell AO6 Revised, where can I get an update (preferably for free)?

A:BIOS updating-ing

I would check Dell's web site. Only update your BIOS if you have a reason to do so! If everything is working OK leave it alone.

I've been trying to update my BIOS as I realised how old the driver is, but I useless, as they tell me to download programs that cost and I just cannot be bothered to go through all that.

Could anyone give me a link to where I can just download an update please?

A:Updating my BIOS

Try here, this is the driver page for your computer model number listed in your specs. Notice the OS says Vista but if its a BIOS update the only relevance of the OS is weather the flash utility will run in Windows 7. All the other drivers listed are for Vista. This could be the correct BIOS for your machine but a second opinion would be most welcome to confirm.

P.S Run at your own risk as we all know the risks of incorrect BIOS updates. Check the motherboard show to be P5LP-LE before flashing.

Recently got an older Dell laptop with Vista on it. I know nothing has ever been upgraded on it and I'd like to upgrade the bios but Dell won't give me any information because it's not under warrantee. Is there a web site where I can go to that can scan for the correct updated bios and possibly scan the laptop and let me know what else needs to be updated or should I just take this into a repair shop.

Is there a web site where I can go to that can scan for the correct updated biosClick to expand...

Don't know if anything like that exists. Why not just go to www.dell.com, Support section, and see if there is a BIOS update for that machine? Use the Service Tag for easier searching.

and possibly scan the laptop and let me know what else needs to be updatedClick to expand...

Dell may do that. Reinstall Vista (or Recover to factory defaults) if that was not done and then get and install the latest drivers from Dell's site. Install the chipset first.

Most manufacturers have updated BIOS on their websites for download. If it is a custom build, the motherboard manufacturer will have one.

It is not usually necessary to update BIOS unless you have a particular issue that the update resolves . .

I need to upgrade my BIOS in an attempt to hopefully fix my new video card. I have a Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A05. Anyone know where to get the updates and how to do them? My computer is Dell Dimension 2400. Thanks.

Oh and I don't have a floppy drive. So I'm not sure how to update the BIOS without one.

Basically I want to flash my Bios, but the thing is... I am not sure which I have to choose! is it all of them? do I choose the latest one? I am lost.

Bios updates: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3863#bios
Motherboard: GA-Z68A-D3-B3 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3863#ov

your help is really appreciated.

(p.s. if I am correct, my current version is F3. Not even listed!)

A:Updating BIOS

You only choose one and that is usually the latest one.

That said, are you having a problem that you hope the BIOS update will fix? If not, see the warning:

"Warning:
Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction."

Can anyone set me in the right direction on what I need to do to update my bios? I am running windows 95 4.00.950b on a Compaq 575 Deskpro with 32 ram and a screamin 518 megs of hard drive.

I have run a Compaq Diagnostics Version PC10.19A and it shows these ROM Revisions that seem older than dirt:

System ROM
Revision: 05/20/1998
Family: 486G
Video Controller ROM
Revision: 12/01/1994
Family: V1
Keyboard Controller ROM
Revision: C.7 06/14/1991
Family: K

I downloaded and ran one of those utilities that tell you what you have on your system and it couldn't even recognize my bios and told me I needed to update it so I thought I would give it a try...

While I got you here (and if I need to address this in another thread I will) In my controll panel / system/ Devices /hard disk controllers I have 2 "Standard IDE/ESDI" listings...as far as I can tell they have diferent input/output ranges and IRQ's...I THINK I remember reading somewhere that this could be a problem...any light you can shed on this cunundrum would be appreciated.

Thanks..you guys are the greatest and btw with your help I finnally found that graphics controller I was looking for and it seems like I have a new computer...WOW..."look at the colors man"(Dennis Hopper-Easy Rider)

I  recently acquired a gem of ancient tech-- it is a used hp envy 17-1191nr--  a few changes from stock, however is that it has a new 250GB SSD, 16GB of RAM, and is running windows 10... but one small problem...I think it needs a BIOS update because of the behavior it has when I leave it in sleep mode, it doesn't like to wake up.I have a habit of leaving it asleep but the boot from shut off is not long at all (about 15 seconds or less) What happens is that the keyboard backlight comes on and it seems to be trying to wake up but fails and I think the speakers make a slight pop noise, and then it keeps repeating thatMy 'fix' is to remove battery and power and then re-insert and it starts up again, no problem.Reading on-- I read that it would likely be either the BIOS or the battery. Tonight I did a test with a spare battery and same thing happens.. my co-worker and he said it may be the BIOS too.  My other concern is seeing that the date on my BIOS is also from 2010 (F.1B) and the newer one from HP's website is F.1D from 2011... and that my BIOS is booting from Legacy rather than UEFI.... I'd like to know how to update the BIOS, because I tried changing the BIOS boot order and it doesn't seem to work to get it to boot to CD or USB, when I attempted to change the order, it just tells me to remove CD or USB and press any key to boot normally. This is my system info, if anyone knows what I need to do... I don't plan to jump the gun here and risk brick... Read more

Hello, today i  wanted to update my bios (from "P02-A2" to "P03-A3) because i want to use my new processor - intel i7 3770, but after start updating i got sad massage "Rom file size does not match existing BIOS size".I have got a predator g3610 and i was installing it through DOS by using pendrive. What should i do now?

A:Updating bios

P03-A3 BIOS description says:BIOS (for device with Ivy Bridge & USB 3.0 supported) has your Predator the Ivy Bridge microarchitecture? i don't think you can update P02-A2 version to P03-03, the BIOS flash is telling that, different ROM size.
