Hi all, I accidentally dropped my x1 carbon 3rd generation on the floor and since then the screen stopped working. I connected it to an external monitor, it boots fine and everything runs normally. However, I can only see the backlight working on the laptop screen. Would replacing the LED panel solve this issue or could the issue be somewhere else? Thanks for any insight! I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch. It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar. I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either. Am I missing a driver? Thanks in advance.
Go to Solution.
Be sure to hold the Fn key while pressing the Spacebar to turn on the backlit keyboard. If you have already tried this to no avail, then I would recommend checking some BIOS settings. To enter BIOS, reboot the machine. When it is powering back up and you see the Lenovo splash screen, tap the Enter key repeatedly. A menu should appear. When it does, press F1 to enter BIOS. Once here, navigate to Config ? Keyboard/Mouse and check the settings of Fn and Ctrl Key swap and Fn Key Lock. For purposes of this test, make sure they are both set to Disabled. Once done, press F10 to save and exit. The machine should now boot normally. Log in to Windows and try to activate the backlight again and see if that works.
Best of luck,

Got my first thinkpad x1 laptop 2016 Type FB20 and unfortunately touchscreen is not working. It does not show touch device detail under Device Manager > HID. I tried to find touch screen driver in lenovo support portal but not able to find any such driver. Please let me know if any of you faced similar issue.
As the X1 Carbon 4th Gen isn't available with a touchscreen, that's no real surprise. If you want a very similar device that has a touchscreen, have a look at the X1 Yoga.Read other 1 answers

Only 3 lights on backlit keyboard are working: Volume on/off, wifi on/off, and backlighting button on/off. Is there a way to troubleshoot software and hardware issues related to this problem? Or does this require replacing the keyboard all together. The keyboard is in mint condition so very frustrating

Hello everybody, just purchased a Z50-70 and am pleased so far. However, the A**zon product specifications stated it would have a backlit keyboard (bought the 59424714). Up to now I have not been able to switch it on (Fn+space doesn't work) and/ or find any settings for it. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance!
Make sure all drivers are installed and up to date, also check bios settings just to double check everything is ok in there.

Hello I am having issues with my HP ENVY x2 - 13-j000na (ENERGY STAR). The keyboard will only work when attached to the screen in a very specific position. Changing the angle of the screen results ini it disconnecting and being unable to reconnect. When not attached to the screen it will not work at all.I still have warranty and would really like this sorted ASAP as it is incredibly annoying. I've tried all the recommendations of updating BIOS and drivers etc and still nothing. Can anyone help? Thanks.
It's a hardware issue and is going to have to be addressed by making a warranty claim. There is no adjustment or quick setting fix we can provide.Read other 3 answers
I just received my new XPS 13 9350 and the backlit keyboard never worked.. the only light i can see is from the caps lock...
I've no idea whether this is a hardware problem or just some driver problem...
I've tried the BIOS setting but nothing changed. And the Windows Mobility Center didn't show anything about keyboard backlight..
Thank you for writing to us! You can use the F6 key combination to enable or disable backlight.
Hoping this helps!
I have recently replaced my laptop's bezel. Since then backlit is not working even though the settings are correct. Could this issue be due to bezel replacement. If yes, please suggest how to resolve it
I assume that removed both the keyboard and palm rest first to remove the LCD assembly and finally the LCD bezel. I would go back and check the keyboard and make sure that both the keyboard data and back lite cables are connected correctly. The manual doesn't show a back lit keyboard, but on back lit keyboards there are two cables that will need to be connected.
I have the S50-B-15P model with Windows 10 installed. I never checked if the backlit keyboard worked on Windows 8.1, as soon as I got it I upgraded to Windows 10.
I have installed all the drivers from the Toshiba Windows 10 upgrade page however as before the keyboard works just not backlit!
I opened the eco utility software and checked for the keyboard backlit settings under eco mode however it does not exist and no setting exists in the BIOS either. The keyboard does have the symbol to enable the backlit function on the Z key however pressing FN + Z does nothing.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Does the keyboard even have this function or is it faulty?
I have the same problem as its with you
my laptop is Satellite S50T-B1391 which is new just 4 days I check every thing like you Fn+Z is not working the bios is new version and nothing is there also nothing about backlit in eco utility app
I check it in win 8.1 before upgrading and win 10 all have the same problem
I have a new Dell XPS 13 Linux edition (this one) and immediately installed Linux Mint 18 on it, wiping the Ubuntu 14.04 which was shipped with the it.
I am really confident with it, only the backlight for the keyboard is not working. I have a keyboard light symbol on my F10 key but when I press it, nothing happens. All other features and all other media controls/media keys/screen brightness keys work. When clicking the battery icon in the Linux Mint taskbar, I see 2 controls, one for the keyboard lights brightness and one for the screen brightness. When I drag those bars, only the screen brightness is working again.
I also see the settings in /sys/class/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/ (I think that's the config folder for it). The brightness file in this directory contains "1", so as I understand this correctly, this should theoretically work.
As I noted before I immediately installed Linux Mint on it, so I can't say whether it worked before. And this is really the only thing which is not working on the laptop.
I have obviously checked that my ultrabook has backlights with the product number on its back.
Do you have some tips so I can get this to work? Thanks in advance!
When I purchased the laptop it cames with Windows 8.1. I upgraded to an SSD myself and put Windows 8.1 back on and almost immediately upgraded to Windows 10. Sadly, I do not remember if the backlit keyboard worked on 8.1 with the SSD. I assume I am missing some driver or something simple like that but I have had my laptop identified on the HP site and installed all the drivers for it. If I recall correctly pressing F5 should do the trick but it does not. Just an FYI, when I hit caps lock and the mute button it lights up orange as it should.Read other answers
Hello!I've been using my Latitude E6410 for a few years now and it's by far the best laptop I've ever had.Recently, my backlit keyboard stopped working. It's something that you don't appreciate enough until you lose it... :) So I got a new backlit keyboard for it and installed it, but it still doesn't work.I wonder if it could be a problem that's unrelated to the keyboard itself - maybe some motherboard issue / bios bug / whatever. Or maybe the new keyboard I got has its backlit feature broken.Any ideas? Please note it's been my computer for a while now, so I know all about how to activate it (alt+right arrow / bios setting). also note that it doesn't work even before the OS loads, where it used to work perfectly earlier.Thank you very much!Read other answers
First of all the support section on Lenovos website must be the most confusing I've ever experienced. I can't find anywhere to send a simple email asking a question. When I enter my product serial at http://support.lenovo.com/ I cant use either email or chat because for some reason those options are not available for my product!I did try to call them, but they don't understand anything. No technical knowledge. So my last option was to register for this forum and hope someone can help me. (Even the forum didn't seem to be updated as there was no section for my model, ideapad 700, only up to 500) Anyway my question is that my backlit keyboard is not working for my Lenovo 700 15ISKYes I fully understand I have to activate it by Fn + Spacebar. But nothing happens. My spacebar has the symbol for backlit keyboard. I was confused at first because I've read that some configurations of Ideapad 700 15ISK does not have backlit keyboard. My Machine Type Model: 80RU001KMX I have tried updating drivers, bios and windows 10. "Lenovo settings" should have an icon for the backlit keyboard, so that you whithin that app/program could activate it. My Lenovo settings app does not have this icon. Hi all, I recently purchased a T460s with some upgrades on the specifications (RAM 16 GB, GPU GeForce 930M and etc.). The initial operating system was set to Windows 7, so I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit. I manually downloaded all the drivers required for this laptop and windows 10. While everything else runs pretty well, the keyboard backlight does not seem to work. I haven't checked if the backlight works on the previous operating system, so I am unsure if the problem is actually from the hardwares or if the OS was updated wrong. I am pretty sure that this model supports the keyboard backlit function since the space bar has that little image on the left side that (I'm guessing) indicates the function of backlit keyboards. I'm wondering if there are actual drivers that I must intall prior to pressing the (Fn+Spacebar) keys to turn on the backlight, or if there is a problem with my computer. If it's the case of the latter, I am thinking about resetting my laptop (reinstalling windows 10). Being aware of how long it takes to download and install all the necessary components, once I do, is there any method of backing up the computer and after the reset just using that backup to go back to the original state where I have all my programs and data? Thanks.Read other answers
This morning my HP Omen arrived in the mail, fully functional with everything in tact. After I left my laptop to install the updates from the HP Support Assistant (One of those updates being a BIOS update), I came back to find my computer restarted and my backlit keyboard not working. After trying to use the HP OMEN Control to fix the keyboard, I found that the keyboard will flash briefly when I click "Apply To All Zones", but then immediately turns off again. Is there any way to fix this Backlit Keyboard issue ir can we see an update in the near future that fixes this issue?
Found a solution! Apparently, the keyboard shuts down after the BIOS update, so in order to turn it back on just push F5.Read other 10 answers
I've tried downloading the latest bios and resetting the keyboard options in OMEN CONTROL as well as pressing the F5 button but nothing works. The speaker lights are working fine and can still be customized through CONTROL however the rest of the keyboard won't light up regardless of whatever color or zones I choose through OMEN. I've read in the forum that other users have had this problem after a bios update and clicking th F5 has worked for some users but it still has not for me. My laptop just fell out of the one year warranty and it would be disheartening to lose the ability of a backlit keyboard for a $2000 laptop just because of a bios update. Any advice is appreciated! My husbands ASUS touch screen laptop-keyboards are not working. I know it has windows 8. Core i3 intel inside. Like I said it is a touchscreen and neither the hardware keyboard or touch screen keyboard will do any thing (well it is like the computer understands i am doing something with the keyboard, but not typing. Ex. i will type and the curser line will do nothing but suddenly go like an italicized line. The mouse works and the touch screen works but I cannot type anything. I have wiggled the keys thinking maybe something is stuck but no help. also I have restored it to its factory settings thinking maybe he accidentally set some keyboard sleep command or something. We are both not smart at this, and again it is not my computer, he has it for work, so who knows what he did to it. But yeah, after restore it still wouldn't work and now I am stuck at the registration "getting started" windows and I cannot bypass them....or don't know how to without being about to type. The last it worked he said he cleaned it with pressurized air, so I don't know if that was too much for the keys...if he actually blew dirt into it, or what strange thing could have happened...but the fact that both touch screen and actual keyboard aren't working I am left stumped. I hope I gave enough information on the computer. It has that surface windows...he normally just uses the desk top mode. Ok thank you for any advice.

If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task! hi ya. im hoping someone can help me with an issue im having my laptop. for some reason my touch pad and keyboard stop working. i have tried reintalling windows to correct the issue which it does for a day and then the same thing happens again. when i checked in device manager and clicked on PS/2 mouse it said there was a code 10 error. if i uninstall ps/2 and restart the laptop it fixes the issue for a while, then it occurs again. my OS is windows 7, i think it was upgraded from windows vista (i only recently purchased this laptop 2nd hand) so im not 100% sure on that. the driver date for the ps/2 compatible mouse is 6/21/2006. i have tried looking on the website for a more updated keypad driver but i could not seem to find one. it seems to have every other driver apart for keypad driver.
any help would be greatly appreciated

When my Inspiron 15 7568 is flipped around into tablet config, both touch and stylus stop working.
Is there a firmware fix? It appears to be a problem inside the machine and not Windows. When I open the lid all the way, a number of items instantly vanish from the device manager. -Which is smart for things like the touch pad and the keyboard, but somehow the touch screen and stylus got included in that feature.
Come on!Nobody knows a thing?
-I was thinking of perhaps hardware-chopping the switch which tells the computer it's in tablet mode and just disabling the keyboard and touch pad manually when I don't need them. That way the computer would never realize it's not in lap-top mode, (where touch still works) and I'd be able to use the machine as a tablet. But I can't find the switch! There's no obvious board or reed switch or anything which would interact with the magnets, and none of the repair literature has anything to say about this. So even though that solution would work, it's a bust. But it's also nonsense. It's obviously some simple binary switch in a piece of deep code on some bit of firmware. -I blanked everything, rolled back drivers, pulled both batteries, (main and coin) and did a BIOS reset in an effort to hunt down this deep code and hopefully reset it to something sensible by re-installing everything. (A hopelessly ridiculous approach when all that's needed is a 1 to be a 0 or whatever it is), but all I managed to do was destroy my Windows 10 installation, so I had to re-image my SSD from the original drive the Inspiron shipped with.Basically... what I need is for there to be a specific driver update which grants the user access to the lid sensor and adjust its behavior according to the user wishes. "And golly, alls I wishes is that it works."Is there any chance of this ever happeni... Read more
