My internet proxy setting keep getting changed

Q: My internet proxy setting keep getting changed

I really need some help with a really tough virus. My internet proxy setting keep getting changed. Even when I do a virus scan it says nothing and Hijack this shows is R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http= - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localandO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /autoO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win32 Firewall] C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\198.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Win32 Firewall] C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\198.exeI know there is more to the log but these are the ones that I am having the most trouble with. I deleted my temp folder and removed all these entires from Hijack but they keep coming back. The 198.exe changing to a different number after it is removed so now it would be O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Win32 Firewall] C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\696.exe. I believe there is a rundll file doing this.I had a crap load of virus on my computer that avast and hijack and GMER and rootappeal were able to get rid of by I cant get rid of this one. I seem to recall that when you change the proxy settings for Internet Explorer, it's not just IE you are changing. IEs proxy settings are somehow the proxy settings for other apps and the OS as well. Can anyone confirm this? What connections are affected if I add a proxy in IE?

A:Internet Explorer Proxy Setting

The proxy settings in Internet Explorer preferences are for IE and any system function that needs Internet access, such as Windows Update. In a large network going through a company proxy server is often the only way to access the Internet. Many applications choose to use these settings while others have their own configuration options. Many will use the system setting by default but provide the means to override this. Applications are free to do whatever they want regarding proxy servers.

Hi All

I want traffic to a specific secure website(*.paypal.com) to go through a Proxy server and port - on port 1818

Now, I know under Internet Options, you can specify a proxy address, but then all traffic will go through that Proxy. I want to direct traffic ONLY to *.paypal.com to go through the proxy.

Do you perhaps set this in the hosts file like this: 1818 *paypal.com
But I don't think this will work Any idea how to do this? certainly it must be possible?

I have strange issue with Windows 8.1 x64 Pro with Media Center. Since it was upgraded from 8, there have been issues with Software Store. Despite internet connection working fine with Firefox and other applications, Store would not connect to the internet. After long investigation I found out that Proxy server setting in Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings must be disabled in order to get Store working again. For some reason proxy server only stays disabled for the current session, which means when the windows is rebooted it comes back enabled again. My question is how to make it stay permanently disabled, as I don't use any proxy. Thanks.

The computer I am working on is reporting port forwarding issues when running malware bytes(Retail version). Reason I thought I had malware was due to computer being a lot slower then usual.
I use Norton 360 as my Security suite, and it has not detected anything.
It appears that something changed the Security settings(Maybe malwarebytes did this), because when I set them back to default, Malware Bytes does not report any issues while scanning.
Only thing this person installed recently was Roxio 2012, and that was a few months back. This has just started happening past few days.
I ran a hijack this and analyzed it on hijack.de, and nothing stood out.
So here I am. Any insight and advice is appreciated.

I've been having a ton of problems since my boyfriend clicked on an email he thought was authentic from an ebay fraud. Web pages have been slow to not responsive, I kept getting errors about remote server refusing connections, the lan service kept showing proxy server settings and when I would uncheck the box, it just went back again and the check reappears. I tried a system restore and when it came back on it was doing something with new settings and there was never a box or anything with an option to make new settings from the restore. I've done this a few times before and never had settings load like this did. Since then everything seems to have problems. Also, I cannot view the wireless adapter properties because it says I don't have administrative privileges which is what I sign in under I think and also when I click on the show characters under the password it never shows it now just makes the check disappear. I have installed a driver from Wells Fargo for a check scanner. This driver installs a service that connects the scanner to a Wells Fargo's server.  For some reason it bypasses the proxy settings in IE.  Is there a way to either force this
particular service through the proxy or to globally set all network traffic to be sent through the proxy.  Keep in mind that the proxy server is not located on our local network but is remote so I can't set the Default gateway to the proxy. And I
have used netsh.exe to set the WinHTTP proxy settings to match IE to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am currently using Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.2 on a Macbook Pro laptop. Applications I have used today are Chrome, TunnelBear (which was off at the time) and Parallels to run Windows 7. I quit Chrome and then restarted because I received an "Unable to reach Proxy" error message when trying to load a new site. The error remained. I quickly discovered that only http traffic was trying to reach the proxy and failing, but https traffic was working just fine. I went to Network Settings, Wifi, Advanced, Proxies and saw that a Proxy had been setup for port 62123 on http only. After removing that, web traffic returned to normal.
But now the question remains, how did this happen? Is this computer compromised?
Thanks in advance for the help.

You can check for opened/ unsecured ports at Port 62123 (tcp/udp) :: SpeedGuide
Click on the SG security scan: port 62123 and read the info.
Other than the above....can't help you with deciding if the computer is compromised or not. Possibly someone monitoring the

The symptons are that the IE proxy keeps getting changed to and proxy is also bypassed for the following URL:
When I removed the proxy (because i don't use any), it keeps reverting to the incorrect one.
Another observation that i've made is that this seems to only affect IE proxy settings because Firefox (or other programs that maintains their own proxies) remain unaffected.

Everytime I open IE or Firefox, the proxy is set to, Port 8484. I think I removed the program it was routing thru and can go into the settings and change it to not use a proxy and am able to access the internet. I have tried several online virus scans and ad-ware scans but cannot remove whatever is causing the proxy change.

Per the instructions, below is the text from the dds.txt file and I'm attaching the attach.txt document.

Thank you in advance for any help.

This morning I found myself unable to access any https sites. I tracked the problem down to the fact that somehow my network settings had been changed to connect via a proxy. Once I deselected this option, I was able to connect again without any problems. I have been advised by the technical support desk at my ISP that this is often caused by malware, and that it means that the offenders can potentially skim important log-in information. I have done a series of scans, but I am unable to tell if the results show anything significant or not.
I have run full scans using Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, Hitman Pro and ADWCleaner.
Malwarebytes reported no malware but one PUP - PUP.Optional.Spigot
Microsoft Security Essentials and Hitman Pro reported no threats.
The ADWCleaner log is posted below.
Is anyone able to tell me if I am likely to have been compromised in any way, and if there is any further action I should take?
I run Windows 7 64 Home Premium. My security setup is Malwarebytes Home Premium, Microsoft Security Essentials, Hitman Pro (paid version), Windows Firewall.

Hi all,
Need your help on the following.
Would appreciate if you could advise me on how to go about retifying this situation please.  Please let me know if further details are required.
Many thanks!

Hello hello!
Well i'm guessing like most spyware attacks, I dont really know what happened!
Suddenly a load of pop-ups, and then everything I tried to open said it couldn't be opened as it was infected, and firefox said the proxy settings are incorrect.. so i've restarted into safemode with networking and changed my proxy settings to not using a proxy so my firefox is able to load up webpages.. (internet explorer isn't though)

I've downloaded GMER.EXE like it's written, but i've hit a speed bump before the programs even loaded..
it says "C:\windows\system32\config\system: The system cannot find the file specified"

I have found a path similar, in c:\windows\system\config\system

i've attached the logs from that DDS program..

Not really sure what else to do at the minute!
Thanks a lot in advance!

At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following:
Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Hello, I have a problem where my LAN connection keeps changing from "automatically detect settings" without a proxy to "Use a proxy server for your LAN."  This blocks my internet access.  It's convenient and easy for me to go into IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings where I deselect "Use a proxy server" and then select "Automatically detect settings."
I'm looking for the process which causes this to happen so I can prevent this.  I'm not sure it's malware - my scans from SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes, and Rkill all come up with no malware found.  But that's why I've decided to post here - I have exhausted Google searches and still have come up with nothing to resolve this on my own.
HP Elitebook 840 G2 with 8gb RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Version 1709 build 16299.192.
Thank you for reviewing this and any help you may be able to provide.  Rkill.txt file is attached.

Hello all,

I would very much appreciate an answer to ease my anxiety. To be able to watch a basketball game on a foreign tv channel on-line, I was advised (on a fan forum) to connect to some member's computer since the tv site only allowed people who lived in that country to connect to the site and observe the game. I normally use Firefox but the directions were for Internet Explorer. I connected ("use a Proxy server for your lan" - entered the given address and port numbers), watched the game and ... forgot to change the LAN settings back to what they previously were. In fact, I turned off the internet explorer and was using firefox for 1.5 days before I remembered to change the settings on IE. I have a wireless connection and it was on all this time. My question is: could this member whose proxy I was using (or anyone else) access the content of my computer? If so, is there a way to check? Should I worry about viruses? I have a firewall etc. Thank you very much for your help!

Hi, I have been struggling with this issue for the past two days. I do not want to reset my computer. Ever since two days ago, my internet browsers (google chrome and IE- which I never use) have been nonfunctional. It says "unable to connect to the proxy server" and when I tried unchecking the box and hitting "OK", it automatically reselects the box.
I have tried running several anti-malware devices such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AdwareCleaner. MBAM has given me a lot of PUP.optionals that I have quarantined, however; when I run AdwareCleaner it shows that YTDownloader and OneSoftPerDay, etc. has been detected and deleted, but after the restart it still shows they are there if I run Adwcleaner.
Please help.

I have been having numerous problems with this machine (and another desktop). Something keeps changing my Internet options to "use proxy server" In the Options tool menu. I am also getting script error warnings now on IE. I had to make IE my default browser today because I couldn't see some of the buttons on the forum pages that I follow. I.E. "comment", "quote" etc. while having Firefox set as my default browser. I usually use Firefox. I had problems last week and Mozilla recommended a "beta" version 34 but that didn't fix the issues. I also paid for and activated Malwarebytes Pro and it found problems on multiple scans on this machine after restarts.
I just installed a brand new hard drive in the problematic desktop too.
Running IE 11.
Can't even find the search window in IE 11 (it's MIA). Can't set my default search engine which has always been Google.

My Win8 Start Page apps stopped working - could not access internet. Then I noticed Dropbox couldn't get a "secure connection". But Firefox browser and my email client had no problem with the internet. After hunting around a bit, I discovered that Proxy Server was checked in the LAN Settings of Internet Options-Connections tab. I turned it off and all was well, but it came back on the next boot. I can't find anything suspicious in my autostarted programs and the built-in MS security software isn't complaining about anything.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm fresh out of things to try. Meanwhile I keep resetting the Proxy check box whenever I have to re-boot.

If you haven't tried using System Restore yet, it's pretty handy for this sort of trouble.

From the Windows 8 Start Screen, type Recovery, then click Settings, then click Recovery, and then select Open System Restore. Choose a restore point from before your proxy settings started reinventing themselves.

This is really annoying - when the cable modem software was installed it put a proxy setting in IE.

Every time IE loads, it puts it back. I uninstalled their software in Add/Remove, I uncheck the proxy in IE (5.01 - upgraded to 5.5 in hopes of killing this) and it is gone until I exit IE and restart (not reboot). I found the proxy setting in the registry and removed it, which makes it stay away until I reboot. But then it is back.

So, something is putting the entry back in the registry.

Anybody know what it is and / or how to stop it? Some sites I visit won't work with it, so I have to keep turning it off...

I have enabled "Use Proxy Server" in Internet Option to access Internet. The setting work fine and I have no problem on surfing. However, after surfing for a few hours, IE will suddenly slow down and then I can't go to any web site. I found that the "Use Proxy Server checkbox will be unchecked. Everything resume normal after I enable the proxy server again. The problem will occur several times each day. It is not limited to any specific site and I can't find any special pattern. It just occurs randomly.

I have already used adAware to remove all adware in my machine and there is no virus infection found by Norton Anti-virus. (The signature file is up to date)

P.S. I am using Windows 98 SE and IE 5.5 SP2.

You can use a premade site. There are many on the web. If you are looking to make your own then you will need a web server of some type. Most proxy scripts are for PHP, so once you complete learning web servers, then you can learn PHP.

I am curious to why you want a proxy. Generally they are used for illegal purposes. Often to circumvent web/content filters or other forms of network security. However most decent security setups can detect proxies and block them.

Hello, it has been a while since I had this problem but I never gave any attention to it (actually I did but I just thought it was something from my ISP...) but now it is becoming really annoying and after making some research, this problem might be more dangerous than what it seems to be.
So I believe I have tried everything in my power to stop this, nothing. I tried deleting the proxy setting from the registry in safe mode, did not work. Secondly, I have downloaded Malwarebytes, scanned, deleted the dangerous files. In the same time, downloaded CCleaner, cleaned everything and rebooted, also didn't work. Third, I have downloaded AdwCleaner, used it. Found some things, deleted them also. Rebooted, proxy setting still there. Fourth, downloaded Junkware Removal, found something in Windows files, deleted it. Reboot, still there.
And now I am at my end with it, have no idea what to do and am actually a little scared, I have a lot of files and do not want to do a full restoration. Unfortunately, a simple restoration is not possible because for some reason my OS deletes all the old ones.
For more clarification, I am talking about this:
It keeps checking back by itself, no matter what. It sometimes blocks websites, sometimes is slow as hell. And recently, more than a few times... It is completely broken. Firefox tells me that the proxy server is not working and I have to go to its settings and deactivate it from t... Read more
