Q: Disk Check Message

Hello i have a problem similar to this http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Disk-Check-Issue/td-p/5466973. In summary i always get a message: To turn off Disk Check, press any key in x number of seconds.I dont press anything and the count down stops, check disk doesnt run and the system boots ok. If i use chkdsk /f c: to scedule a full scan during boot, the same things happen. No full check of disks. I have tried several things. A. After installing Creators update, did a reset of the pc (delete all files and apps and reinstall )B. Performed checkdisk in all drives within windowsC. Checked for dirty bits, with fsutil, and even hex editor on all drivesD. Used chkntfs /x c: d , to stop checkingE. Tried the solution on the link above, and tried to fix startup problems. Nothing has worked so far. Message is there all the time, check disk doesnt run, but i just have the countdown! Any other solutions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello again. In my original thread: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/no-disk-message-564181.html#post3210410 I was referred here to check on my PC's security by following the basic procedure. As I've done it before, I ran a RSIT instead of a DDS.

Summary: When I first look at the computer in the day, there's a skinny Windows message with the blue on top saying that "There is No Disk in the Drive.", then three buttons under it saying "Try Again", "Cancel" and "Continue, and then to the right of those, a big red circle with a big white X. This was after the computer was just sitting on all night, not attached to the Web or anyone using it. And a few months before that, it used to be McAfee giving a Window to "Archive Data" onto disks. The disk drive seems to be fine and there's no file name or anything mentioned in the message, so it seems odd.

Sup ppl?

I've been trying to get chech disk to run on startup for about a month now with now succes. I've searched the net constantly and tried tons of different approaches, but they all failed for me.

Anyway, I keep getting a baloon popup saying I should run chech disk because I have errors. I was hoping there's any type of software I can buy/download that will do the same thing as Check Disk, as in fix errors and bad sectors on disk.

Thanks in advance ppl.

Hi, I've tried a lot of things but nothing is working, I would greatly appreciate any help. About two months ago a blue screen would come up and then shut my computer down, which I've been able to work around. Now, not sure if it's connected, but it's not reading my cd drive (won't eject or read it in my burner), disk defragmenter says "Disk Defragmenter could not start", and check disk says "Windows was unable to complete the disk check." I've tried some things I've found on the web including running check disk from cmd which ran but didn't change anything; the volume came back not dirty, and I checked the logical manager and all in the services section. Thank you for your time.

As of late my PC has been going very slow, stuttering, freezing for a minute occasionally, and sometimes when I restart I get a disk read error that requires me to turn the PC off and on again. I ran check disk using command prompt, it got to 12% before it said it had found corrupt files, now it gets up to 37% verification before it finds corrupt files but cannot repair them.

I tried running system repair from the windows 7 disk, but it fails. I've used western digital to run tests on my hard drive, but there were no problems found.

dont know how to fix this now, i've been told its probably the hard drive failing but the scan says otherwise. I can really tell how it takes a lot longer to boot up, log in, even open internet browser takes a lot longer than before.

help appreciated

A:Check disk failing, disk read errors, blue screen, computer going slow

Are you running the Western Digital Data Lifeguard CD ISO (extract first) burned to CD using WIndows Image burner, then booted to run the Extended Scan? This should give you a definitive diagnosis of the HD, which appears from the Disk CHeck to be failing.

If the HD checks out I would do is try a perfect test Clean Reinstall to the same or another HD to know for sure.

Hello!

So I recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium on an Acer Aspire 5349. I've been having a bunch of issues with it since the install.

Firstly, When I boot, it takes me to the "Disk Check" screen and tells me that one of my disks needs to be checked for consistency. However, the disk in question isn't something like "C:" or "D:" it's "\\?\volume{c4afec15-cb60-11e4-9583-806e6f6e6963}". The disk check also automatically cancels. It doesn't prompt me with the usual " Press any button to stop the disk check" option, just straight to " Disk check has been cancelled"

When I eventually get to the desktop, I get the screen " Windows detected a hard disk problem ". I look at the details and I'm told that my C:\ drive has been reporting failures. When I check the status of the disk via the Disk Management tool I'm told that all my partitions are healthy.

When I actually use the laptop, it's very slow and frequently freezes. It takes a while to catch back up and sometimes these freezes lead to a BSOD. The BSOD message was KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. I checked the event viewer and it also seemed that before certain crashes I would have driver controller error on an IDE Port. I've attached a picture of the disk check screen, event viewer, and memory dump. I apologize about the quality of the pictures, I couldn't screenshot the images on the actual laptop as it was freezing and crashing too often.

Hi everyone.

Going crazy with this. So about 2 weeks ago, my "intel rapid storage technology" software gave me an error. I opened it and saw that one of the disks (2 disk array) in my Raid 0 array, had an error. I reset it back to normal and left it. Then I started to get pop ups saying that files were corrupt over the course of the next few days. My OS still worked and everything worked as usual, except my sound card. I have no more sound from anything plugged into the jacks, only USB connected audio works.

So, I attempted to run a check disk to fix said errors, but I get a message that the drive is not accessible due to a recent software package install "error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1". I went into my system restore and all restore points are gone, except one. When I click on it, it says the drive is not accessible.

Today, I installed 2 new 1TB hybrid drives in another Raid 0 volume (yes I know...but that's what I am using for now). When I went to write the system image, it said the disk had errors and to run a check disk first......which I can not.. I clicked ignore and let it go and write the system image with the errors. When it is done, do you think that I will be able to run a check disk on the new drives (2nd array, since it will not be inaccessible) to repair the errors that it wrote from the bad disk?

I am not sure where to go from here. My PC is still up and running and almost finished copying the image to the two new drives. My hopes are th... Read more

Computer -> Right Click Hard Drive -> Click Properties -> Click Tools.

From there I get the Disk Check option. However After opening the file it does not run. No matter what is or is not checked the file will not run.

The program instantly closes out. Even when I try to set it so that it will run on the next start up. The file will close out without showing the confirmation box.

Now, when I do restart I go to my log in page, but not until after seeing a page for a brief moment, it looks like the page you see after completeing a disk check at start up.

Used the windows install DVD to check for errors in windows and to see if anything needed repairing, came back as everything was fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys.

My disk defrag and Check disk are not working.

I can bring up both programs, but when I attempt to either Analyze, Defrag, or Start Scan, respectively, a error pops up, saying "Windows was unable to complete the disk check" and "Disk Defragmenter does not start"

I don't believe it is virus-related as I have ran the Malwarebytes program and nothing has come up. I also ran Trend Micro and nothing has popped up either.

I also wonder if it has anything do with my MP3 issue.

When you click them they open a cmd window, dont close that window. Be patient that window will dissapear by itself. These advanced shortcuts are the best free defraggers there are. To get better you would need to buy something like PerfectDisk, so dont bother with defraggler etc...

Hey Guys,
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what my problem is. Basically, we had an issue with the computer and so we force restarted it at one point about a month ago. After that, we started getting requests to run a check disk after every time the computer was rebooted. The check disks take 20+ hours for some reason on this computer, and we cannot afford to have it down that long since it is a work computer. We cancelled the disk check and afterwards we noticed that the hard drive was filling itself up. The computer has a 450gb hard drive and after a couple of hours it was telling us that there were only 2mb of space left (we have maybe 20gb of data on the computer total). This is the point in which I stepped in and ran a disk cleanup and deleted all of the old system restore points. It gave us about a gb of space so I left it alone (I didn't realize at this point what the problem was, just thought it was too much stuff on the comp). The next day the computer's user told me it was the same problem and I knew that she wasn't using all of the space that I had found so I checked it out again. Once again, it was giving me the low disk space error. I decided to download and install Windirstat to see what was taking up all the space. When I run Windirstat, it tells me that 430gb of the 450gb of space is "Unknown". After that, I shut it down and let it run the check disk completely over the course of a weekend. It ran for about a week after... Read more

A:Windows 7 No Disk Space after Disk Check Cancellation

Likely the file system was messed up by the forced restart, a rare but possible occurence.

So the unknown used space may be failed attempts to copy data over to repair the file system. This is why it's always advised to back up data before doing a Disk Check and of course data should always be backed up anyway against HD failure - which itself cannot be ruled out here.

I would test the HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a Disk Check done from the Win7 disk or Repair CD's System Recovery Options Command Line which doesn't depend upon the OS on a potentially scrambled file system.

Best to stop it starting up with XP. Go Start>Run and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab and scroll down to the entry for qttask.exe and then untick it. Click Apply and OK and the system will restart. When it comes back, tick the "don't show this message again" box and hit OK. You won't be deleting QuickTime and can still start it when needed.

Error: "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk4\DR5"

The situation is this. I have an old program that came entirely on CDs. You can load the program on your hard drive, but it's constantly asking you to insert CD's to read portions of the program. I had a computer that I got it to work on, by loading the program on the Hard drive, and then fooled it into reading a flash drive that has all the content of the extra 7 disks.

I just got a new computer, and that solution is not working. The software won't recognize the flash drive no matter which USB slot I put it in. The software is no longer supported. It runs, but only if I insert the CDs. No matter where I put the
disk, it's not recognized, even if I change the drive letter to what the initial installation came from.

I know it's an odd question, but it's driving me nuts.

Thanks.
carl

There is a utility from Microsoft that allows you to mount iso's as virtual dc roms, dvd, roms ect. it can be downloaded from Virtual CD-Rom. If you need to create iso's from the disks themselves try ImgBurn just be sure to uncheck any added software it wants to install including conduit.

Can anyone please tell me how and where to buy one. At least 80 Meg or more. Cannot find anything on the Toshiba web site about spare parts.

I live in Spain so will need to get it shipped to me.

Also does anyone know if someone can examine the old hard disk and try and rescue my data. A lot was not backed up. Such as photos and kids singing.

Thanks

A:Qosmio E10: Hard Disk died - NO IDE DISK message

Hi

Try to connect HDD to other PC as external one. Maybe you will be able to rescue some data. Other way you can try to check HDD using sector repair tool. One of them is HDD regenerator.

Maybe after doing this you will be able to start OS again. I have had similar problem. HDD Regenerator will not repair HDD but it can be used again.

In my opinion you don?t need any special HDD and I also think that you should be able to use 100GB one. You can order it by service partner in your country or take old one in pc store and talk with your local dealer. He will advice you what to do.

I'm guessing your trying to complete a chkdsk ?.

If so, You can not do it whilst windows is booted. Unless it's not the primary OS drive.

Have you tried doing it from command prompt? And it should say " Windows will complete the chkdsk upon restart " ?

What are her options? She's unable to boot to safe mode, or safemode with command prompt.. I told her to leave it be for now as she's had a bsod before from the laptop overheating.

Ok, I built a PC a month ago and everything seemed find no problems of any sort. The other night I defragmented my hard drive and shut it down and turned it on today to a memory test and the message "Disk Boot Failure, Insert system Disk and press enter"

The computer has access to the XP pro w/ sp2 disk only as a boot device but it will not recognize it now.

I have set Cd-rom as 1st for boot sequence then hard drive I have no floppy drive and the bios has been configured to know that.

I am not sure if this means anything but in the bios the IDE Channel 0 Master says none and when I try to turn on auto detection it wont detect a hard drive.

The HDD is fully connected and has not been touched since I installed it a month ago.

I have this awful feeling that I fried the HDD when I defragmented it last night.

Any help would be very much appreciated. But please be simple this is my first build and my knowledge at this sort of thing is very very sketchy at best.

My husband has a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP. Several times a week, for seemingly no reason, the computer will freeze. Even after waiting a long time, it will not start working, so I have done 2 things--either turned it off with the on'off button or unplugging it for a few minutes. When it comes back on, a black screen with white letters, it has a message: Bad Check SUM (CMOS). Check system, then press the F1 key. Then there is almost a whole page of writing, again black screen with white letters. So I take the cursor and start it at the to, then with the arrow take it down both columns. Then it says to press End, I believe, to save my changes (but I haven't made any changes), then I do that and it comes up with a Y or N to check about really wanting to save it. I'm sure there's something I need to keep it from doing this, but my computer knowledge is limited . Then when that screen comes up, that I just click down, I don't change anything. Thank you in advance for any help you might could give me on any of this. I have a Sony laptop that I recently had a couple of problem concerning it solved on here, so I hope that you can help me with this problem. Hi... A week ago, I ran Check Disk on my old, corrupted hard-drive to see if it could help me access anything left on it. (physically, a different hard-drive than my system. its five years old)

While still in Windows, I left it overnight.
I rebooted later and it started another scan before windows booted. I let it be.
Thankfully, things are a bit better since the scan.
But now it tries scanning before loading Windows all the time.
I like to turn my comp on in the morning, and go do things while it loads. I dont want to stand around to 'press any key' to cancel the scan.

How do I get this to stop? There wasn't even a visible option to scan at boot to begin with.

Also, what is the longevity of an average hard-drive? (I always end up with a Maxtor)
Should I buy a new one every five years?
My old drive likes to tell me 'the disk in drive F isnt formatted..." all the time.
But thats getting off this topic...

Thanks

A:Check Disk won't go away

It won't stop because it keeps detecting problems on the drive. If you really want it to stop pull the drive out.

I am not good enough to go into the command prompt to do it,I don't know really how and not brave enough to try it. I just don't know about it. Could someone please let me know what is wrong? Hello, friends,

I have been trying to clean up and maintain the computer my kids use. It's a Dell Dimension 4300 desktop, running Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2, Pentium 4, with an 80GB harddrive and it is updated to the best of my knowledge. It has tons of empty space on the drive, so I know for certain that's not the issue. Before I started any of my maintenance, I turned off System Restore. I've run everything in Safe Mode and in the separate accounts in regular mode:

Symantec found nothing.
Spybot - found CasaleMedia - which I deleted. I also blocked that site in both IE and Firefox after deleting all cookies and temporary files. I then searched for it on the drive and found nothing (which I know also means nothing ).
AdAware - found nothing.
Spyware Blaster is updated and running.
I ran Defrag several times.

But the computer refuses to run a check disk - no matter where I am (safe mode or accounts). I always heard that you have an issue if the disk check won't run. I had thought in the past that disk space was the main issue, but I know that's not a problem on this system. Any ideas? Am I being paranoid for nothing??

Thanks, guys, for all of your help!

JF

Is there a way to run a check disk if xp will not work? I had a system that started to give me strange error messages. I mean they were very odd. The last error that came up, said that I did not have a valid copy of xp and would not let me login to the PC. I even tried to login in safe mode, but that did not work. How would I go about fixing this?

I'm going through the recommended procedures, but the check disk will not run. After rebooting the PC starts up normally, then the blue screen with check disk appears for a second or two but is to quick to read what it it says. I also tried to run by going to Start>Run>OK, but the result is the same as above.
What can I do to rectify this problem? Thank you

A:Check Disk

Can you tell us exactly what recommended procedures...you tried which result in a No-Go?

You tried Start/Run...type chkdsk /r, with a space between the k and the /...and hit Enter or OK?

If you are trying to run the chkdsk on any drive other than C:, then you have to add the drive (e.g., G:) between the k and the blank space...before hitting Enter/OK.

Hi Tech Guys,

I've looked up other postings for this problem, however I can't find a solution for my sister's case. Thank you for your understanding.

Here's my problem. When my sister went to boot up her computer, an error message came up saying:

"Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistenscy. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.
To skip disk checking, press any key within 1 second(s)."

The seconds would change, etc. However everytime she would try to cancel it, it would go back to the same screen and now the computer's not responding at all, not even allowing for reboot. Even as I type this the screen went black. I'm not sure if it's the battery at this point. Please help us!

The computer's info:
HP with a Windows 7 OS. If you need additional info, please let us know. I wasn't really sure where to post this, but thank you for your time and advice.

A:Cannot run disk check help

try doing system repair or type in your cmd "sfc/scannow" without the quote. It would be better if you could boot in safemode

just wondering if you put /f in your command

chkdsk (drive letter): /f

My laptop contracted the "Check Disk" malware (virus? trojan?) and I was reading up here on how to remove it. However the next time I re-booted, I saw a screen with two choices: 1) Launch Startup repair (recommended); and 2) Launch Windows normally. If I try to launch normally the machine just restarts and comes up with the same screen over and over. If I choose the first option, I see windows with the following choices:
-System recovery options (asks me to select keyboard)
-Next window says "restore using a system image created earlier, OR Use recovery tools -- select operating system (there are no operating systems listed to choose from). This leads to eventually restarting and the original screen comes up.

If I try tapping F8 and choose "safe mode" the machine just restarts. I also tried downloading MBam and Rkill onto a CD and put it in the machine, but there doesn't seem to be any way to access the drive. It would sure be nice to save all the music, photos and documents on this machine.

Any ideas for me? I am only moderately computer literate, so be gentle with me!

I have Vista Home Premium, 32 Bit O/s. A few weeks ago, the computer started doing a complete Check Disk everytime I boot up. It says to hit any key within 10 seconds to stop the process, but no key will stop it. It takes over an hour to complete!!!!!!!

How can I stop the Check Disk from starting each time I start the computer?

A:Check Disk

You may have a problem, but not chkdsk. Your hard drive may be getting ready to die. Back up everything, then take this test.
