Portege M700 new genuine Battery discharges in aproximately 1.5 hours

Q: Portege M700 new genuine Battery discharges in aproximately 1.5 hours

My old original battery discharges in 30 minutes and I purchased an original new one from Toshiba authorized dealer in Croatia.

After several days of charging and discharging, the new genuine Toshiba battery discharges 1.5 hours of normal use without powering any external devices nor optical drive.

Toshiba specification for this model of Portege states that battery should last approximately 4 hours.
How I can get the battery replaced when local dealer stated that he can not guaranty battery life and that the new battery came directly from authorized Toshiba parts distributor in Europe?

Preferred Solution: Portege M700 new genuine Battery discharges in aproximately 1.5 hours

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The battery should be calibrated properly. This means that you should charge and discharge the battery until it?s fully empty. This should be repeated several times?

Furthermore the battery working times depends on notebook usage? using notebook with max display brightness or running applications which needs full CPU, GPU and HDD performance would decrease the battery working time.

The existing batter will no longer charge. It is a Li-ion PA3191U-5BRS - 10.8V 4700 mAh. I have an almost new replacement battery for my earlier Portege with idenitcal fittings but with 10.8V 4600mAh. It is not a Toshiba model and states that it is to replace PA3176U-2BRS. Can I use it in my M700 without risk of damage or reduced performance?

A:Portege M700 - Battery replacement - will alternative work?

To be honest I doubt that it will work because the specifications are different.
In your case I wouldn?t try it, in worst case you destroy the computer.

It would be better if you buy a new battery with the exact specifications. Authorized service provider in your country can make you an offer for this.

Hi everyone, Title says it all, I know this topic of discharging internal battery first has been brought up a lot, and that the reason behind it is this: The T470s are designed to drain the battery with least wear first so as to degrade both batteries equally and prolong the laptop's overall battery life. However, as I'm using a new 61++ battery, clearly somethig is going wrong somewhere as the year old internal battery cannot be in better condition than the brand new external.https://gyazo.com/6c12f3f40514599d04d852a8589189ab Any ideas? Thanks!

My son dropped his padded computer bag with his Toshiba Portege M700 laptop inside off his desk (just out of warranty).

The laptop shows no sign of damage, but on powering on it makes 'all the right noises' but there is no display on the screen. If the laptop is powered on with the charger connected then some vertical colored bars appear, and then they fill with white, but nothing else.

We have tried connecting an external monitor and pressing Fn+F5, and the vertical bars disappear from the internal monitor, and it goes completely black, but nothing appears on the external monitor. Pressing Fn+F5 again returns the random vertical lines on the internal monitor.

We have also tried booting the laptop into the Safe Mode menu by tapping F8 when the laptop is booted, with and without an external monitor, with and without Fn+F5, but can get no video on either the internal or external monitor.

Does it appear that maybe a connector has been dislodged by the shock of the drop, it do you think the laptop is now pushing up daisies?

Any advice gratefully received.

A:Re: No Display on Portege M700

To be honest I don?t know which connector do you mean but if there is no pic on external display there must be some serious problem.
It seems that video signal cannot be sent through video out port.

It is not easy to offer some precise diagnostic on this ?virtual? way.
What do you want to do now? Try to repair it or what?

Maybe you should contact Toshiba service and ask for check. They can run diagnostic tools and tell you what is defective, what must be replaced and how much it will costs. Then you can make decision what to do.

You need a 3G broadband module?

As far as I know some of the M700 Portege series have been equipped with the 3G module? I think it?s from Novatel but I?m not quit sure?

However, if you need an part for the Toshiba notebook which would be compatible for sure, then the best place for buying such part is your ASP.

The guys could check what parts are compatible and could order it from Toshiba if this would be really necessary?

I tried to Update the BIOS at my M700-110 PPM70E-02302DEN from 1.60 up to 1.80 (P005Bv180.exe).

However it fails with the error " BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack installed."

Within the "more information" I could read "OS independent".
Is the Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 not supported?

What's the matter?
Which BIOS is the right one for my system?

Please help me!
THanks a lot.

A:BIOS Update not possible for Portege M700

It seems that Vista OS was preinstalled on this notebook.
This means that you have installed the Win 7 system at your own hand.

The point is that BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba tools.
For example the Value Added Package is important software and should be preinstalled on the notebook.

Is VAP installed?
If not install the VAP before trying to update the BIOS.

Hi there, I've got an Alienware 15 R2 that I bought 2 years ago. Everything worked fine until about 6 months ago when the battery began disconnecting and rapidly discharging (about 2hrs from full to shutdown) whenever I open any games.
I've searched everywhere for a solution. Diagnostics show battery health to be fine, I've tried different charging cables (mine is currently 240w and was the cable I received with the laptop) and I've attempted to reduce all processes to the bare minimum.
My fiance and I bought a matching pair of laptops and the other seems to work without issue. The only notable difference we've found was my BIOS having been updated recently while the other is an older version.

A:Portege M700 - SATA speed/standdard for new SSD

I?m not quite sure about the SATA specification but I think the Portege M700 supports an SATA II HDD controller.
However, you can install some hardware diagnostic tools like SANDRA Sisoft to get detailed controller specifications.

But SATA is backward compatible and this means that even if you would use an SATA III SSD drive, the SSD would be recognized but speed would be limited to SATA II performance.

My NB520 has recently developed a problem.
It was working fine and i charged it up to 99% then when i removed the charger, a message appears saying ''0:05 of battery remaining (99%)'' and then ''computer will suspend very soon unless it is plugged in''.

So even though it is registering the 99% charge it thinks there is only 5 minutes of operation time left.
Is this a battery problem or a motherboard problem?

A:NB520 battery discharges very quickly

For me it looks like a battery malfunction?maybe you could try to calibrate the battery several times in order to increase the performance but not quite sure if this would help in this case?

To calibrate the battery you should discharge the battery until it would be fully empty. Then charge it again until the battery indicator would switch to blue or green (this depends on model you have).

If this would not help, I would recommend testing new battery.

My T450s has recently started discharging the internal battery first rather than the removable battery. I can't recall when this started to happen but I think it happened when I updated the BIOS to the latest version currently available. Anyone have any insight if this is an issue with other models and a fix? This is rather annoying. I have updated all of the other drivers with the System Update utility from Lenovo. Machine Type: 20BW

I have a Toshiba P25-S509 laptop that's a few years old but still runs pretty good. The problem that I having now is that it seems to only run on battery even if the AC adapter is plugged in. This is one of those 10lb giant laptops that was marketed as a desk top replacement. That was a joke and I fell for it.
I get about 50 minutes of run time and have to be religious about recharging. I purchased another adapter/charger and a new battery and the problem still exists. Strangely enough however, once in a while I'll see the charging light come on while it's running and i will think that my problem is solved but it doesn't last for long. If any one has any advice on how to fix this situation I would appreciate it. I may have to get a new laptop and I can assure you that it will not be a Toshiba. I would also appreciate any recommendations on a good reliable brand.

Thx in advance,

Dear All,

My portege M700 laptop has for the most part performed reliably.
However, it used to be very sluggish resuming from sleep after a few wake-sleep iterations, taking >5min.

I have now installed Windows 7 32-bit, which is working very well. There are no longer any problems with resuming from sleep. However, about 1-2 times per day now I get a message that Explorer has crashed and must restart. About once per week, the system locks up entirely with a windows blue screen (kernel fault). Most times, in the few seconds around the time the screen freezes, I hear the fan switch on at full speed (much faster than it ever normally runs) and the case becomes quite warm.

I have installed the latest Windows 7 32-bit drivers from the Toshiba UK website.

Can anyone help me diagnose the cause of these crashes?

Many thanks,

A:Portege M700 crashes after upgrading to Windows 7 32bit

It?s hard to say what could cause this strange system behavior.
But you said something about warm case and fans starts to rotate faster?

It seems that the notebooks internal temperature increases to a higher level.
Higher temperature can affect the RAM modules and this might be the reason why the system hangs and does not response.

What to say? you should check the Win 7 power management settings.
There are a lot of options which could decrease the CPU performance and could increase the cooling.
Furthermore you should check if the cooling fans are free of dust? clogged fans could not rotate properly and this would increase the temperature as well.

Hope this helps you?

Running Vista business 32 bit.

When I put my M700 in tablet mode, and tilt the tablet to 1side and press the button next to the cursor button it used to rotate the screen to that direction.
it doesnt do this anymore. I
Also noted that all accelerometer utilities, like tilt, shake, and advanced security do not work anymore. hdd motion detection does work.

I've reinstalled from recovery discs and installed original and new version from tablet extension and tvap. Nothing seems to help. I've also installed Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, it doesnt work there either. Ive actually noticed that it also doesnt work in vista because of it not working under Windows 7.

I'm wondering whether or not my accelerometer is broken or not because it used to work with the original installation discs or is this a software issue?

A:Portege M700 - Rotation buton and accelerometer not working

Hi there,

I've tried the Disc Creator that came pre-installed, and also the Nero All under Vista 32-bits.

The latter seems to have no clue about the problem, as it says smething like unknown failure.

The disc creator mentions error code 380381-26-BF040304.

The problem happens just at the begining, I've tried with three discs, so I don't think the discs are the problem. Anyway, they are DVD+R DL from Verbatim, and support up to 8x, while the recorder goes only upto 4x for double layer, so I think I'm ok.

My suspicion is that may be the firmware version in the DVD needs update... It mentions Hw 1.00, Fw 1.10. Other laptop manufacturers like offer DVD firmware upgrades for it, but I could not find any from TOSHIBA.

Any ideas?

A:Portege M700 - DVD drive fails when recording discs

Have you tried to remove the upper and lower filters? On the Microsoft Knowledge Base is a workaround how to do this so check this!

I have also good experience with Verbatim disks so I doubt that this is the problem.
Do you have the same issue with Nero or only if you use the Toshiba recovery disk creator?

Hello,  I bought this model of laptop 2 weeks ago and I found out strange problem, which I also found on HP forum, so definitely it is serious issue - every second or third day (at least for this first 2 weeks of using laptop) my laptop's battery is arround 5% discharged during night. To be precise, when I finish my work at night (during work power jack is plugged in and battery is 100% full), I completely shut down laptop (Windows button/Power/Shut Down, so no hibernation or anything similar, just standard shutdown of device) and I unplug it from electricity. When I power on laptop in the morning the battery is around 95%. So, basically during night while device isn't working at all it still somehow drains for around 5% . I am afraid that if I don't solve this problem it will get worse and worse, and after couple of months of using, battery can discharge even more during night.  As mentioned before, I am using Windows 10 64-bit system. I am also using my old laptop and this situation has never happened during many years of working on it. Looking forward to hear from you.

This laptop is about four and a half years old and recently the battery has started acting up. The battery discharges from a full charge in about 15-20 minutes.

Another problem I had with the battery was a 601 error at bootup - I got this error in the BIOS screen and it states that the battery has fallen below its optimal charge capacity.

I managed to "fix" this problem with a BIOS update. I then ran the powercfg utility and it shows that the battery is charging fully,

Battery:Battery Information
Battery ID 14089 2010/12/01Hewlett-PackardPrimary
Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
Serial Number 14089 2010/12/01
Chemistry LIon
Long Term 1
Design Capacity 11502
Last Full Charge 11502

So can anyone tell me why the battery is discharging so quickly? Am running Windows 7 Home Premium in Power Saver mode and nothing is running in the background, and the only apps are a couple of browser windows.

Thank you in advance.

My new Toshiba Satellite Z830 10J ultrabook with Win7 64bit,. all updates, works fine and shows no deficiencies, there is however one strange exception.

When the battery is fully charded and i "pull the plug", the system runs on the battery for sometimes more than 5 hours, so i assume the battery cycle is ok.

When the battery now is fully charged again and i SHUT DOWN the system and do not use it for a few days,
then the battery is totally DISCHARGED to 0% and the system will not boot, until i plug it in.

This phenomenon occurs in less than a week. So: charging the batrery to 100%, switching off the system, pulling the plug, wanting to re-use the system after 7 days, yields to 0% battery charge.

Is there any specific reason for this?

Please enter also BIOS settings and disable every option that can be related to this issue. I don?t have this new notebook and BIOS is not known to me but check please all BIOS settings. Disable wake =up on LAN or USB sleep and charge.

Fully discharge the battery by leaving it in the computer with the power on until the system automatically turns it self off.Connect the AC adaptor to the DC IN 19V jack in the computer and to the power network.Charge the battery until the battery indicator glows green.Repeat these steps two or three times until the battery recovers normal capacity

A:I Purchased a Dell N5050 J1KND Battery . I needed to verify that is that battery Genuine Dell Inc. manufactured?

This is  not genuine.  The 9C5 would mean the battery was manufactured in March, 2009.  And Dell's labels don't have the date posted as 2017/07/27.

Hi all,

can anyone help i got 2 spare batteries for my protege m750-11w and they dont work and i'm wondering do i need to do a BIOS update for them. The batteyr in my protege is PA3191U-5BRS and the two new batteries are both PA3191U-1BAS and it said that this battery would work where the -5BRS was in use.

I have updated my BIOS already from version 1.6 to version 3 and the battery still doesnt work i just get a white cursor flashing in the top left hand corner.

Does anyone know where i can obtain a BIOS update to except this battery?

A:Portege M750-11W - New battery won't work

That means Windows doesn?t start with new battery and you see only the flashing cursor?
That?s strange? Have you connected the AC/DC adaptor?

In my opinion you should fully charge the battery before you start Windows. After this try it again.

My z30t has flashing amber battery light on the tablet but static white light on docking station when adapter plugged in. Undocking the tablet and plugging in the adapter makes no difference. Amber light still flashes. Left plugged in for over an hour with no change. Running Windows 10.

A:Portege Z30t - battery issue

Portege Z30T not charging. When adapter attached to the docking station the docking station battery light stays solid white but the tablet light flashes amber. Leaving for a couple of hours the tablet light remains flashing. Disconnecting the tablet from the docking station and plugging the adapter directly into the tablet has no effect - the tablet light still flashes amber. All was fine when last used 2 days ago. Next use it wouldn't start at all. Tablet had not been detached from docking station for a couple of month.

My Toshiba Z30-C only works on AC. No battery status and no charge/battery led.

I was working as regular, and the computer sudenly shutdown with battery about 80% of charge. After that, battery is not recognized and only works with AC connected.

After that, windows and linux can not show the battery status.

This is a recurrent problem. I can solve for a time disassembling laptop, disconnecting battery, turn it on with AC, and connecting battery again.

After this action, battery is recognized again.

Soft reset solutions (power button pushed 30 seconds) don't work.

There are some solution with this problem that also affected to my previous Z30-A and Z30-B...

On AC the computer never had fails, but on battery the suddenly shutdown without any warning is a regular problem.
